***READ THE GUIDE****

For those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Gunpla/Plamo Secret Santa!

Sign ups run until December 4th. I'll try to have everyone paired up by December 6th.

Like last year, I'm going to have everyone fill out a Google form so I can collect the information easily.

Also, if you have some kits in your backlog that you are willing to part with feel free to email me a list and estimated values.

All the new tools I've ordered have arrived (Panel liners, weathering kits, real markers, spruce cutters, design knife), but still no sign of gundams. Life is suffering.

How long can I wait before I should get worried as an European person waiting on a SAL package? It's already been 3 weeks.

is dust a big problem when painting with an airbrush? I'm thinking of buying a spray booth since it's getting too cold to paint outside now. Problem is, the only place I'd have space for it is in the basement, which is dusty as fuck.

Thought you guys might get a chuckle out of the HG Strike Freedom I butchered 10 years ago. I just recently got some gunpla models again. One thing that bothers me is getting the models to look clean. The tiny marks left over from getting it off the sprue really bother me on my zaku. Sanding, filing, cutting and snipping all leave tiny of stress marks. I wouldn't mind so much if I was painting the model but how do you guys get them looking so clean?
>>
>>5287728
Its a bigger problem with double action airbrushes. If you're using a single action just remove the tip and clean it if something gets stuck in it.
>>
>>5287746
Best you can do is scratch at the discoloration. It'll generally make the stress less noticeable, and may even get rid of the stress mark if you're lucky.

Asked at the end of last thread, still hoping for some help. I'll try decanting it later too.

Anyways, I'm having some weird issues with Mr. Super Clear Flat UV Cut.

It keeps turning glossy for some reason. I've only been spraying in below 70% humidity and spraykng from at least 6-10 inches away. Previously I thought maybe it was causing a layer of gloss clear I had put down to reconstitute to the surface, but it just did it to a part I hadn't painted and only put weathering powder on.

I'm also wondering if using Super Clear on top of weeks old Mr Topcoat might be an issue, but other parts I've done that on haven't glossed up. These faces, for instance.
>>
>>5287750
Pretty sure that dust landing on the fresh coat of paint is a bigger problem here.

>>5287728
Just clean your basement, anon. Dust is not good for you anyway.
>>
>>5287759
>It keeps turning glossy for some reason
How well did you shake it, anon? Flat coat is basically white carcinogenic powder mixed with gloss. If the powder stays at the bottom of your can all you're spraying is gloss.
>>
>>5287764
Shook the thing for a full 2 minutes. I counted.

Tried warming it up, too. It came out worse somehow.

I'm wondering if I just got a bad can or something. Should probably pick up more anyways.
>>
>>5287771
>I'll try decanting it later too.
If you can airbrush, why do you bother with cans anyway?
>>
>>5287777
Convenience. I don't always have the time to spray and clean up my airbrush. Cans, I can spray and then leave for work.
>>
>>5287777
Nice quads, but I recommended it as a way to check if he was actually spraying flat, or if he got some weird mix in his can.

The second one is old. It will require glue, putty, and paint to look decent and the articulation will still be pretty poor compared to modern kits.

The dark matter is much newer but has a few little frustrating bits due to the base mold it uses, but it isn't too bad of a kit.

>>
>>5287908
I think a modern grunt kit would go better with an oddity kit.

So they have something to build with the grunt kit and then depending on the person an odd kit to have around being cool or to build as well.

Speaking from a /m/ POV tho, we love our grunts, I've noticed that /toy/ goes for big flash kits a bit more, which means Gundams more or less.

hey guys don't know if you know this but were less than 10 master grades away from the 200th mg ever made. mg gundam origins ver & v2 are 190 and 191 respectively(not counting expansion packs ie. unicorn hd color , exia ignition etc).

This is the Genoace guy from the last thread. I was attempting to make a gatling gun of sorts and people suggested I redo it so it looks more convincing. Does any of this help?

The handle from the Age rifle means I can have it be underslung. I also have a circular part that can be an ammo drum. If nothing else, I can just stick the Age handle onto the already made Ground Gundam rifle and use that, but if I can have a gatling gun instead it would be nice.

I really want to make a TMNT inspired piece, maybe with a Zaku as the base, given the green color & tree-trunk feet. Any ideas of what other kits I could use that might fit the look or color scheme? & what about its head, should I paint one to look turtle-esque, or use the head of a previously released TMNT figure, perhaps a mech variant? I'm putting together plans on making a 1/144 Perfect Gundam III ver Ka.

I've never bought the 1/144 HD vernier packs before though. I'm looking to replace those thrusters inside the shoulder with ones that look better. Should I be able to stuff three HD verniers into there? If not, what are some good alternatives?
>>
guys im in a pinch cant decide weather to get a mg gundam origins ver or mg turn x.

on one hand the origins gundam has the new 3.0 frame that i wanna check out and a few gimmicks and on the other the turn-x could be displayed next to turn a and i love syd meads designaaaaaaaaahhhhhh.

If the official vernier packs aren't enough, the company Kotobukiya has many different types of Verniers for cheaper. Sorry, but I don't have experience with either company's Verniers to say if they will for.

I just finished painting and am moving on to panel wash on mine. This kit had a metric ton of color apps that need painting for an hg. Backskirts, symbol, backpack, shoulders, toes, heels, thigh armor, face, and shins all needed painting touch ups, and that was just the bare minimum.

The kit essentially kept the cost down despite adding a full inner frame by sacrificing a lot of part seperation on the armor.

Possibly. I was using cotton buds and they were just barely damp with thinner.

I think the real issue was the fact that no matter what I did I couldn't get the coats of future to actually form a gloss coat. there was always an orange peel effect. That was three coats airbrushed AND two brush coated.

I'm fucking off future for anything but dipping canopies now as this is not the first time I've had this problem.

>>5289945

Pic related. It's on raised spots there but I've also gone down to primer on one of the legs and the other side of the head.

I'm not super happy. But shit happens and I have no one to blame but myself.

On to the next one I guess.

Use the proprietary thinner. Much like the Mr. Color line and their thinner, Tamiya paints play much more nicely with that expensive shit.

Not exactly.

Anything that contains white spirits can damage PS/ABS/etc when it is _STRESSED_.

Meaning: don't use enamel thinner or wash or gundam markers on sub-assemblies or shit WILL crack. Always disassemble first.

Warning on Tamiya enamel wash literally says this.

how is that kit btw?
>>
>>5290770
It doesn't matter if the plastic is stressed or not; mineral spirits can damage PS and ABS.

The reason for the "Plastic parts may become brittle. Avoid using on movable parts and take care when applying to load-bearing areas." label is because the plastic can become brittle and brittle plastic is bad for any moving parts or parts that are load bearing as it can easily break It has nothing to do with if the plastic is "stressed."

It's advisable that you just do a lacquer topcoat over your kit first.

YEEEEEEEEEEEES!

>tfw it went in stock right when I'm broke as fuck

I can live off of instant noodles for a week.
>>

fuck, amiami closed it's PO
>>
>We'll never get a kit of this, and I'll never be able to scratch build this

Why bother living?

The head is the only difficult part. The body is like 90% the same as seraphims with only a couple details simplified or changed, which don't look too hard to do.
>>
>>5290816
Not him but the seraphim kit is garbage. It doesn't follow the lineart proportions in the slightest, not even close.
>>
Good lord, why is there like, no space between the parts and the runners on SD kits? I can barely get my nippers in to cut.
