***READ THE GUIDE****

For those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Gunpla/Plamo Secret Santa!

Sign ups run until December 4th. I'll try to have everyone paired up by December 6th.

Like last year, I'm going to have everyone fill out a Google form so I can collect the information easily.

Also, if you have some kits in your backlog that you are willing to part with feel free to email me a list and estimated values.

>>must feel real stupid paying money for styrene rods

I'm a little out of ideas on what I can use styrene rods for. They're not like squarish strips of styrene that can be cut for crisp edges. Using them as pegs is beat out by using paper clips or wire.

What are some good uses for styrene rods? For sculpting what shapes?

Reposting in the new thread.

I fucked up.

I threw out a sprue which still had two pieces on it. They're long gone.

Is there any way i can replace them?

The set was HG MS-06R-1A ZAKU II.

The pieces were the two C1 27s, pictured. The bit with 573 on it.

>>
>>5282023
I would say more as design elements than for use in anything else. Like what the Ex-S has on a smaller scale, a bunch of rods around certain areas if you want a look like that. Or making a shield more robust by having rods on the outside edges, like the shape of the sun. Creativity goes a long way. Or pistons on the end of a melee custom's arm, to be similar to the Big-O.
>>
>>5282045
Unfortunately it's my only zaku, and I'd rather not buy one just to use for parts.

What if someone who has a zaku used theirs to make a replica with resin in a mold? How would i find someone who would be able to to that and mail the pieces? Is that plausible?

It seems retarded that anyone even wants the baselard when you could get zelfikar (the same kit with a shit ton of exra parts) the bombardment version (same kit with extra weaponry) or the cutlass (the same kit with revised & improved articulation). The baselard is the worst version of the 4 available.

Are there any SMD LEDs that you can buy pre-soldered?
>>
>>5282288

Well...you can top coat it if you really want that 'frosted glass look'.

Exactly what do you think a matte varnish is going to do to glossy clear plastic?
>>
>>5283150
How about a gloss coat ?
>>
I found how they could make the HG Barbatos so cheap yet have a full inner frame.

They skimp out on the part/color separation everywhere else on the armor to keep the parts count down. I'm painting it up now and these white parts are going to need a bunch of masking for all the exposed frame and color bits.
>>
>>5283168

It's already glossy why bother?

But if you want it to look glassy just dip the individual parts in Future, leave it to cure and then stick it back together.

If you were thinking about spraying it with gloss using anything other than an airbrush. Don't. All you'll do is frost the plastic.

One easy detail I noticed was that all 5 of the SEED 5 have a lot of hinges and wents that aren't color separated, I think just using the silver gundam marker to color them a bit metallic improved the look a lot. But I'm just a lowly snapfag and there are better ways of doing it of course.

Still stumbling along with the F71.

Gave up on messing around with seams as there's only so much I can do to save a kit that 14 year old me put together and I can't be arsed.

First light gloss-coat on to protect the paintwork from my greasy man-hands when I'm detail painting then it's two more coats of gloss, decals, gloss again for a panel line wash and then maybe some light weathering (a few chips and scratches).

Hopefully my builders parts hands will turn up between now and the end of that list so it doesn't have to go around like an amputee.

if you really want some recommendation, i suggest you watch gundam Unicorn episodes 1-7 then find out yourself what you really like from the mobile suits in the story.

or check this video (basically every suit from gundam unicorn):

mind you, not every MS in that video has a HG modelkit.

>>
>>5284207

Thanks for the video. I love unicorn, but since I just built kshatriya, I think I want my second kit to be from another series.

I noticed there were a few good kits on sale for HLJ, but I have a massive backlog of about 10 gunpla alone and a bunch of regular plamo I didn't put together.

Is the Mega Shiki and Medarot kits worth it? There's one Medarot kit that's 3150 yen off the listing price of 4500 so I find it hard to pass it up. But I feel like I wouldn't have bought it anyways. (i'm watching /m/'s new subs of Medarot currently though so it seems like perfect timing.) Plus, shipping costs can get really high if I'm not careful and add to much to the private warehouse.

tl;dr backlog of plamo, should I buy more because they're on sale? I'm going through backlog guilt.

It's only my second gundam build, working on decaling skill with it.

Next up is Gundam Astray red, then a MG rx-93 i plan on using for painting practice.

Putty, plastic cement, paint, possibly super glue and a pin vice depending on the kit in question. Non-giant robot plamo is on average a lot more tool intensive overall just to get a decent looking build, much less all the weathering and detailing you can do to models.

>>
>>5284858
I use Rustoleum enamel clear matte, which I'll assume is similar to use as the Krylon. It's fine, but I wouldn't use it for any work I put serious effort into. For a simple straight build it'll be good enough.
>>
>>5284858
IT works pretty well, as long as you're spray painting properly, which is what this guy isn't doing >>5284941
Most tutorials online just show them doing swirling motions, which is absolutely retarded.

The right way is like a dot matrix printer. Go straight across, evenly and at the same distance each time. Then the next spray motion slightly overlaps with the previous one and you go straight across again.

Most car spraying videos online show the proper technique, but you scale it down a bit for models by doing a pass quicker.
>>
>>5284962
Krylon's much better than Rustoleum and is actually better than some hobby sprays like Testors.

If things don't work then you make them work. That's something about gunpla unlike the game, if you haven't attempted something like this before.

Dalong.net has the building instructions of all those suits for you to check how well they match. Most backpacks don't take much work to put on another model if they're recent, especially main leads due to the All Gundam Project from when GBF aired.

This model is not mine, but it's Turn-A with Hi-Nu Vrabe backpack, basically what you asked so you can see how it looks. The website is modelers-g, it's got a bunch of suits people make on display, many of them customs.

Can you attach a regulator?
Can you bring the airpressure down to around 5-20 PSI?
Can you attach a moisture trap?

If yes to all three then you're good.
>>
>>5285113
Thanks for the picture and info.
My biggest concern is actually if they will work together proportion wise since the nu is a monster of a suit and I heard that the game would scale stuff slightly to have parts work together better
>>
>>5285130
Once again, Dalong.net has photos for comparison of height. His reviews for each suit has it next to a cigarette box, so you have a point of reference that is universal across them. And you can mash them up in Photoshop, or MSpaint if you don't own that.

Hi-Nu http://dalong.net/review/hg/h95/h95_p.htm
Turn A

Happy building, be sure to consult us for things that aren't common knowledge and DON'T risk your safety by using paints without the right conditions.

Not him but I'd agree, sticking rotating barrels on a random gun just doesn't make sense in any sense. If you really wanted a gatling gun then make a dedicated one that maybe has some sort of ammo drum and make it underslung or something rather than sticky-tacking barrels on the genoace's gun.
Otherwise, have you got a color scheme in mind for it?

I'm not a fan of the rifle nor the side skirts, also you may want to find a way to bulk out the waist since your using a larger backpack, and if your going to go with the add-ons to the head i suggest you file the genoaces head down so they are flush.

Here's mine, I'm just waiting to get time to prime and paint it
>>
>>5285268
I'll be sure to make the head look better, just didn't want to commit to anything before changing it too radically. I do plan to make it bulkier like I stated above with the armor builder parts. I like the side skirts fine, but there's nothing wrong wih messing around more and seeing if they would be better on a different part as armor, or just not on it.

The advice is much appreciated everybody.

How did you build it? I can't figure out how to weld the arms and legs but be able to paint the joints.
And the torso seam at the top, and the misaligned backpack, holy shit.
>>
>>5285540

yeah its a bitch if your painting. i primed the whole thing seperately in parts. re-assembled then moved it around a lot to see where the rub was. (IIRC the knees and elbows were the biggest problems) i sanded the crap out of those areas so there was at least 1 mil clearance then touched up those areas with primer & reassembled again to check the fit. I remember a 1cm circular barrel file was handy for the curved armor on the knees. I painted all the joints & the legs separately then assembled, glued and masked the joints off to do the seams on the legs & arms. I coulndnt figure out a better way, paint the joints first theyre easier to mask off later. as for the torso i glued the backpack to the torso & will airbrush it one piece. It fit with no problems on mine, what alignment problem are you having? also what top seam?

What on the Barbatos is seals? Just looking at it on Dalong, I'd say it's just the eyes and the symbols on the shoulders/chest/knees, but I'm not totally sure.

Eyes, power symbols, black areas on lower legs, red and black areas on sideskirts, white area on back thruster, black areas on thighs.

Sounds like a good kit for a snapfag to level up and learn detail painting

As someone working on it right now, it's a pain in the ass to paint.

Are there any effect parts that fit the laser blades on Armored Core kits? Do Gundam beam saber blades work or will I have to buy 3rd party stuff?

Are there any PE sets for Gundams?

Working on seam welding/filling for the first time. It's actually pretty fun. I'm sure I'd hate it if I were doing it on say, an hg gundam head unit, but so far its been pretty simple and relaxing.

Nearing the finish line on this old-ass F71 kit.

Just needs a final coat of future before decals, panel wash and some light weathering.

neat, those early 90s UC kits never get enough love, even if their proportions were a little wacky. unfortunately i have a hard time seeing any of them getting newer kits that arnt covered in tiny thruster stickers.

HGUC or Re/100 F90 and RXF91 fucking when
>>

It's not just proportions, his articulation, balance and seam placement is all awful...but I've had a surprisingly good time trying to save a kit I started 14 years ago.
