Was hoping to pick up an Ichimatsu figure, maybe a Figma. Not sure how much I'll enjoy it, as my only other Figma is a Cheerful Miku that I've put back in her box for several months now. I really do enjoy the character (Ichimatsu) though.
So it would be $49 if I make a preorder at my local store. Considering how the 3611 yen cost is 44, that's fair..

Bad for Japan and bad for us. Quick crash course, Japan wants to increase exports but can't if yen is strong. Yen was too strong so they printed tons of yen. Printing yen means less buying power for Japanese companies making toys in China. Prices on toys have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled for Japanese collectors. Awesome exchange rates ($1 = 125 yen) kept us from feeling the price increases. Economy fucks up in 2016 and now we are at $1 = 103.
Bank of Japan is committed to printing more money so strengthening yen isn't truly strengthening. Factory contracts don't adjust over night so it would be YEARS before a strong yen actually brought back cheaper toys. End result? Japanese consumers pay more, we pay more and everyone loses. Less toys are made, less accessories are included and more exclusives happen (because cutting out retailers = more profit for them)

The Chogokin IS in a different scale and DOES NOT look right next to all the other fate figma. The diecast IS easier to chip paint off of because that's an issue with the material in general. Those are objective facts.
The accessories being superior is subjective since they include different load outs. Chogokin has the chalice/cups and crossed arm part. Figma includes an alt upper body, chains and hair. Paint is subjective since figma looks closer to the official game art and some shots of the anime. Chogokin is closer to the fate/zero anime. Articulation is impossible to tell right now.
There is no denying it will fit into a figma display much better though, both in finish, sculpt and scale.

I also snagged archer around the same time, so the chogokins main issue is his inability to pose well below the waist, the die cast makes it a bit difficult which I don't mind since gil not standing around like a smug ass hole seems off to me anyway. Not really. As someone who owns all the Fate figmas I can say that they were in a pretty close scale between them including the Zero ones, but Archer is just wrong. He's 187 cm and Rin 159. That's 28 cm of difference between them. The top of Rin 2.0 head reaches Archer's nose, they are not even close. He looks somewhat better with original Rin, but still wrong.
Kiritsugu and Archer are pretty much the same size in figma form, but Kiritsugu is 175 cm tall. That's 12 cm of difference with Archer that are nowhere to be seen. It doesn't matter as much because you never see Kiritsugu and Archer together, but it's proof of how fucked up Archer's size in figma form is, because Kiritsugu actually scales well with every other Fate figma. What you said about the tiny head in relation to the other characters just confirms it, he's smaller than it should be.

There is an unusual amount of engineering put into it for a figma. All the points of articulation are greatly thought out, and she has a few articulation features not seen in any figma before or since.
It really made me hopeful that future figma's would have this level of thought put into them, but sadly that has not been the case at all.

At this point Goodsmile seems to have the monopoly on Vocaloid merch, and they've done a few runs of different and updated Vocaloids with their nendoroids, so I find it odd they haven't attempted Rin & Len 2.0 for Figma or a Luka 2.0.
The popularity of Vocaloid is also dropping somewhat in Japan so who knows. I find the original Rin to be ugly as sin too so we can only hope.

The green highlights in the show were shading from the neon lights of the city. No city lights, no highlights. Makes sense to me. I'm sure these same people would have called the figure shit if they had done the highlights because "it looks weird".

Bullshit, he had those highlights even in the middle of nowhere, pic related. Even if they are light effects, the crazy colored highlights are a staple of this anime, something that goes with the style of the show. Pretty much everybody was expecting them to recreate the highlights.

Unless Freeing fucked it up completely for some reason, not me. I've seen other figures with this kind of shading paintjobs and I like how they look.
