Buying, brewing, playing, tech.

Didn't watch much of that scg open, anything interesting going on there?

Have you guys made any changes to adapt to the meta?

What changes are you noticing out of other people?

>affinity doesn't give 2 shits when I drop a chalice for 0
Okay
And if you honestly think infect doesn't care about chalice for 1 you're also retarded, yeah, good luck playing a become immense after casting 0 1 drop spells, seems like a good idea.

I'll admit Jund is not great for my deck, but it still shuts off bolts and their discard. That can be as much as 1/4 of their deck, and that's a reasonable play for sure. Yeah it can get abrupt decayed, but if they don't have a follow up for my thopter sword combo they're going to lose.
>>
>>46708123
He can cast all the 1 mana spells he wants you mong, read the card. Blighted Agent costs 2.
>>
>>46708193
Do you really think become immense will resolve? It's essentially the only pump spell they can play, and between my 2 remand and 4 leaks, it's just not happening, infect cannot beat chalice for 1 if they have any sort of interaction to back it up. You're just wrong.

They stopped playing Eldrazi, too.

Did this:
4 Arid Mesa
2 Celestial Colonnade
1 Clifftop Retreat
1 Desolate Lighthouse
1 Hallowed Fountain
1 Island
1 Mountain
1 Plains
2 Sacred Foundry
4 Scalding Tarn
2 Steam Vents
3 Sulfur Falls
2 Detention Sphere
3 Lightning Helix
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Path to Exile
3 Remand
4 Serum Visions
4 Thought Scour
2 Grim Lavamancer
2 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
4 Restoration Angel
2 Snapcaster Mage
4 Wall of Omens
SB: 3 Spellskite
SB: 1 Wear // Tear
SB: 4 Anger of the Gods
SB: 2 Kor Firewalker
SB: 3 Rest in Peace
SB: 2 Stony Silence
>>
>>46708557
I was like you once, except without kiki jiki, then everyone started playing burn, and you don't always draw your 4 of timely.
>>
>>46708600
I ID'd vs Burn, but beat him 2-1.

2 Lavamancer, 4 Wall of Omens, 4 Bolt, 3 Helix, 3 Path and siding out 3 Remand/2 Sphere for 3 Spellskite/2 Firewalker is not easy for Burn.
>>
What is the cheapest top tier deck in modern? Thinking about making the leap to modern from pauper because local players use a real stupid ass rule system.
>>
>>46708745
"Cheapest" is a pointless criteria when you're pushing $1000.
>>
>>46708745
If your LGS is full of people turning creatures sideways, UW Turbo Tutelage is really fucking cheap and will make guys with Tarmo playsets cry

Against combo it is not so good
>>
>>46708745
Oh please share their rule system, I need a good laugh.
>>
>>46708886
The store I used to visit banned blue from pauper entirely
>>
>>46708039
>playing
Soul Sisters - Auriok Champion because I don't have the money for a Playset yet.

The deck is super fun to play, but I'm not sure if I'm running too many or too few lands. My highest cost is 5 with Archangel of Thune, but I rarely Hardcast it. 21 lands. but i may replace my two Brave the Elements with some more lands.

It's a fun deck, but will be more optimal with Champions, and maybe some Martyr of Sands.
>>
>>46708745
I think infect is still p cheap if you use ons fetches. the expensive parts go in other shit.
>>
>>46708745

Green Stompy is relatively cheap and has a solid gameplan. UW Tutelage isn't expensive but it has a hard time against Burn and some combo decks. You can probably build UR Delver relatively cheaply, but it isn't a very good deck right now. 8 whack is an aggressive weenies deck that has been somewhat popular and isn't expensive. Burn is always a decent deck, but certain staples are way too expensive for what they are.
>>
>>46708925
Wow banning delver is one thing but come on teachings is a fine deck.
>>
>>46709121
Banning blue from pauper and making kids and newcomers redraft their rares made so many usual customers leave
>>
>>46708886
All Commons printed on paper allowed. It's the same 2 guys wondering why there is such poor turn out when they use broken decks.

I'm from the MTGO card pool and banlist as it's the only officially sanctioned Pauper by Wizards and the meta is good and played thousands of times a day.
>>
A guy on an SCG deck tech wants Memeski Ascendency banned because it's "broken." Like what the hell is wrong with players in Modern these days?
>>
How is Tutelage Turbofog for casual/FNM/local tournaments?
>>
>>46709504
people cant handle the pure, dank nature of some combos. example: bloom titan
>>
>>46709542
As it with all non-tier decks, depends on the meta.
>>
>>46709504
A bunch of dicks tired of not being able to pay more to win want the storeowner to ban Howling Mine and such turbo enablers because modern turbofog is too much for them :^)

Life is full of idiots
>>
>>46709542

Like I said in >>46708802, if your LGS has many combat focused decks, you will usually do good
>>
>>46709567
>>46709602
Does Celestial Colonnade give the deck more anti-combo chance? Would Dragon's Claw or Safe Passage be acceptable anti-burn sideboard?
>>
>>46709669
Since the deck doesn't play any conventional disruption you have zero game against Ad Nauseam and even the full 15 sideboard isn't enough to fix that, you win Living End just by denying combat damage.
>>
>>46709702
What about the anti-burn sideboard?
>>
>>46709669
Safe Passage is a great sb card and I never thought about dragon's claw, gotta write that down somewhere!

I don't really like colonnades, but they do indeed help smacking combo decks in the face during the first game, but always sb Dispels just in case

And my secret tech: 1 copy of Prahv, Spires of Order can save lives. And Invasive Surgery if your LGS has any Scapeshift players, even without delirium, can make a difference[\spoiler]
>>
>>46709755
If you land a Firewalker followed by Tutelage, a mine and then fog all day every day I'd say the match is winnable, I'd side in some direct lifegain effects as well.
>>
>>46709822
Sweet, thanks! I'll look into that stuff.
>>
>>46708123
Isn't thopter sword amazing against jund if you can assemble the combo? All of their removal is 1-for-1, tokens blank lili and can chump goyf all day.

Abrupt decay obviously fucks you in the ass but you just gotta hope you draw more foundries than they do decays.
>>
>>46709857
Also, if your LGS doesn't have many decks with mb counters, some people prefer wrath over supreme verdict

If you're going to go burn (which is a fine deck, btw), get 4x Bloodstained Mire/4x Wooded Foothills before they get ridiculous.

Also, Eidolon of the Great Ravel isn't getting any cheaper, so get a playset of those.

You're going to need those 12 cards for Burn and they're the cards that stand out as "not too expensive right now, but poised to go up considerably in value".
>>
>>46712178
Also, Atarka's Command probably won't get reprinted soon and is relatively cheap now.
>>

Kor Firewalker can stop the bleeding pretty well against burn game 2. Maybe I'll run two Martyrs just to tutor them up with Ranger of Eos.

I can't get it to reliably beat the aggro in my meta.

On the other hand, I can at least work over burn and infect with this >>46708557
>>
>>46712546

If you don't want to buy fetches, you can always build 8whack. The only expensive card is Goblin Guide and you can improve it later with stuff like Cavern of Souls or use Goblin King + Blood Moon. The downside is that it ultimately won't be as good as Naya Burn so it's pretty much a dead end and many of the cards aren't used in other decks.

Don't play a tier 1 deck. Play this one:
http://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/401866#paper

Everything in it is super cheap. The hallowed fountains are manditory. The fetches can be any color, but they are super useful with sun titan recursion.

You are a dog to combo but you do really well against aggro. Tron puts it in your butt, too. You could play mono white in the meantime, using wrath and oblivion ring in place of verdict and detention sphere, but the UW version is waaaay better.

Storm used to be dirt fucking cheap, but its on its way up now. Dunno how it fits into the new meta.

Which sees play in modern? Which are more well known? Which defined the fucking format? Quit being dense.

>Company is more vague
Twin: UR Twin, RUG Twin, UWR Twin, Grixis Twin. All of these decks play in a similar manner, some variants emphasizing different aspects, such as RUG focusing more on tempo, and grixis being more grindy. When someone says they play Twin you know what you're playing against: a URx combo deck with tempo and control elements.

Company: Naya Company, Bant Company, Abzan Company, Elves, Allies, Slivers, or literally any creature deck that has green in it can play CoCo. And they all play completely differently from one another.

They aren't talking about the card, they're talking about the deck and its construction. When someone says "twin" you know they mean a UR(x) tempo/combo deck thats primary win condition is an infinite combo with exarch and splinter twin. Compare to "Company" where it could refer to several different colors with several win conditions and different combos available to it. The guy who flipped out at the other guy for saying he wanted to build a "Company" deck is an autist don't get me wrong, but his point isn't completely off base.

Can someone give me the angel list that was on a modern torunament?

Total newfag here. I haven't been on this board before, sorry if this is the wrong place.

I'm new to mtg (understand the mechanics / how to play etc) and was wondering if there are any good packs / kits to get me started? I know they're basic, I want to slowly build myself up and I will just be playing with friends (ie. I don't wanna spend 1000 bucks)...

Hey, had a quick question about MTG and figured it wasn't worth making a thread about so I'm asking here.

I'm just getting back into the game and was playing against some friends with my old Izzet deck, and I put down a Gelectrode one turn and put a Quicksilver Dagger on it the next and commenced to tapping assuming it would deal two damage. My friends however were saying that the Dagger's effect overrode Gelectrode's and I'd only deal the one damage and draw a card on the tap, which sounds bullshit to me.

Do tap effects stack? I feel like if they were doing it they'd say it stacked.

Fuck. Forgot pic.
>>
>>46719329
so the gelectrode will have two different abilities, both of which require you to tap it to activate them. so they don't stack. if it said something like "when this creature becomes tapped..." they would stack.
>>
>>46719329
>Quicksilver Dagger
Not a Modern-legal card.
>>

its like having a dollar coin and trying to buy 2 $1 pops. Each costs a dollar, you can't take the action of paying 1 dollar and get both pops just from them having the same cost
>>
>>46719382
Ah, okay then. So if I had two tap effects on the same creature could I choose which one I want to activate or would it go by whichever one is most recently placed onto the card?
>>
>>46719443
You choose. You decide which to activate, choose targets and other stuff, then pay the cost. You won't be unable to activate an ability just because it gained an additional one with a similar cost.

Borrowed my friend's shardless BUG legacy deck today and loved it. Is there a similar modern deck? I like that pro-active mid-range style deck.

>>
>>46724749
Honestly, I see expeditions staying at the same price or even lowering in price in the next year or so because of reprints, deck popularity, etc.

Also, as long as bfz packs and boxes are standard retail price, expeditions will not go up very much.

But once it goes out of print, if you wanna wait like 5-10 years, your watery grave will double in price.

Shardless is pretty much the apex of value decks in regular magic. There's nothing comparable to it in modern. We would be close if Shardless agent was modern legal

In Lantern Control the card actually advances one's gameplan since it gives you info on their deck/sideboarding, hand and shrinks the set of relevant cards in your opponent's deck, making your lock more resilient to variance (3-4 runners in a row when you have only 1 millrock etc). UWR can just counter everything it can't deal with it if it hits the board.

Yes it did, but that wasn't relevant to the discussion they were having.

All twin decks were the same shell but some splashed different colors. Twin defined the deck.

Collected Company can be used in a large variety of decks. All it does is let us know the deck is creature heavy and mainly 3 CMC or less, it can be anything beyond that.
