It's not a secret, I will shout my pleasure to the heavens. I love me some adventurers in full garb, whether it's armor, robes, cloaks, masks, or whatever it is. Little to no skin or visible body showing, just gear. Bonus points if said adventurer is strapped up in full equipment that is visible, not just hiding in a sack or behind their back, they gotta look like they are ready for anything.

Also capes. I love me some capes, and scarves, and fur trim, lots of fur trim.

>Said base is extremely comfy. Not some huge stone castle or some dingy house in the city, but something like a cabin built into a crook in the mountain, or an overgrown mossy cabin snuggled up in the depths of the forest, the inside large, but filled with a large amount of stuff, both useful and just trophies. It looks crowded and unorganized, but also shows a clear rich history of those who live there, and nothing is actually in the way.

I always insert bits from the holocaust and the history of world war two when I gm, regardless of genre.
My favorite part of being a player is creating revolts, either between the players and the gm or conflicting groups among the players. I have long since abandoned direct violence (which puts me in a bigger risk than the targets), and simply use satire, manipulation and propaganda.
My biggest success is when I can convince the others I am a complete harmless idiot, since this means I can do anything I want and nobody will take care to protect their secrets.
I love it when an extreme or extremely vocal personality joins the group. Bonus points if they are also unadjusted. They are perfect distractions and can often be used without their knowledge.

Having a party composed of characters which are highly different from each other so far look, abilities and races go. Gotta love when the tiny kobolds/goblins/fairies do teamwork with large party members.

You insert an insidious cabal overblowing epidemics and inventing atrocities in order to demand reparations and support for their own atrocities in the name of securing themselves a homeland in order to be 'safe'?

I think it's because there is a disproportionate representation of jews among those in the financial sector and heading up massive, amoral multinational companies who seek to trick people into destructive debt spirals and exploit the disadvantaged.

The financial sector is unbelievably corrupt, and their practices grow ever more unsustainable as currency becomes more and more divorced from Real Value (goods and services - currencies used to be backed by a promise of exchange for something real, often gold or silver, but are becoming increasingly independent of that.)

The Holocaust is a contentious part of history precisely because it is so taboo to even question the facts. Even now, it is shockingly "anti-semitic" to mention that not even official sources now claim that six million jews were deliberately killed - and people can be locked up for suggesting that the majority of deaths were actually from malnutrition and poor medical care in camps that became worse and worse supplied as the war came to a close - or from their mistreatment at the hands of the conquering Soviets.

The Third Reich is often hailed as a great success, because at least in part by foregoing monetary exchanges in international trade for barter because of their cruelly devalued currency, the Germans managed to turn their crumbling nation into an emergent superpower - an impressive feat no matter how you slice it.

>>
>>48207610
The camps existed. Obviously. But to gas people effectively you should probably have airtight rooms for the purpose, if not for efficiency's sake then at least for the safety of your own people.

'Ghettos' are formed all over the world by insular minorities who don't want to assimilate. It's not unusual. Bad practice, maybe, but that's for you to take up with those inward-looking cultural enclaves.

Pogroms likewise likely happened, but like many things I suspect were overblown in the media - and if they weren't, then relocating the targets of such attacks to safe camps actually seems... very considerate, don't you think? Tensions were high after vicious conflicts financed by certain wealthy elites aimed at destabilising Germany further. In some cases anger was justified.

Anti-Jewish legislation is presumably a matter of record. You'd have to be insane to go against evidence.

You seem to be under the misguided impression that I don't believe they were mistreated at all. That's patently untrue: but I think our history is clearly biased because we need to demonise the people who lost the war in order to justify the atrocities we committed to win it.

Of course I give the DM full veto rights, but the DM pretty much went with everything I offered with only slight adjustments to some of the aspects regarding one of the religions.

You're missing the point

Darkness was almost laughable with how many ways you had to get around it, take away Darkvision for a bunch of races and suddenly you have to worry about it. It made the campaign challenging in an unusual way.

Same with the other thing. Towns and shops weren't accessible in the normal way, really emphasized the hobo part of murderhobo and finding a place that would even serve us is a reward all on its own.

Do you know what makes my DM boner ROCK FUCKING HARD?

Roleplaying.

I'm not talking like "Hurr my character is lawful good, imma smite evil!", no I mean actual acting. I mean banter between characters that actually consists of players TALKING ABOUT EVENTS, PUZZLES, AND QUESTS. I mean players that put some effort into sounding like someone other than an asshole in a tshirt. I mean players actually making me believe that I don't need to constantly be saying "What do you want to do next?" because otherwise they'd just sit silently waiting to be herded.

I mean players that show up to actually become someone else for a few hours.

These people don't exist. I've looked.

Oh, and another thing; Players that actually seem somewhat fucking interested, if not outright excited, when they actually beat an enemy. I've never once seen it.

That "growth" that is so adored was a series of borrowing loans they could never repay, raising taxes, extreme coercion and societal pressure to conform for the fatherland, eventual slave labor, blowing through scarce material, and plundering every conquered nation. This all amounted total economic implosion.

It was unsustainable economic practice in every scenario and Germany could never have been a superpower. It was only impressive in how incredibly irresponsible and short sighted the whole venture was.

But no, it really hasn't been. As a concept it's only developed over the last couple centuries, and even then only took real hold in the 20th Century. I'm not saying that they were no examples of such activity before(i.e. the Mongols), but it usually wasn't an active military objective to completely destroy everyone on the other side. Things like sacking and looting were generally a product of victory, not a product of directed military action during a campaign.

By the way, I'm not arguing the morality of total war here, just being autistic about history.

Oh jeez, you don't know what you're asking for. I'm in a group with someone like that right now (a Character Actor type player) and they are so obsessed with 'character authenticity' that it ruins the actual 'game' part of roleplaying game. They go off and chat with random NPCs for hours at a time, learning about the world and forcing every other player to sit there and wait for them to get back so the REAL adventure can get started. They grind the story to a screeching halt because they're more interested in learning about the homelands of the other PCs than they are actually talking to the other PCs themselves. They're the kind of people who decide to make gay marriage legal instead of saving the realm from an incoming legion of skeletons, because "It's what my character would want to do."

Those "I smite the orc in the face!" guys may not bring much depth to the adventure, but at least they care about the main plot and want to participate in the encounters you're prepared. These people you're looking for aren't going to be any more pro-active than the players that need 'herding', because all their energy is going to be directed to inconsequential content that you never even bother writing down.

Take it from me, what you're looking for isn't Character Actors, it's Storytellers. You want players who care about moving the plot forward and appreciating all the hard work and prep you've done.

From what I've been able to find, the Romans did it to the Carthaginians, but there are no other ancient examples of the strategy. As far as I can tell, there was no "systematic" practice of total war against anyone else. And again, I said that there were other examples of such activity. It was done by people before, but it was not the norm. It couldn't even have been the norm for the Romans, because one of their biggest advantages was their integration of conquered tribes and civilizations. Wouldn't be very useful if they killed everyone who opposed them.

I have mixed feelings on the subject of this. A lot of times, any sort of super character actors are really obnoxious, but I had a game that was partially saved by one who kept the intent of driving the story along as his main concern.

>High stakes game about the world being consumed by a plague of necromantic undeath.
>The entire party are wafflers that spend 4 sessions doing half a session's worth of adventuring and proactive work to stop the scourge
>New player comes in with a completely no-nonsense, Lawful Asshole Paladin.
>Kicks the rest of the party in the pants and makes the game actually run at a decent pace.
>Rest of the party wants to try and parlay and negotiate with a clan of orcs that have been pillaging? Paladin man smashes the lead orc in the fucking face and starts a fight.
>Continues to lead the party despite his character being a total dick to the other characters, constantly accusing them of cowardice.
>Continues at a grueling pace despite taking a cursed shard of necromantic obelisk in the eye, leading to a slow, creeping death.
>Pulls a Boromir death to get the rest of the party into the final dungeon.
>Rest of the party lays him to rest after defeating the BBEG, the first person to truely die since the beginning of the scourge.
>Lament that they never learned his full name and only one of them saw under his helmet before his death.

Under any other circumstance of game, this character would've been completely intolerable, but he was the only thing that kept the campaign from falling apart prematurely. Nice guy outside of the roleplay, too.

The first wars we got documents of generally end with forced mass-deporation of the population. Not even the biblical jews comitted genocide anywhere other than in their fapfic.

>Transformation, be it technological (cyberpunk), magical, biological (transhumanism) or some such on character level to a degree that it significantly affects character's life. Regardless of type, it has to have some effect on the character storywise. Not just "eyecandy".

I'd propably have to say that my magical realm is transformation and things related to it. I just get this giddy and happy feeling when it happens in game. Regardless of target. It is really nice surprise but it is not necessary for enjoyment of the game.

It is even better when it creates conflict in story or an obstacle that has to be overcome. As an example I got guilty pleasure in cyberpunk game where my characters right arm got shot off (That was actually quite disturbing). To be able to continue working as professional, he had to get an artificial arm and that led to introspection about how much that arm defines him from there on. It is now part of him but it isn't actually him. This is what makes it interesting. Thought to mention this.

>Helps deal with the cutthroats and starts whipping the townfolk into shape to deal with the orcs looming in the nearby forrest
>Becomes party leader by barking orders louder than the rest
>Arguably most well liked party member in spite of being a complete wanker
>Campaign ended with all nearby threats to the townsfolk being dealt with and the Ranger heading off on his own into the mountains to kill more orcs

My only regret about that character was playing him in the sequel campaign.

I love to play generally weak girlyboy characters, usually spellcasters of some sort.

Bonus points if i'm allowed (or am able to sneak) to get generally subpar stats and such.

Double Points if my character is generally accepted as worthless in-character by the rest of the party.

Triple Points if there is a character in the party who is better at my character's niche, but also in most other ways (A caster who is both better physically as well as a stronger caster with better spells, for example)

Quad Points if the party starts using me to do mundane or embarassing things since i'm so useless otherwise, such as tending their animals, carrying all their extra stuff, tripping traps for them, taking curses for them, being bait for monsters for them...Also being forced to take new spells for their comfort while leaving the cool, flashy spells for someone else.

Quintuple Points if the party actively doesn't allow me to get any good/magical loot and only gives me an absolutely miniscule fraction of the loot from adventures in general.

x1000 points if I get cucked.

I miss that game so much ;_;

Planning on doing this to my players soon. They purchased an old tavern and turned it into a mercenary base where people can purchase contracted muscle. Their primary antagonist is the Governor who controls the city, lots of political rivalry between him and the party face, a bard.

>They get home after dealing with dragon hunting
>Base is empty, besides two faces
>The bartender (Bard's wife)
>The Governor is at the bar with a goblet of wine
>They are pleasantly chatting when the party arrives.
>Governor has shut down their merc company with legalese
>They missed the court summons so they are due for jailtime
>Governor is there to gloat

I'm going to drop some hints that they need some of the paperwork the Governor has, try to inspire a bank heist style break-in for the legal papers.

I really can't wait for it.

>Doing this
Don't do it man. It's the faces that snap hardest.
>Group negotiator has this happen to him (he opted for a bar and barter market)
>Rep of the crown is here to deliver the news for not taxing all transactions and having it handed over to the Queen (he used a license fee instead and that went into the running costs)
>Takes a bottle of his finest wine from upstairs
>Clubs the guy to death with it while shouting about taking away his happiness (former spymaster, this was him retiring)
>Saws up the body and has it dumped in the lake
>Has us fortify the place to heck
>Massive riot breaks out as both sides escalate in response
>Snowballs into civil war as a successor war starts
It's kinda scary. He was so pleasant before that. Never would lift a finger or even say a bad word IC.

In a sense. Yes. If it has a meaningful impact or drives the story onwards. I don't play dnd though so I'm not sure if you have something specific you are after there. But following what TV Tropes says about it, yes.

The fuck? That's a waste of potential character development if I heard it.

me and most of my playgroup are like this, we improve world build while remaining in character. the only problem is when it gets too involved and halt the story, but we've gotten pretty good noticing when that happens and moving along. honestly the main reason i dm is because i love to world build.

8 times out of 14. Suddenly my whole "gimmick" is gone so I shouldn't exist as a character apparently. Like we're dvati without the fluff.

dude you sound like a fucking wuss, some people just don't like world-building in cooperation with others (or world-building at all), that doesn't mean they don't love interacting with a world that already exists or appreciate your world

Personally I fucking loathe working with others when it comes to worldbuilding. If I don't have complete creative control, I just don't want to bother at all. I don't at all mind being a participant in a world in which I have no influence on its constituent parts though

> Two player game
> We agree that we are 2 Viking Brothers, He the crazy Berserker, I the Tribal Shaman.
> His min-max approach to combat allows me to focus on my shaman-y abilities, as well as stuff for NPC interactions.
> We find a happy medium where he slaughters all but one of any enemy party, who I then interrogate for clues.
> DM starts allowing me to convince NPC's to join us.
> MFW we build up our very own custom raiding party and start pillaging elven territory.

Even though you're wrong, "it's what my character would do" is something most of my group still wont get past. We even kicked a player because he played his first character as an edgy moron who kept trying to attack other party members, then when we killed him for it he said "that's okay, I didn't like that character anyway, he kept doing stupid things" and made another character with the exact same personality.

You can't blame the character when it's you who doesn't understand what a team game is. Let the DM make the enemies instead of making a special snowflake.
