how do you plan on actually getting your fatties into the graveyard besides buried alive? I would run more draw + discard like careful study and thirst for knowledge, entomb is good too. Plus you probably want more reanimation spells, reanimate, life//death, dance of the dead, necromancy, exhume, etc.

There isn't much not to comprehend. You said you're cutting back on buying cards, and going to slap the ones that kind anon suggested for you on a list with a half-sentance dismissive answer. And now you're doing whatever you think you're doing now. It's just embarassing.

I haven't played EDH since just before DTK was released.

Have any of the new sets given Nekusar any new toys to wheel and deal, or any good tech cards for Grixis?

I should probably remake my deck, to be fair, but I'm just looking at what's new that would work with the deck.

Which of the Budget commanders should I look into making? I'm looking for a cheep deck that can still hold its own against other decks, so I'm fine going into powerful strategies out the gate.

Talrand, Sky Summoner (Counter magic and board suppression)
Geth, Lord of the Vault (Reanimator)
Wrexial, the Risen Deep (Dimir funstuff)
Zada, Hedron Grinder (Draw and Damage)
Rakdos, Lord of Riots (Damage into Dragons and Demons)
Korlash, Heir to Blackblade (Swamp themed)
Teferi, Temporal Archmage (Blue goodstuffs)

All of these are made under $200 but which of these would be too crazy for just casual play or which would be the most interesting for casual play?

Since we are mimeoplasm posting, here is my list:

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/19-08-15-mimeo-edh/

I have it tuned for a more competitive meta where the decks I see most often are daretti stax, maelstrom wanderer, karador, and U/B control. The idea of the deck is to win as early as possible with buried alive, hermit druid, or jin gitaxias. My next pickups for the deck are mana crypt and force of will, so besides those, I am constantly looking to improve this list and would appreciate any input.

>>48192345
sorry bud, torrent elemental is trash. There are much better things to reanimate
>>
>>48192367
Deathrite Shaman isn't really a hatebear but somehow still manages to be the best hatebear. Other than that, I've found creatures that destroy artifacts/enchantments to be immensely useful in every situation (Reclamation Sage, Qasali Pridemage, etc.) And then there's Containment Priest that always seems to get mad value. And Mother of Runes is pretty good at protecting your stuff AND getting through because Anafenza quickly gets outclassed on the ground.

The Leonin Arbiter type guys are good but I haven't been impressed, someone's going to wrath the board eventually and all the tutors people have been sitting on will fly out at the same time.
>>
>>48192513

>>48192367
Expanding on this, the issue with Anafenza Hatebears in multiplayer commander is that your lock pieces WILL get caught in wraths. Many of them. So it's my experience that your best hatebears aren't really bears, they're things like Stony Silence or Rest in Peace which you'll want to tutor out pretty much all the time. The creatures are used to handle more immediate issues (Phyrexian Revoker for instance can give you a temporary answer to many things without having to use removal), but I've found myself having to run a lot of creatures that aren't hatebears but that can dish out big damage or get mad value, like Scute Mob, Abzan Falconer, Sun Titan, etc. And also obvious ones like Eternal Witness and Den Protector, and you don't need to point out the stupidity of running those in a deck that wants to frequently tutor out Rest in Peace, Anafenza needs to make a lot of compromises in multiplayer.
>>
My mimeoplasm, for reference. Why have your deck full of fairs when you can use value and use their own creatures against them?

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/its-all-about-the-little-things-in-life/
>>
>>48192596
but why not just get skithiryx + 6 power creature and kill someone? what is so great about tapping creatures? You can cast misthollow griffin from exile, but you don't see everyone jamming that into mimeoplasm
>>
>>48192367
Long-time D&T player here. You kind of have to accept the fact that the hatebears aren't there to lock out the game: they're there to slow the game down while you set up powerful recursion engines and wincons.
>>
>>48192644
Because skittles is too expensive / not available in lgs and online store? Just a cheaper alternative, I think
>>
>>48192693

>>
>>48192767
One of my favorite new tricks in 8.5 is Burnished Hart+Emeria Shepherd. It's pretty good at land ramping while simultaneously maintaining board presence.
>>
>>48192767
Good wincons in Anafenza are any of the Saffi Eriksdotter combos. Most of the cards involved are cards you might consider in the deck either way so there isn't much opportunity cost (if any) in throwing a combo in there. You've got excellent tutors and recursion in Abzan to set that up.

Not only faster.
I can win by turn 4 or 5 with a good hand, what I'm looking for with infect cards is consistency and an optional wincon because I noticed if someone plays Aura Shards I need to either remove it or him from the game and I don't have too much enchantment removal.
I also die too quickly but I already got cards for lifegain in mind.

Painter Grindstone is a completely colorless combo that requires only 6 mana and can be split up.

>>
>>48193949
It's banned because the rules committee fears that every deck would run Painter's Servant + Iona / Grindstone if it wasn't, the former being too unfun and the latter too oppressive (and colorless). Yes, the rules committee is a bit dumb.
>>
>>48194236
I mean, there's legitimately no reason not to run a two card combo that is entirely colorless and is on incredibly cheap cards in every deck.

They could ban Grindstone, I guess. But Painter's does have other abusive junk associated with it.
>>
>>48194279
There are tons of reasons. Namely that the two cards don't synergize with the rest of your deck. What the fuck is a Grindstone worth as a draw when you don't have the Painter's Servant? What the fuck is either card doing for you after you wasted a tutor assembling the combo only to have one of the pieces removed in response?

Only awful players would even think to throw Painter's Servant / Grindstone in all their decks. It would still only go in combo decks that have more synergies with either/both card.
>>
>>48194348
Two card combos are fragile, but that's true of any. Most combos fold to instant speed removal, but that's only a problem if a lot of resources were invested.
>>
>>48194384
Which is not the point of the post you're responding to. The point is that Painter's Servant and Grindstone, in most decks, are bad cards. They're only good when put together, and even then, they're rarely going to win you the game in multiplayer. You're sacrificing two deckslots for that, when you could be running good cards instead.

The combo would be used in some decks but not all of them as some idiots (see: the RC) seem to think, most properly built decks would have no desire at all to throw this combo in.
>>
>>48194416
"Most properly built decks", huh? So, what decks are these? Zur? Scion Hermit Druid?

I'll be completely frank here, I play garbage decks. But I've seen competitive lists and decks and I genuinely think they can afford two deckslots to such a cheap, colorless two-card combo.

People underestimate the value of just good stuff. Synergy is fun and all and is a big part of the spirit of the format, but I have a hard time believing that it is a necessary component of highly tuned lists.

But hey, I'm an idiot apparently, so what do I know.
>>
>>48194535
Garbage decks shouldn't want this combo either. Are you really going to dilute something like Aurelia even further by throwing in two cards that do next to nothing outside of their exclusive relationship? Deck slots aren't free.

I like the cut of your jib.

Do you actually run massacre wurm? I find him almost impossible to cast in a non-monoblack deck.
>>
>>48195130
That's pretty neat, alter-anon. Do you do things with foils too? I have a whole stack of relatively spiffy things that could be fun. Urabask is one of the first to come to mind.
>>
>>48195133
Yeah, I play him in jund and it's actually fairly rare that casting him is hard. I'm playing all the duals, shocks, bouncelands, on color fetches, Graven Cairns, Urborg, and six rainbow lands though, so color screw usually isn't an issue for me. Gotta cast them mana intensive spells.

I can paint over foils, but unfortunately nothing more. I'm still practicing!

I'm willing to try anything, I can "extend" borders like the hunding alter by painting them a single color, or I can crudely paint over cards like pic related.

If you want me to paint anything, feel free to get in contact!

Is there anything more awkward than realizing one of your friends had been playing with 2 copies of a couple of cards in his deck, just to improve the chances of him stomping every game?

It was extremely uncomfortable. It was pretty obvious what he was doing and he couldnt play it off well. He was always "that guy" but this was on another level. What do we do, stop playing with him?

Call him a faggot to his face.

Seriously, tell him that you know he's stacking, demand proof that he's not, and give him a simple ultimatum either way: shape up or ship out. Then, if he continues to abuse it, kick him out coldly and as robotically as possible. He'll know what he did.

That shit pisses me off more than anything else. This game is literally pay-to-win, and they resort to that kind of bullshit just to stroke their own egos? Bullshit. Pure bullshit.
>>
>>48195367
Either call him out face-to-face or be a dick about it, and netdeck an amazing mill deck. Have someone play abyssal persecutor or whatever to keep the game going, then when everyone has zero cards, durdle and go through his graveyard one card at a time to watch him sweat.
I'm way over thinking things, but I think it'd be funny.
>>
>>48195367
I wouldn't be too upset at him anon. His self-worth must be low if he has to win a casual card amongst his friends at all costs. At least cheating in a competitive environment gets you prizes. Reminds me of a guy in our playgroup who gets a turn 3 Sorin literally every game. No one calls him out on it because it's just kinda sad and it isn't even as good a play as he thinks it is.

The problem with these is that equipment decks are usually Voltron decks, and it's hard to justify running equipment that doesn't give you more killing power though either power boosts, granting doublestrike or something like Inquisitor's Flail. These make attacking easier/more reliable, but you aren't actually killing your opponent any faster. Even something like Sword of the Animist offers a power boost while performing its primary role (ramp). If I ran these and drew them, I'd probably be wishing they were any other equipment in the deck. It would be different if they at least offered protection to the equipped creature via hexproof or indestructible, but they don't do any of that. Still, there are may worse equipments in the game already I suppose.

>>
>>48196366

>>
>>48196421
That's the home plane of the Mimeoplasm.

>Little is known about the bizarre entity that crawls the world of Muraganda. The fang druids call it the Mimeoplasm, as it absorbs the traits of anything it engulfs. The saurid warriors of the south seek out the Mimeoplasm wherever it roams, believing it to be the key to a mysterious afterlife, hoping to see in it traces of their fallen loved ones. The elves of the tropics believe it to be part of nature's cycle, a way to channel death back into life. The scarwitches hiss when it approaches, seeing it as the ultimate enemy of the world. Whether it's a natural process or a malevolent force, the Mimeoplasm never fails to command respect.

go for sidisi

i used to play alot of grimgrin zombie tribal, got bored playing it and i upgraded it to sidisi, only adding the zombie lords and the sidisi staples.

and boy is it fun for everyone. 1/3rd of your wins will be from Dread return into laboratory maniac and winning from flashbacking the deep analysis

you usually have 10 to 5 zombies on the board at all times,

you always have something to spend your mana on because there is going to be a huge graveyard that has tons of flashback/recursion

you will be milling your entire deck with one card such as mirror-mad phantasm or hermit druid

they just printed gitrog so you have insane syngery with that guy too, drawing cards left and right

even if you accidentally mill an artifact or an enchantment, you can always return it with glissa, buried ruin, academy ruins, eternal witness, greenwarden of murasa, nyx weaver. and you can return those things from the graveyard with genesis, sheoldred, gisa&geralf (soon), phyrexian delver, phyrexian reclamation, dread return, most of the things mentioned above.

sidisi has so much fucking synergy, your turns wont take too long usually and if they do, its something that everyone can appreciate. and she is super fun too. people laugh usually when they see 80 cards go to my graveyard in a single turn. people applaud when i win with lab-maniac because its not a degenerate infinite combo.

few things that are bad about her is that you cant afford putting much non-creature cards in there. most of your stuff is going to the graveyard and you need 37-40 creatures to get your sidisi trigger off most of the time.

>>
So what is the general feeling on scrylands in edh?
>>
>>48198266
I like playing no more than two. They can make an iffy starting hand a lot better, but like all taplands they become exponentially worse in multiples.
>>
>>48198266
All my friends play them. I cant stand lands that come in tapped without a huge upside, so I just dont.
>>
>>48198266
Depends on the deck. I like them in top heavy decks or in decks that have a hard time getting extra draws.
>>
>>48198266
I think scrying is great. It helps to plan your next turn before it even comes up. It's not as good as a fetchland obviously, but certainly better than the guild gates.

Why don't I see more bouncelands in EDH?
>ensures that you get a land next turn too
>basically +1 card, makes many mulliganed hands OK
>the only tempo drawback is playing a tapped land, no more tempo lost than a guildgate or scryland, and pretty often you don't need the untapped land anyways the turn you play it
>insane with exploration, burgeoning, or similar cards
>can be used for dank utility such as recurring a bojuka bog/mosswort bridge/scryland or even bouncing and replaying a nykthos or cradle if you've got an exploration or oracle out
The main excuse I hear is that they're weak to land destruction, but the only common targeted land destruction is strip mine or wasteland, and if someone DOES end up blowing it up, that's just one less strip mine to go after your nykthos or gaea's cradle or windbrisk heights or whatever.
>>
>>48197096
You're actually gonna play Mind's dilation in Teferi...? I know it's the set's big goofy Commander enchantment but eh. They did make some neat stuff for mine though, mostly the boring but very practical Unsubstantiate and the more fun-but-probably-not-gonna-pan-out Curious Homunculus//Voracious Reader and Imprisoned in the Moon off the top of my head. Nahiri's Wrath I'm also eyeing for Daretti, it's really powerful in that deck.

Campaign of Blood is not very good but I'd probably consider it in Karlov, but I'm probably gonna switch to Ayli anyway since I believe she's more competitive and she doesn't want that kind of effect. Thought about Terrarion and Bedlam Reveler for Daretti too but probably not.
>>48199373
The MAIN main excuse is mostly that if money isnt an object than the manafixing and utility land quality is high enough that you shouldn't need to even play stuff like the karoos. But they're fine if that's all you can afford. The amount of time you'll actually lose because of the tempo loss of having it blown up is probably pretty low realistically. The main ladn destruction you need to be worrying about or mass destruction effects though which are more likely to hit it than targeted strip mines and such. But again at that point you were fucked anyway probably
>>
>>48199373
They normally come in tapped is my issue, I need fast mana.
>>
>>48199483
I play it in conjunction with all the expensive duals and it's still great, often even better than duals. Burgeoning followed up with a bounceland is one of my favorite possible plays.
>>
>>48199534
Most high end decks don/t play stuff like Burgeoning and sometimes not even stuff like Exploration. That's fine if you do, just saying that isn't the majority of highly tuned decks which have an emphasis on speed over everything else.
>>
>>48199483
>You're actually gonna play Mind's dilation in Teferi...? I know it's the set's big goofy Commander enchantment but eh

My Teferi deck is just a tad too powerful for my meta, which is funny considering it is far from optimized. I run a healthy mix of blue goodstuff and janky, but interesting cards to water the deck down a bit. Mind's Dilation slots in nicely.
>>
>>48199534
>>48199580
Also remember these decks tend towards very, very, very low land counts even with the new mulligan rules, which means only the best of the best get in
>>48199346
Have you thought about Curious Homunculus/Voracious Reader? It should flip very easily in Nekusar, comes down early, and the mana cost reduction seems like it should be effective in a combo deck like Nekusar

Can I get some feedback on this?
Theme is human tribal, I'm trying to avoid using non-humans as much as possible (though I'm getting close to caving and putting sun titan in)
pre emptive: there are 31 lands but it runs 9 ramp spells and the curve is low, I rarely have mana issues when I play it.
>>
Oh, I forgot Fortune's Favor. I wish it drew five since having a facedown set seems like a pretty big strike against it and it ruisn the symmetry with the original but I think it might still be ok, but blue has a lot of good stuff to be playing what's going to be an effective instant speed 4 draw 2.

2 players on the same team each using nekusar. Whenever their opponent's draw(2 each) its 4 overall dmg. When both nekusar are out, its 6 dmg. Setup by recurring Sidisi and basically tutor for whatever you want every turn, then it either combos off:

Sedraxis Alchemist + Rooftop Storm,
Cloudstone Curio + Rooftop Storm = infinite storm -> tendrils of agony

Cloudstone Curio + Rooftop Storm + Gray Merchant of Asphodel = infinite lifedrain

Gravecrawler + Phyrexian Altar = infinite storm/gravestorm -> Bitter Ordeal. Diregraf Captain is Infinite lifeloss. Also if Rooftop Storm is out you can get infinitely big Grimgrim or Carrion Feeder if you use their sac effect insteal of phyrexian altar

Nim Deathmantle + Ashnod's Altar + Grave Titan = infinite zombies and mana

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Glen Elendra Archmage = counter everything

Deadeye Navigator + Gray Merchant of Asphodel = not infinite but massive damage nonetheless

Or it just goes super wide with hundreds of zombie tokens.

Yes. I have never seen Nekursar do anything besides get hated off the table across 3 different metas.

Why can't you just accept nekusar is an alright commander? Did someone wheel of fortune you with him out or something? Holy shit

best mono color commanders?
>>

Braids. So good she's banned as a commander.

Thassa is one

Because he's the most bland cookie cutter commander and the people who play him are insufferable cunts?

If you enjoy him, then keep playing him. Just stop pretending that anything you're doing with him is unique or interesting.

What you said can literally be said about any other commander if anyone is so inclined to be as butthurt as you are about Nekusar.
>>
>>48203111
I really don't get you man, you must think narset is a fair commander with this kind of thought process

I love Skithiryx (holy shit, I spelled that right). One of my playgroups absolutely hates Infect, but they're also very casual, so despite being the most hated player on the board, I'd still manage to kill one or two of them in a 6 player game. By the time I'm dead, the others have all managed to build up their resources so when I'm gone none of them are sure who is in the strongest position anymore, because they've been allowing each others threats to go unanswered so they could deal with me. It caused so many Cold War esque political games that the deck got nicknamed Nazi Germany.
>>
>>48203090
Sheoldred FTW
I will always have a mono black with her.
Just protect her and fill your deck with ETB
>>
>>48202351
Haha this guy was playing elves and had a bunch of "everyone draws two" and "everyone plays two lands" etc effects out. Everyone was kissing his ass, attacking me, I pulled out Sorin and swung at him for 10 flying after a few rounds of that nonsense. Other 2 guys immediately went for my throat. I shut one down but the other got through. Fuck all that "feel good" shit.

According to EDHRec, the 5 most used commanders in order for each color are:

>Kemba, Kha Regent
>Nahiri, the Lithomancer
>Avacyn, Angel of Hope
>Darien, King of Kjeldor
>Eight-and-a-Half-Tails

>Talrand, Sky-Summoner
>Azami, Lady of Scrolls
>Thassa, God of the Sea
>Memnarch
>Braids, Conjurer Adept

>Ghoulcaller Gisa
>Erebos, God of the Dead
>Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief
>Shelodred, Whispering One
>Marrow-Gnawer

>Krenko, Mob Boss
>Daretti, Scrap Savant
>Purphoros, God of the Forge
>Feldon of the Third Path
>Zada, Hedron Grinder

>Omnath, Locus of Mana
>Ezuri, Renegade Leader
>Titania, Protector of Argoth
>Azusa, Lost but Seeking
>Tisan, the Wanderer Bard
>>
>>48203450
Cold war esque games are literally my favorite type of game. They're hilarious. Semi related, the other day I staved off attackers for a fuckton of turns just by playing and not cracking a pernicious deed and just saying "as long as no one gives me a reason to crack it, it can stick around."
>>
>>48203695
I've done that by announcing the Cyclonic Rift in my hand. Nobody wants to lose their entire board I guess.

If you buy the teferi and grixis precon, and a silumgar you can make one of the most fun blue black decks ive played on the cheap.
>>
>>48197206
Painlands are like the third best dual lands in the format. Why would you care about trash like tangolands and the soi ones?
>>
>>48203971

Having another set of duals like the NuZen lands across all 10 combos would be really fucking nice for people who can't afford to mortgage their house for ABU duals. You can't fetch for a Painland.
>>
>>48204058
Play 2 colour or just don't play blue. ABU duals for Mardu or Naya are not backbreakingly expensive if you're already stumping up for fetches.
>>
>>48203971
The BfZ lands are great in 2-color decks if nothing else.
>>
>>48204218

I only have fetches that I got for cheap during Tarkir. A KtK Delta is less than $20.

Meanwhile, a revised Plateau is $65+, Savannah $85+, Scrubland is $75+, and Badlands is $80+.

BFZ lands are all sub $3, but we only have Allied.

How exactly are fetches remotely similar in price to ABU duals?
>>
>>48201710
I love this card to death and everything similar. I've been thinking of making my competitive combo Sedris into a zombies&wizards, just for the sheer amount of cool zombies and wizards there is.
>>
I thought EDH would be right up my alley and bought two preconditions - Mirror Mastery and Devour For Power back in the day. Gave one to a friend. We played one or two games where I destroyed him with Riku because I copied spells multiple times which was of course not how this ability works (I didn't know that). He never wanted to play again lol.

Then I went to a Club and played multiplayer commander. Boy that was a three hours shit show. Really tough decks and I basically couldn't do anything. One was especially bad, it had memory jar and some endless artifact combo. Basically after that night I myself lost interest in EDH. Too much going on, very convoluted, not my type of game.
I think 1v1 EDH is fun though. Too bad I have nobody irl to play with me.
>>
>>48205304

1v1 EDH is pretty shit once you reach a certain level of knowledge of the format.

It looks to me like you ran into a shitty combo/control meta. Commander is really shitty and easy to break if nobody is trying to have fun. Try another group.
>>
>>48199637
>not optimized

You're so fucking lucky.
>>
>>48191975
Rakdos is the most fun commander in casual metas, IMO.
>>
>>48204597
Scalding Tarn is $100. But yeah, if you only have KTK fetches they may seem pricey.
>>
>>48205551
Also in Britbong land I can get any non-blue dual, other than Bayou, for £25 if it's it's clearly scuffed or dinged. Most KTK fetches are already back up to £15 or so.

Whats the best commander for vampire tribal /tg/?

I did alright with the new Olivia. She's cheap, gives haste, makes them bigger, and makes non vampires into vampires.

sounds good, might build her after she rotates out. I was tempted to try anowon or old drana for a more control variant
>>
>>48205951

She's only like $5 right now if price is a concern. If you go mono black, I would suggest OG Drana for the same of versatility. She flies, has build in removal, and makes herself bigger in the process while costing the same as Anowon.

Opinions on this, please? I feel like I should have more enchantments and some more lands, but I don't really know what to swap.
>>

Fug meant to reply to
>>
>go to FNM for draft
>not enough people for draft because everyone is playing standard
>know nothing about standard and never played a constructed tournament before, but ask around if someone wants to lend a spare deck
>chill stranger lends me BG aristocrats, gives some sideboarding tips
>as I play the deck speaks to me on an instinctual level, feel the right plays coming to me without thinking
>end up going 3-1 and have multiple opponents complimenting me and how well I pilot the deck
>haven't fallen in love with a deck like that in ages
>would build it myself if rotation wasn't so annoying
So what's the best commander to emulate BG sacrifice in EDH? In terms of having a lot of cheap value creatures, tapping them for mana with crypto rites, having sacrifice payoffs and blood artists, and sac outlets that can get scary like Nantuko bro? I'm thinking Mazirek or Savra, but Tasigur is also a legend I've always wanted to build. Is there good stuff in blue to go along with a strategy like that?
>>
>>48205884
OG Olivia is always a good card.

Meren does very well in that kind of deck. Token generators like Avenger of Zendikar, Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos, and sac outlets like Ashnod's Altar and Attrition are great. Dawn of the Dead and Sheoldred are also excellent.
>>
>>48206193

*goodstuff
>>
>>48206228
She is, but I'd rather play sassy Tassy than her. Also a friend of mine already has a Savra deck and I'm hipster like that. But it's not Sultai that interests me as much as it's Tasigur himself. I'm just looking for blue cards to fit in with sacrifice shenanigans.
>>
>>48206248
Also Fleshbag Marauder et al
>>
>>48198266

Some of the better tap lands to be sure. I run mostly dual-colored decks, so I try to run one in each of them. Don't use them in my 3-color decks though.
>>
>>48206193
Go with Mazirek or Sek'kuar.
>>
>>48206180
>>48206189

Why not borrow the card from the standard deck? You won't be playing them at the same time, right?
>>
>>48197213
This, but I will say gitrog got a dumpster worth of fairly decent cards out of em. My frog is a happy frog.

I turned it into an equipment and auras voltron, its easier to reanimate the little ones if Alesha's raw beef is cause for concern.

EDH is an art form. We all have one of the shittiest legends around, and somehow we're all going to have wildly different decks.
>>
>>48207123
You can't double his tokens, he makes legendary tokens.
>>
>>48207177
You can indeed double his tokens, they just happen to die when you do.

And that's the plan.
