Eh, it depends on how they're handled. If they end up being a major NPC it's a very good idea to work together with the old player to properly characterize them, but if they just show up as a cameo and are portrayed decently accurately I don't see a problem.

I just had a game a few weeks ago, and one of the guys I was playing with just would not shut up. Everything constantly had to be about him and his character, or he constantly had to have input about everything. His character was also agonizingly cringey. He was a half-beastman half-human, with the advantages of both and disadvantages of neither, but both sides hated him and discriminated against him. So he was going to conquer the beastmen and force them to acknowledge him. That's it, that's literally his entire motivation.
To make matters worse, he also spoke annoyingly loudly and with this disjointed cadence that made me wonder if he just avoided human contact outside of gaming and had started forgetting how to speak. I only play with friends and friends-of-friends so I don't encounter the crazy, anti-social types. If someone like that ended up in my game they wouldn't get invited back or, if they acted really terrible, we'd boot them out during the session. Just be more picky with who you spend your free time with.
I'm from Canada for context for the next part, and I'm going off the types of women I've played with. I would say 40% of my past and current players have been chicks, usually they will be girlfriends that play together and it has been pretty rare in my experience to see a solo woman in a group of men. The majority are book nerds who entered the RPG hobby through boyfriends. This lines up with my personal experience of my girlfriends wondering what the heck I do every Saturday night, eventually sitting in on a session, and possibly joining.
I'd say on average they're more interested in the roleplaying side of the house than the numbers side, but my formative playing years involved a number of drama and improv geeks in high school so there's a bias to that. I've oddly enough never had a female GM. I've had women I've played with hit on me, but only when I GM not when I play.
There's also this one chick who started with GURPS and bucks everything listed above.
