Every intelligent species gets a fair chance. To overcome the perils of their home planet, solve their internal struggles, and then go to the stars with the resources left to them on their home world.

Matter is funny that way. Main sequence stars wink out and leave behind certain concentrations of atoms, big atoms. Atoms so big that the death of a star is the only force capable of producing them in quantities.

Many of these heavy atoms are essential for science and technology to develop, sturdy matter and essential reactants for harnessing the power of the universe. Unstable isotopes to discover the inner workings of matter by breaking it into pieces. All these are vital for any intelligent species to break orbit in numbers and survive in their new home.

But eons ago when mankind was young and could hardly paint or even speak they came. They didn't much care about the two legged mammals roaming the surface. They cared only for that one element, the precious heavy stable one that accretes at the liquid cores of so shaped planets. The one that is the key to understanding the fabric of reality. The one without which no culture can ever hope to step onto distant worlds. The one without which a species is doomed to travel through the void in fragile and slow extensions of their habitat with no hope of returning in their lifetime.

They took it and they left. Our ancestors understood their presence no more than they understood earthquakes and solar eclipses.

Millennia later mankind ventures out in our spacetime prison to discover all the systems in reach of our sublight generation ships. Like an infection we spread from world to world, taking centuries each time to create the ability to start anew and send another generation of explorers into the void. Until eventually the stable heavy element is discovered in a system at the very beginning of colonization.

That's when they arrive to take it again. We know now what the element is, and what it can probably do eventually, if we research it. And we remember them, if just on a cultural subconscious level, the best clues buried in the cryptic messages of ancient relics.

So gather all pilots, soldiers, geologists, engineers, archaeologists, and paleontologists of mankind. Your species needs you. This race will only last a few decades, and it will decide the fate of man.

Nu/tg/ everybody! setting up something you take pride in here is like throwing pearls before the swine (read: fucking pointless).

And every doubt I had about OP being a pretentious cunt just went out of the window.

You failed to captivate an audience with your uninspired setting and your shitty purple prose, and when people showed no interest you acted like you're the second coming of fucking shakespeare and everyone else is an illiterate monkey. Whoa geez, that is definitely going to make me change your mind about your shitty thread and now I'll gladly participate in... what is this about exactly? Is this a worldbuilding thread? Do you want to have a quest or something? Is this just a very convoluted way to get people to post badly-drawn dolphin porn?

Take your head out of your asshole and maybe we can have a fun thread together. Until then, we'll just sit back and call you a faggot.

...googling 'badly drawn dolphin porn' returns an incredibly bizarre collection of results, man. I'm not sure if I should thank you or regret reading your post.

Thanks for explaining that common expression. Clearly us philistines couldn't appreciate it just like we failed to appreciate your thread.

Some tips for the future? Don't make 10 short posts and maybe end the post with something along the lines of 'what would you do with this idea' or 'what system would fit this type of game?' Otherwise you're just doing a creative writing exercise in a Vietnamese shadowpuppet forum and getting mad when it doesn't earn you a verbal blowjob.

Likewise. Posts 1-5 were fine, Then you wasted too much fucking time.

You had our interest, then you squandered it to play up the "LOL EPIC STRUGGLE" angle.

Your 6th post should have been in the line of:

"We know it by its absence, and in time we found it: Our second chance.

We know nothing of them but legends and relics, nor do we know much at all about the quintessential element, but we know one thing for certain: they will find it far more difficult to swindle us of our future this time"

*Insert Quest/PDF/Game/Playtest here*

But ya already squandered all your goodwill with the whole "/tg/ hates good things" bullshit. You might not be old enough to remember that /tg/ gets shit done; we also take no shit.

Try again in a week after cutting all the crap from the thread: You only needed 3 posts: Intro, Scenario, rules.

Anything else is masturbation.

Well adjusted not-wannabe writer, non-armchair game designer/critic here.

Seems like a neat idea. Where do you want to go with it? The prose does seem overwrought a bit, but I can tell you are excited about the idea.

Just don't listen to anyone here about it, including me. You'd have an easier time talking to RPG.net regulars about the merits of responsible gun use than taking any interesting idea and exploring it here.

That could all have been put into two posts and it would have looked less like a drunk text message by a sheltered first year collage student just discovering Ancient Aliens on the history channel.

As it is you spread out an idea that had little enough substance to begin with over 8 posts. it could have been deviled in a snappy and concise manner that would easily open ideas of the ethical ramifications of strip mining planets for rare resources that already had life on in a variety of variables.

As it is its shit. Your delivery is shit and broken, our prose is shit and worthy of John Norman and your idea is just Ancient Aliens + Avatar with a hint of Mass Effect inexpertly mixed together in the most hackish of ways.

Truly today OP was a faggot. And not a cool faggot like Sir Ian McKellen, oh no, like a reprehensible and detestable faggot like Cyril Smith.
