IDK but I'm getting resin beakies for the running poses and backpacks even though it's probably the same cost or cheaper to just get the new plastic 40k Space Marine squads and then selling off the filthy MKVII.

>>47822803
The point is not the WB in a beakie, though, it's that it's literally 50 years before the Heresy and they have full-blown MKVI, which is inconsistent with other fluff.

Either way there are three justifications for IW in beakies:

1: Prototype armour handed out for testing purposes.

Perturabo wanted MKVI to fail because it was less durable - presumably proven by field tests. Some surviving examples would be fully feasible, possibly handed out to less promising recruits who weren't deserving of the generalist MKIV.

2: Salvage from dead Raven Guard at Istvaan V.

Self-explanatory. The Iron Warriors hammered into the Raven Guard backline and were presumably able to recover a great deal of munitions and equipment from their dead after the battle. Power armour is power armour, after all. It could also be stolen from loyalist stockpiles or intercepted shipments.

3: Produced during the traitor occupation of Mars.

Late-Heresy only but it was mentioned that the Dark Mechanicum produced MKVI for the Traitor Legions before and during the Siege of Terra. This is supposed to explain why the 40k Chaos Space Marines mostly come with MKVI legs.

On top of that, even if they disliked the MKVI for being less durable, it did have the improved sensors which makes a lot of sense for specialist teams and heavy support. Iron Warriors have preferences, but ultimately they're pragmatic enough to make the best of what they have.

>>47822813
On the table it's kind of a toss-up. If you look at them from behind they're fairly similar, from the front not so much. Really though, swap out the helmets and shoulders and most things can blend together when a bird's eye view is applied.

Posted a couple threads ago (or maybe last thread) about my blackshield chymeriae (+1 S/T) and thought that I might as well post my new list idea.

3x Blackshield Reaver Lord: 840 Points
>Artificer Armour
>Bike
>Iron Halo
>Cyber Familiar
>Master-Crafted Power Fist
>Lightning Claw
>Digital Lasers
>Rad Grenades

3x 10 Marauders: 765
>Power Fist
>2 Power Axes
>7 Heavy Chainswords

10 Outriders: 330 Points
>3 Power Axes
>Power Fist

2x 6 Outriders: 510 Points
>Meltabombs
>3 Power Axes

2445/2500 Points

Not a competitive list, simply wanted to make the biggest death star I could. Not sure what to do with the remaining points but by dropping rad grenades on two reaver lords I could get another 20 points. Main idea is that the death star kills the biggest things on the table, bikes kill vehicles and run interference, marauders capture objectives and charge things with their high number of S 6 attacks.

The bike death star should kill anything short of a primarch death star in a single turn (and even that is unlikely to survive long) with 13 Str 5 hammer of wrath hits, 18 str 5 I 3 attacks, 9 str 6 AP 2 attacks at I 1, and a whopping 24 str 10 AP 2 attacks at I 1. Rad grenades mean that even the hammer of wrath and regular attacks are still wounding marines on a 2+ and most primarchs on a 4+. The fact that they are T6 means even initiative AP 2 is going to have difficulty bringing them down and the reavers with a 3++ each will probably all live to punch shit to death.

For Guilliman's Armour of Reason it says that the first failed save of any phase may be rerolled.

My group has no Ultras players but in theory we would play it so the controlling player rolled their saves on at a time until one failed, then reroll that failed save. If the rerolled save was successful they would continue to roll them one at a time and continue to reroll until they actually failed.

My group likes Primarchs to be powerful as they should but I could easily see the argument for Guilliman only getting one reroll period per phase. I was wondering how you -the fine denizens of /HHG/- would play this rule.

its solid.

they are S9 instead of S10 though because of the modifier applying after the 2x, not that it makes much of a difference.
>>
>>47823100
>>47823200
I could see Vets retaining their old MKII armours ("If it ain't broken don't fix it") and MKIV going to the newbies, but then again, MKIV exists because MkII was too worn down and its repairs consumed too much time.
>>
>>47823284
Rad grenades make them effective strength 10 either way. Also where is it stated that that modifier is applied after weapons?
>>
>>47823321
also mkII was artificer made, not mass produced
>>
>>47823284

the strength bonus from option 1 is a straight addition to the models base stats, as in MEQs go to str 5 T5, anyone with a power fist taking option 1 would be str 5 base doubled to str 10 with the fist
>>
>>47823323
>Also where is it stated that that modifier is applied after weapons?
40k rulebook. it says modifiers are applied after weapon buffs. thats why furious charge powerfists are only s9.

its where the whole s10 vs s9 thunder wolf cavalry arguments come up because people argue that it isnt a modifier because of the way the unit entry is written.

It was the Great Crusade, anon. Even the marines were mass produced.
As in, even though MkII had microscopic components, it was still made by the thousands in forgeworlds. But it took too much effort, maybe that's what you're saying?

>But it took too much effort, maybe that's what you're saying?

>don't want to build the model without Blade of the Laer because it looks amazing and any conversion will look like shit in comparison

What do, anons? Use the rules for Fireblade regardless and feel like WAAC scum? Use the rules for Blade of the Laer and cry myself to sleep whenever I face AdMech?
>>
>>47823100
Dubs for truth?

There'd probably be some bitter veterans set in their ways who would refuse to ditch their MKII or MKIII - or simply not have access to it due being deployed at the ass end of the galaxy.

Likewise, while MKIV was being shipped out the fresh recruits would probably be clad in it, but as soon as infrastructure went to shit they'd go back to whatever could be locally produced, ie MKII/MKV.

MKIII has limitations, it is good in close quarters firefights and confined areas being essentially ghetto terminator armour, but outside of that it would be relatively uncommon. I'd imagine it to be more common with units starved of access to terminators, and less common with units closer to or favoured by the primarch.

MKV would be more common in units without any real logistical support, this could be any number of Iron Warriors enclaves or units mangled in the war.

MKVI is the most controversial but consider this: approximately 75,000 Raven Guard were killed at Istvaan V, large portions of which were equipped with MKVI. That means potentially thousands of MKVI armours could find their way into traitor ranks, including Iron Warriors, on top of whatever other prototypes and samples were floating around.

I just think beakies are cool, and Forge World providing some justification for me using it makes me feel good inside.

Of course I enjoy other stuff as well, but when it comes to just capturing the chaotic feel of 40k, I always go with Blance. Wayne England also made nice stuff.

Modern 40k art is just the miniatures in approved builds and colour schemes standing around and photoshop filters applied. There's really nothing else to it. It feels like a commercial for the stuff than visions of a nightmarish future (if you don't count the corporate hell that is GW).

it's fine for an RPG cutscene or the front of a box set

but a personal touch can evoke in a way that an impersonal touch can't. it's good for crunch, people want to see diagrams and comparison shots and get a grip on what it SHOULD look like, but for fluff you want to convey the FEEL of 40k.

That SOB above isn't just a still of a figurine or a screenshot from a game, she's got this tired sadness in her eyes and she's standing over the exploded corpse of something that just cooked so hot it popped

Doesn't strike me that way. I look at him and inferr that he's a particularly swaggy Admech (that's the swaggyest way to use an axe: as a cane) and then the details tell me that he's a biologis.
But trying to agree on subjective matters is kind of pointless, right? Heh, if you see him as Mr. Freeze then honestly good for you :)

What are legion chefs like? Pic related?
>>
>>47828558
Legions themselves probably don't eat fancy, except Emperor's Children and Space Wolves. Ship's crew probably doesn't either, since grimdark. Remembrancers and other civilians, on the other hand, probably eat, if not fancy food, at least normal quality stuff. Chefs are probably still servitors.
>>
>>47828825
The thought of Legionnaires cooking is pretty funny though.

I think Ahriman had wineyards? And they ate bread with honey.
>>
>>47828825
30k isn't as grimdark as 40k. It's actually a lot more bright as a whole. I'll bet it depends on what legion you're serving with on how grimdark your experience is.

Can you take blackshields as allies for blackshields? Even if you take a different option (orphans, chymeriae, outlanders, etc), they still have the Legiones Astartes (Blackshields) rule. It's not like Blood Angels can take Blood Angels allies. And their rules don't say anything about being able to ally with themselves., at least as far as I can see.

White was the colour of the AdMech back in the Rogue Trader days. The red thing came later.
If memory serves, the current fluff says red is the AdMech's "war" colour, and white is used by the more civilian branches. Our that might just be bullshit and GW hasn't actually addressed it.

The Ciaphas Cain books poke fun at the confusion from time to time.

My Death Guard follow strict rules:
MKII for everyone, except:
MKIII for breachers
MKIV for anyone who handles phosphex (Siege Master, Destroyers, Rapier/Medusa Crew pretty much)
(in theory, there would be other rules to account for things like Recon or whatever, but as I don't have any I haven't bothered to clarify yet)

DG were grandpas, they liked old, proven-trustworthy stuff over new-fangled armor or other tech. They upscaled only due to features of new armor for the conditions, such as MKIII having better frontal armor under conditions where the lowered mobility didn't matter, and the better design of MKIV for routinely phosphex-exposed units (MKII/MKIII had a billion joints because it was basically a thousand interlocking bands, instead of MKIV's design of a dozen slabs of curved plate with adjustable conduit-joins. Also each segment of MKIV was isolated, while MKII/MKIII exposed the whole body if a single puncture occurred.)

So basically the same idea; MKII for line troops, specialist suits for specialists.

It helps that MKII is the classical Death Guard "style", and that it lines up with Forge World's modelling for the most part.

>DG were grandpas
DG were a lot of new recruits given their huge casualty ratio, the only grandpas were the terrans. They did love displaying the damage on their armour, however. "Already survived this, got anything else?".
>Also each segment of MKIV was isolated, while MKII/MKIII exposed the whole body if a single puncture occurred
Sauce? I want moar of it.
>MKII for line troops, specialist suits for specialists.
MkIV was conceived as The Line troops' armour, and only because most MkII suits were too worn out. What I've seen the DG wear the most was MkIII due to them almost always doing war in zones mortalis or some other death zones. Because MkIII is the classical DG style, not MkII.

chess pattern seems really tough to do. and my painting skills are...acceptable. like borderline THIN YOUR PAINTS. but I'll admit they do look sexy as fuck.

Well it helps that Mk IV is the standard for Destroyers

Though I'd really like to see what a Breacher helmet (>>47822803) looks like on non-breachers, I love that uncompromising blank slab of metal look

The novels suggest before
There were astrological signs so 12 of them are aligned with the horoscope
Aquarius the water bringer - fulgrim means just that
Sagittarius - Horus given that ring
Leo the Lion
Taurus the bull - Gorgon is a steel bull
Gemini - the twins
The other 8 priamarchs are associated with the heavenly bodies Mercury etc

Who's hyped? Will you buy it?

I'm looking forward to more Night Lord action.

It's apparently Mediocre. I'd wait for the usual supplier, but he's vanished into the aether.

Yeah. Is The hunt for Vulkan out yet? I can't find a single torrent for it.

>>47834396
Do you know if BL has a way to see who uploaded a file? Because I've got it but I'm nervous.

Fuck no. I want to hit Erebus like Air New Zealand Flight 901.

What have Sheep Fuckers got to do with Erebus?

I assume not because others have uploaded for years and not been caught.

If we worried about that, then we wouldn't have the ton of HH Hardback Scans we have.

Someone shared Path of Heaven on here when it came out. So no. Hopefully someone will share Angels of Caliban when it comes out in a few hours.

Anyone read the Sigvald book?

Is it good?

Share it man

That rule seems absolutely crystal clear to me - one reroll only. I can't see how on earth you get to the idea of rerolling until you fail a reroll.

In a similar vein to that guilliman armour question, if you have multiple dudes in a squad with master-crafted weapons, (RG dark furies for example,) do you roll each model's attacks individually, or can you roll to hit for the whole squad of say 5 dudes at once and then reroll up to 5 failed rolls?

How do you do a chipped effect on white armour? Here are some world eaters I'm working through.

I like it when there's different styles and ideas put into the art. I had to go and buy the old Collected Visions book the moment I learned the Visions of Heresy changed the fluff and art. I want that shitty old art, because there's always fun ideas to pick up and put into your armies.
>>
>>47835493
Select an armor edge or flat surface on something like pauldrons or greaves, then hit it in a streaking motion with dark silver (leadbelcher), do it again with light silver (runefang steel), and if you chose a flat surface instead of starting on an armor adge, add a teeny dab of black (Abaddon black) in the center of the silvers.
>>
>>47834836
what's wrong man
>>
>>47835636
All the old art is still in Visions of Heresy. It's now just placed around text that relates to it rather than haphazardly strewn throughout the book.

>Read by John Banks
As in, both the Lgion, Curze, all the marines and everyone has the same voice, like what happened in Fear to Thread when Sanguinius and Horus had the same voice as the female captain and the aliens?
Because that was dumb

Why is the contemptor-mortis cheaper than a normal contemptor with identical (i.e. double gun) loadout? What am I missing?
>>
>>47835520
And white used to represent the purity of the machine, and logic.
>>
>>47836627
The only possible thing I can think of is because the regular Contemptor has more options to upgrade...but you'd think the cost of those upgrades should just be the cost to upgrade them.

thanks! symmetry is kinda my biggest turn-on when it comes to army building, and I'm glad it worked out for this 2000-2500 pt list.
