I've played more fighters with more personalities and with more variety to date than any other class.
If you think fighters are self-inserts clearly there's some projection there, because most inserts seem to be tailored to a person's ideal self. I know a guy that plays almost exclusively lawful stupid wizards and sorcerors and another that will not stop playing drunken dwarf types.
Personally my only insert was a human male rogue, which in fairness is 2/3, but nonetheless outside your criteria
