Hey. I'm going to be DMing a 5e campaign starting today, any tips? I've only been DM for 3.5 before, but I've played 4e and 5e for a couple of sessions each.

Just anything I should take into consideration since it's my first time running a 5e campaign.
I already have a story built, and it's set up in a way to keep everyone engaged without being too strict in what they can do, and I'm finishing touches on the necessary resources now (because it's an escort quest with an NPC that keeps changing form every time it dies, I need interchangeable character sheet info).

If you make a story, the PCs can't. This is good if they're a bunch of twats who are really into themselves, because you can railroad their ass to make them behave like normal people for half a session before they quit in a puff of pouting Facebook posts. But it's a huge disservice to the decent people who have put any thought into a character beyond plusses and minuses.

They're going into it knowing the basics and building characters for the sake of playing through the story, but I've also informed them that they're going to be able to guide the story any way they reasonably want to. I don't do strict stories, I build a world with a plot for them to get immersed in and freeform DM from there.

During summer is when schools are out, ego underaged kids have the free time needed to troll around on 4chan and talk about things they don't understand/start shit/generally be idiot kids.
Having said that, I mostly agree with you. The martial/caster gap in 5E is still there, but it has shrunk down to fare more manageable levels, and more importantly martials still have more than enough to do in games.
