I think these threads are a bit redundant at this point because new stories are so rare.
You basically just post the same ones over and over again, and people have already read them all so they don't bother looking.

I do. In fact, I'm currently working on adapting it for Shadowrun.
There aren't really 'rules', though, it's more like a framework of statistics and a range of macros to carry out prewritten interactions between them.
You'd never need to look at a document to see how the game works, for example, you just sort of press the macro buttons and everything is done for you.
I can share the system, but I wouldn't be able to do so in the form of written rules.
>>
>>47756624
If you can post em in one format or another, go ahead.

Also
>prewritten
What do you mean by this? Who wrote the marcros in the first place?
>>
>>47756676
>Who wrote the marcros in the first place?
Oh, I did. I just meant that they're not really accessible or dynamic in any way, and that the coding is never something players need to concern themselves with.

Anyway, the entire system basically functions on variations of this macro:
/em | @{selected|character_name} attacks @{target|character_name} for [[1d[[(@{Weapons|Assault Rifle Damage|max}-(@{Weapons|Assault Rifle Damage|min}-1))]] + (@{Weapons|Assault Rifle Damage|min}-1)]] damage with their @{Weapons|Assault Rifle Name}. Critical Hit?: [[{1d100}<[[(@{selected|Critical Chance} + @{Weapons|Assault Rifle Critical}) + [[({1d0 + ?{Cover|Half Cover,20|Half Cover Hunkered,40|Full Cover,40|Full Cover Hunkered,80|Flanked,0}}<1) * 50]]) - (@{target|Critical Reduction}]]]] Dodged?: [[{1d100}<@{target|Dodge}]]

/roll {1d100}<[[{floor(@{selected|Aim} + @{selected|Aim|max} + @{Weapons|Assault Rifle Aim} + @{Weapons|Assault Rifle Aim|max}) - (@{target|Defense} + ?{Cover|Half Cover,20|Half Cover Hunkered,40|Full Cover,40|Full Cover Hunkered,80|Flanked,0} + ((abs(?{Range|5} - @{Weapons|Assault Rifle Range|min}) + abs(@{Weapons|Assault Rifle Range|max} - ?{Range}) - (@{Weapons|Assault Rifle Range|max} - @{Weapons|Assault Rifle Range|min})) / 2) * @{Weapons|Assault Rifle Range Penalty}), 0}kh1]]

Clicking the button that triggers that macro is the equivalent of clicking the 'Fire' button in XCOM 2.
I can break the macro down bit-by-bit, but I'm already derailing your thread somewhat and that might take a while. Come talk to me on Discord if you like, though. #9174.

>>
>>47756796
>And the other mechanics are just lifted 1 for 1 from the game, right?
Mhm. It can take some fiddling to get everything working, though. Every soldier and enemy unit needs all of the XCOM statistics in their character sheet - Aim, Will, Defense, Dodge, etc.

The Shadowrun adaptation I'm working on now is a bit more complex, where instead of using statistics like Aim, it uses GURPS-style attributes and does various mathematical things to derive stats like Aim from them.

The problem with Shadowrun is that it's a great setting inextricably intertwined with a shit system. Actions happen on three layers (physical, tech, mystical) which can only interact with each other in certain ways. Most actions require fistfuls of dice and a decent amount of math. It's like turbo-GURPS.

... I don't get the problem.
I really really like Shadowrun's system, especially the dice pools. It reminds me of World Of Darkness, but not as rules lite.
As for the three layers, nobody ever uses the Astral stuff, and hacking has a whole bunch of interaction with the main world.

Rude.

Also, for those of you asking about macros, you're really better off contacting me on Discord or something. I don't want to flood the thread with tons of different macros and already feel a bit guilty for all the off-topic attention I'm getting.
Suffice it to say that if you go to the Text Mechanic website and use the Find and Replace tool to replace all instances of 'Assault Rifle' with 'Pistol', that Assault Rifle macro will work as a Pistol macro as well. It pulls relevant weapon statistics directly from a database-esque character sheet called 'Weapons', so provided you have all the weapon's stats noted down in that character sheet and the macro is referring to the correct weapon name, it will work with literally anything.
If you want a macro for something like the Grenade Launcher or a Sectoid's Mindspin ability, I can give you those things on Discord.
I'm drowning in adds. Send help.

Nice. Which version of XCOM is this? Enemy Unknown, right? Did you include MECTs? I already have an idea for a pencil-pusher who was in the base during an alien attack, tried to defend his friends, and got his arm blown off for his trouble. Then got his other arm and his leg blown off by a grenade. MEC trooper now, looking for revenge for his friend/for his limbs, determined not to let anyone else die, etc. Interesting?

aww. I don't think I'll ever get that sort of RP in my party.

The only "romantic" thing that ever happened in the past 12 years with my group is one half orc barbarian who got an orc girl from some orc tribe, took her along to a bunch of adventures and banged her in the bushes every now and then, Korgoth style. At some point he kinda forgot to mention her for a bunch of sessions, and when he finally started the "I bang my girlfriend" thing again the DM simply said that he left her at this or that village weeks ago and being the retarded barbarian he is, he didn't even notice. We (including said barb) agreed that it was probably for the best because that "story arc" didn't lead anywhere anyway.

>Wolves called off by our druid.
>Phew.
>Find some wights and flee like bitches.

>After a couple of months have passed, we go off to defend some keep.
>While there, I notice that there's a lot of horses and shit.
>I decide to pick up horse shit and throw it at the attackers because I'm an idiot.
>The dwarf does some shit that makes the enemy commander glowy, he's almost dead.
>I am in range to throw shit.
>Do so.
>The enemy commander is driven off and I am kind of an dick.
>I am knocked unconscious in the attack.

>Later that night, there's a magical attack by the enemy witch.
>being awake and watching one of my comrades being mind-controlled, Anhaga slaps the shit out of them.
>They don't wake up.
>I am rendered unconscious

>Later, we infiltrate the enemy camp to kill the other commander.
>Due to shit rolls, I attack the table instead and fall unconscious.

>We are then sent off to find any survivors in a neighbouring town.
>before we find one, we are attacked by a big-ass white wolf.
>Being a bitch, I use my action to run away, thus dodging the icy attack it unleashed.
>I then get a great idea.
>Anhaga fucking jumps on the beast and lodges his sword in it.
>He's hanging on for dear life, and we kill the beast.
>Then Anhaga does some fucking retarded shit where he hits some wights and then ducks under a table to keep sneak attacking.

I understand that some people think the Drake story is really overrated, but you're talking to someone who was referencing an entirely different story. The ghost one. So everyone's probably a bit confused that you're comparing it to Edgardo.
>>
>>47786639

>We then return to the formerly besieged castle to kill the flesh golem in the basement.
>Anhaga has a reuptation for basically being Scooby-Doo at this point, terrified of everything but seemingly going into frothing berserker rages when he needs to kill shit.
>A ghost possesses one of the party members and Anhaga fucking tackles him to get the ghost out.
>He then hugs them and bawls like a baby.
>One of our other party members is aged about twenty years after this.
>Kill more ghosts.
>Discover secret passage to the flesh golem.
>We go to fight, and Anhaga gets a retarded idea.
>Anhaga fucking jumps on this flesh golem.
>Being told IRL that this is fucking retarded, I get off.
>Feel like a bit of a heel.
>Finally kill the flesh golem and find the weird magical artifact that's causing problems.

It's not that it's just overrated, it's that it's following the same pattern of people trying to inflate it into something.

The similarities between not only the story and writing (especially how poor the quality is and how overladen with cliches they are), combined with people trying to spam up some discussion about it, makes the awkward attempts to praise it as obnoxious and cringe-inducing. Edgardo 2.0 is the the nutshell explanation.
>>

Okay, but you're insulting someone praising the Ghost story, not the Drake story.

>How about you stop shitpost spamming about your shit story, and then maybe people won't complain about it.
This is actually Hawk, and having seen you put forth this accusation multiple times, I thought it might be wise to screencap the number of unique posters after I posted in the thread, since I spotted it abnormally quickly after it was created. Pic related.
So I didn't post it, and Drake was offline when it was posted, so I'm afraid your conspiracy theory just isn't true. I actually agree that the story is overrated, both Drake and I have been a little surprised at how often it gets posted. But we don't have anything to do with it, and we're certainly not 'shilling' it or anything.
I understand that it's very self-indulgent and odd for me to respond to you directly, but I have some concrete proof that we had nothing to do with this thread, so I might as well post it and debunk your theory before it gets dragged into the next story thread.
I wasn't aware of that thread you linked to, either.
>>
>>47787259
I don't know who you think I am, but apparently some other people have been complaining about you and your little friends, because this is the first time I've complained about this spam at any length.

And please, whether it's you spamming it, a cronie, or someone who's completely unrelated to you, it's still people spamming about a shit story obnoxiously.
You sound like you need your ego deflated a bit, especially considering that you think that your post proves or debunks anything. I don't know what website you're used to, but the only things that matter are each individual post, and the posts here have been some incredibly cringe-inducing faggotry that you should feel some second-hand (or firsthand) shame for.
>>
>>47787396
Well, I've been trying to avoid derailing the thread, but I think that ship has essentially sailed at this point.
I apologize if I've confused you for someone else, but I have seen two other story threads derailed in this exact manner by someone using your exact terminology and levelling your exact complaints at the same exact stories, and never more than one of them in the same thread, so it's an easy mistake to make. I think that if you're allowed to believe everyone posting this story is part of some secret circlejerk cabal, then I'm allowed to believe that was you in those other threads.

But the simple fact is that this is a story thread, and its purpose is for people to post stories they enjoyed reading. If you did not enjoy it, that's absolutely fine. There are probably thousands of other people who feel the same way. But they didn't post about it, because they understand that others have different tastes. And it's not about not hurting other people's feelings or anything, this is 4chan after all.
But if you want to talk about shitposting, what you are doing is the textbook definition of it. Opinions are always going to differ, but that doesn't mean there's a conspiracy to promote things you don't like.
>>
>>47787636
Nice high horse, but let's not play around.
There's ordinary praise, and then there's the kind of shit that follows when people are trying to push something.

Opening post? Fine, a bit too much praise and calling too much attention to that story itself, but still within a certain (almost calculated) limit. A few posts following, with a bit of cringey praise? Still within fair limits.
But, the muh feels praise that continued, up to the point where some idiot tried to create a thread just to discuss this awkward wank of text? That's when you need to be told that you've got to cool your jets, stop embarrassing yourselves, and to stop following the formula of three guys trying to spam some sort of legacy into place.

There's better stories already posted in this thread. Genuinely good ones. Think of them as them as the scientific measure of how much praise a good story is expected to get. When a few idiots try to praise a mediocre one above and beyond that measure, it's not only noticeable, it hints at people trying to take advantage of how easy it is to spam things anonymously on these image boards.

This is an old game played throughout 4chan history, and it's so disingenuous yet so obvious that it's almost insulting.
Don't want to be called out on it? Keep it to believable limits.
>>
>>47787861
>it hints at people trying to take advantage of how easy it is to spam things anonymously on these image boards.
I'm sorry, but you're wrong.
I could show you the Discord logs of all the people who have added me from this thread, and you'd see that all of them originally found the story in completely different places and at completely different times. A good half of them are seeing it for the first time in this thread.
>up to the point where some idiot tried to create a thread just to discuss this awkward wank of text?
Are you talking about the thread you linked earlier? Do you not think that if there were really a conspiratorial group of people posting this story, that group wouldn't have allowed it to die at 0 replies? That runs counter to everything you're suggesting.
>Opening post? Fine, a bit too much praise and calling too much attention to that story itself, but still within a certain (almost calculated) limit.
>(almost calculated)
You are paranoid. And now I'm pretty certain that you are the same person from those other threads. Only he would say something this insane.

Not to mention, you've completely ignored the fact that you were not insulting the people complimenting the Drake story. You were insulting people complimenting a completely unrelated story about a ghost.

Please ask yourself which is more likely:
>there is a shadowy /tg/ illuminati that was established to post a certain story semi-regularly for reasons unknown
>some people have different tastes to you and happen to like and compliment a story that you don't

If you were just saying, "that story's shit to be honest, here's a better one", nobody would care or say a word. But you don't. You just complain and complain until the thread is reduced to people arguing with you, stories stop getting posted, and fun is ruined. That is called shitposting.

Sorry to pester, but as the guy who asked >>47776935, I feel the need to point out you never answered. Are MECTs included, and if not, could you give me the macro codes so I could try writing it in? I've got a little C++, C, and Java experience, it can't be too hard...right?
>>
>>47788129
Oh, sorry.
I didn't include MECs, no. This is hard to explain, but... Things like MECs don't really require macros. All being a MEC would do is change your stats, your abilities and remove your ability to take cover. Stats are inputted manually, so there's no need for any coding there, and abilities generally just alter how your attack works, so all you actually have to write in their macro is a description of the effect.
If you'd like the macro codes for things that do require unique macros, I posted my Discord ID earlier for anyone who wants to try out that system for themselves, so feel free to add me and ask there. You can do it browser-based without making an account, I think, so it shouldn't be much hassle.
>>
>>47788051
Please. You're giving yourself way too much credit.
I know you don't like people calling you out on this shit, or you might just genuinely not believe that some fags are trying to spam to get attention towards the shit story, but your attempt to perform damage control is as cringey as the awful posts of mindless praise.

Here, it's all about push and pull, with some expected resistance and resilience. You push, expect some push back. You act a little like a fag, expect a few complaints. You act a lot like one, and expect more.
Don't want complaints? Don't act like shit is anything aside from that, and don't act like there's any point in defending people trying to push something. This advice isn't just directed towards you, but the other fags that likely are the same crew that tried the same with all the other "praised and spammed shit stories that plague /tg/". It's the same kind of methods and style, and it's likely just a new attempt after they botched the last couple, never learning from their mistakes.

You maybe might have had a point if the only "crime" committed was the awful OP post, but with it continuing in the thread and with someone going so far as to think to make a brand new thread, it's at that point where you really can't argue that these complaints aren't justified.

You're right, in that this discussion is tedious and no one likes reading complaints, but in this case, you don't really seem to get the picture until someone calls you out on it.
>>
>>47788248
Jesus christ.

We at least seem to be in agreement that the thread is being ruined by this and everybody hates it, so bugger it, why don't you add me on Discord as well? I will attentively listen to you complain for as long as you desire, if it means it stays out of these threads. Alternatively, we can actually continue the 'argument' on there without ruining everyone else's fun in the meantime.
>>
>>47788192
I mean, I mostly agree. I just think there's a lot of things that the MEC provides that need to be compensated for - say, Distortion Field, calculating who Body Shield applies to, remembering if an alien's already been dissected for Vital-Point Targeting, reducing the enemy's crit chance with Hardened, and
Collateral Damage might need a macro all its own.
>>
>>47788376
Also, I went ahead and added you on Discord. We can continue the discussion there if you'd prefer?

This story triggers me
>>
Just finished playing the most intense session of a homebrew Gundam game that my roommate runs.

>there's a mechanic that lets us be animu protags
>for every major action we get two extra rolls
>one for how hardcore we are, one for our will to live
>everything gets increasingly silly as we go full muderhobo
>my character is former KGB who gets stronger the more vodka he drinks
>last time, we took out a secret chinese military outpost
>the session starts up and we start our usual dicking about and infighting
>an unknown mech appears, claiming to be a fully self-aware, sentient AI
>we instantly start beating the shit out of it
>through some coordination and lucky rolls, we get it pinned down and start dismantling it
>the GM is getting salty, because he wanted this to be an important thing and we took it out near immediately
>the thing keeps fighting even as we dismember it
>we hack its limbs off and start using them to repair our mechs
>as we continue dicking around, another one shows up
cont.

>this one actually gets a chance to fight back
>infects two of the party's gundams with a virus through the parts they took off the first one
>occasionally takes control of them to friendly fire
>we make some shit rolls and start losing the fight
>the two who got infected with the virus manage to break its control and escape
>me and the other party member start fighting defensively while we wait for the others to get backup
>the other guy leads it into the partially destroyed underground base to limit its mobility
>it follows him, I follow it so we can fight from two fronts
>cave in separates us, I'm trapped with the enemy mech, the other guy is looking for a way back around
>I make some shit rolls, and get dropped to around 10%
>as it goes for the finishing blow, I call my teammate
>in broken english "You go, I stay. Farewell, comrade"
>disable the safeguards on my reactor
>roll decently to grapple, roll high on my hardcore
>GM hands me the dice and says I better roll a nat 20 for my will to live
>I do

And then we end the session.

This is simultaneously touching and distressing for me. I'm torn between my gut instinct to call fake, letting myself enjoy it, or being upset at my loneliness.

I think I'll jettison the self pity, then do both of the other things. It's probably just a story, but I like it. Anyone have anything else like it?

I really liked the story, and it's the first time I'd seen it...it makes me smile a bit to see a happy ending to this kind of thing.

Plus Hawk's commentary and unique system (while I personally have no interest in the genre) are really cool; I'm a major homebrewer myself, and it's nice to see that kind of creativity floating around.

I doubt there's some "let's post this story to bother that one specific anon, c'mon, recruit some cronies" conspiracy going on here.
>>
>>47798400
well, it won't happen for everyone. In my experience being a DM is a remarkably easy way to end up with people you think are out of your league; it's attractive to be confident, and many people who are DMs/GMs are in that position because they love what they're doing and they're confident in their ability to do it.
>>
>>47798764
I can see how that would be an advantage for an otherwise not so confident individual.

I'm well aware it's not gunna be me. I don't DM. In fact, I've never even played - not for lack of options. Just r9k levels of social ineptitude.

I'm the vaguely sad, but otherwise normal seeming guy you see at work/in class. Appear completely functional; able to joke and be pleasant while in those settings, but fall apart elsewhere. I used to get terrible anxiety and have panic attacks about being alone and too socially retarded to remedy that. I'm learning to live with it.

Do you have any more stories like those?
>>
>>47798907
Sorry, I never save 'em. Makes them better to read when I come upon threads like this.

I feel the anxiety and loneliness plenty, and I always wish it seemed like less bullshit to say "grab yourself by the bootstraps and pull" but that's how I did it. haven't had a panic attack or sunk as deep into the spiraling depressions of unworthiness and anguish in years.

I started lifting. D&D got me a girlfriend who was great, and then later got me a hookup with the hottest person I know. It pulled me out of my shell and now I DM for thirteen of my fraternity brothers and feel good about my life.

There's nothing bad that can come from taking a first step toward playing, man. Worst comes to worst, you feel a little silly and go home having a worse day than usual - but that's a risk worth taking. It's a lot easier to worry about what feat you're taking at the next level or how best to describe your character's hair color than it is to worry about what you're going to do with yourself in three years or if being alone will ever become more tolerable.

Other people will never love you unless you love yourself. You can't love yourself until you craft yourself into something worth loving. The best you can do before that point is pretend, and that's when you realize how empty it really is.

Stop pretending, Anon. Find what you like and do it. Be the change you want to see in yourself, and the world will follow.

^ See, that comes off as a load of shit. But that's what I want to say every time I encounter this sentiment. I want to say "Man, I WAS that. I DID that. Nobody else can help you. No amount of reading stories will let you live them out." If you want to live out the stories, make yourself a protagonist worth rooting for. Ja feel?

It just seems so ridiculous when I look back at it after typing it all up at 2:30 am. I wouldn't have listened to that when I was down that far, but here I am expecting other people to give it the time of day. Fuck me, right?

Though at the same time, props to me for hitting the character limit at exactly 2000/2000. I'm a fuckin champ, I guess.

Pic related is my current character. She's almost as bisexual as I am, and a hell of a lot more spunky and optimistic. Kinda gives a new perspective on things.

Gave me a shit eating grin. Glad it worked out for these folks. And I do love these stories.
Also loved the captain drake OP one.

>tfw no TG waifu that blatantly flirts/likes/depends on me but im too stupid to realize it.
>>
>>47798989
I'm glad that you made it, and I appreciate the kind words. I've never had a real problem with myself. I'm normal looking, average intelligence and all that. It's some other mental block preventing me from having the ability to be normal outside places I have to be.

I hear you, I know it's the truth, and I hope that one day what your saying will really slide into place for me - That I'll find my version of that realization. Thank you.

>>47798998
I like it. I'll remember this conversation, maybe my first character will be a tribute to your kindness.
>>
>>47792477
To me it sounded like a story of That Guy, who happens to be able to write very well.

>I'll be a Demigod of War!
>I'll choose.... Knowledge
>Nature for me
>And I'll be DESIRE! Andd to increase my power I'll make everyone want to have SEX

It's still a fun story though and I read it every time it's posted.
>>
>>47799086
on second thought, I'll wait until well after my epiphany, when I've developed sufficient confidence, to tribute this event, that way the attempt will have a lesser chance of being a flop.

I feel kind of the same way. With all the newfriends screaming that everything is fake (it seriously ramped up in the last month for some reason) I find I can't enjoy story times without hearing whispers of "fake" echo in my head. That 10 part cap about the larp for example.

Here, a cap that I never see posted. Hopefully phone transfer didn't bugger it up.

Damn I just finished reading this anons rants.

Seems to be a good exercise in understanding Paranoid Schizophrenia. I mean this seems to be beyond Autism, like serious delusions are going on in this anons mind.

Think about getting some legit medical help anon, please for your own sake.

And he's gonna take your criticism as evidence that the conspiracy is real even though the number of unique posters went up when you posted.
Unwinnable scenario. He's right in that the OP is pretty clearly bumping his thread with new stories right when it gets to page 10 but when the fuck did that become an odd thing for an OP to do?
>>
>>47817903
Actually, I bumped it because I wanted to see more stories before it 404's
>>
>>47817926
That's what I mean nigga. OPs have a vested interest in keeping their threads alive. Almost every OP bumps his own shit because they want to see more stuff on the subject.
