>I want to understand the relationship of Skitarii and Cult Mechanicus with the Mechanicum.
>I tend to think of the AdMech and the Mechanicum as synonims
They're sort of synonyms. When the Imperium was reformed after the Heresy, the Mechanicum was given a seat among the High Lords of Terra and renamed as one of the many Adepta. It didn't really change internally, only in its relationship to the rest of the Imperium.

We're not yet sure how the Skitarii fit into it; I suspect that in 30k they're the Mechanicum's military wing, controlled centrally, whereas the tech-thralls that FW has released are under local control. The Cybernetica was bigger back then, so many the Skitarii were less important or widespread. Secutarii seem to be similar but belong to the titan legions.

The Cult Mechanicus is simply their religion and the units that exist in 40k are probably around in 30k, but are again less important in military matters because there are so many high-quality automata to rely on.

Anyways, that's a pretty nice post detailing the AdMech and Skitarii in 30k. Has FW said if they'll be supporting any of the Xenos armies like Orks or Tyranids? Can't remember if they have said anything or not. He loves his Orks and would love to play them against my Word Bearers.

The mechanicum has the most retarded military organization ever.
>Ordo Reductor
>Skitarii
>Cybernetica
>Myrmidons
>All of them largely independent of each other
It would be like if the US military had the US army, another branch that was like the army but meant for siege warfare, another branch that was really advanced technology and then a bunch of jackass mercenaries wandering around fighting wherever they felt like it. Ad to this shit like tech assassins and it gets even more convoluted. I am fairly certain the admech just doesn't give a fuck.
>You have robots and want to join the Great Crusade? Go ahead and lead your robot hordes into battle.
>You are good at siege warfare and have tons of thallax? Go ahead and help the Iron Warriors with sieges.
>You grafted giant weapons onto your body and want to blow shit up? What the fuck do I care? Have fun.

Well, we do have a branch specifically for amphibious assaults...

But yeah, the Mechanicum is retarded in every way. They have a monopoly on technology but don't believe in science. They're superstitious and ritual-bound even during the time when the rest of the Imperium wasn't. They regularly hurt vassal knight worlds with their policies as if it were a zero-sum game. They're nuts.
>>

>>
>>47730134
Ah yes I also forgot about knights and titans. So they have like five branches plus unpaid mercenaries.

>Well, we do have a branch specifically for amphibious assaults...
The irony is that the last major opposed amphibious landing the US executed was at Inchon and the US army carried out the landing.

> When the Imperium was reformed after the Heresy, the Mechanicum was given a seat among the High Lords of Terra and renamed as one of the many Adepta
Kelbor Hal already had claimed his seat in the Emperor's War council, so even after the heresy that aspect remains pretty much unchanged.
>The Cult Mechanicus is simply their religion
I was asking more about the 40k faction itself, given how they also have Dominii and Kastelans (developed from the same source of the Castellax), but mainly to know wheter or not there were Holy Requisitioners back in 30k.
>>47729919
>>47730134
>>47730233
The Mechanicum's military can be seen as organized in three main branches, all of them interwoven among themselves to some degree due to oaths of loyalty and what have you:
>Regular armies belonging to a Magos or Forgeworld
Skitarii, Taghmata.
>Servants of a Machine God's avatar
Collegia Titanica and Scutarii, Centuria Ordinatus. Knights could fit here...kind of.
>Technosavants and specialists with a great degree of independence
Legio Cybernetica, Ordo Reductor, Auxilia Myrmidon.

By the way, turns out Xana's icon isn't a spess boar, but something more terrifying.

A BEARVERSOR SKULL.

Scoria did claim the patent for the Bearversor creation in threads past after all.

I would only do so if the sculpts were the same. GW has shown time and time again that plastic sculpts are always inferior to the resin equivalents in some way. Betrayal at Calth leg poses and Contemptor are garbage. The Cataphractii are quite good though lack some tiny details much like the plastic Trygon, but it's passable for plastic.

Now I'm just embarrassed. I've got nothing to deliver yet.

I'd like to think the work I've done has played a large part in the creation of a 30k community here. If we didn't have all my scans of every single FW book, we probably wouldn't have this crazy little community now. So I'm to blame for the dubs, chicken dinners, Iron Circle Parties and rampant shitposting in the great voids between book releases.

Interestingly, this is where it all began back in the day. Before we had a 30k community, when it was random threads every so often. Take a look and see how far things have come.

But!

Lorgar doesn't look as charismatic as he should, Angron doesn't look like a blood crazed maniac, and Vulkan doesn't look like Vulkan.

Vulkan is not a sub-saharan African, if that is what you meant by that, you're wrong - they are all genetic ancient Anatolian greeks, Vulkan has a fucked up melanchrome, he's the fire-themed character, like Dark Iron Dwarves.

Fiennes would be perfect for Lorgar as the sympathetic idealistic priestly antagonist, Tom Hardy's performance in Bronson was great and Angron has the epithet 'Red Angel', to do with his extremely pretty face that has been terminally fucked by all his angry warring and gladiatorial combat.

I tend to believe that if you put someone who is passionate about the project behind the wheel and trust in their vision you'll end up with something amazing, like Fury Road, the best thing since Fellatio

A movie could work if you focus it on a small group of well developed characters, have the primarchs show up occasionally as these aloof arrogant angels of death, play on the themes of betrayal, survival in dark times, spend lots of time establishing just how cruel and weird and unique and insane the 30/40k universe is, and have characters that struggle with the fact that they can't always be good people or do good things if they want to survive and by extension help the imperium survive

As far as an anime goes get the guy who made the Wolf Brigade as director and itll probably be great

Plasma or Melta are you only real choices unless your facing hordes. Combi Plasma can threaten vehicles, wreck Mechanicum hard, wreck other terminators or 2+ troops and delete entire squads or marines, just like what is about to happen in this pic of my last game. Termi deep strike and delete a squad, yes you pay for the combi weapons but they give your unit a big extra reach threat wise.
>>
Wait, what exact units can Alpha Legion take with Coils of the Hydra?

Gorgon Termis, Deathshroud?

Gal Vorbak, even?
>>
>>47734878
Yeah, what often goes wrong with movies based on games is that they try to give all 20+ characters substantial screen time and their own plot, and that just doesn't work. And they think random references can substitute for plot or dialogue.

If you need all the primarchs to be in it, it has to be far longer than movie length, either a tv series or an anime.

Cool. Part of the backstory for my AL is that the former leader of the Grand Company was tasked with infiltrating the Imperial Palace and assassinating higher ups. They happened upon Dorn eating his lunch and Dorn predictably tore them apart. My Praetor and his backers managed to be justifiably absent when it came time to chose people for the mission.

The Night Lords terror squads pretty much acted as bubble wrap for Castalax and Mech tanks and the Night Lords fliers kept the Stormeagle from doing anything and eventually cornering it and putting it down.

2 Castalax survived 2 rounds of CC with Horus and his Justarian buddies with some clutch saves.

I didn't go too snowflakey. They're a force sent to explore an area near the Halo and Ghoul Stars lead by Harrowmaster Yuri Kalugin and his equerry Kaumaha Keiki. The force was aided by Imperial Army elements, but was stuck between a rock and a hard place due to a troope of Murder Clowns that had it out for Yuri, and multiple other horrific Xeno races that inhabited the area. This was a process that would drag on till the mid-Heresy where Yuri called his old man up for backup. Unfortunately for Yuri and friends they would be used in an experiment involving traitor IA/SA and a metric ton of sorcery.

The "help" gave off bad vibes, and showed their true colors not too late after that. The metric ton of sorcery had brought out terrifying changes to the IA/SA. Mutation, untrained psykers, daemonic allies. All of this caught the Alpha Legionaries and their allies off guard, but interference only made the battle far more grueling. No Imperial records know what happened, but some quotes believed to be from a rememberancer that was with the ALs mentioned Yuri thought of a way to achieve victory at the cost of obilvion. My picture is basically Yuri's helmet. All it's missing is Alpha Legion colors.

How well does 30k play at 1500 points? Me and my mates like to stick with more medium-sized games. We don't really like too many vehicles on the board and Primarchs are pretty boring to us. Rites of War are really cool though. Does 1500 give us enough to make list-building interesting without going over the top? We all want to use at least one or 2 faction-specific toys and a dread. Any help is appreciated; sorry for the noobiness.

>>
>>47736813
30k has a different scale. In 30k, 2k-2.5k is a medium game. 1500 works but you'll find it stale a lot, having a lot of trouble to fit the units you want especially the expensive cool ones like destroyers or phalanx warders for two examples. You also might find both of you falling back onto tried and true units like vets or terror squads (where the staleness comes from).

1500 is a good starting place. I mean if you and your opponent are both bored by vehicles and Primarchs then surely both your armies can grow to good sizes reflecting that, having large battles of jogging marines in the Age of Darkness (which actually sounds a lot funner than my own meta).

2k with no LOW or Primachs is the best fit for a normal game with a couple of toys and enough breathing room to experiment with the ROWs and interesting builds/units
>>
>>47736813
1500 allows me just barely take my special rite of war and two legion specific units but my list is pretty much just that.

I'd say 2000 points is the sweet spot if your looking for a game that looks like 1500 points in 40k. The larger size on the squads and lack of free points make larger point games seem smaller. I don't even play with a primarch unless the game has reached 3000 points at the very least. At 3000 points you basically have your 2000 point list, the primarch, and his retinue.
>>
>>47736852
Whats a good loadout for dreadclaw units in your experience?

I was gonna stuff 5 Tartaros termins in each one, with a single chainfist, two power axes and two power swords, with an assault cannon and assorted combis depending on the points. Their job is to come down and assault weak backline units and sweep them or by their power combine help take down hard targets with combis.

Whats good in your experience?
>>
>>47736873
>>47736846
I think I see what you're saying. It's probably fairly difficult for a Legion's flavour to pop out at 1500 points in a noticeable way, right?

I just have one more question. How well does a FW non-30k list (like Eldar Corsairs) play against a 30k list?
>>
>>47735897
Chose lambda because it is a letter of the Greek alphabet and Spartans painted it on their shields, so it seemed like a fitting character over task force beta or task for phi.
>>
>>47736900
Depends on your ROW, you get alot of synergy with despoiler or other CC squads because the claw negates the downsides of footslogging or rhinos across the table and getting shot to shit.

So think of it like this, if you don't usually take a unit because it gets rekt by shooting or think its to slow then a dreadclaw solves all your problems as well as being able to burn the rear armor of vehicles with multiple str 6 hits as it zooms around!
>>
>>47735704
I like your background, Alpharius.
>>
>>47736940
Depends on the army. A legion army is inherently at a disadvantage at a lower points cost. Legion is meant for large battles just like the legions of yore themselves. Eldar Corsairs are an especially powerful list I've heard but in my experience playing against DKoK and R&H it can be fine. Then again though, at low point values and without many tanks or Primarchs you could be at your opponents mercy, that is to say you're sort of hoping they don't feel like steam rolling you.
>>
>>47736986
That's a nice way to think about it, thanks. I was hoping BAngels would get assault rhinos to do despoilers but I think a Dreadclaw would work nicely too.
>>

>>47736957

me any my group play exclusivly at around 1850 points or so and thus far there has not really been any problem of fitting legion units in sure it'll only be one or maybe two units and you have to ditch all thoughts about units that cost beyond 2~300 points but it works for me.

but my opponents are chaos and IG so I don't have to deal with wraithspam or necron tomfoolery

MFW I finally realized that the IVth legion was for me. I had been living a lie, trying to make heavy bolters and seige guns fit in a Terror Assault list. I don't know why. I don't even give a shit about volkite or flaying people. BS 5, Pinning HBs most likely won't be game changers but they are the army I've always wanted.

This is my first attempt at a HoO list. The Warsmith is tricky to fit anywhere, so I figured I'd give him a servo-arm and sit him with the big artillery. How do you usually run your Warsmiths?

Any feedback on my list would be appreciated.

Looks good, but why aren't you riding the Ironfire?
>>
>>47741678
A good question. I guess I wanted the extra HS slot for the Tyrants. I guess if I wanted to ride the Iron Fire I could drop them and their ride in exchange for some thudd guns.
>>
>>47739046
It can be done, and has been done already.
Would this be Lorgar? It's said he shaved his head after Monarchia, meaning he didn't started out as a bald guy, did he?

>>
>>47741643

I like it, however here are my recommendations
- Ditch the Rhino on the Havocs, you want em shooting, not driving,
- Ditch the LR on the Tyrants and use the points savings to buy some extra termies and a Siege breaker to go with them
>>
>>47741788

No, Lorgar was always shaven-headed to show off the scriptural tattoos all over his body.

After Monarchia, he started rubbing ash into his skin and self-flagellating.

So you think you can pin, huh? Have fun attempting it in the Ld9 millenium. Still, a few notes, heed them if you want to.

A unit inflicting a billion Pinning wounds still only forces one pinning test, as such, Pinning MSU is better than 10 Iron Havocs with pinning Heavy bolters: Give everyone a Rhino DT and equip it with a Heavy Bolter with Shrapnel Shells, and use it as a gunship. Even your Lascannon squad's Rhino, disembark them and use it separately.
Also, Iron Havocs are meant to kill vehicles, lest their BS5 Tank Hunters be wasted on infantry that will still get their armour saves, get regular HSSquads for that. Furthermore, if your sgt is forced to use his power sword then everything has gone awry. Iron Warriors spend people, not waste them.
Also, are you relying entirely on that Mortis dread to be your sole anti-air? Depending on your local meta you may need moar of it.
And how will you deal with melee units? And hordes?
>>
>>47742542
Not him, but 3 medusae should thin any hordes. Does involve a lot of anon's eggs being in one basket, however.
>>
>>47742542
Ah I see what you mean. I'll have some time to hammer out the details before I get started because I still need to finish my Orks

I wish lootas had pinning

Suddenly the Iron Warriors exit the warp over the peaceful paradise world and begin bombarding it with the life eater virus. The Tallarnian and the other patron scramble for the shelters even as the virus digs its claws deep within, them rotting the flesh from their bones as they struggle in vain to reach safety. With a brilliant flash the methane released by an entire planets rapid decomposition is lit by the merest spark, incinerating anything left of its biosphere. As the few tattered survivors emerge from their shelters to the poisonous arid wasteland that their once beautiful world has become contrails in the sky show that the battle hasn't even begun as the Iron Warriors begin a massed drop pod assault and the deployment of armored battalions.

In the months to come both Imperial and Traitor forces will dispatch reinforcements in unprecedented numbers leading to the largest tank battle in the history of vehicles. The dead will be uncounted and, in truth, uncountable for the Life Eater still rages unchecked across the surface of the ravaged world. In the end and for millenia afterwards Imperial Stratego Savants will be stumped while studying this campaign, echoing the same unanswered question that the Tallarnian did when the alarms first began to sound:

"Why?"

So yeah Yuri's equerry is from Hawaii in space and I was wondering if pic related is Alpha Legion enough to be used as inspiration for Kaumaha's face plate.

'how about some shots for everybody in here'
>>
>>47743437
But Tallarnians don't drink shots, they prefer a locally sourced honeyed wine with an apricot aftertaste.

I'm pregnant. With twins. Looks like I really am carrying Alpharius and Omegon! Oh, I need to get a whole lot of baby stuff now, read up on everything I need to know, ask my mom about everything I need to know, celebrate and hope the mood swings and all those other things don't hit me too hard.

>>47731647
Thank you!

Well, I really do need one now, huh? Shoot that'll be hard to explain. It'd be even harder to explain if she ever ended up pregnant as well.

but they declared holy war on the iron warriors 600 years before the iron warriors attacked.

perturabo did nothing wrong
>>
>>47745166
He did a lot wrong, but inventing the beep-boops make up for it.
Now that I like about it, the League of Campaign characters needs one of the Iron Circle in their ranks.
>>
>>47745442
Are the beep boop boys characters? Can we change their stats like the league of extraordinary characters?
>>
>>47745547
No, but that hasn't stopped us from adding a warlord titan and a grav-mastodon.

>>47746166
Yes.
>>
>>47746169

I suppose the one who went off and joined the league is sort of a Nathaniel Garro type character. M00T was built to replace that one, and being new ostensibly the reason for her/his/it's nervousness.

It works.
