The Magic Heroscape retool.
My Heroscape group doesn't want to play it because "muh heroscape is deeeeeeeeead!", my magic group doesn't want to play it because they'd rather play actual magic.

Any Tabletop rpg.

Its not that my group doesn't want to play, it's just that no one wants to commit, even if its like once or twice a month, they keep saying they have to much going on, which in the case of two of the guys I believe.

It's a special kind of insanity that made Wizards think that people play magic for the art, lore, or characters.

let's be clear: this is actually a great game. The figs look like melted cumsprites, sure, but the actual gameplay is unexpectedly fun. First main rulebook I've ever seen that lays out tons of future material they haven't even published yet, like artifacts.
>>
>>47624457
It is pretty cool, but I haven't played more than the first battle, and we skipped a bunch of the rules. It's kind of big to swallow, but it's also a blast.

And I found out that you pretty much need a plate of transparent plexiglass

Every RPG that's not D&D(Was PF, now 5e), with the VERY infrequent exception of Savage Worlds, SW:EotE, or IKRPG. Attempts have been made at Only War, but disintegrate after like 1 session.

Literally anything I bring to our local game store. I have two dozen board/tabletop/miniatures/deckbuilding games, but when it comes down to it, most everyone would rather just play magic for the one millionth time.
I asked the store owner out of curiousity because I notice his stock doesn't ever really change- he told me that since they've been open, I'm the only person that has purchased anything non magic related, period.
>>
>>47623913
Perhaps, but the last edition I read was impenetrably written once you got past the chirpy and overly optimistic introduction.

I get that game rules need to be written with some technical skill, but this was far denser and much drier than even SFB.
>>
>>47623970
"Attack Vector" IS a cool name, though. Sounds science-y while also promising violence.

The "game" is an incomplete course in rocket science, though. You'll hate playing it and what you learn will STILL get you killed should you ever find yourself in orbit.

It sounds very math-y, and the quickest way to make most people run away from a game is to promise them a lot of math.

Math gives me sweat on my brow, when I read that Pax Romana used percentages when calculating battles, it almost led me to not buy the game.

In practice it works fine, though, and the player aids go a long way to help you figure out stuff. But I'll readily admit that math (beyond addition, subtraction and their ilk) in board games scare me

It's not tabletop, but there is flat out no store within a three hour driving distance that plays Vanguard. It's power creep as hell but it's fun.

Probably better off that no one wants to play though otherwise it would attract undesirables.

They're right, though. It's the better game.
>>

Are they really so fucking jaded they dont want to play a game because it has a cartoony artstyle? oh yea because every fucking cartoon is childish.

now i dont play it because im fucking broke and board games are expensive (lookin at you huge-boxed board games that may or may not have been used to kill someone)
>>
>>47626438
Obviously not.

They take one look at Arcadia Quest and go "Isn't this just a rip-off of SDE but worse? (it is)"

Then I like to think they just don't like it because it's cartoony.
>>
>>47626492
oh yea i forgot they both look quite very fucking similar...theyre both super expensive anyway (probably im not sure) and no one will ever want to play it in my area since to them "board games" means chutes and ladders, cards or monopoly. except maybe my 2 cousins who fucking love munchkin since i showed it to them.

It's weird how much an interest in history and politics can enhance your game experience. Likewise, when I explained to my gf how ancient warfare and politics actually worked, it really made her more interested in games about the time period.

And if you're from Scandinavia, there's just something about Pax Baltica...

NEEEEEERD!

I couldn't really get history because I couldn't wrap my head around remembering dates to compare what was going on at different places at the same time.

You're making some pretty bold and arrogant assumptions right there.
>>

My uncle always used to beat my shit in at Axis as Allies as a kid, learned all sorts of cool shit from him. I saw some friends playing it a few years ago and joined in the next 2 games. I guess they had never heard of operation sealion, or something and they never played it again when I was around.

I kind of had trouble with this as well, but I eventually got around it by learning one date (in my case 1453) really damn well; then, whenever I learned of a historical event I would just place it before, or after. Then when I felt I knew what came before or after, I started adding dates (1066, year 0, and such), and mentally plotted historical periods.

Also, for some reason I can't post without adding a picture, so I'll post some more big historical games
>>

These two points are strongly related. WizKids has a repeatedly earned reputation for breaking games with event prizes.

Which is funny, because the DDAW prizes are very hit and miss.

I love star trek, but let's be honest; Star Trek Attack Wing is just a ham-fisted reskin of X-Wing with cocked scales, low tier models and less life to it.

Wish there was something better but it's just kind of pants.

"Ken Burnside, of Starfleet Battles fame"
Hmm. I wonder if that lifetime ban from SFB events was ever lifted?
>>
>>47626354
I'm surprised they haven't just introduced a mechanic that makes grade 2 sitting a more viable strategy. It would change the balance from flat creep into build rock-paper-scissors, with old G3 strategies scrubbing out to Legion and Stride, which scrub to 2-sitting, which scrubs to old G3.

Then again, making old decks have a niche is probably exactly why they haven't done it.

Dropzone: Bought the reasonably priced phr starter set, spent some time painting it up, bought the reasonably priced rulebook, learned all the rules, told my friends about it, they don;t even look at it and continue buying hundreds of euro of 40K.
Fantasy: One friend. Then AoS happened. Now I'm the only one still buying fantasy minis.
MtG: We were all really into it for a while and then out of the blue everybody else lost interest. Again, I'm the only one still buying cards.
