I am now craving a CYOA involving a healthy farmer's daughter. Thanks a lot, Anon.
>>

That's not newer, that's low-res and glued together.
>>
>>47305616
Do you know what was changed? Yes, I was hoping to avoid reading through them all.
>>
>>47305672
>I was hoping to avoid reading through them all.
This is generally the sign of a CYOA with length and presentation problems.
>>
>>47305768
I generally get too lazy to reread one that Ive already done once just to figure out what changed and what effects itll actually have. Doesnt really matter to me the size of the thing. Thats why I appreciate change logs.
>>
>>47305768
No, it's a sign of the fact that people don't like re-reading shit they've already read before, especially not when they have to do so with a critical eye and not just for fun.
>>
>>47305768
I've already read all the individual ones. I just wanted to know if the 'newer' version was >>47305666 , instead of going through skimming for details myself.

>Fianna
Two new effects.

I never understood how Lilim work, specifically the aging. Does society not notice they barely age? Don't they have to go to school? Aren't their families pretty prominent?
>>
>>47305952
You're a rich kid, you can be home tutored easily and effectively.

Your family is part of a demon 'conspiracy'. They can easily hire people to run public relations with humans, while openly interacting with other demons when those are around.
>>
>>47305920
I not even sure what you're being smug about, unless you're just jobbing to turn me on again, which is very appreciated. Are you saying that effective presentation is mostly absent in CYOAs? Then I agree. If you think that a solid presentation can't do wonders for seeing important information at a glance, and therefore make it easy to see what was changed, then I disagree.

If you mean something else, then you're going to have to go ahead and tell me, because I don't know what it is.

All of the auras are a single section, so you can either pick one Aura and get "sub-aura" 1-5 from that aura or take Aura 6 and get four "sub-auras" from the other auras, although you can't take "sub-aura" 1 for any of four.

I'm pretty sure they're saying that being long AND poorly presented is a problem. That's clearly not the same thing.
>>
>>47306838
No, since the problem can obviously appear even in a very well-formatted CYOA. Rereading a lot of text just to spot a few changes, no matter how appealing the text is in itself, is going to be a chore.
>>
>>47306838
If you want to get really technical, I was saying that being long and poorly presented /causes/ a problem. But close enough, I guess.

That's the point; with the right presentation you don't need to do this.

>>
>>47306985
>That's the point; with the right presentation you don't need to do this.
Yes you do. Some CYOAs need a lot of text because they have a lot of content. Because some of us LIKE a lot of content. How else do you expect to get all that info across? A linked youtube video?

You're either bashing CYOAs without honestly thinking the situation through, or you're an idiot.

The Ring, The Stones, The Quill

IF the Stones work on others, then there's really no need for the coin. I'd be rich off of backalley sex changes. Even if I limited my clientele to protect myself, I could make a killing on one-time applications to the Chaz Bonos and Bruce Jenners of the world. Plus, masturbation.

The Quill would be tremendously useful in all aspects and manners of life. It wouldn't hurt my business, and seeing as I'm currently on track to go into law, I'd be untouchable.

The Ring because who wants to risk cancer?
>>
>>47306985
I get your feeling. Whenever I work with a new hotshot graphic designer, they're stuck in this feeling that text is "just that thing that comes in blocks, and all I can really do is change the font".

I find that explaining the concept of "graphical text" goes a long way to getting them to internalize the idea that design is more than being likeable; function is involved.

Well, to be fair that's not really in a graphic designers wheelhouse - thought they are pretty well-placed to catch up. The only reason it ends up on their plate is that a lot of writers don't have the faintest idea about how to present information either, and the lead doesn't have time to micromanage everything.

Usually, how receptive a new GD is to concepts like that help me identify early which ones are going to keep gaining skills, and which ones are just good for piecemeal grunt work until someone better comes along.

That being said, I wonder what CYOA has spent the most time being developed/updated.
>>
>>47307311
That's the thing, I don't dislike it particular. But it simply isn't objectively capable of the things you can do with the same content, of the same length, presented more effectively.

I didn't invent this problem; other people brought it up and I just explained it.
>>
>>47306006
Primary: Wrath
Level 1: Mind of Violence
Level 2: Gluttony
Level 3: Envy, Gluttony

Secondary: Envy
Level 2: Wrath, Gluttony (Boon)

Tertiary: Gluttony

Curses: Unknown, Vampire Curse
Boons: Playing Favorites, Specialty Versatility

Affect one city, eh? Lucky for me, and unfortunately for the rest of the world, I live near Washington DC. A little while of using Gluttony and Envy to make the politicians boil over, and it shouldn't be too hard to get World War III started. Then from the ashes, well, guess who gets to rise up and become a warlord. I'll lead my soldiers to conquer as wide an area as I can reasonably control, then starve my people, terrorize them, and subjugate them, until they just can't take it anymore. Then when the dust settles, I'll travel somewhere else, and do it all over again. And again.
>>
>>47307472
Maybe that traveller cyoa?
>>
>>47307476
You didn't explain anything, you just misunderstood what the issue is and gave a lazy and unhelpful suggestion. In this context there is no such thing as a more effective way to present it. The amount of information is what's stopping someone from going through everything again on the off chance that they'll spot something new.

It's not a problem, it's a limitation of the medium. It's never going away, because it can't. If you want that much information, then you need that much text.

With metallic claws and bones, incredible toughness and even the ability to "escape death" 3 times per day I'm like Wolverine in little girl form even before considering the healing magic from the Life grimoire. I also have incredible speed (gotta go fast), plus some lightning powers. Not to mention enhanced grace, beauty, and elegance. Plus I have neuralyzer eye powers.

The false body cost me my ability to learn effectively, so naturally the first thing they did was replace it with magic via the Knowledge grimiore. I'm using the utility spell option but the CYOA says nothing about what spells are available so I'm just going to leave that open.

With the Life grimiore I'll be fighting those evils, or mostly their minions, as a sort of Majokko-lite. Not that I really NEED to with a 10,000 year lifespan naturally, but I'd certainly regret not having the option when I make it to 9,999. As a bonus, I get to age up to 12 immediately on my second birthday rather slowly over 90 years. I have a Fianna bodyguard who is more than willing to help with this.

While my speed and toughness are unmatched, my strength and magic leave my offense lacking, and I'm very weak to magic. I mostly intend to stay away from the more dangerous Evils unless I happen to have some backup. Maybe I'll team up with a Majokko at some point? As long as they don't decide I'm an enemy instead with my demonic heritage, I'd stand little chance against magic like that.
>>
>>47307547
What? They seemed to understand the issue, and didn't suggest anything.

>the rest of your post
There's a difference between raw data and information, guy. Like, I get that we all have our strengths and weaknesses but you don't have to be an asshole when you don't understand something.
>>
>>47307618
There's a hard limit to how little text you need when presenting a given amount of information in a CYOA.

Sure, you could now say that you can do it with symbols or some other clever way, but that doesn't change anything. Someone going through the CYOA to spot changes is still going to have to pay attention to all of that too.

So no, there is no way to get around it. That's the difference between a problem and a limitation.
>>
>>47307656
I don't think anyone's arguing against using text, anon. Just using it intelligently. That's why things like tables and lists exist, and bolding certain words or making them a certain colour.

No, the entire argument is about whether having a lot of information in a CYOA is a problem.

No matter what the efficiency of the presentation is, there is always going to be an amount of information that's so large it's going to become it tedious to go through again and again scanning for changes. That doesn't mean that kind of CYOA should be discouraged though, because some of us like it.

Understand? Or should I draw you a picture or something?

I don't think you understand the discussion. Maybe take a break or something.

If my invalid build were to be accepted, aren't I technically the most powerful character? I've got over-all better stats than the other characters, I'm basically immune to magic damage, can all but instantly regen, am inhumanly agile and can teleport in such a way that it could OHKO the other ones.

Doesn't count if it's not an allowed build any more than I could just pick everything on the list with all 11s and say I was the strongest.

The main thing is you can't get the really cool aura powers along with immortality. Anyway, the false-body lilim can still one-up you with their cheat death 3x per day shenanigans.
>>
>>47307751
I don't know about Cambiare but personally, I liked Fianna at first but noped out of it the moment I saw the whole must be gay thing. I know it's not forcing you to actually do anything but it says you prefer your gender inherently. And I was going for one that doesn't force me to a girl too. As weird as it may sound. Forcing me to be a certain gender is something I could probably live with, but forcing my orientation is too far.
>>
>>47307867

>>47305856
>If it's small
>>
>>47307885
Cambiare is just some slice of life shit with very minor powers. The powers are focused on comfort and mundane use, so If you don't want to be awesome and you don't want to be immortal it's the choice for you.

Not many people are going to fit in that category.

Vegetarian, meatlovers, and soda.

Not that I want in any way to bring back the magical realms cyoa and all the tomfoolery that came with it, but does anyone have the last version of the images? The interactive site is up to date, but the only places I find the images are a few versions behind.
>>
>>47307885
>>47307935
The Fianna is just weaker than the big three. Powers are based on physical mutations so it gets a bit squicky too, and there's no immortality option either. Really just no reason to pick Fianna over the other options. Even Cambiare at least serves a purpose, even if it's one that not many people will want.

Going lesbo doesn't really bother me, it just doesn't really offer anything in return.
>>
>>47307903
Being small or large isn't the problem, not being able to scan it is. You're linking the post that says it, explicitly.

Man, you just want to get mad about anything, don't you?
>>
>>47307977
>Vegetarian AND Meatlovers

>>
>>47307817
>>47307884

Ladies, Kukla, the main thing is we stop getting distracted by who can one-up who or kill the other and focus on what's important. Defeating the minions of evil so we can shove extra life-force down our friends throats and not have to outlive them.

Oh... and making the world a better place. I guess that's an unintended by-product.
>>
>>47308015
You're doing it again.

There's a limit to how large a CYOA can be and still be easily scannable. That doesn't mean we don't appreciate and want CYOAs that are larger than that limit.

To give you a concrete example you can wrap your hard little head around, take stardust. It's a good example for this, since it's both very large and very well edited and present it. And yet, there's no way you could easily find a few changes in it without using some kind of tedious method like quickly altering two versions of the same images in your folder, which would in itself also take you a while to set up.

So no. Your solution is not a solution.
>>
>>47307716
Vegetarian, Supreme, and Garlic Bread

Peperoni requires that I actually have skills worth mastering. Depending on how much skill is needed to begin with (does being able to grill a hamburger make you a master chef?) it might be an OK option, but I still don't get anything exceptional from it.

Meatlovers is tempting, but the combination of Vegetarian and Supreme covers that pretty handily.

The other 3 are all money, one way or another. Useful, but not something that can't be theoretically obtained without magical help.

too bad the best effects are on the most disgusting pizzas. It'll be hard to force that shit down, but definitely worth it.

Garlic bread is the best effect though. There are plenty of nifty fantasy techs, but the first thing that comes to mind is life extension/immortality, probably in the form of mind-upload.

Again, putting words into my mouth.

Photoshop isn't a very good solution for paint and canvas illustrations, but where it can be used? It's generally useful. A solution doesn't have to be an ultimate solution that solves everything forever to be useful.

Even a CYOA that is too long to be scanned can benefit from good presentation, so I'm not sure what your problem is.

Alright kids, last thread is dead so it's time to count up the polls.

In first place is the the option to never sleep at night, always knowing that someone is writing shitty yoai fan fiction about you, somewhere. In second and third are the 'oh god what the fuck is going on' options. Forth place goes to Offworld Obligations while fifth is the 'player' triggering Ae so hard it begins to punch itself in the face. Special shoutouts to the Woolie-hole effect, Shipping wars and general social incompetence.

As for the worlds, in first place after a long hard battle is Space Opera, or Spess Opera, depending on how things pan out. In second the forest of the world Trees, in third we have Cyberpunk and fourth respectively a digital world. Special thanks to KILL SIX BILLION DEMONS, cape shit and Japanese games developer Hideo Kojima.

And finally it seems we are going balls to the wall for Lore.

Thanks to everyone who voted, I appreaciate it. The worlds, Items, Lore, Origins, traits and everything have been for the most part decided with your help, Next section of companions as soon as possible and I shall begin working on the next version of Traveller.

Breaking down the essentials of this build:

Female, enhanced features "built for sex". Android body and immortality.

Maxed out house, though the entertainment is a little lacking (I was thinking of spending the leftovers there but didn't get around to choosing). Since I'm an android who needs neither food nor sleep nor cleaning most of the house isn't actually necessary to me, but I figured I'd want to have it for either recreational purposes or entertaining after the show.

AI waifu. She can use the sexbot, my computer, the tentacles, or even interface directly with my android brain. Fun times, but I got to be careful how I design her. I'm looking at only slightly sexual and more fun and friendly. I figure I play video games with her and she makes sexual bets on the outcome (and keeps it fair/even, god knows an AI could easily win any game). More edging on a loss, release on a win that sort of thing.

Don't really care much about what I wear on the show, and I can't leave the house till it's over, so I got free points from that section.

Drugs are risky, forced sensitivity boost to the max could very well overwhelm me, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Fortunately I have an enhanced android brain so I don't think it will completely mind break me. Forced stamina boost (not high-concentration) is mostly just so I don't crumble instantly and can actually participate.

I don't really get off on humiliation and physical abuse, so I picked owners more geared towards sex.

Punishments are basically full-body forced stimulation, sometimes at random but usually at my owner's or AI's control, along with edging and denial until someone lets me cum. It's a good thing I don't have to sleep, because I probably wouldn't be able to. Of course I do have that chip that forces me to sleep if one of my owners wants to take advantage or force me to suffer nightmares, all things considered that may as well be free points.

It would eliminate the hassle, the time and money investment and the most of the associated difficulties of being somewhere new, but I wouldn't go just to be somewhere new.

I would go because there was something in that place that I wanted. Could be anything, maybe just a restaurant I want to try.

I don't care about the place, I ONLY care about what I do when I get there, and it needs to be worth going all the way there for, and then enduring things like "culture" and "new people" that pretty much just annoys me, it almost never is.

To you, there is. It's not like there weren't already people living in Java or the New World, but it was new to the people going there.

There's a lot to experience in the physical world, no disrespect to the internet.

But like I said, we can't all be explorers. Some people are cut out for it and some have the bug bad, and some just... aren't that interested lol.

There's a big difference between seeing pictures and actually going somewhere, though. I mean, if you don't like it, you don't like it - but I'd fucking love traveling across the country with a sexy woman, getting to actually experience all the cool shit I just see behind screens for once.
>>
>>47309673
If I can't meet women here I'm not going to meet them anywhere else either. I've been across half the country already (from Virginia to Texas), it's just headaches and hotel rooms to me.
>>
>>47309705
>If I can't meet women here I'm not going to meet them anywhere else either.
See, if you had the knack for travel you'd know that just isn't true. I can get an out-of-towner a take-home date 3, 4, 5 points higher on the "out of 10" scale.
>>
>>47309667
Seconded. If you or someone else has already been somewhere, the world is always changing at every level. Not even the most hiked trails remain unchanging: there's shit growing and dying 24/7. Speaking from my own experience, living in the same neighborhood for 20 years, I thought I witnessed all it had to offer, until I saw a couple of bobwhites for the first time. Even if the whole earth has been explored at some point or another, doesn't make your discovery any less meaningful.

To quote Heraclitus: "No same man could walk through the same river twice, as the man and the river have since changed."
>>
>>47309836
Yeah, my take has always been that boredom isn't an extension of the world around you, it's a state of mind. Some people are always going to be kind of nonplussed in the face of all the cool opportunities around them.
>>
>>47309921
As a child, I was never bored, and I honestly didn't know what it meant. Later as an adult I developed some anxiety that I won't get into, when I explained it to a friend they said "sounds like you're just bored". But for me, it felt more like "trapped". So part of me suspects that a lot of boredom is just misplaced fear and frustration at helplessness, and all that shit.
>>
>>47309921
Its only getting worse. Even if people these days do notice the cool things and opportunities all around them the first thing that comes to their mind is to take a picture of the cool shit, splatter it all over every single social media site they frequent and in triplicate and then spend the majority of the time, reading and responding to all the comments, checking all the likes, reblogs, reposts and karma that it generates and get giddy as your E-peen increases.

Don't let on I can speak the languages (until it's time for a major miracle in front of a crowd, then "lose" the ability again). Make sure to set boundaries with companions early, but keep them close and respect them deeply. Take great interest in all goings on, secretly, but most of your edicts flow through them.

Increase the standing and influence of the Tarabin though generosity and hard work (mostly theirs), while preparing them for potential hardship (stockpiling, training, exchanging brides with friendly neighbors, etc).

Find an outlet for my violent and womanizing tendencies, wrap it in pseudo-religious terms involving secrecy, self-sacrifice, and chronically-avoided doom; make very clear there is no expectation of exclusivity, but that her place is a place of constant honor among the constant procession of others, who will come and go. Leave her a way out that ties up loose ends and ensures a replacement (or else if she feels trapped she will explode everything).

Strike while the iron is hot; spend the next year touring all of the major tribes in a kind of reverse-pilgrimage, solidifying your position and reminding people of your existence. Don't neglect Tarabin during this time. Try, oh try to keep the womanizing under control.

As to the end game... unification? Absconding with great wealth? No, I think the goal will be to worm myself into the culture of the region, to the point where people can't really remember what it was like before I came.

While I don't have a problem with furries I tend to always try and stay as human as possible in my CYOAs. So I would probably pass on this just for that.

What do you mean? The Mongols had plenty of horse archers.

If you mean they don't have a bonus to riding and shooting, they have a bonus to archery and I suppose I could add something for horseback riding.
>islanders get archery instead
They're the British, the British are famed for their longbowmen, and Espionage is an alternate form of stealth that rather than staying invisible is disguise based (like TF2 Cloak vs Disguise)

Zwelikude
Annie Harding

Time to bootstrap these people into a pre-industrial society. Though revered as a god my plan is to work with the Shirani in the fields, directing them in implementing advanced agricultural methods. The first few years should see a dramatic decrease in the number of people required to harvest the same amount of food leading to a much increased workforce. The Babar are also of interest to me in creating a civilization centered around productivity, though it seems they may be more specialized craftsmen than the laborers I envision. The Tarabin and Sikander need to be made a part of the plan as well; though my English blood boils with desire to Civilize these savages it seems more useful to integrate my technology with their pre-existing culture in a more natural way.

The Murad and Zadran are the tough ones. If the Zadran can't shape up and prove themselves to be useful members of society I may just be able to manipulate the Murad into long-term conflict with them, keeping both parties off my back for as long as possible.

After the agricultural improvements my focus will be on erecting public works and large monuments as proof of my technological knowledge. The knowledge of how to create these things will spread, of course, and hopefully with the increased food production the first generation born after my arrival can start to go through something resembling a formal education.

Zwelikude is just a top bloke in every way and Annie seems like a fun pick. Her character archetype is usually one of my favorites.
>>
>>47310860
I don't know why I didn't see the +5 Archery for the Steppes people. Espionage makes sense too, though I would express it differently in the description.

I guess I just find it weird to juxtapose in my head Agincourt-era British with Nanking-era British.
>>
Anyone keep the same characters in mind when making builds? I'm thinking of making cyoas that link other ones together. Do those exist already?
>>

>>
>>47308844
It has more to do with being able to pass the mental and magical requirements. That is, even if someone is badass they might not become a traveller because they simply don't have the right temporal make up or what not.

That said, the third world refugee was an educated and talented surgeon, because they don't just hire random schmucks.
>>
>>47308510
The inclusion of Jon Jafari makes me wonder: who's the most useless member of the Travellers? Only having robot parrots does put you pretty high on that list.
>>
>>47310812
Most people don't know who that is.
>>
>>47310923
>Shirani
Really tempting, but too scary for me. Tempers and pressures rise and fall all the time, and all it would take is one good charge and it's cutting right into your powerbase. With the Tarabin the river serves as a sort of a passive deterrent, which gives people and situations time to cool down before they do something stupid. Agriculture also makes a lot of sense with this choice.
>Engineering
Again, jealous. But I couldn't bring myself to cut anything for it.

>Annie Harding
Useful and a lot of fun, but I feel like she would be a ton of trouble too. And the bit about leaving if things turn dull is terrible; it's always calmest before the storm, she's going to leave just in time for my enemies to swoop in and me left wondering where the hell she is.

Origin: Merchant
Ascension: Resemblance (easiest to maintain if your act is good)
Loyalists: Tarabin (a social tribe is a good start for spreading my godliness)
Skills:
- Diplomacy (for making deals)
- Leadership (for acting like a god)
- Religion (for learning how to be god)
- Trading (for making profitable deals)
- Public Speaking (for speaking like a god)
Perk: Quick Witted (for not making mistakes)
Companions:
- Kafu Nazar (risky, but can help with politics)
- Jubair Hadi (even more risky, but can help with publicity)

I do not necessarily need to be the strongest or smartest man in the room to be an effective leader, as I can surround himself with those who are. But as a god, I must have the ability to lead, command, and unite the tribes. This arrangement of skills and perks will give me an edge in not only proving I am the god they believe I am, but also actively improving the tribes as a god would.

If I look like a god, speak like a god, and think like a god, then for all intents and purposes, I am a god.

Well remember they do have a bunch of seemingly useless fucks. Limited to but not including.

>A sapient sword
>The Nisetic perpetually stoned out of her mind
>Paria "Snu Snu" Pasha
>Fucking Morty Smith
>And all the varying levels of useless/usefull wankers Highlander's been adding for you people

It's like a Traveller is just the kind of person who will be in the right place at the right time, which might be the truth with all the time bullshit happening.

I liked desert soldier btw. You just made the mistake of releasing it during the princess shitstorm that's been dominated the last 3-4 threads

Tarabin are an interesting choice but they just seemed too much like soft-handed pissants for my plan. I need workers and laborers to get stuff done as quickly as possible, plus I have to admit I sort of romanticize the idea of the Chosen One coming first to the humble, salt of the earth types.

And you're probably right about Annie, but ah well. I guess the best case scenario is she Han Solos her way back with a British rifleman company to save the day right at the end.

Soda, vegetarian, pepperoni

Seriously pepperoni is OP. I can seduce or convince anyone, earn like 7 doctorates, go big in art, pollitics and shit, make a ton of money, make cool cyoas for free, design a butload of games, defend myself from any assailant or even military intervention, fix and make a lot of shit, and go survive in the wilderness alone if needed just by taking it. I'm sure there are people able to do much more.

Change it to three skills of your choosing, or to make it more interesting, one art, one science, one discipline, one other area of knowledge, and one skill.

And vegetarian just for the lifespan increase.

Soda is pretty obvious, if you don't pick it, is like asking neckbeard karma to come knocking at your door.

Fellow browsers of /cyoag/, I am at a bit of an impasse; I seek to make my first cyoa, yet I have several ideas on what to make. Tell me, which of the following would be the best to complete first:
Energy cyoa (40% done)
Four Horsemen cyoa
A cyoa where you receive powers, yet each power comes at a price.
Another seven sins/virtues cyoa (will try to make it unique).

If you need more information, just let me know.

Energy.

Either Energy or Powers.
>>
>>47312024
The basis behind it is simple; chose a source of energy, you get to feed off of that source. Feeding puts the energy in a reserve that you can access at any time to remove the need to sleep or to utilize various powers.
