>>
>>47247704
I'm ambivalent for much the same reason. The whole reason why Titans and Knights are different is that a large vehicle needs a team of assistants, while a smalle Knight has more agility and control as reflected by their higher WS and BS.

I can see a justification for this, which is that this knight is an emergency measure for heavy low-mobility firepower when a Scion is available but a Titan team isn't. But I doubt that will be followed too strictly in either fluff or promotion.

In a nutshell, the diversity of the game is threatened by the current taumech spam. The game is objectively less interesting and fun when armies and factions are samey.

If the large walker game stuck along the following grounds:
- Imperial: Big, heavy, expensive gunplats
- Orks: Cheap bucket-o'-bolts short-ranged carnage
- Eldar: Typical sleek stuff
- Tau: Much smaller, agile but not fast, punchy for their size, dependent on aircraft for heavy power
- Chaos: Weird and nasty, most melee-preferential
- Tyranids: Cheap and relatively agile, low raw defense but able to recover, spawn smaller creatures
- Necrons - Mixture of Canopteks and C'tan: former are tough, low-skill, weird, latter are expensive, pintsize powerhouses

The riptide chassis has been played with quite a bit. Forgeworld has always pushed the boundary with larger sculpts.

It would be nice if some other stuff got support, but honestly that's just asking for more LoW's.

Realistically they need to put out an epic style game and get this stuff out of their system. The realities of trying to own play with land based weapons the size of a battle titan are pretty stupid, if they're not for a FLGS showcase kinda thing.
>>
>>47247993
This. And I'd go further and say that anything larger than a Riptide shouldn't be fielded in a normal 40k game. Leave those monstrosities for Apocalypse games.

Of all the things that bother me about 40k the giant tau mecha isnt one of them, and given the universe its in it kind of makes sense

If we first make the assumption that building giant bipedal mechs is a good idea, which given that knights, titans and the eldar wraith constructs etc exist, they are

Then you look at the tactical niche that most of them fill, with the exception of the larger imperial walkers they are all almost universally assault/shock platforms, which creates problems for the tau (in their pre mecha days) as it create the scenario where if air cover isn't heavy enough to destroy 100% of opposing enemy giant robots they insta lose when they crash into their lines

So the tau, realizing that their doctrines created a situation where they could lose, adapted, and built a fuckhuge robot capable of shrugging off the worst of titan weaponry and armed to smash them open when they close in to perform their assaults

I mean, okay, they're someone's dpecial snowflakes, but jesus christ, they have EVERYTHING, every toy, every single bling in the book they have it. For absolutely no reason.
Another anon was quite right, they genuinely has no reason to have such an equipment. Minotaurs could be acceptable, and even then, it would be relics, ancient and revered and all.
But no Red Scorpions get all the nigty toys, throw them somewhere and that's it.

I mean for fuck's sake, the Leviathan Dreads were already rarities in the Heresy, being made so late, and rare, and dangerous. Yet RS have one for their chapter master, just like that.
And that Mastodon, how much do you bet we're gonna get told it's rare as fuck, impossible to get, yet RS have loads of them.

You know I won't be that upset if Tau win, just have them at least struggle or have substantial set backs for it

Cute. You know what other weapon has those exact same stats?

Any one FW says. They're not real, you know.

So it doesn't have to look like a keg or be shoulder mounted or make the rest of the model look stupid. Those were all concepts okayed by FW before release. I can still express opinions about that, right? I mean, it's not too late?

If you're unable to sell a 1200 dollar resin brick to someone who wants to buy it because of shame, it's your problem. Meanwhile people who do are not poorfags, because they make 1200 dollars per resin brick and laugh all the way to the bank.

Normal people call those "scammers", and usually they get what they deserve in the end.
>>
>>47249014
Looking at your pic, I do find a difference though.

Art is the artifical creation of value.
Novody cares about a childish canva until someone says "Hey Imma give you 1k for that shit." Suddenly that artist is worth 1k,while other people who made chilish canva will still be worth jackshit.
It's the demand that actually give its value to the offer.

In FW's case, it's them taking a beick of resin and saying "that brick right here is worth 1k" while in truth it's worth maybe 50-100 dollars if we consider GW prices.
But since people buy it, it's actually the offer that gives it value.

But as long as people will buy, we'll see cases like that I'm afraid.
>>
>>47249015
You mean when multiple "titan-killer" flyers lost managed to destroy a single warhound while suffering losses and how for the Tau it was a major achievement?

FW put a value on their resin brick based on the work put into it, notoriety of FW over some two-bit outfit, etc.

Sure, but the market in art, when concerning new artists, don't start with someone saying "Hey fuckheads, I painted 3 red lines on some white canvas, give me 10k!" It's almost always some rich weird guy that will suddznly give value to that guy because reasons. And then indeed, that artist can start making his own prices. But otherwise, it's definitely the buyer that gets to choose what this piece of art is worth at first. I mean, otherwise, everyone would be an artist if you could get easy money like that.

FW is now in the position of a renowned artist though, people know them, plus they benefited from theor whole "we're like the elite for GW models" which enabled them immediately when they started to have some artificial value in their products.

With the defeat of the crusade, there would been nothing to stop the Tau from grabbing a big chunk from the Imperium and tripling their holdings.

It's probably a balancing measure, given GW central's boner for powerwanking the Imperium in fluff for the last X years. If I had to choose between an Imperium mostly or always portrayed as winning or losing, it'd be the latter because that's actually interesting.

>>47248304
>>47248417
Guy who wrote the summary here, the thing that interests me the most about operating a titan is the detail of actualling manning one from the perspective of the crew. Simply representing the beast's capacity with a BS of 3 and watching it generally knock a large chunk out of the enemy army every turn isn't very engaging. Epic remedies this by making the scale greater, so every side has many Titan-grade units. But then the game is just a mini 40K, which isn't that dinstinct an experience.

There hasn't been a fun representation of this experience in game form however. Adeptus Titanicus was a step in the right direction but it doesn't facillitate the feel of combat with much excitement. Video gaming is probably the single best approach, as it allows for easily adjustable scaling and varied real time versus turn-based pacing. Anyone who's played FTL knows the sort of experience I have in mind. The difference is control one slow walker and moving across a rugged battlefield, turning to face certain targets and making sure enough crew are on hand to manage the guns, the Princeps is protected and so on.

40K needs to be a platoon scale game. A leader, a few squads and some sort of heavy support element like a tank. However it needs ro be limited. A single tank, MAYBE two in bjgger games. Armies of maybe 30 to 40 guys at most. No fliers, no Knights, no Riptides. None of that shit is practical at 28mm.

That stuff comes in with Epic. That's where you have tank companies and titans and fliers. It works at that 6-10mm scale because two models don't take up a quarter of the table.
