If making a cathay army, would it be offensive to include things based on things typically found in Japan? The bird men mentioned in tamurkhan seem cool, but they're japanese not Chinese. Also, ninjas are Japanese yet skaven fluff mentions eshin learned part of their skills in cathay.

Eshin aren't JUST ninja.

The Chinese Imperial Court was a fucking CLUSTERFUCK of plotting and rivalries, assassinations and forged documents. More so Cathay due to Tzeentch influence.

So Eshin most likely learned plotting and manipulation beyond that of other Skaven in Cathay. The dressing in black and indetected assassinations from Nippon.

Also, Chinese folklore hard bird people. Every culture has. Peng for example are fish/birds.
>>
>>47203755
If you want to include things found in Japan then just do a Nippon army and go watch an amazing film called Ran.
For Cathay you want monks, terracotta magical constructs and Chinese dragons.
>>
>>47203755
I think that last part is just a reference to the importation of the martial arts from China to Japan. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Ushoran being alive, 3 things.

Some people like the Fantasy Orks. I guess you can give them that.

The slap in the face to 40k when they put the Sigmarine out front instead of the Space Marine, if you're a console wars type.

We wouldn't be getting all these awesome video games thanks to GW's full retard "video games are a fad that compete with model sales" belief.

So six things.

Some of the stuff is good. The models are very detailed and have strong poses. However much of it is over the top in a bad way. It is very cartoonish and too much like Warmachine stuff. Also everything looks pretty mono pose.

Honestly, the standard Chaos Warrior style is much better as well.

So Eshin are the preeminent assassins of skavendom.

However, skaven are known for two things: smelling worse than open sewers, and excellent senses of smell.

Does this mean that Clan Eshin defends the secret technique of bathing so that targets don't smell you sneaking up?

Chaos art has either been hulking behemoths/piles of horrifying mutation, with nothing recognizable as having ever been human underneath or as something straight out of a Cronenburg movie.

The Age Chaos stuff just looks like shitty 90's comics. In fact, if you add a Katana and some pouches to them they are indistinguishable from a Rob Liefeld or Jom Lee antihero.

Base size has fuck all to do with the aesthetics of a faction.

It also doesn't matter that model if from AoS because Chaos really hasn't changed its aesthetics in the transition.

You strike me as someone so blinded by salt that you just dismiss AoS models out of hand, which basically means arguing with you is pointless because you'll always find some excuse as to why a certain model doesn't fit the Warriors of Chaos aesthetic.

I feel like this is a good example, this picture is from the Blooudbound book and yet was posted in a Fantasy art thread with no one making a peep.

What goalposts am I moving? That was my first post in the thread.

This is a stupid argument that pops up, usually with Warriors of Chaos, about how X really isn't Chaos because the person in question doesn't know what the fuck the aesthetic is like, only considers the aesthetic that was current when they got into the game and possibly older ones to be true, are blinded by salt towards AoS, or some combination of the above.

The difference between the division between the 40k/30k and the whfb/aos generals is that the first are both supported and explore a previously presented event of the setting while in the second case only the latter is officially supported and it was built on the destruction of the setting

8th edition BRB mentions one horned ogres, golden dragons and terra-cotta soldiers. In Tamurkhan, A huge beastmen army attacks a cathay outpost and gets BTFO. The fluff mentions stone fleshed temple dogs and crowmen that seem to function like Morghasts. Later on they mention strange animated constructs swimming through rock as if it were water and popping up to surround the enemy. Not sure if the strange stone creatures swimming through rock are the same as the temple dogs though. Other noteworthy rings from that battle are bronze canons that spit clusters of javelins, "dragon blooded shugengan" which are wizards seemingly equal or even superior to college wizards, repeating crossbows and magical fireworks that fill the skies with phantasmal creatures.

From what little information we have on Cathay, they seem stronger than the empire, closer to ancient nehekara in power.

We have little evidence either way but one thing we can say is that Cathay is more united than the empire having one Dragon Emperor rather than competing elector counts. They also seem to be portraying Cathay as the 'orientalist' romanticised version, ie. they were the most advanced culture for thousands of years before the Greeks, Egyptians and Babylonians. They had paper makers, a written language and an advanced bureaucracy in the form of Mandarin officials. So they seem to be at least at the same level as the Empire.

Except the fluff says otherwise. Eat a bag of dicks, you weeabo fgt.
>>
>>47213069
>Why do people keep saying that?
because in what very little fluff we have for them, they have shit that makes the empire look silly, like animated constructs and dragons. I know the Empire is outright stated to be the strongest Human faction in the setting, but you can't blame someone for thinking Cathay is stronger based on what little information we have. After all, half the fan base would have you think that the empire is a historical army with a couple of wizards, a griffon and a steam tank thrown in here and there.

>Everything seems to you because you want it this way but reality refuses to change for your whims.

Sure, as long as you justify it properly, either as a result of witchcraft (like the floating castle that sometimes gets in and out of reality and the realm of chaos featured in blood in the badlands) or as a result of unlikely geomantic conformations (think pandora's mountains but with upwards magical currents instead of magnetic fields)

If I had to populate it I would fill those islands with pygmies, remnants of the sky giants, dragons, chaotic bird-beastmen and all manner of monsters which usually get attracted by magical concentrations.

In a possibly vain attempt to bring discussion back to something positive, I'd like to talk about a campaign me and some friends are about to start.

The plan is to have the action take place in Bretonnia, with various factions turning up for different purposes.

An undead queen rising from the barrows of the Grey Mountains seeks to cast down the defenders of Bordeleaux and set up her own undead kingdom. Lizardmen have landed in the north intent on defending an ancient hidden temple in Loren Forest, which a corsair force of Dark Elves have set their sights on.

Meanwhile, the Empire is using the impending conflict to see whether they can 'help' Bretonnia and maybe coincidentally expand their holdings at the same time. Contracts of allegiance are drafted as they view Parravon with unabashed greed.

Orcs and Goblins are everywhere, and the savage forest tribes have been driven into a frenzy by an enormous warboss riding a wyvern, ready to Waaagh! all over Bretonnia and generally cause strife.

We're using 8th edition rules with some modifications. For a start, the undead (TK) player is allowed to use the rules from ET: Nagash regarding their army, so they can march within 12" of the General. We have slightly changed how Crumble works if the General dies - it works like it does for VC with a lower ranking wizard taking over the task after a turn has passed.

In addition, we've made it so Disruption also prevents Steadfast, units that successfully charge get Always Strike First (with no bonus if they already have it), and a single Command rank doesn't count for the purposes of Steadfast.

Finally, wizards are ranked into Apprentice (Hero) and Master (Lord) level. Apprentice wizards get +1 to cast/dispel, Master wizards get +2.

We wanted to encourage greater list variation and we hope that with the changes to wizards people won't feel like they need to bring a level 4 wizard as much.

Not much WHFB at the moment, to be honest. I have been painting Mantic Dungeon Saga minis which looks better than a lot of their regular Kings of War minis. I was planning on buying Frostgrave minis and convert them to look like Mordheim human warbands. Otherwise I'm just waiting for Warlord games to at some point in the future release the plastic landsknechts they showcased, that I will use to build an Empire army with. I might buy some Perry plastic knights while waiting for that.

All this waiting sucks.

My Intention is to start interesting and often speculative fluff discussion, but 9/10 times that gets quickly derailed by spergs. See above

Anyway, my favorite bit of fluff has to be the war of sand and snow from tomb kings 8th. I wish that was expanded into a BL series or campaign book, I loved seeing chaos get BTFO on their home turf

>>47213931
Was that the one where Settra furiously leads his army all the way to the north side of the Old World to make a point?

>Finally, wizards are ranked into Apprentice (Hero) and Master (Lord) level. Apprentice wizards get +1 to cast/dispel, Master wizards get +2.
Why this? No bonus relative to the mage's level?
>>
>>47214041
We all played 8th ed from the beginning, and felt that with the bonuses relative to wizard level, two things happened:

1. No one ever took level 3 wizards.

2. If you didn't take a level 4 wizard you were deliberately gimping your army.

I can count on one hand the number of times I saw an enemy army without a level 4 wizard in it (Dwarves notwithstanding).

Reducing it to only +1 and +2 means that if you only take a level 1 wizard (not much of a points investment) you're not significantly disadvantaged against a player who has brought a level 4 wizard. Similarly, if you don't take a wizard at all it isn't a complete write-off.

It is all subject to change though, if we feel like the original objective isn't being achieved or that the modifications have made games worse.

Yeah, he gets killed by a chaos champion and is forced to go back to his pyramid to repawn. The chaos forces still get BTFO but 12 of the mauraders escaped with a bunch of loot and Settras crown. It was in that very moment the chaos forces should have known they fucked up, because the crime of laying your pleb hands on the crown is punishable by complete annihilation. Settra leads a huge army into norsca and slaughters everyone, retrieving all the treasure in 5 years before finally catching up to the guy who has the crown. Chaos horde is huge and has many monsters and elite units, but gets BTFO. Apophas is a kill stealing faggot and takes out the chaos lord, but SETTRA makes up for it by soloing a shaggoth in the middle of a storm and teaching everyone in the chaos wastes a valuable lesson: SETTRA IS THE BEST!!!!

Some have speculated that settras revenge war was less about retrieving the crown and more about making sure no living man who witnessed his defeat at the hands of a maurader chieftain lived to tell that tale. All who expressed views such as this were found torn limb from limb and drained of all moisture, through unknown means.

I always associated big mages being strong more to the number of spells available (and magic resistance doing little to counter the big spells) than the bonus to casting myself, I can see the problem you're trying to fix, it just sounded like an additional bonus in the first post.
>>
>>47214109
Oh right, yeah, the +1/+2 replaces the usual bonus entirely, it isn't additional.

That'd be pretty crazy, Level 4's would be at +6 to cast.

>settra marches to the north
I wonder what titles the empire newspapers had in that period, I mean, an army that big doesn't pass unseen but it is also unlikely to see it having conflicts before reaching norsca

I wonder if Settra and Grimgor are the two most vindictive and angriest characters in the setting, that are not Khorne characters? Although, Grimgor is always angry while Settra just gets angry at the drop of a hat.

Either way, both of them will go through ridiculous lengths to get back at anyone that has antagonises them and kill the shit out of anyone that's stupid enough to get in the way.
>>
>>47214128
Well, settra has that mighty war fleet for a reason, they sailed there! If anyone said anything about it it was probably the elves. They likely were shitting their pants until they realized where settra was actually headed. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the elves manipulated the entire situation to get the tomb kings to do the dirty work for them. in which case, Settra needs to have a few words with the pointy eared faggots...
>>
>>47214128
Well, in all likelyhood they will march day and night. Unlike any other army in the setting the Tomb Kings doesn't need to sustain on anything. So there is not reason for them to plunder farms, towns and shit on the way to Norsca. Even most vampires will have to get blood when out on a campaign. Mummies just function all the time and they would only eat or drink anything out of habbit.

So they should be able to get to Norsca faster than most other armies.

Only if Settra wills it so. Which is not unlikely, since I think it was his idea to pretend that nothing bad happened and everyone had to LARP skeleton Sims for his entertainment. I hope that Settra demanded that all passing villages and towns prepared a feast for him.

I don't think that Malekith is as fickle as Grimgor or Settra are, but in the older editions he did have all chariots in Naggaroth destroyed ao that he would be the only one that would get to ride one.

How do Dual Pistol Maneaters compare to Leadbelchers? I'd like to stop incoming Purple Suns/Pits of Shade by shooting up wizards, and kill chaff/redirectors , and I'm not sure If I can use my Maneaters in place of Leadbelchers.

Both 8th or 9th, in terms of rules. in 9th, the maneaters do 3 hits when over 12" away, and have poison and are better in melee, whereas the Leadbelchers do 3.5 hits when over 12" away. Within 12", the Leadbelchers do 5.75 hits, to the 4 of the Maneaters.

Which should I go with? I'd like the Maneaters as my converted ones look a lot cooler, but for shooting at chaff, it seems like they do their job a lot worse.

How the fuck do you rank up Savage Orc Boar Boyz? I figured out how to do them in rows, but when I try to line the rows up, the tails always hit the faces of the other boars and stop them from ranking.

I finally figured out that you were supposed to alterate Boyz leaning forwards and backwards to get the rows to line up, but I don't see the trick to ranking up the rows.

/tg/, how do you rank up your Boar Boyz? Right now I'm thinking i'll have to base them on rocks and make the heights different for each rank.
>>
>>47216242
Being part does not mean being the same, the same way you're not inextricably the end of your hair, I can easily use all the 8th ed material and ignore all the end times by not using the books called the end times and disregard the plot-line introduced by the last event of the vampire counts book about the princess kidnapping which leads to the campaign for sigmar's blood.

Is the rest so drastically changed you can claim 8th and ET to be inseparable?
>>
>>47216035

>having problems with boars
At least you don't have to rank cold ones, skinks or old skaven.

The ideal way would be to assign from the beginning which orc will be in the front and which in the rear, then glue them to the base accordingly to have the front ones more unbalanced forward while the back less centered on the base and a bit behind, it should be a small difference in the end.

Placing half of your models jumping produces bad effects, from experience, only up to 25%-33% should to still have a good look.

To be fair, the fully armored chaos warrior has been a relatively recent aesthetic coherence; chaos was and is all about variety and a group of bare-chested barbarians following khorne doesn't exactly scream out of theme to me I'm not going to defend other design choices like the angular musculatures, thin plate armour on the waist or the overdesigns of other details though
