So I finally bought my first model ever. I picked up a Leman Russ Demolisher and was curious if I could magnetize it so I could make it into any Leman Russ and not just a demolisher/executioner/whatever the third one on the box said.

For those who saw the nice new trailer for DoW 3.
Not a big fan of the airbrush overuse but still, nice diorama.
>>
>>47185576
Sure you can. Just do your resear h beforehand, there are certainly tutorials to teach you how to do just that with that exact model, after rhat it's just a matter of choosing the right magnets and not going too fast.

I suggest you make a thread either here or on /v/ if you want to know everything. Base building is back. The few screenshots we've seen are underwhelming though, but we all hope it's just because it's pre-alpha.
Or follow their fb or twitter and read their stuff.

Kudos to the movie studio who made it (not Relic) for the eldar boney look.

There's holes on the models because it's easier to produce, probably.

OKAY! After a deluge of IRL drama I am back at it much the "richer" and with way more "free" time.

I have taken the recommendation of numerous /tg/oloids and remove the old multi elbow arms and replaced them with a more conservative and purposeful set of arms all coming out of the torso athe the shoulder.
I didn't do them *quite* in the traditional sense with them coming out cascading down the side of the rib cage, but instead did them in a triangle sort of root at the torso arm mount point.
I will have just the one "Mark of Tzeentch" shoulder pad on the left group and have bare more defined shoulders on the exposed right group. The "hidden" arm with the kris and the lower pointing arm do not really allow for a shoulder pad, but I am okay with the idea.
As he *is* a CSM DP (as opposed to hailing from C:DoC like the other 2), and will be "Marked" instead of "Daemon of," I wanted to retain at least one shoulder pad.

I am much happier with how this is looking, so thank you /tg/rrlfr'ns!
What are yous thinking now?

I can't fucking match The Fang colour properly everytime (I don't have citadel or reaper pre-mixed paints, I mix them myself using acrylic paints) and I tend to thin my paints way too much (because the paint is thick as shit) and it becomes a bad wash that I need to layer in like 5 fucking times and I still see black primer in some parts. I have to buy The Fang, Fenrisian Grey, Russ Grey and Agrax Earthshade otherwise my army will have different shades of The Fang and I can clearly see the difference between 3 minis right now. How does one git gud at mixing?

On another note: I'm currently working on a diorama that I'm going to fit in an empty shelf in my room but I need to find a few green LEDs, some wires, a switch and a watch battery. Need to buy some foamcore and the details I'll make out of clay and some misc. bits I have laying around.
The diorama is an inside of a space wolf battleship and the main "control panel" showing the galaxy onto which they decide the next part of the galaxy to move/attack/etc is using a transparent kind of plastic that reflects an image provided by a slot in the diorama by my phone. (Yes the hologram gimmick using a "pyramid" clear plastic shape on youtube, I'll provide link if anyone wants to see what I mean)

>The Fang colour
Depending on which generation of GW paints that is from Vallejo should have a match for that.

>How does one git gud at mixing?
You can look up color theory for traditional paints and see how far that gets you.
Alternatively there are also online thingies for colormixing. Some of those will give you the opportunity to enter the destination color as rgb or hex or something like that and then give you the paints you need to mix that.
Just make sure you find one that is meant for traditional mixing of paint and not cmyk or mixing light (as you would for digital applications on a monitor).
>>
Hey guys. Anyone have any suggestions for converting plastic sisters out of official GW kits only?
>>
>>47190149
Yeah, I have some large metal wings. I am pinning them now.
>>
>>47191547
I don't care if it's from Vallejo, Reaper or GW, they're all the same, they're paints, more or less, vibrant or of a different quality. I only need the premixed stuff. As a matter of fact I am into actual traditional painting and have an art degree in that kind of stuff, so mixing isn't a problem for me, thing is, in traditional painting, you rarely have a long project that need exact colour mixing like that of a space marine chapter so mixing paints a little bit off from one painting area to the other is mostly a stylistic thing and adds depth to the whole canvas, but when it comes to an army that has to look the same from the first model to the last, I can't do an accurate mix and it's fucking with me so much it ruins me. I can bet that if I paint my whole army through manual mixing I will see exactly which batches of marines I've painted and when.

I probably need more color theory as you mentioned, so I'll get on that.
>>
>>47188957
Just started a new Word Bearer army. All I've got so far are 5 Gal Vorbak and 10 Tartaros termies. Half the termies are done.
>>
>>47191724
Yeah fair enough. Just saying if you get your color premixed from your manufacturer, you'll also assume that bunt umber is always the same shade. In practice that may vary I get that, but the only way to avoid that is to buy several pots of paints at once, mix enough to paint the entire army with and keep your own mix in empty bottles.
That way you can totally avoid tonal variation if you are particular about it.

Most of the paints I've used to paint my army with are OOP now so I kind of made peace with the idea that I'll never get a 100% match again.
Depending on your army or painting style it's not that big of a deal though. Stuff like Orks or IG or any fantasy army for that matter will likely have some variation in color. Add a little grittyness. The guy with the slightly lighter fatigues is a veterans that had them bleached by the sun on his previous deployment etc.

With marines or something like that your best best is, as I said, premixing enough pots in advance when you start the army and store them in Vallejo style bottles, cause the GW ones of any generations with the exception of the old hexbottles with the flat snap on lid are gonna dry out.

>Dev sarge's only job is to use his signum on your heavy weapons guys, never to actually enter combat.

I disagree, which is why dis spiffy lad carries a grav-gun combi-weapon.

On the turn that a Skyhammer Annihilation Force arrives from reserve, the devastator squads step out of their Drop Pods. For that one turn only, they have the "Relentless" special rule, which allows them to fire heavy and salvo weapons as if they had not moved. If you are the Ultramarines (or a successor chapter), declare that turn that you are enacting the "Devastators" doctrine. This allows all models with Ultramarine Chapter Tactics ("Scions of Guilliman") to re-roll rolls of '1' in the shooting phase, and devastator squads to re-roll any misses regardless of the number rolled.

So, I'll have devastator sergeants with combi-gravs, *plus* all of da 'eavy weapons, *plus* all of da bolta ladz firing as if stationary and re-rolling misses for one glorious turn. I'll even throw in the 30th anniversary Imperial Space Marine to use his disintegrator if I can manage it. *After* that turn, if the enemy doesn't retaliate and slaughter my guys, *then* I can think about using the Signum.
>>

if you're using citadel paints, maybe a coat of typhus corrosion to give it texture, then do some highlighting in a crisscross fashion? that'd make it look like rough burlap, especially with a bit of drybrushing

>>47196914
best way to do that is with liquid greenstuff in my experience
typhus corrosion lends itself to small patches rather than across whole models, but a pre prime stipple of liquid greenstuff will give you a good but subtle texture that doesnt affect your paintjob

Also, i've been working on my plague marines. When i started them, some 6 years ago, i wanted them to have an unusual look, something different than the usual green or white that nurgle armies somehow always go with. Anyway, i decided to do a brownish paintjob with highlights towards yellow and white helmets and clothes. Pic related was the outcome, but i really didn't like it. The colours didn't really mesh in any way and the already wretched and spoiled looking armour made it very hard to show off any kind of dirt, festering or even weathering.

I have boxes of stuff I need to sell but am too lazy to fire up ebay (seems like a bad time with so many people flogging their collections)
>>
>>47193613
Actually, you could make that even easier if you wanted to. Gloss clearcoat after you paint your base color, wash with oil paint/mineral spirits mix, remove the excess with a moist Q tip.
>>
>>47197640
We get anally destroyed by mail forwarding companies.
But it is what a lot of us do as it's still cheaper.

There was a period about 6 years ago where GW cracked down on international buyers. Pretty sure it was because of Australians buying from the US webstore.

Paying US$ even with postage was 50% of what it went for retail here.
>>
>>47197676

Maybe it's an idea to start a smuggling business
>>
>>47197690
If I went on holiday I'd fill a fucking suitcase with sprues that's for sure.
>>
>>47197714

I was thinking more along the lines of hiring a sea container for Australia, filling it with boxes and labeling it as "raw plastic"

Maybe remove the boxes so customs doesn't know what the fuck they're looking at
>>
>>47197730
i can agree that hiring a shipping container and chartering a freight ship is cheaper than paying forgeworlds aus shipping rate
>>
Shipping is what fucks is though.
End of the day I'd be charging close to retail just to cover that cost.

The trick here is to set up a business at your gaming club and order from companies as a retailer. GW fucks us here too though by having set stuff you HAVE to stock in a store before you can get general stuff.

But for most other companies it works fine.

Im going to be modelling and 3d printing modular terrain and giant robots for my tabletop. Anything I need to read or watch to git gud at painting them other than the OP?
>>
>>47197785

It's kind of hard to tell with that little information. Painting is quite complex. There is a fuckton you need to know to be good at it.

Hi all, colour-blind anon doing the freakshow dark eldar here. Still deciding how to do shadow spectres, think I've settled on this.
Do any colours stand out as looking bad? Is there any sections I've missed? Cheers
>>
>>47198222

Pretty good. The grey of the rock and the green of the cloth are close to the same value, so kind of blend together, but that might be the lighting. Love the gems, though, and it's a nice colorscheme you've got.
>>
>>47198222
The cloth looks wet due to over-highlighting and blends in with the rock spire a bit too much imo.

Repaint the rock a brown/sandstone shade and it'll pop more.
>>
I pick an army, buy a box, paint one guy the get bored and buy another and repeat please help

not many but I'm such a slow painter, that it will take me a year to finish
>>
>>47191135
Make sure you put wolf turds everywhere or have a servitor cleaning them. When you let wild animals run around your ship, there are consequences.
>>
>>47198093
What information do you need? Ill be painting on colored APA plastic from the 3D printer, In order to make it all modular Im actually going to be CADing the files to make them since thats what Im familiar with. Its going to be urban environments and robots, pretty simple shapes but I want to eventually add lighting effects and grafitti and things.
>>
>>47197178
I've built many a Leman Russ, anon, and I can't spot your mistake.

You're probably the only person who can. Don't worry about it.

Sorry for shit pic, need help with storm hammer painting for epic. Is this good? Trying to get it good as practice for painting titans.
>>
>>47198499

Imagine if people used to collect just enough fire wood for winter. Who gives a shit how long it takes, it's better to have too much lying around for those times where you have bills to pay or income problems.

Most money nowadays is monopoly money, not backed by gold or anything so if some currency owner decides, fuck america or europe, they can just start dumping money on the market and crash everything.

Nurgle imperial?

okay, this should be the final product of the yellow lines.

does it kind of fit with the other ones? if not, any tips on how to salvage it ?
>>
>>47199186

The yellow one looks nothing like the others who all look very good with their glow effect
>>
>>47199186
those are some pretty awsome tanks anon! blend in the yellow with the black a bit and it will fit right in
>>
>>47199220
>>47199278
yeah, i dont know what happened. i used the same technique i think.

>thick lines
>4 glazes
>middle line

though now i am typing it out i might have an idea. i wanted to be really carefull with the yellow and made sure it was covered really well. and with the other ones i might have done only 1-2 layers which didnt completely cover 100%

maybe if i do another brown glaze on it it might work out. but i am gonna have to be real careful with the middle line now.
>>
>>47199312
could also be the contrast on the photo hiding the effect.
>>
>>47199312
The whole yellow could be dropped a shade or two. It's a bit bright when compaired to the others.
That should help the blend too.

y i guess i made the yellow lines to bright. but i thought it would be okay.
the red tanks have blazing orange for their thick lines
>>
>>47199415
Wash it down a bit more then. At worst it will come out orange I suppose.
>>
>>47199186
Pretty cool transport boxes, anon. Did you salvaged them from somewhere or bought them like this ?
>>
>>47199460
It looks like a wiiU box with egg carton foam.
>>
>>47199415

I don't quite understand your process though. Why aren't you just making white lines in the recesses and then adding a glow effect with glazes who are already transparent to begin with?

Thoughts on my bikes so far? I might print out a stencil for lightning bolts, and some samples of mongolian script to paint onto the front.

no, cadian paint. Is it too green?
>>

Maybe it's because of the close up but the white seems a bit tacky. Primer fucked up?
>>

>>47199477
wii box with cheap foam.

i noticed the wii-wiiu box has 2 drawers which fir 3 grav tanks each perfectly. so i can carry around 6 tanks in a wii sized box.

>>47199491
well i wanted to extend the glow effect beyond the tiny little lines in the grav tank, so i make the tiny lines super bright, and then around the edges i make lines with a bright color which i was 4 times.

Yeah, they are a bit. I'm not sure if I scrubbed them enough before priming them, to be honest. Maybe held the can too close whilst priming as well, seeing as I need to do my spraying inside my flat with the balcony doors open. A far more obvious case: My Sicaran
>>
>>47199672
I'm more sorry for the tip of the cannon. That tank is losing its boner.
>>
>>47197519
that's a meme

I've worked in several countries and your white collar jobs will pay about the same as America. It's only the lowest level jobs that get paid more. Plumbers somehow manage to make a six figure salary too.
>>
>>47199726
That's insane, I'm holding it in my hand, and it looks fine. But it's right there in the photo.
>>
>>47199740
Plumbers that have their own company make a metric fuckton of money in 1st world countries, I'm jelly.
>>
>>47199579

Colors are fine, it just looks like it's covered in boils in the picture haha. Probably because of the metal underneath
>>
>>47193613
eeberytime I see this picture I call bullshit, you can LITERALLY see the photoshop white from step 2 to 3, look closely at the gun: the white gets brighter but the wash areas and still the EXACT SAME size
>>

holy shit, you guys are still blabbing about this shit? let's see some wip already, fuck.

Get him a storm bolter or combi-weapon.
I agree he's not getting into combat but he can still join in on the shooting.
One of my BA devastator squads is 3 heavy bolters, a plasma cannon and a storm bolter for sarge. Infantry stays away or gets rekt
