Have you guys ever been to an airplane museum? One with aircraft from the first era of flight, where a plane was a rattling engine and some hollow canvas wings. I want to build a setting that captures that feeling of scooting across an vast, boundless sky with the wind in your face and only a propeller keeping you from falling an untold distance.

Anyway here is the rough outline.
> It starts with a low fantasy world
> 'Proper' wizards and non-humans exist, but you're unlikely to see them in your local pub
> suddenly, the 'Great Mistake' occurs
> the world is flooded by a colossal fog-bank, breathing the fog causes hallucinations followed closely by madness and death
> furthermore it is inhabited by an ecosystem hostile to all life, at the top of it's food chain lie colossal air Kraken, none of which has ever been killed by man
> the people of earth flee to the highlands, which remain untouched
> for a long, long while only those very few with Wyverns, Great Eagles and other such beasts can travel between settlements
> eventually colonies stabilize, and brilliant minds start devising their own means of flight
> those that emerge vary greatly by culture and people
> They range from almost weightless gliders, to colossal military airships, to strange contraptions kept aloft by tricks of science
> maybe one day these machines will become commonplace and reliable...
> but now is an age of Exploration and Discovery!
> New industries Rise and Fade
> Heroes emerge, only to Vanish into the Fog
> Locations unseen for Untold ages Await
> Men that will one day be Legends walk the Earth!
> But one must always beware the Horrors Bellow...

To Do
- Writing Settings/Lore
- Ideas for Systems/Homebrew
- Just drop ideas, don't be shy
- Suggest a better title

Try to capture the 'Magic of Flight'!

OP likes planes
This is sorta a repost, Consider this the Actually Coherent Edition

OP, I really suggest checking out the films Castle In The Sky and Nausicaa: Of The Valley Of The Wind because they could both fit perfectly into the setting you're describing. This picture and the one before it are from Castle in The Sky
