>Dat Spirit Cat force
I only have a few DA pieces left for fun games, and most are Spirit cats. Not out of choice, but because all the good shit I blindboxed were SC.

I need to get more clickwarrior stuff.

>>46972287
Whats wrong with DA? The fluff wasn't the greatest, but the game was decent, and the minis were cool as hell

I did it, btg!
I finished my MWDA collection!
It doesn't have everything, nor even an entire army, but it does have every mini I was barely interested.

Here is the last batch, that arrived this week. It came with some faction dice too.
>>
>>46972436
Man, don't look at me, I wanted to play Swordsword.

I regret trading my Panther... First mech I ever got, but all my Spirit cat stuff was stronger. Fucking Clan BS.

Wish they had Grey Death Legion, as thats what I usually play in Battletech.
>>
>>46972405
He probably takes exception to how we arrived at Dark Age. It was not the cleanest move in fluff. I remember how most of the players locally reacted poorly to Devin Stone. But the game was fun and I owe most of my collection to it. Aside from the lack of scale, the minis are very fun.
>>
>>46972543
I feel you. I was raised reading the Steiner/Davion books and Jade Falcon trillogy. There is a lot of fluff to catch up with, and the cannon is frankly monstrous, so the idea of trying to "soft reboot" was admirable, but poorly done.

At least they didnt pull a Disney Star Wars and just wipe it all.

Have you kept up with the fluff? Spirit Cats are in the FWL now, as a member state.

where the Nova Cats should have been all along
>>
Assuming for a moment that the other Clans decided to integrate themselves (somewhat) peacefully into the Inner Sphere (and Smoke Jaguar hadn't been destroyed), where would each Clan likely have ended up?
>>
>>46972631
Thanks for your input, it was very helpful to everyone involved
>>
>>46972592
I've tried both variants. I actually think the TSEMP version is better, since it can shut something down and then swack it with an hit axe on the punch chart, then next turn go for a head shot with the base -4 to hit LVSPL and then another go with the axe or a kick. And if you don't shut something down, your LVSPL ignores most of the interference mod and the axe just does not care.

That said, they're both pretty expensive for a heavy mech that struggles to cause a PSR.

The Spirit Cats a part of a psuedo-clan in the new League known as the "Clan Enclave". They take in survivors of the now defunct Clan Nova Cat.

They also sit on the border with the new Wolf Empire (Clan Wolf moved out of their occupation zone, assisted the Lyrans in destroying one of the FWL successor states, then jumped on the Lyrans afterward, carving a swath out of both the former League and the Commonwealth. Said swath is ruled by a Khan who claims Katrina Steiner-Davion as his parentage.).

Whatever you can get parts for. That's whatever troopers your home state makes or salvage you can pick up from your enemies in common quantity. Just common machines in general will do the job.

You will get something cool and it WILL die on you. Parts and supply is the most important thing as a merc. You don't have a nice cushy state unit with whole dropships of spare parts to count on.
>>

I want them to get torn apart. The Terran Hegemony was a product of unique circumstances, and there is no way a state with 6+ enemy borders should be able to hold together in the Dark Age.

But I want to see the core worlders in the main armies again, just like they were in the WoB militia. I want to see Terrans and Martians and Caphers and New Earthers saying "Not again. Fuck your mechs, fuck your Succession Lords, and fuck your clans!"

>>

Technically yes. The minis are usually bigger than the Battletech ones (bigger scale AND the first sets are generally even bigger). Some of the minis (Uziel, Hellion, Phoenix Hawk L...) are small and could fit on a hex, but every mini is a different matter

Other than that it is very easy to pop them up and glue them again on a hex
>>
>>46973613
That reminds me. Did we ever find out what happened to those suicide Shadow Divisions that got sent to fuck up the homeworlds? Seems like they all got recalled in '68 and showed up back in the sphere around '72.

Would have been cool to see them actually do some damage out in the deep periphery other than taking over old Comstar outposts like Columbus.
>>
>>46973686

>Shadow Divisions

I'm more curious about the ones that were unaccounted for at the end of the Jihad.
>>
>>46973686
They were heading out right as the Jihad kicked off, so they turned around. That's about it.
>>
>>46973659
What about vees, ba, vtols, and infantry?
>>
>>46973757
It took them years to get back. They were basically at the homeworlds when they got the return signal IIRC.

I just can't think of a single raid or anything on the clan worlds.
>>
>>46973848
IIRC they didn't make it too close, given that the Scorps ended up with a bunch of blakist shit they looted from a cache.
>>
>>46973848
I'm pretty sure that they were not almost there when they turned around
>>
>>46973775
BA and infantry all fit in the hex..some of the BA are almost Protomech size, so maybe you want to use them as protos.

VTOL is also okay, they have a plastic stand that fits in any hex. Make sure the hex is heavy enough to support the VTOL

Vehicles suffer from the same problems as mechs. Some are too big, some are too small. Avoid the vehicles released on the first sets and you will be fine.

Alaric Ward claims to have been created from Katherine Steiner-Davion and Vladimir Ward's DNA.

It's actually Katherine Steiner-Davion and Victor Steiner-Davion, a fact that if it ever gets out will end his Khanship and probably his Clan, which had to be riddled with Katherine's pawns to create I'm and get him where he is while covering up his actual parentage.
>>
>>46974524

>WHAT
>THE

Apparently Katrina created the now Khan of Clan Wolf and the Wolf Empire, Alaric Wolf from her own DNA and that of her brother, Victor Steiner Davion.

He's also announced his claim on the Lyran throne given his Steiner heritage (really just an attempt at pacifying Lyrans within his new territory).

Also things get even more hectic in the Dark Age, such as the Federated Suns fighting a disastrous two front affair with the Capellans and Combine (Capellan and Draconis Marches have not only fallen, but have had their capitols seized and their lords killed in one manner or another) or the Lyrans who are facing the aggression of three clans (Wolf, Jade Falcon and Hel's Horses) and giving a poor showing.

Archer is the gold standard as long-range fire support goes. Trebuchet and Griffin are both good medium takes on the concept. In later days, the Bandersnatch is an excellent direct-fire support mech, and the Apollo and Salamander are exceptional LRM throwers

Just like his imaginary friend, sociopathy, multiple rapes, etc. that nobody ever seemed to care much about.
>>
>>46975451

Caleb Davion wasn't exactly a pillar of reasonable thought.

In fact, I believe he's implied to have killed Harrison Davion after learning that it was Julian Davion that was to be the First Prince and not him (Caleb had a crippling condition that would not allow him to pilot a battlemech. This is listed as one of the reasons why Harrison Davion chose Julian over him).

In the present day, many blame Caleb for the dire straights the Suns find themselves in, including the lost off thirteen of it's best regiments on Palmyra due to Combine orbital bombardment (though some lay the blame at the hands of Raven Alliance perfidy as well).

Caleb himself met his end at the controls of his tank after a Combine patrol on Palmyra spotted him and attempted to capture him (they were given orders to capture him alive). Rather than surrender, he kept firing at them (disabling several enemy mechs) till one lashed out in frustration and killed the First Prince.

In addition to numerous mental issues, Caleb was also apparently plagued by visions of a friend speaking to him.

Instructors fucking the sibkos during Warrior training is not child molestation. It's the Clans, their instructors are 24-26 years old. A 25 year old fucking a 17 year old in a society that isn't already ruined by Puritanism is hardly child molestation.

You got a source on a grown warrior fucking a 7 year old? Because that'd be child molestation.

This couldn't be further from the truth.

The truth of the matter is that Danai Liao-Centrella is the child of Daoshen Liao-Centrella and Ilsa Liao-Centrella, both of which are the biological children of Sun-Tzu and Naomi.

>I knew about the huge furfag demographic.... But they made it canon? When? how? It was retconned, right?
According to Handbook:Major Periphery States and other recent sources, there are some 'establishments' and 'performers' in the Magistracy of Canopus who use makeup, prostheses and cybernetics to pull off the furry look for certain clients.
Apart from that? Huge mixup on the OF - details in the spoiler.
Back when they were Warner Doles' BattleTech forums, a guy named Scott Malcolmson ("Calbeck") posted his fan-unit take on the Eridani Light Horse there, and it was made a featured article. Including his self-insert character, who had delusions about being an anthropomorphic unicorn, then 'disappeared' from the BT universe and appeared in another one in his desired anthro form.
When Warner's forum became the OF, the featured articles were declared 'on-line canon'. In the minds of some, this means full-blown furries like Calbeck's SI fursona were canon.
A while later, Calbeck noticed his article being used as on-line canon, bitched that his work had been 'published' without giving his receiving proper credit or payment, then used the whole misunderstanding as grounds to sue FanPro for the IP rights to the whole BT franchise on the basis of 'collaborative work'.
Calbeck's case was laughed out of the courts. He took it higher, and got laughed out again. He took it even HIGHER and was told to fuck off. He then tried to take it to the Supreme Court, who laughed at the idea of even HEARING his suit, much less ruling on it.
There's a link around here somewhere that details the whole tragic affair. I don't have it to hand, though - could some anon please deliver?

Here is a fun dark age version of the above build.

If shields on both arms stack damage absorption on the CT then ditch a DHS and downgrade the VSPL to a normal SPL and slap a small shield on the RA too.

Now that I think about it, small shields seem like a perfect fit for the Banshee.

The XL's not that bad of an idea.

320 XL, 18 DHS, 15 tons of armour, 4 PPCs, 1 ML, and a Guardian ECM Suite (optional switch of one PPC to a C3 Master Computer and 2 MLs or the ML to a C3 Slave) would still have been a badass refit for the 3050s.

It's just the other random shit they add with the 4/6 movement profile that fucks the -9M up.

They weren't even statted until 2008, though they were taken from the videogames like MW4. So game timeline-wise they were only around since about the Fedcom Civil War.

It was stupid to give them an intro date that early, but I guess CGL's reasoning was that people would bitch that a dumbtech solution like a sawed off artillery piece could have been discovered at any time, especially in the darkest days of the the 3rd war when people were in full scrounge mode.

Pic related, I was going to make it a Vedette variant, but after playing it once, I decided it wasn't nearly shit enough for the name. (the MML5 with half-ton ammo bins carries it, really.)

Mine says they can target hexes.
>>
>>46986856
That talks about having to fire them LoS though, not targeting hexes.
>>
>>46986895
*I mean it doesn't say anything about targetting hexes one way or the other, but that it says you can't IDF them.

Means you can't park and hide.
>>
>>46986838
This is a horrifically awkward way of saying that they cannot blind fire at hexes without a spotter the way Mech Mortars and full-sized Artillery can.
It does not change the AE descriptor in the weapon table.
>>
>>46986962
Reading the TaCOps entry, seems they treat them more like fancy autocannon. Even the part about how they're used with ASF's describes them as autocannon.

>Artillery Cannons are classified as ballistic weapons, rather than artillery weapons, and may not be used to deliver Indirect Artillery attacks.

You can't IDF ballistics IRC. The AE just means how the damage is applied. But then it says to use the LRM IDF rules to determine numbers instead of just laying a flat +1 on it, so fuck if I know.

Is epic 40k or armageddon close enough in scale to BattleTech to set up mock battle scenes between the two?
>>
>>46987655
Epic is roughly the same scale as battletech. There's also some old school big kits of battletech mechs that are regular 40K scale.

To expand on that, 1:48 Destroid/Dougram/Super Valk/Armored Valk and 1:72 Valkyrie, Glaug, or Ostall kits are all roughly in 40k-scale.

You can only get the Atlas, Vulture, Mad Cat, Thor, and Loki from the original Armorcast kits, and the last two are vanishingly rare. They also have an LRM-Carrier model tucked into their miscellaneous 28mm section. I think there was also an LE Legionnaire that WizKids put out in collaboration with IWM, and you can still get 28mm Elementals and infantry from them as well. You might be able to work out a bulk deal with them if you're willing to drop a lot of cash, from what I understand they're more willing to bring the old molds out if you're just gonna buy the whole casting run.

There's a pretty active, if extremely small, community of folks who play 28mm BT and crossover games in the central US. Not so much out here on the Left Coast, although I want to change that.

Jesus, I need to take my meds before I keep posting. Here's a 1:72 Glaug for size comparison.

Pretty sure the Thor and Loki are fan kits. There's a number of other fan kits in that scale as well, but in ridiculously rare numbers. The old cartoon toys and the joyride DA toys roughly work as well.

I know the Thor made it to the prototype stage, this was up in their "coming soon" section for like a year before all their licensed stuff got pulled.

Man, I really need to strip and repaint mine. I built it when I was like 12.

>>46988165
I just know that there's fan kits for those chassis, and it seems silly for them to be redone if armorcast already did them. But then I guess there's a fan Wolverine.

See "prototype", above. Even if they did make it onto the open market, they would only have been available for a couple of months. But I also know the Armorcast guys sold off their back-stock on Ebay when the license went under, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's how they got into the wild. Plus, I kinda suspect that CGL wouldn't be putting a garage kit on the cover of one of the official fiction anthologies and/or in the art retrospective (the Thor is on both, and the Loki here is clearly from the same artist as this and the Mad Cat I'm about to post)

If it wasn't for the large amount of terrain that makes sense in it's layout, I'd swear it's a game of 40k.

Har harr. Although let's be honest, who wants yet another 28mm infantry game when you can have your Atlas punching the fuck out of a "Peregrine"-modded 1:144 Zaku.

Lamprey.
>>

It uses the normal spotting rules. Seeing as the weapon deals damage to all the units in a hex, and normal weapons fire let's you shoot at hexes, you can IDF the thing on any hex the spotters can see.

There's another way to look at it for "large scale" kits. If you're going by the ~9-13m canon heights for 'Mechs, for "heroic 28mm" models you're going to want something around 6-10" tall assuming that 30mm=6ft. The Armorcast Atlas is around 9.5" tall, and the Mad Cat ~8.
>>
>>46990478
Well yeah. That's why the old Matchbox robotech 6-8" figures work for the Warhammer and stuff.

Damnit guys, now I want to recreate my favorite merc company at 28MM scale.
I can't afford this kind of want, but it's too cool not to

Disclaimer: I have played neither of these 'Mechs on the table, and I'm just judging them by their loadouts.

Templar has many solid-looking variants, most with a couple hole punchers and some backup weapons. Alt Config A looks very solid, and I looks just plain fun.

Behemoth/Stone Rhino is very good with weapons. 2 Gauss Rifles are pretty brutal, and Clan LPLs are pretty munchy. However, 3 Jump MP is kinda silly, and the Small Pulse Laser looks kinda stupid.
>>
>>46991745
The games dont really translate all that well from the table top. Mechs like the Awesome, which is probably one of the best mechs every design by fasa is just a big fat pile of shitty hitboxes in the video games, and the Nova Cat which is a big fat undersinked slowcooker is an unstoppable pin point accurate yamato cannon with legs in the videogames
