It seems to me that most of /tg/ seems to think that the skills requirements of the job will somehow be gifted to them at the same time as the authority. Most of us lack the necessary quick wittedness to survive as a rogue trader, or the immense savant intelligence of the tech priest. Also, they lack both the general deviousness of mind and the purity of spirit to succeed as the heretic or the pious.
The anons that are the most correct probably are the ones going for space marine. Because all those abilities are gifted to you and all you need is supernatural mental endurance of the horrors of war.
Added to that you have the immense risk and rewards of being a psyker. Everyone seems to experience the risk, but very few experience the reward.
So, my choice would probably be to become a space marine librarian. Probably for a noblebright chapter so i dont have to do psychotic things. I think the Dark Angels will do, as they are one of my favourites. Plus, the primarch is alive!

Truthfully I'd like to be an Eldar ranger travelling the stars, though if I wanted something more tragic and dark I'd like to be a Kabalite trueborn that ends up as a Dracon in an influential kabal.
But the idea of being an Eldar ranger sounds like the most romantic and adventurous things in 40K. All the exotic planets you could visit, the ancient civilizations to explore, the noble goal of returning to your Craftworld when it calls you home, exploring the reaches of realspace and the Webway as you take in the galaxy. Sure, there's a lot of fighting, but there'd also be a lot of downtime to relax on a remote planet watching an alien sun set, longrifle cradled in one arm and helmet off to feel the rays on your face.

It is literally the complete opposite of the life I live. I choose not to do any sort of drugs, nor do I drink alcohol, simply because of the influence it had on me in my childhood. If I lived in the 40k universe, though, I'd go balls out with it simply because Slaanesh would reward me doing so. He would amp up the experience to actually be worth it.
Not just that, though. Since I am a writer and a bit of a narcissist, he/she/it would reward me with gifts that I'd actually WANT. Sexually, aesthetically, and artistically he/she/it would help me strive to the utmost, and break it.
