I'm planning on converting my Death Korp of Krieg army to a different ww1 inspired nation army
and I came across some Sikh heads from Perry for cheap
https://www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?products_id=2881

I want to make a ww1 sikh regiment themed IG army, how do you guys think it'll look? (just imagine those heads on DKOK bodies)
>>
heads alone won't do, you would also need many pairs of squatting bare bottomed legs
>>
Just so you know, The BIA forces were generally recruited from populations that were considered martial. A lot of the Punjabi regiments were not sikhs per se but rather punjabis. Same with the Jats, Rajputs and the gurkhas.
>>
DKUK minis are based on Germans, so it kinda falls flat giving them British Empire heads.
>>
Sikh's didn't do the whole great coat thing, so IMHO I'd go with Cadian bodies, but it's your army. Mite be cool.

This brings up one point though, GW or FW needs to make an IG regiment that does the whole bound lower leg thing. Suddenly you got your WW1 armies AND WW2 IJA, the latter of which I really fits the dying for the god emperor bill.
>>
>>46876473
Just pretend they are based of the Indische legion. WW2 jerry bodies and turbaned heads.

>DKUK minis are based on Germans
we had this discussion already

their uniform is french
their gas masks are british
their helmets are german with a hint of french
>>
>>46876493
it doesn't really matter. The germans outfitted a small unit of indians including sikhs

>>
>>46876422

I like the idea, but don't quite get how the heads will fit? You mean just replacing the helmets with turbans, so the gas masks stay in place, or remodelling the entire respirator system with greenstuff?

Also, bear in the mind that the WWI saw an end to the British fashion for beards and moustaches partly because the airtight seal a gas mask forms around the mouth and nose wouldn't work with facial hair. It might be hard to work that out for your regiment.

To be honest, I'm more interested in the fluff: do they come from a deathworld populated with vastly exaggerated Indian animals (leopards, tigers, cobras, pythons, etc)?
>>
>>46876505
But he is right, they're a mashup of every WW1 nation on the western front.

This was a major problem for the revolutionary guard in the Iran-Iraq war because real muslims have big bushy beards, and Iraqi's love them some gas.

A forgeworld campaign based on the Iran-Iraq war would be the shit.

It's a lovely idea, and I think it would look very nice. Though personally, I think Cadians might work a bit better and be considerably cheaper, the DKOK stuff would look pretty darn good too. Post pics when you're done!

Its more of me removing the DKOK heads altogether replacing them with the sikh heads(so no gas masks)

Originally I was going to do the Early War French with the kepi heads until I came across the sikh heads(which I didn't even know Perry made)

The reason why I'm using DKOk models is because, I got them cheap from the Gorgon infantry squads(you can find them from a *ahem* Russian seller on ebay) and I like the double breasted trench coat

But to answer your question on their origin, They are from a semi civilized world where the entire population lives overcrowded along the temperate edges of the planet's equator; go too far north and you'll be met with dry and yet frigid and icy mountain ranges where the air is thin and the giants roam

go too far south and it'll be a bunch of jungles where everything wants to eat you

The planet's main exports are, curry spices, elite turban wearing soldiers, indentured labour, potential admech tech preist disciples, exotic and animal pelts

The soldiers of the regiment train mainly in the cold and frigid north hence why their wear their great coats
>>
>>46876785
Only thing you have to watch out for is the gas mask bag looking potentially weird once you swap the heads.

Not to mention removing the tube in the first place, since it might be covering details.

Honestly I'm surprised GW doesn't have a background regiment already inspired by the knowledge of such units from the world wars, just going down to the local library and taking out a book so you can crib some details of their warrior saint culture from and some of their symbology, bobs your uncle.

Somewhat related to the topic, you do get regiments of Imperial Guardsmen that have stuff like the whole unit in Carapace right? How cool would it be to have an entire army of nobleman 'knights' with lasguns (To be totally honest think this might have been done in one of the Ghosts novels, but that unit had a samurai aesthetic in bright scarlet armour and the ghosts had to tell them to sit tight and not be stupid while they infiltrated across no man's land by using their camo cloaks and alot of mud)

The heads on dkok are molded on. There not a separate piece. Your going to have to do a lot of careful cutting and filing. Your have to use a lot of green stuff to. Honestly it seems like a waste to use dkok models for this.
>>
>>46877593

>>46879598
No, but I asked if there's something stopping them from having headgear over the turban. I won't make a big deal out of not wearing the funny hat (I mean, if you hate the queen you hate the queen, I understand that), but like there are headgear that are beneficial to your health, like helmets in combat.

>Well, for their sake I hope they make turbans out of kevlar, because respect doesn't stop a piece of shrapnel from scalping you in the field.

A patka is a common form of Dastaar. There is also a helmet also known as the Patka that can be worn on top.
>>
>>46879996
If anything, it just means they don't suffer any loss of morale from the lack of loo, cause they'll just poo

>>46878547
They would have to have Rough Riders as part of their regiment as well, though would their steeds be just wellbred horses or would it be something mostly mechanical or biologically enhanced specially to their nobleman expectations?

What if they just rode motorcycles but still used some sort of fancy lances, wait are power-lances a thing outside of specific eldar jetbikers.
>>
>>46880143
Honestly these barely even look like guardsmen anymore, it almost seems like they were designed for a different wargame entirely.
>>
>>46880230
they are an elite choice, but I agree 100% with you. If you were to paint them metal and add/remove a few bits and bobs, then they could look pretty medieval.
>>
This reminds me of one of my Only War homebrew regiments. No stats right now, but as far as fluff goes, they're basically the same as OP's but an armored regiment. They have slightly more vanquishers than normal, and paint tusks on their Russes.

Has anybody made any armies based on this list? Sure I like the default IG, but there has to be some variety.
>>
>>46876422
I've actually bought those heads just a week ago for an Indian Bolt Action army. They're good, but from my memory of 40k minis, way too fucking small.
They're more expensive and have less variety, but Warlord also do Sikh heads and I reckon they would look a lot better on 40k minis- I bought the Warlord heads too and they would look a lot better proptioned on IG models.

Drawn inspiration from the list, certainly.
But when you realize conversions on every fig in the army, you have attained a level of "your dudes" that implies at least a bit of fluff commitment, so you'd tweak at least some bits of the example to fit your vision.
