Malifaux thread?

It's insanely popular at my store and I'm just getting into it. Wouldn't mind some discussion.

Playing Gremlins at the moment but tempted to change faction to Guild. Want something reliable. Problem is factions lack identity outside of Gremlins, they're all single crews and masters who don't really blend into 1 whole.
>>
I play Outcasts.

What's this "faction identity" you're talking about?
>>
I do like that faction theme doesn't stranglehold the variety, like many games do. There's still strong themes for what makes the faction, but its not like Warmahordes, where a factions theme is beaten over the players' heads, like how every Khador caster is "For Motherland Russia!"
>>
Thinking of getting Ressers or Neverborn. Unless I go for the box set. No one I know plays, so it might be worth it to drag friends in.
>>
>>46868102
It's picking up steam fast as it's super cheap to get into.
>>
>Problem is factions lack identity outside of Gremlins, they're all single crews and masters who don't really blend into 1 whole.

I'd say only really Arcanists and Outcats suffer from this, which is sort of the whole point of the latter.

If you want crews that blend well together you want Ressers. As a faction they have huge thematic crossover with each other on several different pivots such as poison usage or minion types.

>>

Only commenting with what I have experience with.

Aionius is solid against anyone that buries their own models. Also great against crews that sling magic. He can also bounce scheme markers around or push all of yours at once.

Taelor is obviously good against constructs, but she's really only a beatstick.

Nyx likes to tell people "No, and fuck off", and can give your crew some resistance to pulses, auras, and blasts with his upgrade.

Adding to this, does anyone have pdfs of the older books?

I've been trying to catch up but the RPG book and rulebooks keep referencing things that happened in previous books (Kythera, Grave Spirit, Seamus antics, tyrants etc) but I have no idea what any of it is.
>>
How does Tara...work?

I got her for my Ressers because I wanted to expand into Outcasts after I finished collecting the current Resser releases but it seems like she prefers all the Void things and Death Marshals.

She just seems like a "gimmik" caster to me. I really want to use her but I'm not sure what kind of game she plays.

Tara has a pretty good Killjoy/other beatstick delivery game with her Obliteration Symbiote upgrade.

If that's not your style, get good at using Temporal Shift. In Ressers, you'll want a couple Belles to drag in a weak or already activated model so you can pop Shift and make all your important guys fast.

And the Dead of Winter upgrade that lets her bring Death Marshals is pretty awesome too, especially if you're hiring Hannah so she can copy Pine Box at Wp 8.

Tara is kind of a gimmick caster, but her gimmick is AP advantage. Make your guys fast, make enemies that have already activated fast and then kill them before the next turn, or bury models that haven't activated to deny your opponent their AP. Burying scheme or objective runners on a crucial turn is pretty brutal too.

In Ressers you also have Belles to move enemies out of position and make them waste AP walking back, and in Outcasts you can bring the Wretch + rats to out-activate your opponent on top of your AP shenanigans.

Either way, the game plan (if you're not Killjoy bombing) is to basically nickel and dime your opponent out. She doesn't do anything super flashy, but every extra AP you get and every AP they lose makes your objectives easier and theirs harder.
>>
I currently have Ma, Somer and Ophellia but I'm drawn way more to guild than Gremlins. I want something that's more reliable and just blunt as that suits my playing style.

The problem is Guild masters lack well... anything but gimmicks. the shooty one, the smashy one, the magic one. It's rather shallow and other than McCabe there isn't a whole heap I'm interested in, but really like the rest of the faction.

As an ex warmachine player, I'm trying to find something similiar to say Styker. Throws out a little support/passive supports, but can dish out some decent damage here and there.
>>
Hi.

I'm curious in starting Malifaux. There's interest in my town, so I might join.

Are showgirls good? Was thinking of a somewhat Emilie Autumn themed army.

What would be a good Showgirl list?

Is showgirl starterbox + angelica (+ maybe coryphee duet) a good start/list?
>>
>>46877791

Also, since we need more painted models in this thread, my nephilims.

>>46877882
Mcmourning? He has a bit of support in guild and can dish out damage.
>>
>>46877883
Yes. Definetely get the Coryphees, Angelica can wait. Anyway, they're good, but they are very...non-confrontational. Focus on making schemes above all else.

Colette is fantastic. She can be great at schemes, support, she's super mobile, slippery, and is just good all around.

Her crew box, Angelica, Coryphee, a beat stick like Howard, and maybe some December acolytes is a solid pool.
>>
>>46877882
Perdita, Sonnia, and Lady J are generally murder machines, but they have their tricks. Dita can Obey models and has the crazy family mobility/synergy, Sonnia can create terrain, make new models, turn off casters, and totally rewrites the rules for blasts and LoS. Lady J has the most basic toolbox, just a big sword and cover generation, but her complexity comes more from using her as a control/area denial piece since nobody wants none of that.

McCabe is my current favorite for the speed and utility his upgrade tossing provides.

McMourning is great for doing good damage, buffing some models, and limited poison shenanigans. Like a good doctor he's a scalpel instead of a hammer.

Hoffman is support. He makes his stuff better, tougher, faster, and stronger.

Lucius is weird. He's supposed to be an Obey type, trading AP for others. He's a bit card intensive, but he's quite hard to get to and has a great hiring pool. Best fluff, best model, really rewarding to win with.

This is as opposed to the gremlin staple of "do all the damage with a minor and easily remedied 'drawback'"
>>
>>46878182
What other models are "Einharjer"? It seems like this leader will end up having an upgrade that involves them somehow.
>>
>>46878425

Same here Anon. Ive gone so far as to ply my trade at redoing the ancient spread of terrain they have available to fit anything people will throw models onto.
>>
>>46878888
None so far that I know of.
>>
>>46878748
I like Lucius and McCabe. Both play sort of like a warmachine caster and that's basically what I'm looking for. Question is, do I start another Malifaux crew or pick up a guildball starter set as that's also taking off.
>>
>>46878888
Apparently that's gonna be her whole crew, a load of living einharjers.
>>
>>46879335
That is a tough one. As a Henchman I'm obviously biased, but I have heard good things about Guild Ball. If there was a group here I'd probably play.

He's not as good as McTavich. His Melee deals no direct damage and is reliant on getting the right suits to set up for a shotgun blast. As a gremlin player, I'd just stick a skeeter on him and he's be locked down. He looks good on paper because you're looking at his ability to discard a card for three shotgun attacks that will deal a minimum of 9 damage (providing that you hit with them all). In this scenario, you'd have to already have him in place before he activates, which is difficult with so many models having repositioning shenannigans, then either hope they aren't in cover or that you have a ram in hand that you won't need for later to get rid of the cover for the turn. It is far more likely that he will simply move and shoot, getting one good hit in before being swarmed by cheaper models in melee.

I literally just bought some death marshals, knowing nothing about the game, because I thought they were cool. Since then, I've heard the game is pretty fun and inexpensive to get into. Are the death marshals actually any good?
>>
>>46896042
Yes. Tara likes them as do most Guild masters.
>>
>>46891624
His cigar can also just straight disengage him with a crow, or set up a shotgun attack with Blown Back. That's really handy for, say, an Obey action + Rapid Fire or if you've got a fast AP from Tara or Oathbreaker. At 2 AP his attacks aren't nearly as exciting, though.

Honestly, though, his attack actions are the least interesting part about him.

Blow It To Hell and Life of Crime are both rather strong abilities that give you a reason to not just take Alyce or Laz all the time. He seems pretty well designed, overall. He's not going to be an auto-include, but he's got tricks that will sometimes make him the better model.

Ha.
Haha.
Hahahaha.
Malifaux is the most disgustingly intimidating game entry ever.
I just got into it, and nearly didn't bother [even after getting crazily hyped about it] when I heard a few podcasts with top tournament players saying they regularly ran out of time and forgot rules because there's so much to keep track of.
As it is, I struggle to see how much further/longer the game can keep expanding before it completely collapses under all these moving parts.

Despite this, still one of the games I'm most excited about getting into.
>>
>>46901943
I've started Malifaux and Infinity almost at the same time. 2007 and 2009, or whaever their release dates were. I dropped both around 2012. The second I saw the new rulebook for infinity, with sixty barely-different ammo types, I ran the fuck away and never looked back.
>>
>>46901943
Malifaux crews are 5-10 models. You can have a small number of complex models and still have things run smoothly. If you know your crew you will know your triggers and outside of your master most of them will share common triggers. i.e. Bayou two card or critical rams.

Maybe you should go take a look at 40k's 2nd edition and game size. We're talking 100 models a side with rules comparable to malifaux's complexity within each unit.
>>

>>46901686
>so many super specific rules

>>
>>46867122
I play the Friekorps. I love their basic fluff, where they are a unit, each korpsmen is not just another warm body in the press, but a person, well respected by their peers.

Also being immune to Aura/aoe is pretty nice.
>>
What's Zordia's ties to the Gremlins aside from the fact she lives in the swamp? She seems really neat but I can't wrap my head around it.
>>
>>46902458
It's basically that. She's powerful and lives in the swamp, so she can usually convince Gremlins and other bayou denizens to do her a solid in exchange for past/future favors.
>>
>>46902538
I imagine she's gotta be pretty scary to them also. Does the fiction touch on their relationship at all?
>>
>>46902583
Not really. The dual-faction thing was only added with 2nd edition, though even in 1st edition she could always take Gremlins due to their low WP.

The only non-neverborn relationship they've touched on for Zoraida is her and Leveticus (who are hinted to have had a thing at some point).

>who are hinted to have had a thing at some point
That is the scariest bit of malifaux fiction I have ever read. Might have been like two damp leather bags slapping against one another.
>>
>>46902583
The main book has her bringing together the Gremlin masters to work towards a common goal. Fun story.
>>
>>46902101
For a game with such low model count, it really does take pretty long time. Within our group games between somewhat seasoned players tend to take 3 hours minimum with Malifaux, Infinity somewhere around two hours and EDEN one hour. It became a trend where we could start to set up our EDEN game when other couple was still deploying their forces for Malifaux and finish our whole game before the Mali -crew has completed their first turn.
>>
>>46902720
Especially because they made a point of noting that Leveticus didn't recognize her in her Avatar form. Zoraida's avatar form is her but younger.
>>

Fortify the Spirit is very useful. Yan Lo has a pedestrian Df and Wp 5, getting to add your Chi to that makes him a lot more durable.

I'd almost never hire Ashigaru. If that's all you have, so be it, but they're better to be summoned by Toshiro. Instead, grab Toshiro w/ Command the Grave.

Yin is fucking amazing, grab her ASAP.
>>
>>46902742
I'm bit shocked. My Malifaux games tend to last 45min to an hour at 35-45stone. Meanwhile, as everyone embraced the Poland in infinity, games take upward of 2hrs.
>>
>>46902792
Different guy, but at my store we frequently get sidetracked or start chatting mid-game.
>>
>>46902767
This is what I have bought for the moment and I absolutely loathe Yins model.
Toshiro will get added at some point since he is amazing.
Chiaki is only there to help fill out points and do some support.
Ashigaru and Komainu are what I currently own. And I'll probably field what I like the look of and fits my aesthetics instead of what's best.

What upgrades would make Izamu and Yan Lo the best?
>>
>>46902708
It's hard to say how it would work, because you are supposed to build your list after choosing schemes. Keep that in mind.

I suggest getting Toshiro and some punk zombies. Toshiro can summon Ashigaru, gives everyone around + flip to attacks, give out fast and pushes your dudes. Also, he is quite durable. In the mean time punk zombies do gods work slicing everything around.

And remember. Don't hire, what you can summon.
>>
>>46902831
Izamu: Recalled Training for TT.
>>
>>46902868
Okay! I have NO collection to speak of since the Yan Lo crew box, Komainu and Izamu are the first things Malifaux I've bought.

Good point about the Ashigaru!
Can TT Yan Lo field Punk Zombies?

What's on the next purchase list are:
Toshiro
Tengu

I read about some Wastral sacrifice trick to score some Chi on Yan Lo and to creata an Ashigaru so I'll probably get Wastrals. They are only aviable in a crew box correct?
>>
>>46902961
If you bring Toshiro you can bring like four punk zombies. It's one of his rules.
>>
>>46902961
He can't. You need Toshiro who unlocks them for you.
>>
>>46902742
My first game took an hour with my opponent explaining the rules to me as we went. How fucking retarded are you that it takes 3 hours to play Malifaux? Stick to 40k where you just push models at each other and count any dice above 3.

>>46902809
That's not the game then, that's you not focusing on it.
>>
>>46903081
Yep. We're casual as fuck (again, i'm a different guy from the original.)
>>

>>
>>46903006
>>46903021
Okay! Cool!
Punk Zombies and Toshiro and Tengu next!
>>
>>46903302
If you're purchasing Yan Lo to start, I'd recommend getting the Nicodem box, Open Graves. It has punk zombies and a good master for if you want to start splashing Ressers too (this is how it all starts).
>>
>>46903251
>Bitch about a game being slow
>Get corrected
>G-g-go back to warmachine!

Fucking Tumblrinas. Nice reply, did it take you 20 minutes to type it?
>>
>>46903431
But I want Ten Thunders. The only Resser that is interesting is Yan Lo. Then again Izamu with Decaying Aura or whatever seems nasty as hell.
And Yan li can use Komainu as retainers in Ressers. Seems I picked a good start.
>>
>>46900823
Yes, more delicious Indians.
Now make some women. Malifaux confirmed for top tier proxy/conversion material.
>>
>>46903526
You realize you're arguing with several persons, right? And as >>46902742, I don't know why their games tend to took so long. Perhaps they like to practice with several crews instead of honing their skill with single master and learning its quirks inside out. And as >>46902809 stated, games, especially outside tournaments or other time limits, often tend to at least slightly drawn out because people like to socialize during their free time activities. And I also agree with >>46903251, shitlord.
>>
>>46902792
>My Malifaux games tend to last 45min to an hour at 35-45stone.
Really?
I've heard closer to two hours, up to three, quoted by most.
I suppose there is a jump in complexity from 35ss to 50ss, but surely not twice as long.

Do you know your crews inside out?
Have a semi-set list?
Or just play simple/fast?
>>
>>46903689
>shitlord
>not using booger baron
Plebian
>>
>>46903807
>simple
What?
I'm not that guy, but if you bother to learn your crew (memorising stat cards), the pace picks up considerably. You're still limited by the opponent and their intents, so if there is talking, referencing for every flip, and no general game plan before setup, all that is going to affect playtime.
>>
>>46903921
Simple =/= stupid.
The most time-consuming aspect is working out and setting up the appropriate trick to spring this/next turn, or what's likely about to happen and how to soak/redirect it, based in oncomplete information.
If everyone habitually plays their full faction, or a good chunk of it, then that's forty or so cards you have to know acceptably well to play with a decent degree of complexity.
>>
>>46904085
I agree, though I don't understand it in this context. Whatever is seen as a simple play seem more bound to the experience level of the viewer that time it takes to think/act it.
It's going to be different for most people, but I'd say the most time consuming is calculation. Seems like most people around here are familiar enough with the models to instead focus on running multiple strategies while adjusting for state changes.
That's a part of the game, people choosing to not learn units is all kinds of bad (longer games, fewer games, eating the set timer, wanting reversals, sour grapes)
>>
>>46903807
We tend to pick from limited crop of masters, and most tend to pick fairly heavy lists, so very few minion waves to deal with.
>>
>>46905315
Sounds like a really fun environment, like no one is powergaming. Just having epic clashes in between scheme running.
>>
>>46905785
Naw, it's still pretty competitive, just...self-containing. Pandora vs Colette all the time is just awful.
>>
>>46905315
This is what I thought must be happening - the earlier post about three hour games is probably more common with great big local scenes/metas featuring high-rank players (do y'all rank?) with huge hiring pools and no fear of mixing up new crews.
>>
>>46905968
Ranking is absolutely disgusting.

Joking aside, we've all been through the hyper-competitive phase, and we're all done with it.
>>
What miniatures fit with the puppet wars miniatures? I want to do puppet Guild and I'm willing to convert some but wouldn't mind some puppet dogs I could buy.

Puppet wars has
Justice
3x Executioner
3x Death Marshal
3x Austringer

Where do I go from here to make a cool army?
>>
>>46903546

How do you feel about Kirai?

I know you aren't big on Ressers, but she's still somewhat in theme and her Onryo are retainers that can work with TT Yan.

Plus she plays well with some old his thematic crew, especially Izamu.
>>
>>46906957

Might just be easy to use Wicked Dolls as a base and give them some accessories.
>>
>>46907386
I'm trying to figure out if it would be easier to convert puppet wars non-guild minis, sculpt and 3D print my own or use those and sculpt details on them.

I'd want to run Lucius and McCabe. Both use similiar troops at least.
>>
>>46907325
Hmm. I'm not a fan of Ressers due to playstyle mostly. Summoning a wall of flesh is not something I fancy, which is why Yan Lo works because hes got a cool theme and can get stuck in after getting som Ascendant upgrades.
While the models are cool Ressers in general doesn't seem like something I'd enjoy.

I was looking at Shenlong, McCabe or Misaki for next crew box.
>>
>>46907554

That's fair. She does do a lot of summoning, so if you hate that she's a poor choice.

Shenlong isn't a bad box to pick up since Sensei Yu is an amazing support piece.
>>
>>46907554
I dig you man. I'm a resser player myself and I can't into summoning. I tried Nico, but he's boring for me. I mean, he's good at what he's doing but that doesn't fit my style at all. Now it's only Seamus and McMourning.

>>
Is Lucius any good? He's the only master I like the look of.
>>
>>46913271
Wow, the only? And is that the plastic, metal, or both? He seems to be one many people go for initially.
From what I've seen he is mid to low tier under most circumstances as he tends to use his units as resources and doesn't have a means to easily replace them (but that will soon change with things like the changelings). Lucius is powerful, just not nearly as straight forward as the others and can be quite hard to maximize. He mainly stays out of combat, preferring to force additional actions out of his minions and drain their life for more potential power. He can hire guardsmen and mimics regardless of declared faction (if you take the upgrade which allows it, and why wouldn't you?) And tends to be less effective in combat heavy strategies.
Given the sheer amount of variety, most matchups are 'balanced' simply because determining optimal decisions isn't practical, so it comes down to familiarity with units and sound tactics. Pick you you think is cool and give it a go.
>>
I dread painting my minis as plastic is never as easy to strip. Jelly of these guys skill.
>>
>>46915196

It's more dependent on your primer than anything.

I've stripped several plastic Malifaux minis just fine. Maybe one day I'll get one of my Nurses to look the way I want her to.

>>46881588
As long as they aren't insular dicks you're super lucky to have that sort of insight teaching you.

They likely don't like stomping noobs any more than you like being stomped so they'll probably help you learn.
>>
>>46896042
Yep. It's usually a solid choice to put one with most masters.

And as has been said you can use them in ressers with tara which means you can lure with rotten belles to lock shit in their coffins.
>>
>>46898353
The kirai stuff from ressers can synergize fairly well with some of that stuff.
>>
>>46902720
>>46902763
>Mechanical death hand fisting...
>>
>>46905109
I tend to work out my whole game plan right a scheme picking and it doesn't need to change much depending on what my opponent does unless they are fairly skilled or see what I'm doing.

So most of my activeations take maybe a minute. But I usually don't kill much. I just lock it down or tar pit so I can do my thing.

However I do teach as many people as I can and those games often go for about 2 hours for just a 35ss crew even with me going fast.

Assuming nothing dies a game with 5 models a side taking 2 minutes an activation will run about an hour fourty mins plus set up.
As soon as you add non through understanding of rules/no plan commitment it's going to take longer.
>>
>>46909838

As stated previously in the thread I'm all about the Ten Thunders. Punk Zombies and Toshiro not withstanding.

Regarding Punk Zombies, 2 seems like a good number. More or less of them?
>>
>>46916312
Yeah I hadn't hit that bit yet, sorry.

I believe there's 3 in the box anyway. 2 should serve fairly well. They aren't the cheapest basic guys around though.

I'm much more learned on the ressers than what you'll have available on TT. Toshiro can summon those construct dogs I think so if you don't own any of those they'd be a good purchase so you have optons.

It's always good to buy all your summon options so you're not hamstrung when you play. You did mention you aren't bog on summoning though.
>>
>>46916425
Having Toshiro Summon, Ashigaru and Komainu is from what I have understood not as summoning intense as playing pure Ressers where you summon stupid amounts of models from markers and drown your opponent in corpses.

What I like about Ten Thunders is the fact that they mostly seem very aggressive and have alot of cool minis.

The group I'm in would be almost entirely Arcanists/Ten Thunders.

Karin Yilditz: Academic-focused melee guy. Living + Construct with huge armour, defensive buffs for allies, without many tricks to help get about. One Melee attack with high damage, a melee range cast with low damage but very high burning. Loyal member of the M&SU, very idealistic. Is nearly as much metal as flesh these days but she's handling it a lot better than most Steamborgs.

Iris Markova: Doctor-The Doctoring. She puts people around her under her care, making them harder to kill off and throws out a heap of healing and condition removal. She's also a good shot with a rifle and decently fast. She wants to be nowhere near the melee though. She's a member of the Foundry and one of the resident doctors who helps when people lose a limb and need a metal one.

Wei Tian: A traveling mercenary monk of the Fermented River. He gets real drunk and punches things to death. Loves his poison condition and between his high natural speed and 1 AP charges he's able to be wherever the hell he wants to be on the battlefield most of the time. Nowhere near as damaging as Karin's punches but mobility and 'Having a Def higher than 4' does a lot. He's a mercenary, happy if he's getting paid or drinking.

Pic related: Karin's getting to make doing this to notable enemies a habit. She's so far evaporated two major foes due to 'Severe Crit - Obliterated' results.
>>
>>46873676
Your henchman tournament will be henchman hardcore. Only scheme, assassinate. Only strategy: Turf War.
>>
>>46916635
Only a couple of resser masters are the drown in models types.

Nicodem is the main zombie spewer.
Molly os also very summony.
Kirai does a lot of summoning but it's usually used more to be dynamic and move suff around rather than drown stuff.
Seamus has only minor summon but is mostly a really hard to kill shooty nightmare.
McMorning is a poison stacker with tough minions.
Tara is about fast and slow manipulation and burying anything you don't like.

I'm sure I've forgotten something but point being only 2 are really the summon and drown type with most having a single summon power to add some flexibility.

Obviously play what you like. But I highly recommend playing with all sorts of stuff to get a good feel for the whole game (always better to borrow/proxy for that though. Unless your a madman like me and buy everything.) Ten thunders and gremlins are what I'm mostly missing now as they're probably the newest.

True. Coming from Infinity I know this to be true, especially looking at models across the board and go "I wan't to be able to do that!" instead of finding a good counter.

Mostly my aversion to Ressers is how they look, Punk Zombies and the Ancestor models are basically the only things I like from them. I'm more into Ten Thunders and Neverborn (the nightmare fuel stuff, not the demons) aesthetics.

I'll probably proxy and play or borrow models from the local group but I have a hard time buying minis I don't like the look of, regardless how good they might be on the table.
>>
>>46917039
And that's totally personal. I was put off by ressers at first as well and played a bunch of guild and arcanists.
Then Kirai and Molly came along and ressers became my main. I do use mostly the older metals though, which I think are way better for the kirai stuff.

Gotta play what you love. I'm fortunate/cursed enough to like almost everything in the game. I absolutely love the ten thunders stuff as well but I'm only just chipping into that collection through their resser synergies.
Oh were I made of money...
>>
What sort of group does Misaki build?

I'm leaning toward Outcasts.
>>
>>46917096
Yeah. As it looks now I'll try Yan Lo out in both factions. Ressers has from what I can see better upgrades for Izamu at least and since he is my absolute favourite I'm bound to test both factions out, and as of yet I haven't bought anything Yan Lo can't use in both factions.

Mostly it's the masters I dislike the look of. Kirai is the second best looking master imo and she's just okay.

But Punk Zombies are the only Resser model that Yan Lo can use in TT thats worth bringing correct?
>>
>>46917395

Lynch's 'bouncing' aces for suits just look absolutely disgusting, from a few batreps I've seen.
And it seems like something that's only going to get worse as the game keeps expanding, though that's hardly a Lynch-specific problem.

Is anyone else a little disappointed with the next round of leaked updates?
It sort of feels like Wyrd are starting to homogenise their factions - giving Guild a scheme manipulator, adding more guns to Ressurs, that sort of thing.
If every faction ends up with multiple models able to cover every available niche, then I think some of the individual play-flavour will start seeping away.
Are my concerns valid, anons?
>>
>>46922435

Sadly I've played that one already so I already know all the spoilers. Best of luck though.
>>
>>46922468
Thanks man wish you the best
>>
>>46922444

On the other hand: Not having a Scheme Manipulator makes Guild not really able to interact with some mission objectives and makes them a bit predictable.

While it will reduce the extreme differences I don't think it will make the factions all play the same or be less fun.

I've picked up a few models from Hasslefree Miniatures because I want to keep my current Smoke & Mirrors all-girls, all-flowing skirts theme running.
Pic related is the first.

>>46922493
But then Guild players should be choosing schemes to their strengths, in the knowledge that their opponents will be picking to their own, no?

It just seems odd that you'd go to the trouble of building a faction style (like blunt force trauma for Guild) or carving a playstyle niche for Colette or Yan-Lo (if that's the right 10T master) and then chopping all that up again so that everyone has similar toys to play with.

Though as you say, from listening to podcasts it does sound like there are a few factions and good large handful of masters that will never choose certain schemes.
Whether that's a problem is something else.
>>
>>46922642
That is probably going to be an Oxfordian Mage, or at least that was how I justified the purchase to myself.

Pic related might be a Freikorp Trapper, or Hans.
I've not really decided, just impulse-bought it because you don't see all that many models with the right kind of flowing skirts and such from small-company manufacturers.
I'm probably going to file down the ridiculous goggles quite a bit.
>>
>>46922642

>But then Guild players should be choosing schemes to their strengths, in the knowledge that their opponents will be picking to their own, no?

It makes the faction kinda predictable though. It becomes much easier to guess what schemes they'll pick.
>>
>>46922690
Also, don't spend too much time on Hasslefree Minis' site if there's any risk your girlfriend/mother/child might enter the room - I suspect the main man Kev has rather too much time on his hands, and tits on his mind.

I'm past the half way point with painting up my dreamer crew now, i'm so happy.
just got Lelu and Lilitu, Chompy (I have no idea what colour to paint him, i've tried twice already and it just ended up in paint stripper), an alp, one insidious madness and two stitched to get done before the start of july.
Anyone else painting up anything interesting atm?

“There is another matter,” Misaki nodded. “Something
that we had not foreseen. A great darkness is approaching,
Mei Feng. We are, all of us, at risk.”
“Of what?”
“Annihilation.”
Before the rail worker could query this, the black figure
slipped into the lantern light once more. Misaki nodded
to admit the second visitor.
Another two black-clothed shapes materialized out of
the gloom, their faces covered by dull steel masks, short
straight-bladed swords on their backs. Between them was
a tall man in a dapper silver-grey suit, top hat and spats.
He seemed surprisingly nonchalant about being led to
a clandestine meeting by three sword-wielding assassins
and smiled in a disarming manner at the two women.
“Good evening,” he said as he reached the table,
promptly pulling out the third chair and settling himself
without waiting for permission.
Mei Feng began to rise with her fists balled at this breach
of etiquette but Misaki stopped her with a subtle gesture
and offered the new guest a tiny smile.
“Tea, Mr. Lynch?”
“That’s very kind of you, Miss..?” He trailed off.
Misaki took her time with filling a third saucer and
passing it to the club owner. She made no effort to
complete his sentence.
When Jakob received the shallow receptacle, he lifted
it between wool-gloved finger and thumb. “Cheers,” he
said, and slurped it down. “Mmm. Delicious.”
"More?"
“Please.”
Misaki re-filled the saucer.
“While this tea is excellent, and it really isn’t my place
to complain about having the company of two such
beautiful ladies,” he said, “I wonder if it might be too
much to ask why I am here? The gentlemen behind me
were very helpful in arranging my transport, but, not
much in the way of conversationalists.”
“Information, Mr. Lynch,” Misaki said.
“Ah!” Jakob slurped down his tea. “The currency of
nation builders, eh?”
“Quite so,” Misaki smiled her tiny smile again. “More?”
>>
>>46922987
“Oh, please. This really is fabulous tea.”
“It is an old family recipe,” Misaki said. “The gyokuro
is shaded from the sun before being picked during the
first round of the harvest. This helps to keep the flavor
pure.”
‘Well, it certainly shows,’ Jakob grinned.
Misaki replaced the teapot and settled back in her chair.
“So, information?” he prompted.
“Indeed.”
“And just what is it that you’d like me to tell you?” he
asked.
“Nothing,” said a disembodied voice.
Jakob twisted around in his chair, startled, but the three
assassins behind him were motionless and it was evident
that none of them had spoken.
“The information we seek is not held by you,” the voice
continued, “but that which dwells within you.”
A shape was beginning to manifest itself at the edge of
the lantern light. As Misaki watched, a human silhouette
swam into view as if surfacing from a great depth. It wore
an ancient and threadbare hakama, with an overlong
green silk montsuki. The face of this apparition was
every bit as worn as its costume and though its pate
was balding, it sported huge grey-haired eyebrows and
whiskers.
“My lord Yan-Lo,” Mei Feng whispered and pushed
away from the table to drop to one knee. Behind her
the assassins did likewise. Misaki remained in her seat as
befitted the daughter of the Oyuban, but she bowed her
head respectfully.
The old man held a long iron staff whose head jangled
with iron hoops but neither the staff nor his feet touched
the warehouse floor. Instead he drifted slowly, his robes
and hair stirred by unseen currents.
“It is the other with which I wish to speak,” said Yan-Lo.
Jakob smiled and shrugged his shoulders. “I’m not sure
I understand.”
“I see through you, Jakob Lynch,” Yan-Lo said, pointing
a slightly transparent hand. “I see the darkness that lays
curled at the heart of you. It holds knowledge that I must
have. I will speak with it.”
>>
>>46923001
“I really think you might be –”
“Will you speak, creature, or must I draw you into the
open?” Yan-Lo said, his eyes seeming to look through
the man in the chair.
Jakob shivered in his seat. His mouth opened but no
articulate sounds were released. Misaki watched his eyes
roll up in his head and for just an instant there was a
glimmer of something else, something huge and alien
and multi-limbed occupying the space where the club
owner sat.
Who are you?
Enquired a spectral, serpentine voice that had nothing
to do with Jakob’s twitching lips. It seemed to resonate
directly into her skull.
“I am a traveler from another world,” Yan-Lo said. “I
walk many paths.”
You are all travelers.
Trespassers. Aliens. I was here eons before you
came, and will be here eons after you die.
“Left to your own devices, perhaps,” the old man said. “But
an old evil is reawakening. I have seen it. I have felt it."
There are many evils in Malifaux. What of one
more?
“Not one, but many.”
Why should that concern me?
“Because the last time they were unleashed you barely
survived,” Yan-Lo intoned severely.
The creature fell silent, but Misaki could feel the room
growing colder. Whether this was anger or fear, she
couldn’t tell.
Lies.
They were banished. There is no return from that
place.
“I have seen it,” Yan-Lo insisted. “I walk many paths and
I may wander them at will, to the distant past or
the future yet to come. And I say I have seen
it with my own eyes. They will return, and
they will lay waste to this world.”
Again, the creature was silent, but Misaki
could see the air around Jakob
distorting as though it was growing
fitful and anxious.
“You must help us, or you will die with us,” Yan-Lo
pressed.
Fools.
I am Darkness. I am Stealth. I am Patience. I
survived through guile, not might. I have not the
strength to stop their return. No one does.
>>
>>46923019
“I do not ask you to fight,” Yan-Lo corrected. “But you
were there when they were defeated. You witnessed their
downfall. You know what happened.”
The old man leaned close, his eyes sparkling with the
light of distant stars.
“You’re going to tell us how to trap them.”

Loving your progress man, great lookimg crew.
I just picked up the entirety of kirai's metal stuff all unassembled with 30 graveyard bases for 80 Dollarydoos which was a sweet deal given they were all still in blisters.
Cleaning it all up now so no paint quite yet.

GM here.

That'd be absolutely fine. We can take it slow and get you up to speed. You wouldn't be the only person learning as we go. Just as long as you're happy with something character-focused and RPing in voice, we cool.

Throw me an email.

Running an intro game tonight for a friend. I have all the Resser stuff except McMourning and Sebastian(have Nurses, Construct and Canine Remains), should I play a 25pt henchman game or just two starters?

If henchmen, what would make good crews? If staryers, which two?
>>
>>46923711
I find stuff that isn't super hard to kill is more appealing to new player so they can feel like they're doing stuff.
Because this game is way more objective focused than most newer players just want to punch each other. So I feel it's good to let them kill some stuff to get that basic interest built.
>>
>>46923711
I agree with what
>>46923780
Said. But would also add that while Masters are more mechanically complex, they are also one of the game's main 'things'. The game just isn't as exciting without masters, which somewhat defeats the point of trying to hook somebody in with a beginners game. It wouldn't be representative of how the game is played. Like playing chess without the queen.
>>
>>46923892
I'd say without pawns.
>>
>>46923892
Do you think the Seamus starter vs Nicodem starter would be good? They seem fair level in terms of power level, Rotton Belles aside and they're both fairly simple Masters
>>
Anyone have a well lit picture of plastic Molly's face? I'm potentially interested in her for a conversion, but can't find any decent shots of her online.
>>
>>46901943
Infinity is worse with highly specific rules.
>>
>>46924014
Nicodem is unfortunately not a fantastic box vs box master due to his kit being reliant on summoning. Unless you have a big pile of resser models for whoever gets that box to summon. Seamus vs McMourning would be a better matchup.
>>
>>46924927
What an entirely irreverent statement. He didn't even bring up Infinity dude.
>>
>>46924970
He was complaining about super specific rules, I said infinity is worse about that aspect he was talking about.
>>
>>46924959
Lucky I own all the currently released Resser plastics
>>
>>46925441
Then that should be fine. You may need to go over the importance of watching/earmarking cards with the nico player though.
>>
>>46924927
Infinity's rules are pretty general though. Sure there's a lot of them, but only a few of them are unique to a specific faction.

A player from 1 faction will be able to work out what other units from another faction can do pretty quickly as the special rules are all still the same. There are one or two exceptions for a couple of specific units but even then, that's only one unique rule.
>>
>>46927522
>A player from 1 faction will be able to work out what other units from another faction can do pretty quickly as the special rules are all still the same

There's so many of them you can play the same faction as the enemy and have two different sets of special rules on the table. Infinity may have very few unit-specific rules, but it has something like 200 pages worth of those special rules between HS3 and 3rd Ed now.

>What is Malifaux?
Malifaux is a 28mm Skirmish Tabletop game, with a focus on completing several different objectives, while denying your opponent their objectives.

Not sure what else is supposed to be in the op, but Malifaux threads never seem to have consistent ops. I know the basic rules manual is now free, but people still need the stats as very few are willing to drop cash with such uncertainty.
>>

>>46925029

I was actually referring to Infinity in that original post.

I like to have at least a small force in most non-GW wargames, so I got the Morat sectoral. The lack of cards means I gotta print out a lot of reference pages or drop $60 on the core book.

Not dismissing the game or anything so much as Warmahordes and Malifaux have spoiled me with nice little rule reference cards and apps.
>>
>>46927870
I'm kind of dissapointed there's not a nice printable pdf of the cards on drive tru rpg. Even just in black and white it would make the game more appealing if it was only $20 or something like that.
Even just single faction for say $5.
>>
>>46930290

Haunt ebay for a bit and you can get both Waves of faction decks for fairly cheap.

Really ebay is a great place for Malifaux in general.
>>
>>46930290
I know, I would have made one by now if my computer hadn't chizzed the bed.
I still feel digital stat cards should be free to download, paying for official cards is completely acceptable once you know what you are purchasing.
>>
According to Wyrd, proxies must be at least 66% official product.
How is that measured, by total volume or surface area?
>>
>>46931382
Oh it's not for me. I'm happy to drop whatever. I have 60% of all the models.

More for new people getting invested. You can always throw down for the nice cards once you're hooked.

yes

Real answer: Whatever the TO decides is valid. If you sculpt something from scratch but it's good it can still get in depending on the TO.
