Ive formulated a plan to curb my spending, work on what I have, and keep motivated on my health, inspired by a post in a previous thread.

I can only buy new miniatures using money from a hypothetical money jar. I can "fill" the jar by completing certain tasks.

>Painting models I already own. $1 for every infantry model, $5 for vehicles and characters
>Getting outside and walking around. $3 for every mile I walk.
>Every day I stick to my diet is another $1

etc
>>
>>46862947

I just have to rely on patience and discipline. I had my pile down to very little but recently the new releases and FW discontinuing tons of shit forced me to buy some more.

If I used your scheme, I'd have tons of money regardless since I actively train and diet and can't really think of any regular "good deeds" I do that would warrant putting money in the jar.

No new edition. Just the same rulebook with integrated the FAQ that will came out in 2 weeks.

Like almost anything nowadays.

No new codices, just reprints with supplements in it.

But people are going to buy them anyway, so can you blame them?

Have any of you guys ever used Tabletop Simulator to play warhammer? I felt like playing today, but didnt have any games to go to, so I googled around a bit for online options and I found a bunch of 40k armies in the steam workshop for TTS. So I bought it and damn, it seems like you could definitely make it work for a VOIP warhammer session with some friends. Only problems is that unless you get really lucky with your army, WYSIWYG would be kinda hard to do. But I guess as long as all players have information on what the other players are running it wouldn't be too much of an issue.

Anyone used it before? Honestly I'm not trying to shill, I'm just trying to see if anyone here would be interested in setting up some kind of /tg/ game night or something.

I'm a poor fag and play large games exclusively on TTS. It works well enough IMO.

WYSIWYG is basically impossible, but you can give the models descriptions and colour them to make them stand out so that helps.

Also some models are just missing xause peoole haven't made them yet or they aren't easily rippable from somewhere.

I'm just hoping GW doesn't sue the shit out of this.

So for the sake of a donutsteel alternate timeline, I'm trying to flesh out equally donutsteel concepts for the Lost Legions. Anyone have ideas of specialties and themes not represented in the canon legions? Or even your own donutsteel Lost Legions? I'm at a bit of a loss for ideas here.
>>
>>46865107
So basically going through the list of other legions, and figuring out what the remaining 2 specialized in through process of elimination?

I like it.

That said, it's tough to say what they would have focused on.

I do recall one fluff bit that one of the lost legions was gotten rid of due to excessive mutation, although that was more just hinting at it.

>>
>>46865107
Probably better off working out what the /primarchs/ were supposed to be rather than the legion. And to work out what was missing from Emps' plan you need to extrapolate what some of the more fucked up Primarchs should have represented.
>>
>>46865331
Well, for reference, it was hinted at by Sanguinius. Somebody asked him why he didn't get the Emperor's help with the Black Thirst issue, and he said something implying that another legion had been removed for similar reasons.

It's likely that both of them kept a lid on it, while whatever missing Legion had it way worse off than both of them and couldn't keep it secret as easily.

If you're going with an alternate timeline, you could easily flip it so that the alternate version's mutation is less drastic and one of theirs is worse.

Of course, the fact that they're mutated isn't much of a clue as to their function.

Alright, I need to know. What would happen if a Space Marine chapter ended up in a Lamenters kind of fucked up situation, and got so desperate that they resorted to trying to recruit felinids as space marines?

How would that work? Would it even be viable to have catboy space marines?

>A mile takes like 20 minutes to walk.

That's not even a walk at that pace. It's like a leisurely stroll. If you're power walking, jogging very slowly with walks in between for breaks, or walking with a purpose, shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes.

I know my mile times due to running being my weakest spot but needing good 1.5 and 3 mile times for the military.

if you are on the streets those intersections will kill your mile times

Knights are canonically allowed to put chapter colors and symbols on their knight as a reward for faithful service or being a longtime or valuable ally.

I don't think the whole knight will be 100% space marine colored, but having the knight look like it is allied to a chapter is canon. It's why Mechanicus knights are always red with cogs and other Mechanicus style hoods and ribbing everywhere.

I am fit and fairly attractive. Not bragging or anything I'm not "omg that guy's a hottie I want to sleep with him" attractive, but I've seen many men with very hot girlfriends who are both less fit and uglier than I am.

The problem is unless you are top 1% in either looks or money, women aren't going to approach you. A fatter, uglier man who approaches many women has a much higher chance of landing a good girlfriend compared to a fit, attractive man who never approaches women, who will probably never get a woman unless he meets the rare unicorn woman who actually initiates.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, but I totally understand where you're coming from. Approaching women can be terrifying, especially moreso if you don't have confidence in your appearance.

A freeblade probably could get away with it. There's lore in the Knight's codex of Houses putting the symbols of honored allies on their Knights.

I mean if you make it blatantly "this is a Dark Angels Knight" with a huge wingged sword symbol on it then it'll look silly, but if you do it right "here's my freeblade currently following this DA detachment, showing fealty to them by marking it up" and just add a shit ton of other markings so it's not just simply DA iconography I think you can get away with it.
>>
>>46866132
Stompas and Gargants appear in a couple of places, but the books are so short - and the battles over so quickly - that they rarely have any sort of impact upon the reader. The best example of them appearing is probably in the forth book, during the invasion of a planet controlled by the Iron Warriors.

>>
>>46866363
I don't recall there being Gargants in Castellax, but it's been ages since I read the book, so might well be wrong.

The Iron Warriors manage to hold their own reasonably well, using human settlements to draw the Orks into an artillery killing field, then counter-attacking with a large squadron of Vindicators. They're eventually routed by the arrival of a trio of Gargants/Stompas (it isn't clear which IIRC). The Iron Warrior narrating the scene comes to the conclusion that the Orks knew the human settlement was a decoy and attacked anyway, because they possessed enough forces to win regardless. Essentially drawing the Iron Warriors out and turning their own trap against them. Some of the IW's do manage to escape into orbit though - a teaser for one of the later books implies they're going to team up with, or at least enter a ceasefire with, the Imperium at some point.
>>
>>46866425
If you want Diplomacy, then I think Sanguinius would be your man, although a non-fucked up Lorgar could have become the Best Iterator Ever. Scouting and infiltration is pretty Alpha Legion / Raven Guard, but I really don't think you'd choose Space Marines as messengers or traders?

My main problem is that a bunch of legions just seem defunct post-heresy. There has to be some real extrapolation to work out what non-Butcher's Nails Angron would have become, and therefore represented, and he and the Khan both seem like it'd just be 'they are still legions because who knows what they'd do in peacetime?'

Well, I mean in the sense of having a legion focused on transporting important communications between other legions quickly, as well as focusing upon supplies and logistics.

Think more along the lines of Merchant Marines (actual ones).

Also, the logistics & messaging legion being one of the ones lost would certainly explain why everyone during the heresy is so bad at knowing what's going on.

I'm drafting a 7th edition Ork codex update myself, though, that's turning out quite good. Will post when complete. If rumors are to be believed (lol) GW knows that the Ork dex is busted but doesn't know what to do about it; they will in a little bit.

>Nothing--just some "DAKKA DAKKA ZZAP" shit in the hint section of this week's WD.

Some anon a few threads ago hypothesised that it would just be rules for using Orkanauts in the Renegade game. Which sounds far too plausible for me to have really any hope that anything nice is coming our way.

Horus, even if he doesn't go chaos, is still Warmaster. He's the hard negotiations guy, not the "We'd like to be friends with these people." guy.

Sanguinius was the most well-liked of the primarchs, and if I give Lorgar enough credit to not find the wrong end of the Emprah-Worship stick and shove it up his ass to get off on it, I'm giving Sanguinius diplomacy.

>Opinions expressed are those of an Ultrafag who thinks Gulliman had the other primarchs sussed pretty well.

"Sanguinius. It should have been him. He has the vision and strength to carry us to victory, and the wisdom to rule once victory is won. For all his aloof coolness, he alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood. Each of us carries part of our father within us, whether it is his hunger for battle, his psychic talent or his determination to succeed. Sanguinius holds it all. It should have been his..."

Trying to decide between Necrons and Renegade Space Marines (played with C:SM, because fuck the Chaos codex). Alright, so I have a Chaos Terminator squad mostly assembled now. I've gone for Combi-plasma on all of them.

Which is better for their power weapons? I'm debating between 2 power axes and a power maul on the champ, or just going for 3 power axes for the full squad.

I feel like the Power Maul might be nicer in a challenge or against MCs, though I'm not sure how that would hold up compared to an Axe.

>>
>>46867385
The purge detatchment has a rule that lets you cause dangerous terrain using barrage weapons.

This is more of a benefit in a Renegades & Heretics list where they've got a lot of artillery to do chemical warfare that way.

CSM just has one barrage weapon on a special type of landraider.

Not necessary, but it could be fun to include.
>>
>>46867392
CSM termicide (112 point three man deep striking squad with 3 combi weapons) rarely live for more than a turn. Their job is to show up and unload on something. Anything else they do is a bonus.

6 plasma shots out of nowhere can be pretty effective in the right situation.
>>
>>46867453

>I also am afraid that my army will get tabled in an alpha strike. That's probably a lot more likely to happen.

This, I can speak on.
If someone tables you, you get to lose gracefully, which is a great opportunity to show that you are at least not one particular brand of That Guy. For your long-term enjoyment at the place, showing good sportsmanship in your first few games is way, way more important than winning them.
>>

>>46867542
I've already got a fair amount of other meltaguns on my list, and my group doesn't use to many vehicles.

6 plasma shots will give me better success against more elite infantry squads, MCs and the like. Plus they're less likely to completely flub their shooting.
>>
>>46867542
>plasma seems seems like a weird choice for a suicide squad though, wouldnt melta be better to guarantee a dead vehicle?

Plasma is also better for pinging vehicles to death through HP loss. With three Meltas, even firing them into the rear armour, if just one fails to hit or is saved you're fishing for 5+'s to score an Explodes! result. Six plasma shots stand decent odds of pinging a vehicle to death through weight of dice.

>>
>>46867259

>>
>>46867754
My mathhammer on that gets that 3 Melta shots are still more likely to destroy the vehicle against AVs 10, 11 and 12 (although Plasma does remove more HP on average aginst 10 and 11).

AV 10 the Melta removes 2 HP average and destroys 73.6% of the time, plasma 2.66 recurring HP and 55.6% destruction
AV 11: Melta 1.94 HP, 70.8% destruction, Plasma 2 HP, 40% destruction
AV 12: Melta 1.83, 66% Plasma 1.33, 22%
>>
>>46868113
(This is assuming the Melta benefit, 3 shots, and plasma gets 6. Outside melta half range but still giving Plasma rapid fire, Plasma is more compelling, but still destroys vehicles less often)
>>

But a squad of melta or plasma havocs won't be able to deep-strike. You're going to have to use a rhino to get them into position.

Not only that, but it eats up a heavy support slot. Spending 100 points on a handful of terminators that can drop in and blow something up reliably is very nice.

If they die afterwards, they wouldn't benefit from non-combi guns. If they don't die, then you've got a squad of good CC units ready to assault something, so the lack of true plasmaguns hurts less.

>If we're very lucky, it might come with a datasheet that makes them Superheavies in order to be on par with Knights and the Stormsurge.

While that would be nice, unless they fix the other problems that go along with them, Super-Heavy status alone won't be enough.

Your average Knight or Wraith-Knight could very well destroy the things before they get a chance to swing back (or make it into combat).

And a Storm Surge could quite easily eliminate a Super-Heavy one before it ever gets into charge range. Especially a Gorkanaut given it has no option for a save of any kind unless a Big Mek with a KFF is aboard.

Unless they want the Orkanaut to just be a Super-Heavy that hauls things around and bullies non-Super Heavies, it'd have to see a remarkable change in the number of Hull Points (Eight is a fair number) and it's shooting.

lel yeah I just did the math on this and it would be 940~ points. But if you just run the 2 big squads and take the minimum possible for the 3rd (keeping the Exarch and giving him a spear still) you'd have 785 points. That's 23 bikes, all of which have 5 WS (6 WS for the Exarchs) after the formation bonus, plus two more Autarch rape machines (also 6 WS since no formation bonus). You'd take no Overwatch on 22 of the models and the small unit could screen for them or tie something up for lulz. I'm too lazy to go check the book right now to see if the Autarch reserves bonus stacks, which I'm assuming it does not, but you could still make use of that to have a hilarious DSing and CC bike army that, despite being 50%+ the worst Aspect Warriors, would probably fucking murder a lot of armies.

>>46871706

Storm Guardians are decent compared to other shitty cheap CC infantry, and if you use the Craftworld Warhost get free special weapons. You can stick Warlocks on the squad or put them in transport and do lots with them. They're disposable anti-hoard and/or can help versus light mech shit.

Vibro Cannons are mediocre, I wouldn't say they're terrible. They just look extra shit since everything else is so good. That said, I've never run them.

Banshees are cheap anti-Marine CC units immune to Overwatch. Not even a bad deal.

The Avatar sucks and the Phoenix Lords are overpriced, but even then, they're not absolute trash. I bet you could make an army consisting only of those units and you'd beat all bottom tier and some mid-tier lists. If you ran it as a CWWH and added the two additional necessary units, you'd be even better and your shit would all be fleet.

I wonder how hard it would be to replace the normal table with a more real-looking setting for it. Like all the mechanics would stay the same but the models are just placed in a real-looking city or field or wherever.

Maybe you could even animate it?
>>
>>46871805
Sorry, I was talking in a vacuum, with no extra support. Storm Guardians are the only real stinker in the book. Vibro Cannons are Autocannons, Krak Missles on a good day, and Lascannons if you're TL'ing. Banshees don't have a reliable way to get into CC. Also

Nobz are good in combat, you just have to put them into the right stuff. Orks are bullyz, their units are made to bully weaker units, not stand up to their equivalents. Ive had a single nob wipe out an entire unit of 20 gargoyles. 3 nobz in a wagon have killed a carnifex and a sporocyst. Meganobz have gibbed multiple hive tyrants. 3 nobz wiped an entire squad of scatbikes and an entire seer council

>S3 ain't helping much.

I didn't actually run it myself, but I remember reading a blogpost saying that based on the mathhammer, Banshees are the most effective per points vs Marines in the whole codex. Scorpions supposedly do worse. It's mostly dependent on you getting the charge though and takes a few turns to kill a maxed Tac Squad. But like you said, it's hard to get them there (possibly easier in the Warhost if they're fleet?).

As far as Storm Guardians, they suck stock but I really don't think they're that bad if they're in the Warhost, either. It's 216 pts for 24 fleet dudes with 6 flamers or meltas. I wouldn't call it good, still, but if you're running them in a fluffy situation with Ulthwe then you can put Warlocks with them and one or two squads might make it where they're supposed to go.

tl;dr they might all suck in a vacuum, but that's not how they'll be run so it's pretty irrelevant. I guess I was technically wrong on "no bad options" though

Anyway my shittiest possible 1000 pts Eldar list would be:

Autarch - Warp generator, spiderfaceshit, lasblaster, chainsword, phoenix gem (123)
40 Rangers (480)
20 Storm Guardians with 2 power weapons (210)
17 Storm Guardians with 2 power weapons (183)

Total 996 and it has no focus or point to it whatsoever. It might actually be shittier if the Rangers are replaced with more pointlessly large Storm Guardian squads instead, IDK, 40 rangers might actually get annoying.

So I just played my first game as sisters of battle (in TTS) and got steamrolled. I put up an okay fight at first, but bad rolls started to compound and before I knew it I had lost control of the board.

It was a 2k point battle, kind of a small/crowded map, sisters vs chaos. He had a big motherfucker, soulgrinder i think it was called, that hurt me pretty bad. Did what I could but he nailed me with sheer numbers by the end.

Anyone have any tips, specifically for playing sisters? Things like when to best use your AoFs, ways to counteract/diminish the negatives of an almost entirely T3 army? How to balance short range weaponry (flamer/melta) with relatively weak assault capability? Best ways to use Immolators? (The immos and rhinos I brought seemed to be almost completely ineffective. Their armor is just too easy to get through.)

I think next time I might try to put my repentia in an allied stormraven instead of a rhino. They died pretty quick, but they managed to get off one good charge and they decimated the squad they hit before dying themselves
