THE RULES: http://pastebin.com/BEsprkBZ
THE TANK: http://pastebin.com/sJsgig6B
THE DIVISIONS: http://pastebin.com/xCQZAdqU

All of you stand around a map table with Griselda. She points out the fact that now, “Our positions have been reversed. So we’re starting on Gagetown’s side, and they’re starting on ours from last time. Now, I fully suspect they’re going to bring out the maximum number of tanks allowed. And that means we’re probably going to face self-propelled artillery.”

“Is that bad?” asks Iris.

“Bad? Artillery was one of the major advantages of that midget Napoleon,” says Suvorov. “And he almost conquered Europe with it.”

“Riiiight…” Griselda continues on. “We can’t risk going off-road this time. I hate to be blunt, but none of you have drivers capable of overcoming the tank’s overall weakness to mud, except for the Churchill. But I don’t trust sending heavy tanks alone, especially one as important as the Churchill which today is our flag tank.”

“We will do our best,” says Iris. “As is expected of a lady.”

“Right.” You fold your arms. “So what then?”

“We force ourselves up the road, all five of us in a scattered formation, and hopefully we can make a run on their flag tank,” says Griselda. That’s… honestly not the best plan. But against self-propelled artillery on terrain this difficult to cross? It’s probably the best she could come up with. You won’t argue it for now. “Any questions?” Silence. “Well, alright then.” She checks her watch. “You all got some hours before the match starts. Try and have some fun but be at the Rally Point on time.”

No need to tell you twice. What to do then?

Anyway, here's GrisGris' Sherman. Honestly I'm not completely happy with it, yet I can't quite put my finger on why. Probably the experiment I did with shading the tracks.
Side note: I had a lot of trouble with the Sherman's curved turret, and after a lot of experimenting with shading I decided to leave it as you see it. Next up, the Pershing next week sometime

“Are you sure this plan will work?” you ask.

Griselda folds her arms. The two of you are alone now as you review the tanks. The huge dent in the frontal armor of the M4 Sherman was being welded over by Oleg as you walk by. “Truth be told no. But we can’t stay in one place with SPGs in play. Super-charged AP rounds of theirs could probably give us a run for our money if we get in close without a plan, and their HE rounds can probably tear off tracks and make us waste valuable time at best. At worst, they snipe one of our tanks before they even see the enemy.”

“Hm. There no better way?” you ask.

“I’m thinking,” she says. “I’m not my sister, I can’t come up with amazing clutch plays at the last second. But, I think we may have a chance if we can force their flag tank out in the open, find some way to spread themselves thinly. Defeat in detail you know?”

“I see.” You place your hands on your hips, sighing deeply. “Well, at least most of the tanks are up and running.”

“Yeah, I actually got word that Meryl won’t be in the match today, she wants to fix up her Grizzly Firefly.” That’s one less thing to worry about. “Other than that, yesterday you did me a real solid by coordinate that flank assault.” You shrug. Honestly it made the most sense. If you had stayed where you were, you would’ve been eaten up by suppressive fire from that Firefly. “Which is why, I’m promoting you to Officer.”

You blink. What. “Excuse me?” you ask.

“Officer, a squadron leader,” she says. “You’ve done really well in the past few matches, and you’ve already got experience as a Naval Studies Officer.” Er. But, what about- “Don’t worry about the front office stuff like sponsors or money, that’s all me. As an Officer though, I’m going to put someone under your direct command. And as our team expands, so too will your squadron.”

“That’s… that’s nice of you,” you say. “I’m not sure if uh… I’m not sure if I’m the right person.”

She smirks. “That’s what I hoped you’d say. Who do you want as part of your squadron?”

> Iris- Churchill IV (Currently the most dependable teammate surprisingly. But is in the heaviest and if she continues developing that tank, the slowest tank in the team. Not to mention she seems kind of snooty.)

“Really?” asks Griselda. “You sure you want to handle the Poles?”

You nod. “I figure I can take care of them better than you can. No offense.”

“Oh, none taken. When Janek recommended them to me, I figured they would’ve been a bit more mellow but it turns out there’s a very good reason she recommended them to me,” she says quickly. “They’re a real handful but I hope you can bring out the best in them, Ellie.”

“I’ll do my best,” you declare.

“Good.” She opens her arms. “Hugs!” She immediately hugs you, rubbing her cheek up against yours. You blush a little. Um, you know, all this and that that you’ve done with Griselda. It seems a tad too familiar. She then kisses your cheek happily. Yeah, yeah, okay, too familiar, too close. Please let go.

Oleg calls you from the Sherman. “Solnyshka! I am finished with repairs!” The two of you walk over to him. “And in excellent time too.” All it looks like is that he welded a discolored plate over the wound the Sherman received.

“Thanks, Oleg,” says Griselda. “Um, do I need to pay you anything or-“

“No, no.” He snaps his finger. “Your smiles are payment are enough, hehe!” Griselda bites her lip, blushing a bit. You fold your arms, glaring at him. “What? Not open to compliments? But seriously, repairs are free of charge. Consider it a service for choosing Crazy Oleg’s to get your parts.”

Griselda coughs, clearing her blush a bit. “Well, I’m going to head to the Rally Point. Did you want to come with?”

The two of you take Griselda’s Dodge WC truck all the way to the Rally Point. While you’re on the way, she decides to try and strike up conversation with you. “So, you been doing Tankery long?” You shake your head. “Interesting. You’re a natural if this is your first time in a major tournament. What made you want to join up?”

“I figured I had gotten aboard LGA, wanted to do tankery,” you say. “Plus, I wanted to make some friends. I don’t have a lot of friends outside of my crew and even then, I’ve only really known them for a couple of weeks at best. So… yeah.”

“Really? You not good with people?” she asks. You shrug. “You don’t look like it, you seem to act fine around people.”

“I-… I don’t know how to be friends with people,” you say. “I can talk with people fine. But, I’ve never uh… I’ve never talked with people longer than say, ten minutes I think? And usually in between is a long awkward silence because I don’t do small-talk.” You fold your arms. “That’s the gist of it.”

“Aw.” She pulls the Dodge truck up to the Rally point, where a few of the Canadians were already hanging out. “Well, you always got me.” She gently kisses you on the cheek. STOP. FUCKING. DOING THAT. The look on your face tells her something. “Did you want me to stop doing that?”

> “N- no.”

“No! No! Of course not! It’s- it’s cute! I love it!” You happily giggle, trying to play it off. But the no-nonsense look on her face tells you she’s not buying it. “I mean- I think it’s cute at least.”

“It’s making you uncomfortable isn’t it?” she asks. You nod silently. “That’s alright.” She pinches your cheek, and you immediately slap her hand away. Goddamn it, stop it! You’re not a child! “Everybody’s different I guess. If it makes you uncomfortable, don’t worry, I won’t do it.” Aw fuck, now you feel like a botherer. Oh well.

At least it’ll stop.

The two of you dismount and meet up with Meryl Hoffmeister and her crew of Canadians. “Bonjour,” she greets. “The two of you are looking quite swell. Ready for today’s match then?”

You nod. “More than ready.”

“Ah, I see she brought you here with you, making sure you’re not late?” Griselda smirks a bit. Hoffmeister however says, “I’ll tell you what, I guess being late isn’t the end of the world. But in Camp Gagetown, it does mean a visit to the hallway to meet with Barry and Garry.”

“Who’s Barry and Garry?” asks Griselda.

“The buckets of water we have to hold when we stand in the hallway,” says Hoffmeister. “Archaic I know, but my arms have probably stretched five inches from those days. I guess those are school traditions, yeah?” Oh, you can relate to that already. “LGA have something stupid like that?”

> “We run losers of a recall election out of town on a rail.”

“Really.” Meryl blinks at that. “That sounds really metal.” You shrug, as does Griselda. She would know more about it than you do honestly. “Well, I tell you what, my days of holding Barry and Garry in the hallways are over. Why I say that-“

One of her crewmembers speaks up. “What about that time you showed up with your skirt five inches too shirt?”

“Or that time they caught you stealing pens from the teacher’s desk?” says another.

“Girls.” Meryl motions for them to zip it. They immediately do. “Anyway, my days of being a troublemaker are over as of… two days ago. I am a clean and pure woman of good standing and none shall argue that.”

And with that, the Judges arrive. “Are we all ready for some good tanking?” asks Judge Joyce. You all nod. Pretty soon, the rest of the crews along with a very steady and large audience starts coming by. It’s about time for the match to start. Serafina stands next to you.

After a few minutes of everything being explained to Serafina, and with Good Lucks being exchanged, the Judge Joyce yells out, “The Match between Lafayette Girls Academy and Camp Gagetown will now begin. Lafayette holds the advantage at one match! This match will be a Flag Battle, render inoperable the opposing team’s Flag Tank to win!”

NATO Tankery allows open-topped vehicles to participate provided they be fitted with a closed cabin.

> 6. For vehicles which were historically open-cabin, armored compartments will be allowed to make them safe to use. Self-propelled artillery vehicles such as the M7 Priest, the Hummel, and other examples will be eligible for armored cabins.
> a. The armored cabins will be only 5 millimeters thick, to make sure performance is not in any way affected.

The in-universe logic behind this is to allow parity for smaller and poorer teams to compete with larger ones by allowing the historically cheap and open-topped tank destroyers to participate.

“Good luck to you too, thank you.” You try not to look intimidated by the size of their roster. It’s so big that on the view screen, they actually have to scroll down the list. They were going easy on you in the Elimination fight, but now they’re pulling out all the stops.

-

-

“Begin!” yells the Judge in your ear piece. The flare explodes in the air, signaling the start of the match. Now the positions were reversed. And now, Serafina was under your official direct command.

“Let’s move!” yells Griselda. Your tanks start forward. The ground hasn’t hardened out unfortunately, it was still as wet and muddy as ever. But thankfully you were sticking to the road for now. Griselda takes point, in column formation with Iris behind, then Suvorov, then you, then Serafina. It was risky to put the Flag Tank in the middle of the formation, but you couldn’t risk it being sniped by a Firefly. Better to lose the Commander than the Flag.

“See anything?” asks Iris, a little nervous.

“Nothing,” says Griselda. “We should expect resistance though coming up the road.”

In ITL tournaments, rocket artillery isn't allowed.

In NATO, rocket artillery including historical incendiary rockets are perfectly valid additions.

Yes, but an extra 260 horses is a pretty big difference when we've only got 340.

Not very good as in not much of an upgrade, or not very good as in actually WORSE than the 6 pounder?
Because we could always go frankentank and keep the 6 pounder.

Same as ITL and JSF rules, August 15, 1945.

Post-war mods and variants are decided on a case-by-case basis. And there is currently plans for NATO to introduce Cold War tanks to the tournament in limited fashion by this year. I.E. I can't decide if I want Cold War tonks or not.

The real struggle is how we're even going to be mobile on said alt route. But we probably have little options.
>>
>>46863543
if you look at the pictures it has a thin top similar to that of the Jackson.

but the Challenger's designs stem from it's big turret size and it the Avenger, we can not only fix that but reduce weight needed for better speed.
>>
We need to draw them into a trap. A head on is never going to work.

Make contact then retreat into the marsh. It'll string them out because of the terrain and we can slowly pick them off.

This relies on the assumption we don't get stuck in the mud. Oh well.
>>
>>46863651
Don't they have artillery? They can just shell suspected areas. They have no need to pursue.

Then perhaps they could be limited by rarity or price for maintaining such relatively advanced armored vehicles? In addition, have a hard cap of 1-2 per 10 tanks a team fields.

Admittedly, however, there are still problems in "modernized" WW2 designs, like pic related.
>>
>>46863703
No... If you had an Abrams/Centurion/Chieftain it could feasibly sit back and knock out the entire team. WWII Tanks don't even hold a candle. It's not about armor necessarily so much as firepower and engagement range.

You either need to stick with WWII or push it all up into cold war.
>>
>>46863678
but then we will partially lose the advantages of being a Cruiser Tank. Not to mention it will be easy on the traverse if the turret wasn't so heavy.

Not to mention less of a bigger target
>>

You hit up your throat mic. “Griselda. I’m gonna go off road again.” She looks back from her turret hatch at you, surprised. “I don’t trust staying on the road. I think they might their artillery might be pre-sighting it. We could end up buried under ordnance if we stay here.”

Griselda nods. “Alright. That’s a good point then. Take point, we’re heading northwards. We’ll advance in wedge formation, Iris you’ll hang back, me and Ellie will take point.” Your tanks slowly form up the wedge, with you and Griselda forming the point, Suvorov on the left, Serafina on the right, and Iris in the middle of it. You crash onto the swampy ground and move up northwards.

Someone nudges your leg, you look down to see Winona offering you a ziplock bag full of nachos. “I know you didn’t have much of a lunch, so go ahead and eat.” Oh, that’s thoughtful. Oooh, chili and cheese too. You take it up and start munching.

“Anybody see anything?” asks Griselda. Everyone shouts no. “Alright. Keep formation. We’re going to continue onto the airport. Those who follow behind will set the pace.”

“Griselda.” She looks back at you, curious. “I think that’s a bad idea. They might be expecting that since that’s what happened last match. Maybe we should continue farther north. Sweep around, maybe hit them from the rear.”

Griselda looks at you for a minute or two. You realize now that you’re basically stepping all over her plans, but she seems to take it in stride at least. “Alright. Take point then, Ellie. Wedge formation as before, Ellie will set the pace.”

Ingrid looks back as you check under the turret. “You know, I’d probably be pissed too if I had some upstart rookie giving all the orders.”

“I’m only making suggestions,” you declare. “She doesn’t need to listen to me,” you quietly mutter. You stand out atop as the formation continues moving. Thankfully, the experience of last match has taught Josephina how to keep a slow but steady pace on this mud. But as for Serafina well…

“Bah!” They grab a tow hook from the front of the Pershing’s hull, then hook it onto the Churchill. The two heavies clumsily cooperate to get through the mud.

“Strange,” says Griselda. “I’m not sure they even realize we’re out here.”

“It’s like the scouting report said,” you explain. “They don’t adapt to uneven circumstances. Bad terrain is uneven.” You check your map and your compass, and find that you are indeed now north of the airport. You’re actually making excellent time. However, Griselda pulls everyone to a stop now.

“Alright, we’re north of the airport.” She turns out of her turret, then looks over at you. “Ellie, you’re setting the pace for the rest of us. What do your instincts tell you?”

Considering that they might be now using the airport as a potential staging area, it might be time for a quick dash and raid. “Griselda, how about we head south and hit the airport. We take a couple of shots if they’re there, then fade back into the swamps.”

“Good call. Suvorov, you’re with me. Iris, hang back behind Ellie and Serafina. We’ll do this in chapters. We’ll take the first shots and book it. Ellie and Serafina will reverse and cover our escape. If you see a Firefly, shoot at that first.” Everyone yells an affirmative. “Let’s roll!”

Your tanks roll southwards towards the airport, up a relatively long slope. The Pershing again has some trouble getting up the hill, but it gets solved again this time through persistence. Finally, Griselda and Suvorov crest the hill. “Contact! Five Grizzly tanks! Side shots, fire!” They fire, knocking two out immediately.

The others immediately turn on you. “Alright, back, back!” Griselda and Suvorov immediately reverse, going down the hill. Your turn, Serafina fires, the shot going wide. Damn! Your turn, shot fires away, knocking off a track on one of the Grizzlies.

> MOBILITY KILL: TIFFANY WALLER – GRIZZLY I

“Alright, alright! Go back!” Iris is already reversing out. You and the Pershing start reversing, until suddenly the Pershing sinks into the mud, almost up to the engine block. “Serafina!” you yell. “You’re stuck!”

“We can’t get the tracks to stick!” They start bailing out, hurrying to get the Pershing out.

“Give us a smoke bomb!” Stack nods, loading up the bomb thrower with smoke grenades. With a loud pop, the smoke grenade fires, then bursts in the air, shrouding the Pershing and your tank in white smoke. It’s very obvious now where to shoot. But not obvious where you are. That has to buy you some time while you, Stack, and Ingrid dismount. You grab the tow hook, then rush with Stack to the Pershing.

“Help us!” yells Serafina as they try to push the Pershing out of the hole forward.

“Forget it!” you shout. You hook the tow cable onto their engine block, then signal for Josephina to pivot. Your Centaur tank pivots around, slowly starting to sink as it remains in place. But once it’s all lined up, she goes full speed. The Pershing struggles against the mud. “Get back in your tank, now!”

Suddenly, a shot lands beside you and Stack, splattering mud and water on you two. Ingrid hurries you two inside back into your tank. The Pershing starts its track in reverse, slowly pushing mud underneath its treads. Josephina gives the engine everything it has, sideswiping to the left and right as it tries to pull out the Pershing.

“Ellie!” Griselda calls you over the radio. “I’m taking Iris and Suvorov and heading west, where are you!?”

“I’m trying to pull out Serafina!” you say loudly. “Just give us a minute!” Another shot lands close by.

Suddenly, you hear the loud roar of the Pershing’s engine. It rumbles its way out of the quagmire. “Yeeeehaw!” Stack slaps a shell in celebration. “They’re out! What are your orders!?”

Stack looks back at you. “Sounded big, must be those SPGs, those tanks of theirs are calling us out!” Oh great. You pop out of the turret hatch, then look back to see at least three angry Sherman Grizzlies, and look to be a reinforcing section of five Sherman Fireflies!

Oh great. You got them leading you into SPG fire AND you’re being chased by Sherman Fireflies! They all fire on the move. Their shots rip past you, splashing mud and water all over the place. Thankfully, all five managed to miss, thank goodness for that.

“Hey, we see their flag tank and their SPGs along with a couple of Grizzlies and the Stuarts! I don’t think they notice us!” says Griselda. “Buy us some time! Just keep them from rallying!”

I'm starting to think it's the fact that they have very junior officers and without Meryl at the head, they're not nearly as tactically sound.
>>
>>46866606
Well their plan wasn't really bad.

We just happened to go so far north as to be highly unusual. Most people would stick to the tankworthy area.

It did almost end in disaster it has to be said. Pershing got stuck and all.
>>
>>46866722
Fair point, perhaps it's more a composure problem, than a tactical problem.

“Fire everything!” Stack pops her head out of the hatch, then loads in a smoke charge. It fires upwards, shrouding the two of your tanks in smoke, then firing off an illumination flare as well. It breaks the mist, lighting up the entire overcast area.

You can barely see their silhouettes through the light smoke at least. “Serafina, do you have-“ You hear the 90mm fire right past you. It flies right through the smoke. According to the judging computer in the tank, it appears to have hit something!

> KO: *MARY BOGARTS – SHERMAN VC FIREFLY

“Whoa! We hit something!?” yells Serafina. “How did that happen!?”

Well, fuck, you aren’t going to argue! “Winona, fire!” Your tank fires as well, this time wide through the smoke. More shots come in.

One gashes the top of the turret, nearly taking your head off. Nope. You instinctively turn down and hide in the turret. There you see Winona holding her head. “What happened!?”

“The shot knocked her into the wall!” yells Stack. Winona groans, holding her head.

Winnoa is stunned, but we have to divert fire somehow. We go east and we are likely getting artillery fire, south we will be in a hornets nest. We're going down, but what will buy the most time?

My initial guess is south, but I'm flip flopping hard here.
>>
> Keep heading south towards the road.

“Keep us on this current course!” you order. The Centaur I crashes through more mud and slop that used to be the ground. You look back to see the Shermans moving slowly and cautious to pursue. They probably don’t want to end up bogged in this quagmire like you were. But that’s costing them time in pursuing you.

At least until one shot flies past you and buries itself into the Pershing’s engine block. It explodes, bellowing fires and smoke upwards.

More shots fly right at you. Most miss thanks to the good speed you’re covering and the odd angle you’re escaping at in relative position to theirs but-

One shot finds itself scraping the tracks. You suddenly hear a loud banging and scraping noise coming from the suspension. “What the hell is that!?”

“It’s the suspension, I think they damaged it!” yells Stack. “They must have knocked a wheel loose!”

“One last bit of smoke, Stack, fire!” She nods, firing off the bomb thrower again. It splashes the tank in more concealing smoke, saving you from a barrage of Firefly shots. They all splash around worryingly close. Not a single hit though.

“What about the wheel!?” yells Ingrid worriedly.

“The wheel’s fine! Now just-“ You hear a crack, then a loud snap as the tank suddenly flies right out of control. You all scream as you’re thrown out of your seats and all over the tank.

> MOBILITY KILL: ELODIE ZUMWALT – CENTAUR I

“… who’s grabbing my tit?” you ask. Winona quickly sneaks her hand away, as does Stack. “Stack, Ingrid, hurry and fix the wheel. Winona, can you take the gun?” She shakes her head, still groaning a little in pain. “Alright, move over.” As Stack and Ingrid leave the tank, you settle into Winona’s gunner seat. You quickly turn the turret around to where you last saw the pursuers.

Suddenly, you hear one shot splash dangerously close. “I see them through the smoke!” yells Stack over the radio. “They’re getting closer!” You just need to buy some time, even if it means getting this tank wrecked in the process! Come on, Griselda! Be clutch! Be clutch! Another shot pings off the turret.

“Ah!” Josephina screams. “What is happening!?” The near misses are scattering the smoke away, giving away your position. Oh fuck oh fuck. You level your gun and fire without a care in the world. It goes wide over the head of one of the Fireflies. They level their guns again.

“Woohoo!” You poke your head out of the turret to see Stack hugging Ingrid tight. Ingrid chokes, trying to tell Stack to let go as the air is sucked right out from her. The dejected looking Camp Gagetown girls all bail out of their tanks, grumbling but not sore.

Meryl shakes your hand gracefully. “That was a good match. I’m just sorry we couldn’t make it a draw even with our numbers.” It’s a little sad actually, facing your defeated foe. You know they’re trying not to seem mad or sad about the results, but Meryl is taking it with amazing grace. It’s admirable, very admirable. “Hopefully we see each other again in the playoffs perhaps.”

“Yeah, I hope so too,” you say.

All of you have gathered at the fair grounds now, happy and giddy. Your tanks were on display for the spectators to see which tanks got the most damage in, taken. Again however, you are declared the Match MVP.

And because of that, Griselda awards you 1,000 dollars.

This is a good idea, but I think we can do that after a break first. We haven't been the best person to Griselda. In addition, we should probably give some pats on the back to Serafina as well.
