Blue Moon. It benefits from AV more because it wants to play the long game and just outdraw you while they're drawing blank cards they can't cast because of blood moon.

Since the tier list is very early, it's better to consider the following:

>This includes stars like Abzan Company and the more obscure stuff like Mardu.

That doesn't make sense. How is Mardu up there with Affinity, Burn, Infect and Jund?
>>
>>46841254
>What Tier 2 deck do you believe is very powerful in the current metagame and why?
UWR Control. The two most popular decks right now are infect and Affinity and UWR shits on both of them and still has game against the rest of the tier one decks, while at the same time it's worst matchup, tron has been nerfed with the Eye of Ugin ban and isn't seeing a lot of play currently. Though idk how it does against the thopter foundry decks.
>>
>>46843024
>UWR shits all over Affinity
This is painfully true. I've eaten a shitload of pyroclasm/ electrolyze 2-for-one's, and Stony Silence is a BIIITCH. All at the same time.
>>
>>46841254
I'm a big fan of UW Gifts (no Tron, no manarocks). There's definetely potential there and once pros figure out how to play it best, it could become a huge threat to the metagame.

Eldrazi and Taxes also looks surprisingly solid. Thought-Knot Seer remains pretty darn good.

>>
>>46844116
Lingering souls with sword sounds sweet.
Esper I think is really good post-board, but It's too scattershot game one. It's like jund throwing everything at the wall and keeping what sticks, except that it gets to throw goyf, bolt, decay, liliana, terminate, ect- esper gets to throw around 3 pretty good one-drop spells and not a whole lot else.

Well, non-fakes do go up in value. I've got tons of cards that I paid $5-10 for that are worth ridiculous amounts these days.

Then there's shit like P9 that I paid hundreds for and it's worth thousands now.

So yeah, fuck fakes.
>>
Give me one reason to spend 1k on a deck in a format that was supposed to be a cheaper option than legacy.

I can't wait for my new Chinese fakes to get here.

Also, why is playing against blue control the most boring thing on the face of the planet? My Burn gets then to 4 then it's counter the world and life canand my lands disappear and its just endless turns of boredom.

How can anyone enjoy playing like that? People shit on Burn players but holy shit is blue black control fucking boring.

More supported than Legacy as in more stores succesfully feature weekly Modern events than Legacy events, which means you have more use of your cards than Legacy and justifies your purchase.
>>
>>46844796

>>
>>46844796
People actually play it, it's actually possible to brew in it (if you aren't an idiot) and win locally, and it's still around 1/3rd to 1/4th of the cost of Legacy.
>>
>>46844888
>burn

>blue control
Skill based game where you have to squeeze out value to beat them. How bad do you have to be to lose to u/B control? Calling bait now
>>
I've been debating buying Naya Burn, but I don't see it on any results lately. I've always loved Goblins, and I just saw a 100 dollar Modern deck of Goblins go 5-0...

Is this a fluke? Would I just be wasting my time investing in goblins in Modern over Burn?

I'm a new player, I haven't even played offline games yet (just Pauper online). I just want to have fun.
>>
>>46845244
Almost any deck could go 5-0 in a league. The frequency in which a deck does it is more important.
>>
>>46844888
>Also, why is playing against burn the most boring thing on the face of the planet? They just play 1 mana "Deal x damage" spells. There's no interactivity, just turning lands sideways to deal damage and folding to any sort of life gain.

>How can anyone enjoy playing like that? People shit on control players but holy shit burn is fucking boring.
>>
>>46845244
well it is much weaker to sweepers, but if those aren't common in your meta it's probably even better than burn
>>
>>46841254
>what tier 2 deck do you believe is very powerful in the current metagame and why?
Mono Green Eldrazi Tron. It has 95% winrates against control, 80% winrate against midrange decks, and can even beat burn and zoo 60% of the time. Only bad matchups are infect, affinity, and some combo decks (not scapeshift though).

Some Tier 2 decks are better than others in some metagames and usage doesn't always represent their efficiencies in said metagames.

Tiers represent usage. The table you posted even says so.

>>
For anyone looking for good fakes just Google proxy card MTG and look for Chinese sites that show "passes light, rip, and bend tests, blue core" or black if it's an older card.

You can't even tell the difference anymore. Honestly, when was the last time you looked twice at a card in the sleeve for errors? Last time you got deck checked?

It's sad but in this game the player with the most money has the best shot. That shouldn't be. This is why I highly encourage everyone to buy fakes of ridiculously priced cards (dual lands, etc).

No one gets hurt if you don't sell them. Who cares. Wizards? They don't give a shit about you.
>>
>>46846413

>>
>>46847196
Against aggroshits (aka Modern):

Bolt is a Path that doesn't ramp your opponent,
Terminate is extra copies of Abrupt Decay that only hit the cards your opponent is playing and can be theoretically hit by countermagic that doesn't exist in the format,
Kommand is a rape train with no brakes (you could almost random pick any 2 options and get a 2-for-1) while Lingering Souls does precisely dick,
Bob is raw gas that can block something relevant,
and while Meme Rhino can be a closer, Tasigur doesn't do much while Kalitas and PnK/Huntmaster can practically lock the game.

Locally, nothing big with a cheap Goblins deck of course.

I'm just trying to avoid buying fakes.

I have a fair amount of Goblins and res Burn already from Pauper so I'm just thinking cheap.

2-2 tonight with this shitbrew: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/grixis-visitor/

Round 1: 0-2 against Scapeshift. No real side against it, ate shit.

Round 2: 2-0 against janky Mono-R Tremors deck. Burned me to 3 game 1, but manaflooded and didn't recover. Game 2 countered everything with Rune Snag and Snapcasters, then refreshed with Visitor and Tasigur. Closed game with Ral Bolt.

Round 3: 2-1 against Bant CoCo/Knightfall. Game 1 Inquisition'd one Knight and Ashiok'd two. Ashiok and Liliana stalled until I had the mana for Snap/Kommand shenanigans, and just out-valued his creature spells. Game 2 I tapped out on my turn against an empty field and he CoCo Knightfell me. Game 3 I emptied his hand and resolved Consume The Meek against a Knight and two Smiters. Tasigur and Visitor refilled my hand and he couldn't recover.

Round 4: 1-2 against Bant CoCo/Knightfall (again). Was playing against a bud and with 4 packs and two promos guaranteed between us, it was for shits and giggles. Game 1 went to Value Town, Game 2 got Knightfelled, fed game 3 due to play mistakes.

It's a fun deck, and while turn 2 Visitor is just a vanilla beater it turns into Bob very reliably mid-late game. Next test inclusions for the deck will be Kalitas and Pia, in place of Ral Zarek and Ashiok.
>>
>>46849930
I will try and put this more plainly-
you aren't going to build a very competitive deck at your price range. You are going to be able to build a lot of fun jank decks that will be moderately successful at FNM.
you can save money by running proxies.
>>
>>46850007
Yeah I think I'll just have fun with Goblins anyways. I'll be that goblin guy who never wins any game.
>>
>>46849998
Get ral, clique and ashiok out of there. Clique is awful when bolt is this abundant
Run 3 terminate in their place. It's some of the best removal you get. Drop 1 k command, 4 is too much and replace it with terminate to round that to 4.
I like that list, I run a similar one without visitor but 4 av. How is visitor? Does it draw >3 to consider use?
>>
>>46849883
Then Goblins should probably be alright, as long as you aren't dumb about the construction.
>>
>>46850243
>>46850111
8whack lookit up
>>
>>46850191
I ran Ashiok because it's "lifegain" against aggro decks that don't know any better. Filler until I buy Kalitas.
I threw in Ral because with three walkers, why not four? Not a serious inclusion.
Terminate was cut (first from four, then from two) due to a resurgence of Combo/Control in my local meta. Bolt still kills nearly everything, though the Bant beaters were a rude awakening.

Kommand is hands-down the most useful spell in the deck. I would run five if I could. In one game I drew three of them and cast them six times with Tiago and Telepath Unbound. It's a card I'm never disappointed to see.

Visitor (if it doesn't eat removal) usually draws 3-6 cards by the end of the game, and Kommand plays a large part in its ability to do that. The Madness cost doesn't come into play often, but it's still pure advantage when looting with Jace or pitching to Lili. I'm not convinced it's an integral part of the deck, but it's been fun brewing with it.
>>
I appreciate all the help, I'm torn between slowly.... Very slowly, building a modern Burn deck, as I have most of the basic Burn spells already. Another part of me says just make Goblins and play now.

I could of course make Mono red Burn until I can afford Naya Burn.

What would you do?

Looking for some advice on a list, the rest of the internet sucks.

I want to make a Jeskai list with the following creatures:
2 Geist of Saint Traft
4 Snapcaster Mage
3 Restoration Angel
1 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
1 Vendillion Clique

And then a standard control spell-set with 3 AV, 2 SV. I want the long-game power of control with a clock that I won't get flooded with in Geist and the potential for blowout via Kiki. I'm not seeing anyone else put this together yet and I think the light numbers accross the spread can easily be fueled by all the card draw.

Would appreciate anything at this point really, almost got all the cards together before I take it FNM
>>
>>46848448
>>46848556

I have literally no idea what these posters are talking about

Is it normal for people to grab a magnifying glass and examine your cards for extra commas that shouldn't be there?

Why would anybody look close enough to notice these cards are fake? They look fine to me
>>
>>46851809

Geist doesn't seem to synergize with the rest of those cards
>>
>>46852153
When you spend as much time staring at cardboard as us the flaws on those cards are obvious. Maybe not the comma specifically, but things like the cards being off-color, aliasing being sketchy, and a clear dot-pattern on parts of the print are clear indications of counterfeiting.

It's uh, super bad. But for some reason really fun? Also I only have one each of Sword/Foundry so it's really funny if my opponent exiles one.

What do you guys think of the mtggoldfish budget series ?

I'm poor as fuck and I want to build a deck that is not mono red aggro and some of their budget decks seem pretty fun. So, is it worth it ?
>>
>>46853095
My babbys first deck was the mono-w emeria titan list he has on that site. Run me about $120-150.

Never did too well with it at FNM but my LGS has a lot of longtime modern players with established decks jammed full of staples. It had a really fun Jund matchup though.
>>
>>46853095
They are all garbage. You need to save up 1k and then come back. That is, if you can justify spending that much on a fucking card game.
>>
>>46853159
Even in this meta, did you manage to pull some wins outside of your opponents having bad draws ?

If those decks are good enought to have fun times without loosing all the time I'm all for it.
>>
>>46853223
That's just it. He tests them all on MTGO, not in person. The decks are all shit in a real meta. Get 1k then we can talk.

Notice the Goblins guy earlier. Yeah it's a deck but it's shit.
>>
>>46853095
You aren't going to have fun knowing your wallet is getting you all those losses and not your skill. It's a shitty thing to get into. Check out online Pauper if anything.

Yeah. I was able to destroy infect, and most midrange matches were pretty even. I especially loved the midrange matchup since two decks that excel lategame is always fun.
I never top8'd with it, but do you really expect to with mono white?

I say browse until you find a budget list you like and give it a shot. It's good to pick something that you can grow into a better deck.

It's not going to be good in faeries because, unless you have a specific board state, it's dead in your hand. It's too conditional, and faeries decks suffer as it is when you don't have a board state.

I'd stick with counterspells or snappy.
>>
So if I fgt like myself wanted to waste money on building fairies around how much would it cost to get it together for a good build and does anyone have a list.
>>
>>46854170
You'd be looking at around $1100. Someone posted a list in the last thread

Vendilion C, Bitterblossom, and AV are the most expensive MB for how many you need. SB 2 Damnation is also pricy, and EE is like 20 bucks a pop and you'll want at least one.

You'll also want 3-4 Cryptic Command, and 2/3 of both Thoughtseize and IoK. Each goes for about $20.

4 Mutavault, 4 Polluted Delta, 3-4 Creeping Tar Pit will cost more than $200.

Snapcasters can also be played, usually 2.

I think I'll actually put together a Modern fog deck, it might not win all that much but it should add some mixup to FNM. I'll have to try out a mill strategy

and even in case you got reason to believe the card isn't real and there aren't any glaring mistakes like typos - do you really want me to believe you interrupt the match to compare the card to a real one or pull out your flashlight to test the card?

in sleeves and during normal play you wouldn't notice all the bullshit you guys always bring up

also, I prefer people showing up with proxies of 60$ cards than elitist subhumans who want to win by DQing their opponent

Bant Company (Knightfall + Company) looks legitimate. It features a lot of value creatures like Voice and Knight and it even stars a Twin-like finish. It also has pretty nice spells against Affinity / Burn / Infect, such as Path to Exile and Dromoka's Command. The deck should be explored a little more.

It's an infinitely worse value pile than Junk, Abzan coco, Jund or Kiki Chord if it doesn't hit lethal by turn 4-5, only having slightly better game vs Tron since it fetch all Ghost Quarters and maybe even Tec Edges if there's no t3 karn. The combo itself is too easy to disrupt (everything that interacts with Abzan coco sticks + any and all enchantment hate).
>>
>>46855669
Here's the thing, saying:
>whenever someone shows good proxies people instantly state "I would notice"
doesn't magically invalidate the statement. Anyone who plays seriously in sanctioned events will be able to tell all of these are fake. They ALL have the issue of "if you hold them in your hand, you can tell it's a fake right away".

And interrupting the match to give you a game loss and a handicap for the rest of the event is certainly worth it. I'm playing for money here. Besides, I won't call you out on your bullshit right away, I'll just ask to read the card up close and pretend to have a rulings question for a judge in private.

Sure, I can give you the miscut thing in black sleeves. But the color tint is much more severe than you claim. It's easy to tell them apart.

Soul Sisters is probably my favorite "tier 2" deck. I play it almost exclusively. I win most of my FNMs. I don't think it's a tier 1 deck, but it might be now that Eldrazi is gone and creature heavy matchups are a bit more common.
