It allows you to spec skills you have taken as a group without breaking it. Also specialisation interface is worse - check mark covers half of the drop down button. Check mark also doesn't seem to have anything by the way of description that it's for purchasing spec with karma.

Qualities (Perceptive and Catlike) Seem to display twice, once by name and once as a rating modifier in tooltips. Also they do not update the skill value when taken/removed during gen, only after you change rating.

Natural Language doesn't seem to get assigned any more.

Printing is broken but I figure this is known.
>>
>>46832080
I've tried to change the setting in the latest build and it crashed.
And when i restart chummer the options menu is borked
>>
>>46832743
That's... interesting. I assume it works again if you delete the settings.xml file?
>>46832435
Cheers mate, have raised those issues with the branch lead. Shouldn't be too hard to fix.
>>
>>46832080

Allow people to pick primary arm for skills like pistols so that we can default to the stats of a cyberarm of awesome yekka.
>>
>>46832883
I think the current plan is to make it a tooltip?
Left Arm: 8(9)
Right Arm: (12)13
Calculated Average: (10)11
We should probably put something in for hand dominance as well I guess.
>>
>>46832927

Also the way that breaking skill groups in karmagen works is really really wonky right now. I'm not sure how you do you calculations but just breaking a group and adding a specialization should not be calculated like you increased the group and then added the specialization.

Well yeah, but it needs to be a cyberpunk child.
>>
How would a technomancer copy and save a file?

After marking, defusing data bomb, copying the file and decrypting it?
>>
>>46833014

I typically run/play in karmagen games so there are quite a bit of characters running around with less than optimized builds.

They have a shit-ton of skills in the solid but unspectacular range (7-10 dicepools excluding gear) but very few will have dicepools that are above 12-14.

In comparison to /srg/ adept edition builds where people basically tell you there is a need for 18-20 in your primary dicepool they are horribly unoptimized but by some strange reason we seem to have fun games without me having to custom build antagonists because all of the regular opposition is going to get trucked by the PC.
>>
>>46833074

They would just upload it to TM brand cloud storage.

That and most TMs still run around with a commlink so you just transfer the data to your commlink and then transfer it or copy it to a datachip from there.
>>
>>46832080
Choosing skill priorities when creating a new character with sum to 10 gives two different options for A - E priorities.
I checked the core book and RF and both agree with the higher numbers you've listed in chummer (i.e. for A it's 46 skill/10 group, not 36 skill/5 group). Either I'm missing a character creation table (AI maybe?) or this is a weird bug.

Reflex Recorder Optimization doesn't improve defaulting.

Move-by-Wire and Skillwires work even without Skilljack. Skilljack itself doesn't cap skillsoft rating.
>>
>>46833313
Also, knowsofts don't work with skilljack, looks like it doesn't do anything at all.

Why is it so difficult to find a group or someone willing to GM a Shadowrun game, chummers?
I mean this thread is always alive and thriving but I've been having trouble of finding a game for myself for a long time now.
>>
>>46833377
Shadowrun is the third most popular game on roll20, after DnD/pathfinder and Star wars FFG but it only makes up 2.33% of games
Anything not-DnD is incredibly hard to find a game for and GMing shadowrun requires at least some measure of autism.
>>
>>46833377
Because this is an Anonymous board, lots of people who are here have a game, and the most important bit is that we are all in different time zones.

Check the number of posters in any given thread- it's usually around 100 people, gathered from all over the world onto a single Chechnyan basket-weaving board, and many of those posters are the same people each time.

There's just not a lot of players of RPGs in general, and even fewer who want to deal with the mess that is Shadowrun.
>>

Something janky with the street scum option. Doesn't do it in master, I'm tinkering with the code now to see what's what. I think I've fixed this before.
>>46833313
Huh, reflex recorders are supposed to do that? Hrmn.
>>46833349
That I can't replicate.
>>46833377
It's a game that requires a lot of planning and improvisation on the part of the GM and the players. Groups that click with that tend to stick together, so they don't need to recruit new members very often. Roll20 games tend to get a hundred-odd applications whenever they open up. Runner Hub on Reddit's okay if you're cool with Shadowrun of the Week.
>>
>>46833426
>reflex recorders are supposed to do that?
Not reflex reorder itself, but rr optimization genemod improves defaulting for skills in the same skillgroup.
>>
>>46833426

Not the recorder itself, but gene mode for it, it's supposed to remove defaulting from all skills in the same skill group as your recorder

>>46833426
Hey Yekka, will you ever add a search bar to the skills for EZ access while playing? Assuming that isn't planned or something.
>>
>>46833926
A better system would be the option to sort skills by rating.
Since you're going to be using the skills you have ranks in the most, it makes sense to be able to order them based on how many ranks you have.
>>
>>46833941
Yeah, sorting skills would be amazing.
>>
>>46833926
You can set the drop down on the skill page to sort by skill type, skill group, attribute, and by points placed into the skill.

On the other hand, you likely know the location of all the skills that you check most often, but a search feature that helps you find your Free-Fall skill (which you never need until suddenly you do) when you have no idea where to start would be handy.
>>
>>46833926
It's not something that's ever been on the list, but that's not particularly difficult to do. How would you want to see it? Just as a filter, or highlighting the appropriate control? As is you should be able to use the dropdown on the top right to sort by type, skill group, attribute, etc.
>>46833903
Kinda sorta; I'm really not happy with how infected are working at the moment (Mostly the things that the quality does is a massive conflict with how the code works) so I keep umming and ahhing about how to handle it. Stupid stat reductions.
>>
>>46833975
>Bullet encoder
Can I set it to encode my bullets in .mpc format with softsubs?

As for your post, I dunno man, you make know the location but if you need to double check the value you still need to scroll up/down to find it, whereas a sorting system would have everything in one place. I don't think a search is really necessary, considering how the skills are alphabetical anyway.
>>
>>46833985
Yeah a filter would do, though the dropdown is fine and all until like what >>46833975 says.
>>
>>46834002
>>46833985
There is already a filter on the skill page. It is the drop down menu near the top that says Show All Skills.
>>
>>46833975
>rifle of grenade explosion of air
What did they mean by this?
>>
>>46833985
I'd love to see custom sorting by column. Like being able to chose priority of the sort(attribute vs rank vs name sort of thing). But for quick and dirty, just being able to sort by attribute and rank as opposed to alphabetical only would be very handy. Filters already help a lot, but this would be swell.
>>
>>46834018

But the sorting features are already in Chummer. I chose Free-Fall because off the top of my head (and I suspect most other people's heads) the sorting wouldn't help because they would not know how to start sorting- Is it in Body, Agility, Intuition maybe? It's Body. Is it in a skill group? It's not The best guess most people would have is that it's probably in the Physical Active section It is

Scrolling is available anyways, but if you know what skill you need but not where to find it then a search lets you jump right to it.
>>

>sort by type, skill group, attribute, etc.
Would it be possible to add one for "sort by dicepool" or "sort by rating"?

>>
>>46834082

Adding a new filter takes 30 seconds as the code is now. Adding parameters (name), the biggest challenge is making the UI look decent.

Sorting might or require a semi major rewrite of the display, even if it would be useful.

>>
>>46834380

Easier than sorting?
Quite a lot.

Easier than filter? No, the filter can already do "everything" provided that the code is there, but I would need to duplicate that functionality.

As an alternative to sorting, would filter on rating/dicepool equal/above/below number be usable or just clutter options?

I feel that it would not be very useful unless you could set a number. If you could set a number it would be a decent solution, provided that the choice option doen't clutter UI much

Yeah, when talking about Priority gen. What this sentence means is that you can buy skillgroup in it's entirety with skill group points, then break it and add a spec for karma. You can't however break it up during main part of the priority gen, thus preventing you from mix and matching skillpoints and skillgroup points.

Since the conversation is about karmagen, that sentence would be pointless. What you are saying is that every time you want to pick up 6 skills in karma gen and spec them you pick them at a discount for being a skill group, and then spec them with karma, thus receiving both the benefit of discount and the benefit of speciality. Now I'm pretty sure this case is not specified in Karmagen description, because that description is crap. Making what is described above possible would mean that unintuitive course of action is the beneficial one which seems like something that doesn't make sense.

But I'll concede that under RAW I was wrong since it mentions that it should be treated as standard career advancement.

Hey /tg/, the GM and one of the players in my Thursday night game got into a HUGE argument that detailed most of the session.

The Redmond Barrens are a shitty place, this is universally agreed upon as fact, but is it shitty enough for the GM to rule that everywhere outside touristville has a background count? If so, how significant of a background count is appropriate for the area? At what point are you "gimping" the wizard by forcing him to operate primarily in an area where he's constantly suffering dice penalty?

Related question: should deckers in the barrens suffer noise penalties? How bad should those be?

Gimping a character for an entire session is something that should be handed out lightly. If the GM wanted to make mention of how horrible and dirty the astral is in the barrens or whatever, that's cool; Dice pool penalty's are another thing entirely.

Honestly, everywhere is going to have a background count. Mages will just probably be fully attuned to their major areas of operation and mostly for nearby places.

Unless, of course, the count was a new thing. (Good news for the barrens, the count's probably already violent enough that short of a blood or toxic taking up residence, the things that would shift the count are really easy to see and avoid.)

As for noise, the barrens normally have two points of static noise. So Signal Scrub, super-elf-ear-looking cyberears with two antennae, or a datajack and one point of noise reduction (for an RCC), will get rid of it.

Street Grimoire, pg. 31, Background Count inset
>RATING 4-6
>Significant but brief emotional experience shared by a large group of people (more than fifty) or steady emotional or magical impact over several years. Examples include magical universities, sold-out rock concerts, high security prisons, recycling centers, or alchemist or talisman shops. Cities that have heavy pollution or places with a dense population living in misery can also spawn this level of background count.

RAW it seems like the Barrens would have an appreciable background count, but there's also acclimatization rules.

Also, the Barrens would have a fair amount of noise (at least 2 die, I'd say) because they've got shitty infrastructure. Easy enough to deal with, just an extra hassle and a reminder that you're outside of perfect conditions.

While they're certainly miserable, Redmond's population is not particularly dense. I think the 4-6 background count would be more appropriate to something like SR:HK's Kowloon Walled City (without the extra fuckery from the Yama-Kings).

Hey, /srg/. Do any of you play an operator? Do you operate operationally? Tell me stories about times you planned something, stuck to it, and it went perfectly, cause I need ideas.

I already got Small Unit Tactics for those chuck and charge strats.
>>
>>46837671

The hell are you talking about? A human or elf adept can do 10P Ap -3 with a katana, no trouble. 6 STR + Critical Strike (blades).

Or is having a loli with STR 6 not okay?

Also, as >>46838152 brought up, monowhips, monochainsaws, and shock gloves are great for low-strength melee builds.

>Chainsaw for reference.
>>
>>46838665
Do not engage in a firefight with the enemy. If they get to use an action to shoot at you, you are already not operating hard enough.

If you cannot set it up in such a way that you can kill everyone in a surprise round, use grenades, lots and lots of grenades. Flash Grenades for when you don't want to destroy the building in the process. Flash and shoot.
>>
>>46838665
Once we had to rescue a contact from a Russian mob operated black site prison.

How we ended up doing it was with an Earth spirit that tunneled underneath their barracks. Then I planted like 10 HE grenades under the foundation. I glitches on my roll so those were way too many.

Then we had the spirit tunnel into the cell building. Disabling all electronics that would detect us, naturally. Our Cybertroll used his spear to instakill the guard (high agility makes you also good at stealth). We only had a short window before we got made after that, so we went back into the tunnel when the mage noticed that there was another earth spirit who had noticed us. He put up magic barriers in the tunnel and we triggered the grenades. It completly cratered their barracks, and chunks of concrete hit the cellblock above us, naturally the tunnel collapsed, but our earth spirit was high force and could quickly remake them. The other earth spirit vanished. Either their mage got pulverised or he recalled it.

What happened next was not part of the plan. A high force mage we had previously watched being delivered to the site got out of his mage jacket/hood. There were no survivors.

I play a rigger who -wants- to operate. But he's fat and has the little chicken legs.
>>
>>46838665
So, we needed to steal a giant metal box. Filled with mechanical parts. A 3D printer expy. It's weight was in tonnes. We had no mage to summon a fuckoff spirit.

When scouting the area we kinda got spotted. Our stealthy guy fucked up his stealthy roll and had to distract guards, while our decker was sneaking in and doing his job. So the idea was to make the printer stop working and thus make people stop caring about what's up with it. Long story short it worked. We now needed to get the box outta there. Doing so midday wasn't an option, because hey people work there. They may have stopped using da box cause it's broken and maintenance has more important things to do this week, but they still use all the other equipment in the building.

So doing it at night was the obvious choice. Problem tho, face was a moron and didn't disguise himself during the midnight scouting. Go figure night shift guards were already on high alert and sneaking past them every night with heavy equipment wasn't exactly possible. That's when we came up with an idea...

This day the nigh shift received orders from above to take a paid vacation, courtesy of the decker. And when the day shift was ready for a guard change black wan rolled up. 4 heavily armed and armoured men stepped out of it. Gave their credentials as guards for properties on high alert, exchanged pleasantries and sent the day shift to go home. Needless to say the security team consisted of 4 shadowrunners with clumsily put together/stolen/manufactured uniforms and IDs. And the wan had the logo plastered on it only this morning. And paint job wasn't exactly stellar. And yet, tired day shift guards didn't care much about any of it, poor bastards just wanted to go home.

Dismantling that box took about a week. After the first day shift guards pretty much accepted us as a norm.

>>46838665

Operators operating operationally is of limited interest to me at this point because why play an 80s fantasy-cyberpunk game if you are just going to turn it into counter-strike.

That being said my games seem to be only partially pink mohawk so there is some level of operator shenanigans.

Typically the PCs more or less try to get decker overwatch established ASAP and use the security measures of a facility against any potential response forces. Take control of any security cameras or security doors or automated defenses.

Spydrones are also critical because they can give you situational awareness and often you can bypass most encounters if you have enough situational awareness.

If you have to engage in a firefight then the goal is to go hard and silent or if that's not possible go hard and have something like a drone covering your back so that you can steal the mcguffin and get out.

Basically the major idea of operating is that you want to get in and out with minimal trauma to yourself or the target. Get in and take out the cancer (if wetworking) or steal the shit and get out. The best operation is completely quiet.

Needless to say this is also fucking boring because if you are playing a Big Fucking Troll with a heavy machine gun and a gyromount arm sometimes you want to go full Vasquez and blow up some shit so I prefer games with some operator shit and lots of mohawk shit.

Troll can be doing 25+ from gen, alas this is rarely a good idea. Look around, there are things that boost damage, AP, and pmuch anything a combat monster needs to succeed. If you can't get damage that you like, get dicepool to the point where you can split your dice and still hit with both attacks, or get so much initiative that you make 2 more passes than all the sane people. Just because a troll could do more damage doesn't mean that 10P AP -3 is inadequate.

That's strong enough to drop most targets in 2 hits and plenty of softer targets in 1. Play with solid Initiative, high Edge, and Finishing Move so you'll be able to tear up the tougher targets before they can act.

Don't forget that net hits add to your effective damage. Trolls have an AGI penalty, whereas elves have a higher AGI cap.

And once again, the monofilament whip doesn't care about strength. A loli adept with a monofil whip is very easy to make effective. It's 12P AP -8!

I apologize if I came off harsh earlier. I offer this adorable catgirl as a gesture of goodwill.

I think it's easiest to build and play combat characters (sammies or adepts) than digging into the matrix, magic, or rigging rules.
>>
>>46839704

You weren't mean, the poster you quoted was. And I know that STR isn't everything, but between high STR, EDG, BOD, AGI and passable INT and REA leaves few points for cha. And all lolis are very cute, so they need to have high cha to represent that.

Also you likely need high magic, which will kill your skills. But that monowhip loli does sound great, I'll have to tweak around to see if I can make her work.
>>
>>46839582

SR archetypes:

Casual Mode-
Sammies
Adepts with static bonuses
Rockers or Edgemonkey builds

Somewhat Involved
Adepts
Faces
Blast Sorcerers (basically focused on Combat Spells and maybe some utility)

Complicated
Mages with access to Astral and Metaplanes
Deckers
Riggers (assuming no custom Drones/vehicles)

Holy Shit what are you doing?
Deckers + Foundation hacking
Riggers + Custom rules
TMs (mainly because they are excessively complicated and pretty much shit)
AIs (NOPE!)
Infected other than Ghouls

Personally I encourage people to start playing the game with a casual mode archetype until you get an idea of how meatspace combat works before adding in matrix, rigging or magic.

Yeah Rockers might as well be Faces but let's be honest most faces these days tend to be bio-adepts and those are slightly more complicated.

Plus the adept powers they normally take are slightly more complicated than static modifiers.

In contrast even a Rocker Adept is still going to largely built around being an edgemonkey plus massive attribute scores and a crazy performance skill.

First up: Smiling Bandit

On Skillsofts

>Would you believe me if I told you that the same arguments against skillsofts were made against almost every innovation in information storage throughout human history?

>Their trust in writing, produced by external characters which are no part of themselves, will discourage the use of their own memory within them. You have invented an elixir not of memory, but of reminding; and you offer your pupils the appearance of wisdom, not true wisdom, for they will read many things without instruction and will therefore seem to know many things, when they are for the most part ignorant and hard to get along with, since they are not wise, but only appear wise.

>Even the Matrix was thought to be detrimental when it was first introduced. There were countless news articles asking "Are search engines making us stupid?" or "Is the Matrix making us incapable of Empathy?"

>These arguments tend to assume that the outliers are indicative of the whole population. I'm in favor of playing it safe, but if someone decides to ignore their commonly used skills for activesofts, that's a personal decision. Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes.

>I certainly don't think that skillwires are any sort of panacea, nor do i think the abilities they convey are reliable enough to be suitable for serious shadow work, but they can certainly help fill gaps in a skill set. I know plenty of skillwire enhanced runners who use activesofts for skills they don't use in combat or for (emergency) vehicle piloting. Sometimes you need to steal a helicopter and you just don't have a pilot.
For myself, I think if you need to rely on a skill often, there is no substitute for practice.

On Fossil Fuels in the Sixth World (in case people wonder if they can do Big Oil in Payday.)

>The "different story" he's referring to is the oceans. There's an untold amount of mineral/metal concentrations lying on the ocean floors. Seawater also contains a large amount of dissolved or suspended metals that the corps are rabid to acquire. Several of the Megas (notably MCT) have been developing deep-sea drones for ocean floor mining. Also, i recently got hold of an Universal Omni document which describes a bacteria capable of precipitating minerals from seawater. So far, their experiments don't seem to be going well, but i might leave them alone after I've given more thought to how this will affect the larger ecosystem.

>Ares has also been taking advantage of the fact that metallic meteorites often contain mineral compositions not commonly found in the parts of the Earth we can easily mine. There's also the possibility that someone will finally perfect beamed energy transmission. If that happens, solar energy could be harvested more effeciently from outside the atmosphere and beamed back to Earth. Any corp with a space program may soon find themselves in a very powerful position when it comes to energy production.

On Ware and medicine

>Prosthetics are fantastic and i hope, in the future, they (responsibly) become less damaging to the patient's Essence. I'm not one to debate the merits of allowing augmented people to compete against people without them, but i can't be against a technology that exists to restore lost limbs to people that want or need them.

>Vaccinations: Properly handled, these can be used to completely eradicate virus strains from the Earth. They also drastically improve quality of life in entire regions and, these days, we have so many different types that the risk of a negative reaction is less than a tenth of a percent. I'm less enthused about the corps pricing and distribution. There are still strains of incredibly deadly diseases running rampant in the world that could easily be eradicated if the corps weren't so concerned with their profit margins.
>>
>>46840620

>Corrective Gene Therapy: This one is a bit of a sticky subject. I do not, under any circumstances, support eugenics. I support voluntary corrective gene therapy that is undertaken without any form of coercion. Making things available to people who want/need them is perfectly fine, but i don't want to live in a world where someone other than a patient gets to decide what needs to be "corrected" and when. Pre-natal gene therapies are an entirely different can of worms that I'm not sure we'll find a solid answer to anytime soon. I can certainly understand the desire for parents to ensure the health of their children, but these types of things have a nasty way of setting ugly precedents. Disabilities come with too much social stigma as it is, I hesitate to create more. Not to mention the nightmare of a world where metahumans are forced to become more "human" through gene treatments meant to "cure" their metatype.

>Geological/Environmental Restoration: The world is only about 10 days away from famine if production is interfered with. This is largely because the production of the worlds food supply is in the hands of corps that own what little is left of the planets arable land. I would love to see more of this, but it really doesn't suit corporate interests to spend money restoring an area unless they have already the means of profiting from it at the same time. Sader-Krupp and Proteus have the means to do it and have been slowly restoring sites that suite their interests. It's just never enough for me

boxes are a health bar, they are, well your Hit points. They just happen to fill in instead of getting spent, because for every 3 filled boxes you get a -1 penalty on vast majority of actions.

Armor is important for damage resistance tests, thats when you are about to take damage (not get hit) you roll Body+Armor+modifiers (generally speaking, there is a shit load of exceptions) and reduce damage you'd take by how many hits(5s or 6s) you rolled

>Why it isn't spelled out?

First up, read the combat chapter.

Here's a brief overview.

You get shot at by an AK, which has 10P and AP -2

You're wearing an armor vest, so 9 armor.

Your opponent gets two hits when he's rolling to hit you. You're unlucky and only get 1 hit on your defense test (REA + INT). He wins the opposed test with 1 net hit.

He adds his net hits (in this case, 1) to his damage for a modified DV of 11 AP -2. This is the damage you'll be resisting with your Armor + your Body.

We'll say you have 3 Body. Since the gun has AP -2, your effective Armor rating is 7 instead of the usual nine. You roll 10 dice, and each hit reduces the damage (11) you're taking.

You roll average and get 3 hits. You need to mark 8 boxes on your Physical Condition Monitor. Luckily your 3 Body means you have 10 total boxes, so you're not unconscious and dying yet. Unluckily you're hurt and have to apply a Wound penalty to everything you do (except resisting more damage).

If you already had some damage on your Condition Monitor, it will probably be full, which means you're now unconscious and in overflow damage.

If you were wearing an armor jacket and a helmet (14 Armor) in this situation, your Armor (after AP) would have been greater than the modified DV (11P) and the damage would have been reduced to Stun damage and applied to the Stun Condition Monitor. There will still be Wound penalties, but you're much less likely to die from Stun damage.

There's a very good overview of this whole process on page 173 of the core book.

But seriously, read the combat chapter.

Drugs are good, if you can resist or deal with addiction tests. Otherwise I prefer synaptic boosters, even if they cost fuck loads of money.
But Move By Wire will always be my favorite, even if it's not really usable.
>>
For a PC, what's the standard Force you should be summoning spirits at? 4? 5? I know unless you really need something done, you shouldn't be doing it at a Froce higher than your Magic 'cause of the Physical drain
>>
>>46842339

There's a few ways to do it. Cyberarm/Cyberleg of Doom can be viable, as can the simple Muscle Augmentation + Bone Lacing/Density build.

High Agility is important both to hit and close the gap, so Muscle Toner is also a good call. If he really wants to GO FAST, then skimmers are an option.

Shock Gloves (or Shock Hands!) are great.

>>46842416

Depends. Bare minimum to be a "combat character" is generally 11 on a minimum roll to guarantee that second pass. Loltroll builds or sniper builds that drop somebody every pass need less initiative than a combatant who's more likely to need two hits to down an enemy combatant.

As for boosts, Cram is the cheapest way to get an extra ~4.5 to your initiative rolls for an entire run.
>>
>>46842514
Depends on the task, really. If it's for combat, make it equal to or more than their magic. Everything else, 3 or 4 should do it.

In general, the break point for high force is 4 because that's about the point where most magic allowing municipalities want to license things.

Incidentally, this is where they start to become increasingly invulnerable to arms fire. At 4 it's mostly small arms used by low end people, but then again most people are low end. (And even if it's strong enough to get through, the spirit automatically takes two less damage.)

>>46842514
If you have Spirit Whisperer, you want almost exclusively 3 or 6. If you don't, then four for minor stuff and six if it's important.

For spirit whisperer, you're getting a four which is great for taking care of low level mooks or a seven which should scare anyone not a major threat. (14 hardened armor, takes 4 less damage from any non-magical weapon that does deal damage.)

Non-spirit whisperer gets the same power for (potentially) more risk or less power for the same risk. But it's still not what anyone wants to face down.

>>46842508
>synaptic boosters
Those are so fucking good.
There's another bioware one that ALSO improves reflexes, but seems worse in every way. Why ever go for it instead of the synapses? just because it's cheaper?
>>
>>46842830

Boosted Reflexes is the cheapest permanent boost to Initiative out there. It's a quick and dirty upgrade for anybody that just needs that +1d6.

It's nearly an order of magnitude cheaper than Synaptic Boosters.
>>
>>46842902
but you can never upgrade it.
>>
>>46842914

Yep. It's still dirt cheap, though.

Sup /srg/,

I just got into a Shadowrun roleplaying game for the first time.
Thing is, I'm playing a "heist planner."

However, the first session turned out poorly as a discret kidnapping turned into a serial murder and a blown up building...
How does one make a plan... without knowing anything in advance? What are the unwritten rules about burglary that always applies?

I did get some good tips in another thread:
>Gather data. Loads of data.
>Have multiple backup plans.
>Have diversions
>Try and have multiple avenues of escape
>Always try and work out who's going to win and lose if you complete a job - follow the money
>Be ready for your Johnson to betray you
>Expect things to go wrong
>Be ready for the target to be worth both a lot less or a lot more than you thought
>Consider running multiple sides, or trying to find multiple people who want a job done.
>Do not get caught doing that.
>Consider the value of helping someone prevent a robbery - that you would do, or so you know the layout
>Your rep is extremely important
>Be cool, business is business (and action is action)
>Never deal with a dragon

Now, these are great, are there more things I should think about when planning a heist?
>>
>>46843916
That might be a good idea.
Because boy, will ODs be a thing that can happen.

Too much like Electric Mayhem. Maybe just 'Electro'? Or turn it into two different drugs, Electro and Mania, that have minor effects on their own, but when you mix them together they're greater than the sum but more harmful.
>>
>>46844043
Most of the stuff I think of for shadowrun actually came from a class called ethical hacking. Mostly computer focused but had a section for physical security.
heres some others:
>weakest link in IT and drug dealing is user error. dont deal with idiots.
>unless the job calls for it, try to stick to a quiet non-violent gig
>always have plan B and a plan "Fuck it"
>if the target is magic, tech, or physical focused, ones of the other two avenues will be weaker.
>tie off loose ends.
>Better them than you
>try to make every defeat into a small victory. Yea, they got the hard drive, but we have the files. They might have the target, but they dont know its the target.
>Never do anything for free. Just asking for trouble later.

Someone tell me how the hell to deal with drones. It seems the rigger is outclassing everyone just by virtue of having lots of drones with lots of firepower, thermal smoke, and ultrasound. Jam the shit out if them. Block them in with security doors. Hit them with a truck. Snag the fliers with nets.

Drone Swarm is good but it can totally get fucked over by a good spider.

It also tends to be very expensive over time as unless you are really free with the cash it's hard to keep up with blown up drones.

Also heavy weapons and spirits tend to cut through drones like nobody's business.

So I'm new to the system and am making a face/fist Adept hybrid in the same vein as the Joestar family. I already have Commanding Voice so I can do 'your next line' shenanigans and was wondering, would Elemental Strike: Light ever be worth it?

I figure flavorwise it'd fit Hamon great, and I think would be effective against vampires and other assorted night terrors, but would it be useful against anything else really, or should I stick to just getting more points in critical strike like my original plan was.
>>
>>46846216
Depends on if your group is pink Mohawk or not
>>
>>46846248
>Elemental Strike: Light
I'm not familiar with that. Would your punches work like a flashbang? or be like holy/positive energy? anti-radiation?
>>
>>46846296
Here's the text from the street magic book:

>Light: Spells with a light effect damage the target with a searing flare. Light damage is treated as Physical damage and is resisted with half Impact armor (rounded up). The brightness of the Light effect will cause any targets to suffer a Glare modifier for one Combat Turn after the attack, unless they are equipped with flare compensation. As a secondary effect, Light damage may cause some highly flammable materials (like gasoline) to catch fire.

Which does bring me to a 2nd question. When it says resisted with half impact armor, does that mean they only get half their armor to save against it, or does that mean it always does half its damage? Like I said, I don't know the system much yet in regards to combat.
>>
>>46846216

It's not great and certainly not optimized (honestly life modules were poorly designed) but it can be fun as long as you mainly focus on short hacks like the equivalent of smash and grab missions or you hack from on-site.
>>
>>46846296
Holy shit, could you use this to mess up fiber optics?
>>
>>46846358
Is this 3e? The current version is 5e
>does that mean they only get half their armor to save against it
Back in 2e you would halve their impact armor.
I have 10 impact armor
I get hit with a 10M attack that halves impact armor
I resist a 10M attack with 5 impact armor
I resist a (10-5)M attack
I resist a 5M attack
>>
>>46846475
or use it to send messages/control shit via fiber optic
>>
>>46846537
>is this 3e?
4e is they system we're doing.

And that's cool as hell in regards to impact armor. Guess I might just get Hamon after all.

>>46846563
That would be a rad as hell application.
>>
>>46846563
I kinda doubt a blinding blast of light would be controlled enough to send a message, assuming you knew how to encode FO signals manually.

There was a Shadowrun novel (The Lucifer Deck) that involved a free light elemental that could travel through the fiber optic lines to hit matrix data. It apparently hurt like fuck, so it would only spend a fraction of a second inside, but it completely scrambled optical storage and communications.
