>>

At least the cutscenes art is eye-gasmic.
Also Eldar are a nightmare
>>
>>46820872
What's going on that's so bad. For me everything has been working alright so far. AI isn't suicidal but they aren't kicking my ass in either, which is as it should be for normal difficulty.
>>
What's the appeal of PvP vs AI in this game? I'm terrible at RTSs and playing skirmish is fun until you hit 8 and there are basically no incentives to keep playing, but I don't want to get smashed and deathspiral'd in MP.

Also how does cogitator work? Playing eldar without it seems like it would be a clusterfuck. If only you could select mission points so you can just have 2 or 3 ships.
>>

Press space bar to cogitator.

MP is fun because you can have salt from human players.
Also, human players can be either harder or easier than A.I opponents.

Just play MP anon. It's a lot of fun, the matches are quite quick and there is some kind of hidden MMR so if you are not very good you shouldn't play too much against people who are.
Deathspirals aren't really a thing until you hit the higher ranks and are constantly given 600 or 700 point games. For ranks 1-4 they don't really exist.
>>
Fuck that I aint playing until they fix the AI having stupid amount of points even on normal. barely get one battle cruiser, two cruisers and one light against chaos that somehow gets 6 heavy ships and shitloads of escorts

Why not Engine?
>>
>>46822641
This issue didn't crop up in the Beta.

The problem is they did a patch just for release and must've fucked some shit up.
>>
>>46822997

cuz it's just an engine.
>>
Assassination against Orks in the campaign is fucking ridiculous.

The AI point advantage completely fucks you as the IN
>>
>>46822997
Engine for motive power in realspace, generator for warp, where relative velocity doesn't matter and only gellar fields do.
>>
>>46822997
The thrusters on the back of the ship play no part in tearing a hole in real space into the Immaterium.
>>
I really like how some of the upgrades are more faction specific now.
>>
>>46823153
But wouldn't the ship just sit there in the Warp without its engine?
>>
>>46822651
Every game I get is against fucking orks.

Can easily win every time by just kiting their ships and sending in bombers, but I feel bad so I just send my ships in to their doom half the time.
>>
>>46823222
Why would physics matter in the warp, famalam?
>>
>>46823305
>Can easily win every time by just kiting their ships and sending in bombers, but I feel bad so I just send my ships in to their doom half the time
I get that way too.
>>46823321
Because wouldn't you still need to go forward in the Warp?
>>
>>46823321
Because the gellar field drags a bubble of real space physics into the warp along with your ship.
>>
>>46823358
Warp engines and real space engines do different things but they both move the ship.

Is there anything more satisfying than crippling an Eldar shitbucket and then ramming it to pieces? I think not.

Though a massed Nova Cannoning on clumped enemies that manages to hit is orgasm inducing.
>>
>>46823444
What, go forward and leave the Gellar field? That sounds like a great idea, Einstein.
>>
>>46823701
I find blowing out the engines of ork ships to be more satisfying.
>>
>>46823761
Now that's just cruel
>>
So is there no way to invite a friend to a game? I have to try my luck at randomly playing with him?
>>
>That mission where you have to defend Hand of Darkness.

Is this shit even possible?
The defense target always dies on the 3rd wave. I have seen up to seven chaos ships spawn and attack it.
>>
>>46823851
i just did the mission anon, rememeber, ram the fuck.

5 light chaos escorts?
5 ram targets
2 larger chaos ships?
2 larger ram targets.
>>
>>46823851
You have to literally make a protective wall out of your own ships around it. No flying around, just static gunning.
>>
>missions force you to split your deployment points with computer "allies"

Oh god, this makes easy shit nearly impossible.
>>
>>46823851
I just did it first go not two minutes ago. I was even using a Dictator.
I stasis bombed the clusters of escorts and let the Retribution tear them apart with its lances while I chased the cruisers and light cruisers liberally applying torpedoes and ramming.
>>
Any idea of how many planets lost at any one time is good/bad.

I'm on turn 16 with 13planets lost on ironman hard.

I blame the orks.
>>
Do each of the races get their own campaign or is it just the Imperials?
>>
>>46823994
Each race did not fight their own Gothic War.
>>
>planetary assault at the start of act 2
>300 points
>take 2 dauntless light cruisers and a pair of firestorms.
>split my ships to cover ground
>AI takes gothic cruiser and assortment of escorts
>watch as AI escorts get blown to shreds
>AI cruiser takes out a platform and just sort of drifts down the middle, doing nothing
>I boost all over the fucking place to get the bombardment locations, while also killing a few escorts

Then the computer rubs salt in the would and gives half the renown to shitlord spasmodicus.

Oh well, at least the inquisitor babysitting one was fun. It certainly ramps up the difficulty having to put up with daft AI though.

How's everybody else doing? I'm on turn 8 and so far I've only lost one fight, narrowly missing out on killing that Eldar prick.
>>

>SM strike cruiser shows up in missions with space marine allies
Neat.
>>
>Playing Eldar against IN AI
>Nova Cannon kills 4 hemlocks cause I stopped paying attention for a moment
Don't bunch up if they might have an NC. Gotcha. Lesson learnt.
>>
>>46823851
You don't have to kill the third wave, just keep it at bay for like a minute and the Retribution will warp out. Doable if you managed to kill the first two waves quickly so the Ret still has a lot of health left. Then just throw some ships either way to throw the incoming waves into dissarray (and ram some escorts to death) and you'll get it done.

>>46824178
Mine brough a Dauntless and an Overlord and actualy did semi-decent job holding down two heretic cruisers while my two cruisers murdered a Hellbringer and a bunch of escorts and defense plattform on a jolly romp between nuking some more heretics off the face of the planet.

It has. Part of it is that it's pretty hard to budge a same-weight ship unless you hit it at a good angle and speed. Scraping along his side in a shallow angle and low speed won't do shit, you wnat to hit him in at lose to 90° and with the engines on All Ahead Full. Do that to a smaller ship and hit retros after impact and you can kick them a good distance.

Also, Ork rams can be dodged pretty reliably by just going AAF or on retros depending on the angle the Orks are coming in.

Yeah no shit, thanks for pointing out the most obvious thing in the world. Too bad I hit him within a deviation of 5 degrees of that at AAF and he just kept heading straight forward as if nothing happened. These convoy missions are garbage and need to be removed from the game.
>>
How do I stop people from just ramming my fleet away as eldar? mass swords is just impossible to run from

Uh huh. Cool story. More likely you just miseed narrowly and scraped along the side. Hitting a same-class Ork vessel full-on will push him a bit.
>>
Am I going mad but did they make MWJ disk size fucking massive? Can't do a jump if there's even one escort running around the area.
>>
>>46827472

Yeah nice job parroting the same bullshit the game tells you in the first convoy mission. Too bad splitting them up doesn't work any better than putting them in a line and burning them straight to the goal. In fact, I've had more success doing that then splitting them up. Try pulling your tongue out of Tindalos' collective ass for a minute and realize a shit mission type when you see it?
>>
>>46827500

They fucked with it in the release patch, yes.
>>
>>46827511

>>
>>46827511
What? No. Split up the damn transports, then move them away from the enemy clumps and haul ass. Shit's not hard.
>>
>>46827586

I have had success splitting up the transports a grand total of once. Meanwhile, by putting them in a line and burning them to the goal on the far side of the map, I can use my Line ships to shield them from fire as well as ramming attempts. The advice they give you in the tutorial is a load of bullshit and you might as well be rolling the dice by doing it.
>>
>>46827511
Yes, yes, I know it's hard to believe and seems like it doesn't make sense but it's really, truly, pretty effective. Once I started doing that convoy escort missions went from 'utterly impossible' to 'tricky, but actually kinda doable'. Further gitting gud got me up to about a 50% winrate.

Now, you can whine like you belong on a steamforum about how the only game mode should be cruiser clash, OR you can suck it up and git gud like everyone else. It's your choice, nobody can make you do either, and we'll probably mock you no matter what you choose.

the splitting up works just fine, except against eldar and chaos. Bunching up is usually a bad idea against IN or orks due to the availability of Nova Cannons and massed torpedoes, but using your ships as a screen is a pretty good tactic I give ya that.

I don't know about AI, it might actually just cheat, idk? But against humans, splitting up your ships (and taking a swarm of escorts) is fucking VITAL.

Put down a few escorts here, a few escorts there, a few transports on either wing, and whatever else you want to be creative.

Then imagine your opponent's face when he rushes a single lightcruiser forward to jump your transports... only to discover that's not four transports, that's four swords, and his cruiser is about to have a very short and unpleasant existence.

So for the Imperium which of the two classes of the battleship available would you say is more user friendly? /v/ is discussing it as well. It's the most productive discussion I've ever seen on there.
>>
>>46828034

The carrier is the Emperor class and the gunship is the Retribution class. The Emperor is, like you said, designed to throw out attack craft. But I believe it actually does *more* damage than the Retribution does in gameplay. Idealy, the Retribution should be a monster, but it is not.

Plus doesn't the Emperor get to call in Cobra destroyers every so often?
>>
>>46828448

8 torpedo tubes.

Whats the best escort choice for the campaign? Torpedo destroyers cause you can slow-mo? maco-cannons to fight off other escorts?

Also remember to put the torpedoes on auto launch and then try to command them around in groups of 3, so they can actually shoot their torps.

Also, remember, whenever fighting Eldar, fire melta torpedoes.

Dauntless mk1 has lances, mk2 has torpedoes, pick the one that suits you most.

>>46830054
I went with macro cannons and nova cannon.
But i suppose pretty much anything goes.
>>
>>46829993
Shouldn't the Emperor-class have more detection rating, given it has the huge amount of sensor-spines sticking from the prow in place of the usual 10-meter thick sheets of adamantium?
>>
>>46830118
It comes as you gain prestiege.
In other words, blow up more ships.

Yes, Dauntless is the only LC you have.
>>
>>46830060
I like the Dauntless better. Poking things with lances is pretty good, you don't have to worry about missing like with torpedoes, and the lance upgrades are better for playing it safe than the broadside upgrades are. Brawling with light cruisers is not great.
>>
>>46829869
Eight torpedoes with the upgrade that makes them travel faster are far more useful than a nova cannon.
>>
>>46830054
They're all okay, it's just that some of them are a little more straightforward to use.
>>
>>46830054
Just pick whatever anon. You end up getting four cruiser slots and the ai isn't smart enough to play around the specific ships you take.
>>
what are the major differences between lances and cannons?
>>
>>46830172
Lances hvae lower damage and slower firing rates but always hit, ignore armour and have higher crit chances.
>>
>>46830172

Lances are fucking worthless and Cannons are objectively superior.
>>
>>46830137
It does, but it's a trait that that screen apparently forgets to take into account.
>>

>>
>>46830172

Lances are better at destroying enemy systems. Macros are for brawling.

>>46830377
sector* rather
>>
>>46830268
>>46830204
>>46830187
>>46830172

Lances always hit, and only counts 25% of enemy armour. This is awesome if you don't want to get close and brawl. It's pretty nice on lighter cruisers and cruisers that you don't necessarily want to park right next to the enemy, and if you need to kite a lot, or fight ships that are more nimble than you.

Lances do less dps than macro weapons up close, but at long enough range the autohit is better.
>>
>>46830377

Do you like the idea of playing multiplayer against people, knowing they'll be salty as fuck when you blow up one of their ships and it has to spend the next couple of games on the bench unless they pay points for it?

If yes, the 30 britbucks is a steal, if no, you should play something else.

I think personally that I'll play it enough that 90 britbucks would still have been cheap, I just wish they didn't have micro warp jumps and bombs, they distract so much from the positioning and orders gameplay.

Ships are able to fly outside of map boundaries as part of their maneuvers, you can't issue movement orders outside of the map but if their course takes them beyond the boundaries they won't slam into an invisible wall.

That's intentional
