It's an interesting concept. All the Space Marine legions, and the Space Marines in them, took on the characteristics of their Primarch. Alpharius and the Alpha Legion represent that taken to the extreme. The ideal of a Legion so unified and committed that the Primarch becomes unnecessary.
So he works thematically, and creates an interesting space to explore how Space Marines might participate in unconventional warfare.
