You can post anything relevant; Courtiers, Locations, Dynasties, Realms et cetera. I'll start us off.

By the standards of the world it is a young court in an old city, the sitting dynasty only came into power two monarchs ago. It was a loyal ally of the old dynasty that was wiped all but clean after [SOMEONE ELSE DO THIS] with the tatters having no male hairs they were rolling into their loyal ally for stability.
The old palace was destroyed in [THE EVENT SERIOUSLY SOMEONE ELSE] and the new one has only just completed and can begin to swell with all the necessary human machinery that a monarchy needs in a centralised location.

The bodyguard of a minor lord discreetly pouring an antipoison into his liege's beverage. Everyone notices, but no one says anything because they're all doing the same.
The court itself is situated in a humongous castle, or better said, a humongous collection of castles, towers and walls, atop a mountain. It was built by a great mage and his apprentices, and they enchanted it in such a way that one who resides within the caste never needs to sleep. Whenever the castle is developed in the tender darkness of the night, it's complete structure changes. It seems to be somewhat camouflaged, with purple lights emanating for it, all but the view from the windows looks the same.

Iscalaso Sancalloni, monk of The Most Devout Order of the St Claus. He is the man in charge of conveying the surviving contents of old the old palace library to the new one where he will then be their caretaker likely until his death. In his cataloguing of the old treatises he has stumbled across a most disturbing set of documents detailing the methods and science behind beseeching the infernal creatures that lie beyond the veil.
More disturbingly their pages contain the details of rituals and experiments carried out over decades ending only with [THE EVENT], forcing him to conclude that the authors or they acolytes may still be alive and still be active. To preserve the legitimacy of the crown he has not publicized his finding but confined them to a secret drawer his quarters where they sit and gnaw at his mind.

For the question of succession what about a form of elective where all Baron and higher titles get some amount of votes but there's heavy restrictions on who can actually be a candidate?
This allows current rulers father to be alive for >>46636021 he was the favourite candidate but something spoiled his chances and made him unelectable. As a ploy he dumped his supporters behind his then child daughter who was originally just an outside hopeful only attractive to those who saw the others as too extreme or too old.
Now she's turning twenty and all to keen to step out of her fathers shadow and assert her own authority.

[THE EVENT] was his fault.
Sir William the Young has fanatically served the spymasters of the court for years, following in his father's footsteps, and to most of the population he may as well be the face of the Circle of Idle Answers. He is known to ride on his mighty eagle across the continent, hunting everything from lost alchemists to unholy insectoid hybrids, always for mysterious purposes. A supremely arrogant man, he is obsessed with always finding bigger prizes to catch, ever hoping to get another feather in his cap.
This is Isaac Klerkse, a courtier serving as representative for his Lord Lauvens. He is the third son of his father, the Steward of the Lauvens estate. His oldest brother is his father's right hand man, destined to become the next Steward. His other older brother is a well-renowned scientist at the Grand Holy Academy, which is in the same city as the palace. They visit together often.
Isaac is a talented courtier, very charming but also shrewd and calculating, and quite hungry for power. He has been forced into a subordinate position to a son of an ally of Lord Lauvens in the court, Peter Rijndel. The great Rijndel family rules over a powerful duchy which controls the wealthiest port city in the realm, Rijndam. The Lauvens, known for the their high quality products of forestry (timber, furs, woodwork, herbs, paper, etc.) export their goods out through Rijndam, and have enjoyed good relations with the Rijndels for many generations. However, Peter Rijndel is not so good a courtier, chosen for his position due to his father's favoritism, and Isaac resents having to serve him. He hopes to have Peter married off to some distant lady or assigned to govern some distant colony to remove him from the court and gain some more independence. While they are technically allies, Isaac is the clearly superior courtier.
Isaac and Peter's other allies are a few other courtiers hailing from the satellite counties of the Duchy of Rjindel, the Master Jeweler, and many of the court's resident poets.

Nobody knows however, for he was able to convincingly frame the previous librarian monk of the Most Devout Order of the Saint Claus, the predecessor to >>46631524 . To this end, he forged and planted papers to serve as evidence that the Most Devout Order did in fact bring about [THE EVENT]. He is waiting to reveal them if he ever gets close to being discovered for his dark experiments, in order to shift any blame away from himself, but is hiding them away in a dusty corner in the library for now. Little does he know, they have been found by Iscalaso Sancalloni, and now reside within his secret drawer. For now, he continues his dark experimentation, wearing the facade of a loyal alchemist servant to Her Holy Magistrate, third of Her Dynasty.
The current Dynasty has surprisingly strong trade, if not political (which in a medieval setting may well be the same thing), ties with the Eastern land [Insert hopefully Arabian Nights style name here], which likes to trade spices and certain dies for the tougher fabrics that are made here in the country. While they don't hold much sway beyond the rather healthy trade, they do their best to keep an ambassador near by.
