What is the best deck to take advantage of Ancestral Visions? If esper guy Is around, could you weigh in on whether or not esper control might consider it?

Anyone think it might be good in taking turns? I've seen discussion over replacing howling mine with it.

No decks really benefit enough from it. "Draw 3 in four turns" is almost always inferior to "Draw 1, Scry 2" at the same cost.

Don't you think that might be putting two different cards in the same catagory? For example, serum visions is draw filtering whereas AV is raw card advantage. The two are used to different ends. Additionally, many people here seem to dismiss AV due to its suspend timer but it it would seem to me that the timer argument is mostly only relevant when it's drawn late game. Do you think that is enough to dismiss the card?
>>
>>46610394
I absolutely do believe the 4-turn timer is enough to dismiss the card over immediate advantage. Turn 1 Serum Visions replaces itself and helps set your turn 2/3 draws. You can suspend AV turn 1 and not even live to see turn 5.
>>
>>46610470
this exactly. as an infect shitter, the thing I'm most excited about for the new format is killing people with a suspend timer or two still on their first turn AV.

>>46610010
I don't think it's right for "classic" draw-go, but I still haven't tested out a Teachings build based on Wafo's extended deck yet.

Something like this:
Card Draw: 11
4 Ancestral Vision
4 Esper Charm
3 Mystical Teachings

Counterspells: 12
4 Spell Snare
4 Rune Snag
4 Cryptic Command

Removal: 8
3 Engineered Explosives
1 Path to Exile
1 Dismember
1 Anguished Unmaking
1 Consume the Meek
1 Fated Retribution

Toolbox/Wincon: 3
1 Snapcaster Mage
1 Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir
1 Linvala, the Preserver

Lands: 26
4 Celestial Colonnade
4 Flooded Strand
4 Polluted Delta
2 Watery Grave
2 Hallowed Fountain
1 Godless Shrine
3 Island
1 Plains
1 Swamp
1 Drowned Catacomb
3 Tectonic Edge

Sideboard: 15
3 Thoughtseize
2 Disfigure
1 Extirpate
1 Celestial Purge
1 Disenchant
1 Pulse of the Fields
3 Wrath of God
1 Overwhelming Denial
1 Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir
1 Aetherling

Card that replace themselves are not Card Advantage.
The most card advantaga like that is think twice and is just cuz flashback
>>
>>46610836
I think he knows that and is simply valuing a smaller effect with immediate results over a larger effect with a significant delay.
>>
>>46610794
EE is sideboard
In removal i would go 4 PtE 4 bolt
Remove 1 spell snare and change the rune snag for a Remand/logic knot combination
At least do space for another snapcaster
If you are splashing black you could go with murderous cut
and add electrolyze in the sideboard for infect and overload for the mirrors
>>
>>46610874
As the major problem is that You need to go long against aggro, i still think UWr is the best shell for AV, it has enough removal for Infect and affinity counting path to exile, bolt and electrolyze

Depens on your meta m8, unless you want to get into high level tourneys. If people at your LGS caught the train early, there might be a couple of Lantern players. How good it is depens a lot on the player in question.

Which deck(s) do you play in Legacy? U/B reanimator here and dredge

Somewhat related question in general, which Modern deck would be closest to the Legacy experience?
>>
>>46612857
No decks in modern are even remotely close. The only thing that kind of maybe is lantern control which resembles miracles.

I thought you played legacy though, in which case why ask?

You're not, I was in the process of buying the deck because I really liked how it got played.

The sad thing is that Mono-B Processor Eldrazi was a really fun deck to play and also powerful, but OGW ruined it with Mimic/TKS/Reality Smasher. If OGW was never released, I think that the Eye of Ugin would still be around.

Too bad DnT plays too different in modern, otherwise I'd probably vote for that in terms of similarity.

High Tide is awesome, though, although I've only ever played against shitters piloting it. It's suffering to lose to High Tide, but it's hell to lose to a HT player who doesn't know how to pilot the deck.

Should I trade a Promo Nicol Bolas for a Xenagos+Ashiok?
>>
Vexing Shusher or Exquisite Firecraft? I need a sideboard slot against all the control decks rearing their ugly head. Im leaning towards Shusher, pile spells in your hand and lands on the field as they durdle and then on the winning turn drop Shusher who cant be countered and if they try to respond with removal just respond with Instants who cant be countered if you pay the extra mana.
>>
>>46615365
firecraft all the way
>>
>>46615365
I never found "can't be countered effects" that necessary. You can easily play around them. But I like firecraft more.

>>
>>46615537

Should I get the Ashiok for a Ingest/Processor deck then?
>>
>>46612857
I'm currently building reanimated. I bought a bug chunk of cards last night. After they get here I'll just need 4x show and tell and 2x JVP to finish it. using shocks instead of duals because poorfag though.
>>
>>46615507

Firecraft it is then. Its cheaper too. Either one will help against the ridiculous onslaught of counters

Honestly fast combo decks are the ones who suffer the least from subbing out duals for shocks. Decks that really get hurt from shocks are Miracles, Stoneblade, Shardless BUG, Delver decks and Maverick

I feel like they hurt reanimator because of griselbrand's life total requurement. Fetch shock reanimate draw 7 puts you to 2 life. That's a bolt/delver swing/DRS activation away from dead. If you don't have to shock they puts you at 4 and you can survive any of those.

I mean, I haven't actually played much legacy yet but I feel like having shocks will make my deck inherently weaker in some games where the life total actually matters

Does this have any potential?, Its uncounterable and can be a copy of your opponent's wincon but bigger. Its also a total midgame blowout with a few mana dorks.
>>
>>46615967
It's usually better to deprive your opponent of their wincon rather than copy it. Aslo you might have a diffecult time copying griselbrand or karn and it's practically useless against an aggro deck with lots of little guys.
>>
>>46615701
Main Engineered Explosives?
Not a fan of JVP myself, but I see him popping up every now and then. He just feels soooo sloooow.
>>
>>46616081
Not him but EE takes care of Chalice so it's reasonable to mainboard in any combo deck that can tutor for it (painter), don't know about reanimator though.
>>
>>46616081
I've seen JVP do some neat things in the games I've watched. The list I'm following actually had 2 EE main 1 side, but I'm going to compromise with 1 main 1 side. It is a nice utility card. I'll adjust my list to my preferences after I get it together and get to play test it a bit.
>>
>>46615967
maybe if it was hexproof and stompy creatures with vigilance were a significant part of the meta. modern removal too strong
>>
>>46615967

I think it's too weak to path to exile, as well as too situational given how many decks run only smallish creatures or even few to none creatures
>>
>>46614489
sideboard 4 revoke existence for tron, 4 sunlances for creature stuff
>>
>>46615365

Vexing shusher is for edh or maybe some weird vintage deck with tons of Green mana

In modern you can't afford to dedicate cards and mana just to stopping counterspells, they aren't common enough

Exquisite firecraft actually does a thing for the mana and card you spend so it can help against control WHILE contributing to your main strategy (I assume burn)
>>
>>46610658
You're a sick man. I love it
>>
>>46615967
I would have prefered if that card had Flash instead of the +X/X, if my opponent has his wincon out I'd rather have a way to deal with it than being able to copy it, specially since this copy won't have haste.

>>46616346
I mostly play with my casual group and draft at my LGS and I'm slowly getting into Modern and other formats, how is "too weak to path to exile" an argument against a creature card? Does a creature really lose value for being vulnerable to removable when most creatures are? Or is that just another way of saying it doesn't cover its cost with an ETB effect before it gets removed?

In Modern no deck absolutely requires resolving a non-instant/sorcery spell (which Boseiju would cover) like Painter in Legacy. If you're playing a pile that isn't either Jund/Tron which should outgrind every control deck or chord combo you can use Thrun, the Last Troll as a beatstick (which was actually a thing in Amulet Bloom vs various control lists and Twin).

So I don't know if this is exclusive to my local meta, or if this is a wider issue, but why do people go out of their way to acquire cards written in foreign (and by foreign I mean asian) languages?

I mean I know people who go to great lengths to acquire these cards over their english counterparts, even though for the most part, they can't read or write the language printed on the card. Is this just because of some eastaboo appeal?

Does this happen everywhere or is it just my local?
>>
>>46617690
It happens here in Spain too, I think it is a way of "pimping" a deck, just like foils, promos and such

>have a Dark Ritual written in an asian language
>chilling at my LGS
>this guy sees it
>"Man, I'll give you anything in my binder for it"

And that's how I got my playset of Bloodghasts
>>
>>46617690
Its a way to pimp out your deck if you don't like foils.

Not sure why making your deck impossible to play against normally is considered cool but whatever floats your boat.
>>
>>46617690
In my LGS people avoid cards in my country's language like the plague (Portuguese) and prefer to have English cards, I on the other hand like to have a large diversity of languages in a deck, I see it as it being the same thing as having 4 of the same card in a deck but having them all be from different sets or have different art style, it's just a way to spice things up and making your deck more appealing.
A few of my friends have asian cards and people don't mind as long as an english translation is shown.
>>
>>46617775
>>46617784

Playing against a deck you don't know full of cards in various languages must be a fucking pain in the ass, now that I think about it.
>>
>>46617690
I only go after different language cards if it's cool as fuck for particular reasons

I picked up a Chinese foil Fiendslayer Paladin because it looks fucking awesome, like a movie poster for a kung-fu movie or something. I also have a foil Japanese Ulamog because Kaiju
>>
>>46617823
God yes. I picked up a bunch of cheap boosters in Japan and a handful of cheap singles. Traded a few to a friend. Now he's running Japanese Venser, and I can never remember the effects since its the only Venser in play this side of the state.
>>
>>46617823
It's not for me since I recognize most cards played in my LGS, most players are new though so they don't, when that happens I have my phone in hand to show them the original card. Most times they just believe me when I tell them what the card does so there isn't any real issue. I can see this becoming an issue in a competetive environment but we're a very nice small community so it's fine.
>>
>>46610046

Its fine, you can reanimate on turn 1 or 2 and unless your opponent has a swords to plowshare you basically win on the spot.
>>
>>46618764
Or a force of will, karakas, wipe away, vapor snag or any of the other million answers to reanimator strategies present in Legacy.
>>
>>46618821
yeah i didn't mention Force because that stops any turn 1 combo, forgot to add it and Karakas too.

Basically its fragile af but you can combo off turn early and you do have your own force of wills so you have some amount of play.

I really dont mind about winning on the spot though, I like a little interaction. this deck looks like a lot of fun to play because it has brainstorm and fow and a bunch of fatties. The only restrictions of summoning sickness are that the creature can't attack during combat and can't activate tap abilities, correct?
>>
>>46620911
Here is the official rule:

302.6. A creature’s activated ability with the tap symbol or the untap symbol in its activation cost can’t be activated unless the creature has been under its controller’s control continuously since his or her most recent turn began. A creature can’t attack unless it has been under its controller’s control continuously since his or her most recent turn began. This rule is informally called the “summoning sickness” rule.

3 Spellskite is too many.
1GQ 1Ruins is definitely good, you want to hit your opponents manlands and academy ruins
>>
>>46622805
I don't think 3 spells kites is too many, the great thing about the deck is that I have utility besides him just eating bolts, we can make him a 5/5 and discard him to thirst. Also it makes so many matchups just fantastic, I've never been all that sad to see 2 drawn. Now you say too many, but why is that?
>>
>>46622879
If you're tutoring for skites why have so many? You say you can discard it but I'd rather have a unique card in my deck for a certain situation. Why no MD ee or pithing needle? With tezz you want a sort of toolbox list.
>>
>>46622797
I think drown in sorrow is good enough, and keratosis is not worth diluting your mana base for. I don't know, I don't think red is worth itm
>>
>>46622969
I don't tutor for sites though, not sure what you mean.
>>
>>46622994
I mean you would tutor for skite against bogles or infect or burn right?
>>
>>46622969
There's reasons I don't play needle or ee. For 1, ee on 1 gets countered by chalice on 1, and ee on 2 is just no good cause it kills all my stuff, and I don't want that. Pithing needle is also a 1 drop which I don't want to have in my deck as chalice for 1 is how I just lock out a bunch of games. The deck trades silver bullets for more generic answers and redundancy.

>>
>>46623397
It still is. In Legacy.
>>
>>46623428
I'm not finding Eldrazi Aggro to be that good in legacy. If you don't get a CotV working, it gets stomped on by combo and control badly. It has virtually nothing to stop Reanimator.

And there's a Bant deck preying on Eldrazi right now with huge KotR, Oozes, and Goyfs.
>>
>>46623515
>aggro loses to combo
Color me surprised. Also it actually has a bit of a leg up on other aggro decks with chalice and thought knot. It's a good aggro deck, don't even deny it senpai.
>>
>>46618580
I like them in commander but I'm cautious about using them in modern tournaments. Just because of any potential weight or bulging/ripples or really anything.
>>
>>46623623
I actually think it's the best aggro deck right now in Legacy. But since Legacy is so blue centered, it desperately needs something to help it out.

I feel the deck would benefit tons if it splashed in White and go a slower route instead of trying to explode all over the place with it's 8 sol lands. With 4 dismembers, ancient tomb, and city of traitors, it just kills itself to like 8 life.
>>
>>46623515
As a storm player, i find Eldrazi aggro to be a very difficult matchup, probably my hardest. COTV or ToA coupled with a fast clock is tough to deal with. If they have a TKS as well, there's no coming back.

If the problem is it losing to combo your life total doesn't matter anyway. It's better to consistently have chalice t1 or t2 than to splash white for what? Swords? Ethersworn canonist and containment priest? The deck doesn't really need any of those to function, chalice and thorn do the same job without a costly splash.

Heard UWr Control was good. I know that delver is good in legacy but it doesn't feel fast enough to win in modern. What do I add to cut delver? Would I just add 4 AV or something along the lines of 2 Vendillion Clique and 2 other cards?
1 Arid Mesa
2 Celestial Colonnade
4 Flooded Strand
1 Hallowed Fountain
2 Island
1 Mountain
1 Plains
1 Sacred Foundry
4 Scalding Tarn
2 Steam Vents
1 Sulfur Falls
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Snapcaster Mage
4 Young Pyromancer
3 Electrolyze
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Lightning Helix
4 Path to Exile
3 Remand
2 Spell Snare
4 Gitaxian Probe
4 Serum Visions
>>
>>46624175
If you cut Delver from that deck and added Geist of Saint Traft instead you would basically be playing UWR Midrange, which is better than Delver in Modern.

An optimal Midrange list would look a lot different though. More lands, no Probes, no YP, bigger creatures like Resto Angel and Pia and Kiran or Stormbreath Dragon. Maybe a Cryptic or two.
>>
>>46624175
What this anon said

I think UWR Control (which is even more different than the list you posted than UWR Midrange) is a bit better, but they're very similar, and you can't go wrong with either.

Control benefits more from AV, so that might be the way to go now though.

Been building this deck for a while, but been playing around with it since SOI release.
Old build used to be:
+ Eternal Witness x 1
+ Young Pyromancer x 2
+ Raven's Crime x 1
+ Terminate x 1
+ Liliana of the Veil x 1

- Relentless Dead x 2
- Gravecrawlers x 4

Also thinking about Gitrog Monster, Mindwrack Demon and Pack Guardian. I really like the idea of Pack Guardian.
I do not have Tarmogoyf.

25 Lands total, the lands not shown are Shocks, Fetches and Fast Lands.

Obviously burn puts up good results at tournaments and it is pretty easy to pilot, so I don't understand what i'm doing wrong?

Recently I've been playing the nacatl version but i've opted to take it out in favor of more spells considering I haven't been doing well lately.

Can you guys post your lists and give some general advice? I would really like to stick to my burn deck because i love the deck, but I want to actually win consistently as well...

I don't think Modern is known for blue instants.

I used to play burn, but have since switched to affinity.

You have yet to tell us anything we can correct outside of the fact that you haven't been doing well in modern events. You need to elaborate more on your situation.

This. I don't get why everyone started crying I never had a problem with Eldrazi. If anything I liked seeing tron get hit mostly because it's so fucking boring to play against.
