What's your favorite piece of Equipment? The one you usually try to find a slot for?
>>

Love me some Sunforger

The best piece I usually slot for is Skullclamp or one of the Swords, but my favorite piece has to be Nim Deathmantle or Tenza

Infiltration Lens, I don't always put it in, but it works a treat in my Iroas deck. Either they let him get through, in which case they're well on their way to losing via Commander Damage, or they block him with 2 creatures, netting me 4 cards.

Childish. But yes, simply replacing Ob Nixilis with Sheoldred in the retail Black EDH deck will make that deck pretty brutal near the endgame.

You end up ramping black mana fast enough to get her out nearly turn 4. With tweaks to it you could probably go faster of course.

This guy has it right.

Who's the most "DO OR DIE" commander in each color?

My nomination for Red. There hasn't been a game yet where I don't win or die taking everyone else with me.
If you can't judge when to go in, you lose.
If you can't judge when NOT to go in, you can't win.

Two days ago I took a 35 minute turn that involved Probability Storming into Mana Geyser, Insurrectioning everyone's stuff, casting most of my entire deck (through the Probability Storm), and trying not to die to the Final Fortune trigger that was waiting at the end of the turn.
Can't win through combat damage: someone flipped a counterspell into a fog two spells into the turn. Managed to get there with Chandra's Ignition and a deck full of pump spells.
>>
>>46449298
got a deck list for zada? I love his ability but i feel he is a mere shadow in comparison to krenko
>>
>>46449427
That's not really a fair comparison since they're totally different decks, with the only similarity is that they want to culminate in a combo. She is much worse than Krenko or Purphoros or even Daretti as far as mono-red commanders go, though.
>>
>>46449427
>he

Yeah, sure.
You're not wrong, Krenko is WAY better at winning games. The number of times I've landed Krenko and thought to myself "Holy shit, why am I not using him instead" is...too often.
That said, Zada has access to a toolkit that Krenko doesn't. She doesn't depend on combat quite as hard as he does, and she makes shitty cards playable (which is fun).

Here's a mostly up to date list. I've got a few changes I've already made (Dropped Eldrazi Monument and Unstable Obelisk, added Expedite and Goblin Piledriver amongst other things).
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/zada-ink-treader/

There's another anon here who runs a list that's a bit more storm-y, with rituals and such. I'll probably pick up some of the cards for that list and test them out. I've heard Battle Hymn is great.
It's a fun deck, but don't expect to pick up free wins after the first time. My playgroup has started killing Zada as soon as she drops, since I tend to win if she stays on the field longer than a single turn.
>>46449554
Eh, there's a good bit of overlap. They're heavy on tokens, they wanna go wide, and depend pretty heavily on their commander to really shine.
>>
>>46449554
only reason why i compare them is because they have sorta the same strategy
>token generation
and thats really it
krenko is just meant to multiply more
Zada is for more instant and sorcery

but none the less they are both pretty suicide red.

Elesh Norn will mess a bitch up pretty good, potentially. It has a way of decimating opponents while simultaneously putting you in the position to alpha strike. I'm assuming you have a decent number of rebels running around on board.

Friend, you cannot win a Noyan Dar game without a big ol' land swinging around. The card is a free way to dodge removal of your win-con. I do not understand how you think this is not worth it.

Your voltroned up land is obvious removal bait, having a counterspell to protect is just good sense and will come up pretty much every game. And this counterspell is free.

Kuro, Pitlord was what I used in my Through the Breach/Goryo's Vengeance deck back when Kamigawa was the most recent block. Getting to clear out the board before swinging always felt really good.

Mortal Combat for the gimmick win. Living Death effects are amazing. You need an Elixir of Immortality or Eldrazi in there because if your graveyard gets exiled after using his ability you lose.

>>46453931
There's nothing stopping you other than your deck size. Run something to shuffle your graveyard back in. Gitrog Monster just has insane synergy with so many cards. Life From the Loam and any discard outlet is insane. I have Cadaverous Bloom in my list. Obviously the exiling doesn't interact with Gitrog directly but you can use it generate a shitload of mana if you can't manage to go fully infinite and just burn out the table with Insanguinate anyways. My favorite wincon is Lich's Mirror + Pestilence, though.

I did go for a mix of power levels, it's nice to be able to play with different groups sometimes. I had about 15 decks at one point, these were the ones I enjoyed the most. >>
>>46455225
>Can anyone explain me why Jenara is on the watchlist?
french is full of complainers, she was a very common deck that plays goodstuff well and is a constant mana sink, which helps with efficiency.

So A). people are sick of seeing it B). flexibility.
>>
>>46455279
arent a lot of commanders exactly that? I know several people who only play their commander for the colors and so they have something to cast if they dont have the right cards
>>
Who's better, Vryn's Prodigy or Teferi? Jace seems kind of unimpactful for Commander, I know he's a cross-format all-star but he seems better in faster, 60 card formats. Teferi does build into a slightly different deck but the idea is still mostly mono-blue control, Teferi just plays with a heavier mana rock commitment I think. Teferi feels stronger to me, and he has slightly more tops on mtgtop8. But I've been seeing people talk about Jace as the mono-blue commander of choice rather than Teferi, and Jace is gaining on him. It's been a while since I've seen a new Teferi top. Is Jace better in duel since it's a faster format than regular commander, and maybe Teferi is better in multiplayer? Teferi feels really strong to me when I play him, and I just can't imagine Jace having nearly as much impact. Jace feels like a great value card but not an especially insanely strong commander.
>>
>>46455410

Teferi by a mile.
>>
>>46455410
Just realized it might be unclear but probably not to those who keep up with duel commander, I meant Teferi, Temporal Archmage and not Mage of Zhalfir
>>
>>46455290
Yep, a lot of commanders are like that. Jenara is just the most common in Bant colors and they're watching out for UG commanders especially. Jenara is the one least deserving to be on the watchlist I think for most people.
>>
>>46455410
Depends on how competitive you want to be.
the JVP hightide storm deck is usually faster but teferi walker does lockout better. If you arent playing that kind of competitive edh its all about your preference, this is a casual format after all and both options are actually quite good and you would likely be playing both regardless of who is the commander.

Alyi, Tesa orzhav scion or Atheros, I cant decide. Why would I run instead of the other?
>>
>>46455496
Well, I was asking because I do care about competitive and I like both cards and both are mono-blue control decks culminating in some sort of combo to win. My only problem is Jace is a million billion trillion dollars and I already have Teferi. But it wasn't a question about money since Teferi is still good and will b perfectly serviceable until I can get a Jace, if Jace is actually better. But I was interested in seeing a comparison between the two as I am a competitively-minded player and I have no especial preference towards one or the other. I happen to like Jace, so.
>>
>>46455551
Ayli and Athreos are totally different decks unless we were trying to build that relentless rats cleric deck or something. If you were I think Athreos is better for that. Ayli can be cleric tribal-y but I think her best use of cleric stuff is the infinite life combo and not really dedicated stuff like that guy that pays for WB mana.

>>46455551
I run an Orzhav worship deck that's based on lifegain/lifedrain. Athreos is my commander and the enchantments and creatures all force my opponent to lose life in one way or another. Sorceries and instances are typically damage negation or removal.

With Athreos as my commander I can keep casting creatures or force my opponents to lose health. I have plenty of sorceries in the deck that return creatures in my graveyard to my hand anyway so it works out.

It's a bit slow to start sometimes but it's really devastating typically, especially in multiplayer matches of 3-4 people.
>>
>>46455546

I've got decklists from mtgtop8. That was how I could tell how close Teferi and Jace were in tops-- Teferi has more, but only slightly, and hasn't topped in a while. Most mono-blue decks have been Jace for a while. Teferi has more lifetime but that's because he's been around longer so I'm only looking at tops since Vryn's Prodigy's been out.

Daretti can be perfectly fun to pilot. He doesn't have to artifact ramp into devestatian into reanimate wurmcoil engine. Reanimation can be a pretty fun mechanic. It's an issue of how you use it.
>Way less linear, just throw rocks at people
This is a contradictory statement. You can't say something is less linear than say that you "just" do something. That's how people describe linear decks, it "just" does something. I'm pretty sure Daretti's toolset is significantly less linear than that.

If you want a super janky and awful idea, I considered making a Radha Heroic/Prowess deck once. Lots of little pump spells that she could pay for, between her two modes you'll basically always have a free pumping cantrip for combat. Never got working it 100% because it's awful.

Spider Spawning, Fact or Fiction, Mulch, Forbidden Alchemy, etc. The usual suspects in a self milling deck. It won't be an explosive amount of Zombies, but I'm sure you'll get like 3-5 out of it on average which is pretty good for 6 mana.

Ixidor is a big ol' non-bo with Ezuri. Too afraid of drawing hate to put the ol' Brine Elemental + Vesuvan Shapeshifter combo in? Bounding Krasis seems incredibly low impact. Not exactly the kind of card you're looking for in EDH. Tide Drifter might be nice to make your morphs more resilient.

Is there any reason to be playing Ezuri as your Morph commander instead of Kruphix or something? The extent to which Ezuri works with morphs is that you can make creatures that might not trigger him get you an experience counter. I think you'd be better off just not playing more morphs than you have to and filling that out with utility creatures or something, then use Kruphix to float excess mana to cast morphs cheaper, if you have to stick to just UG.
>>
>>46461395
>playing a morph deck
>trying to be competitive

I might actually try kruphix though, but a shitton of mana verses big morphs is hard choice. Giving your 2/2s more suvivability is nice, but being able to flip more cards could be nice
>>
>>46461453
Ezuri makes everything big, it doesn't have to be morphs. And you should probably be winning via some infinite combo or something anyway rather than trying to get through a big duder and kill people one by one. And you can still play Ezuri in that deck anyway. Kruphix in my opinion feels more like a mana-generating engine for morphs that they should probably have as often as possible to fuel their extreme mana inefficiency. Ezuri would be just one of many options for win conditions.

>>
>>46461581
You'll still be using Morphs. Morphs may even contribute to whatever combo you use to win, like the guy talking about Unblinking Bleb or Trail of Mystery. But the biggest problem with morphs is that they're terribly inefficient, and Kruphix eases that. Ezuri doesn't really fix any problems morphs have, and has the barest of synergy with them really that doesn't equate to much more than "morphs are grey ogres and Ezuri wants you to play with small creatures". You may as well play Edric or something. I just think Kruphix has more synergy with what morphs want to be doing. That's just my opinion, though.
>>
>>46461675
>like the guy talking about Unblinking Bleb or Trail of Mystery
was me also.

I still might try Kruphix but not add any degenerate mana production, but a LOT of the flip abilities cost mostly colored mana which could weaken it, especially a lot of the more combo-oriented ones
>>
>>46461797
It's more just to help cast them face down in the first place. You can flip them normally, whatever. It's the additional 3 to cast them face down as well as the morph cost starting aroumd maybe tu I thinkm aybe Kruphix's biggest problem is that he may be just be too expensive. Ezuri is relatively cheap. He might not have much synergy but he's efficient and compact enough to become a threat in and of himself if he comes down on-time. Kruphix you need to build up to and then also spend a turn or two charging up mana.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense he can put bribery counters on the same creatue multiple times anyway. And if they wanted the repeatability than there should be no problem with that or just having him unable to target himself.

Its not "linear combo optimization", you just throw 2 cards that are pretty good already into a deck and every once in a while they'll show up, possibly together, and that changes up the game plan from one game to the next , its just variety to keep you interested in a deck.

Although I'm sure there is many ways to optimize the combo so that it goes off every game but that's hardly gonna make you want to play the deck alot if every game turns out the same and then after a month or two you'll drop it

ask to borrow a deck for a game, they'll be happy to see you pilot and have fun with it. try out a few decks, then itd be easiest to buy a precon. the 2013, 14 and 15 ones are all cheap and easy to find, and there's many different kinds and archetypes in there

as opposed to being blocked by a land?
>>
>>46465084
a precon is a good start or just pick your favorite deck theme (U/R Spellslinger, 5 Colour walkers or whatever) and then your deck will piece itself together naturally, try to make it so that the plan isn't the same every game though or you'll get bored

I've decided I want to start playing with Sidisi.
How terrible at deck making did I do?

Pick a commander. Add Sol Ring, 40 lands, and 59 other cards that seem to work well with the commander and each other. All the cards have to be colorless or only be colors or have mana symbols of colors that you commander is or has mana symbols of. Basically define "Color" as broadly as possible. So Bosh is red, Civilized Scholar//Homocidal Brute is blue-red, and so on.

Protip 1: Aggro is dead. Lightning bolt gets you nowhere. Tarmogoyf is merely OK. Midrange is still fine, though, and ramp is very solid.

Corrolary: Tempo is dead. Don't trade long term resources for short term gains. This goes triple in multiplayer (which is common for EDH). Dark Ritual sucks. Some argue Sol Ring is better than Lotus would be -- which is a very extreme opinion and probably incorrect but the fact that anyone in their right mind would even say that gives you an idea.

Protip 2: You need more mana rocks. Sol Ring is stronk, but filling out your deck with Mana Vault, Mana Crypt if you can get it, Worn Powerstone, sometimes Thran Dynamo, all relevant Signets, Coldsteel Heart, Commander's Sphere, Manalith, Relevant Obelisks, Relavent diamonds if you're merely one or two colors... you get the idea. You want mana rocks. It's possible to go overboard, but it's hard.

Protip 3: Be able to answer anything. Have at least one card somewhere in your deck you can draw towards to get rid of a permanent of any one type that's fucking you up. Only planeswalker can really be ignored and then only because swinging is a valid answer. Yes, even land. Have something that can take a Gaea's Cradle or Cabal Coffers off the field, even if you have to run Ark of Blight to do it (Protip within the protip: you don't). I also like to ask myself if my deck can handle a couple "Nightmare scenarios" like an indestructible Sigarda, and if it can't see if there's any way I can make it do so, if not in one step then in two.

I think "Lightning Bolt is bad in Commander" is a bit of a misconception. It's not even close to format defining like it is everywhere else it's playable but being able to ping off a utility creature or a weaker commander for 1 mana is not bad value.

I'm also not of the opinion that 3 drop rocks when a) your strategy doesn't revolve around mana rocks or b) doesn't especially suit your strategy in some other especial way are not worth playing, or C) you play 3+ colors and even then.

Protip 4: Mass answers are good in multiplayer. MP is the assumption for EDH, if you're playing 1v1 you can ignore this. But multiplayer means clogged boards and EDH means mana efficency is nothing next to card efficiency. Don't run Journey to Nowhere when you can run Wrath of God or Final Judgment. Combined with tip 3, cards like Oblivion Stone, Nevinyrral's Disk, All Is Dust, and Wave of Vitriol are your very good friends. I personally slot Disk into every EDH deck I build because it's the colorless budget option, but that's a matter of personal preference.

Protip 5: Things that are Stronk.

Tutoring Stronk. Another card I love inordinately much is Planar Portal. Yes, it's 12 mana to fire off your first Demonic Tutor. But it lets you Demonic Tutor an infinite number of times in literally any deck.

Combo Stronk. Combo-kills are how EDH games don't go about an hour per player. Of course, if you combo off turn 3 everyone will soon hate you, so approach with caution in an unknown playgroup.

Ramp Stronk. Barring combo you have a LOT of extra time compared to a normal game, getting something huge and stupid out isn't just viable, it's game winning

Mass Land Destruction Stronk. MLD counters Ramp strategies. If you're in white and/or red it is your right. Some people will still hate you just for running armageddon though, so as with combos be careful, though if you use it primarily defensively they can suck it up and git gud.

Card Advantage Stronker than Ever. The more you leverage off of each card, the better you are at winning the long game and crushing your foes. So draw more, get x-for-1, and grind your opponents out so they have nothing left when you still have something.

can anyone give me some ideas of cards to stop opponents casting more than two spells, that are R/G colours? I dont want my werewolves to transform >:(
>>
>>46465969
There's mostly only stuff that discourages the opponent from casting spells like Ruric Thar and stuff that prevents them from casting during your turn. Werewolves are kind of shit like that. Wait for Eldritch Moon to see if we get the Werewolf legend that prevents transforming.
