Isn't this a massive disadvantage over camo? Or are the conflict so huge that it doesn't matter?

Wew laddie

>Not considering that bright colors might be still be camo

Earth-like terrain is not the only terrain in the galaxy. But keep painting your green forest camos and tan desert camos.

It would be fucking bad on the terrain the mini has as a base, though.

Other planets very well may have extremely bright-colored flora. There's literally no reason this can't be camo on another planet.

>40k

since when has anyone cared about that?
it's all fucking we are the ultramarines, so we wear blue! we are the fire dragons, so we wear red! we are the yellow sunz, so we wear yellow! it's goddamn galactic pride parade
>>
>>46374529
They're designed to extract money from weaboos so they need to be bright and shiny
>>
>>46375118
Reasons for marines not having camo is in the lore though. Orks are 10 gazillion guys for each waagh so no point in having camo, and fire dragon do that for religious reasons...
>>
>>46375369
Tau are the only faction specifically created to market. Of the many reason to be embarrassed by, or hate Tau - this is perhaps the most offensive.
>>
Tau vehicle armor uses mildly adaptive camouflage, though it usually doesn't have true stealth field projectors like the stealth suits. It probably simply has several various camo presets for its theatre, very likely including a "parade dress" configuration based on the individual Sept.

I dunno about the infantry armors, though.
>>
>>46375369
CSM are for weebs tho. not Tau.
>>
>>46374529
It's 40k, are you going to complain about the horrific shape of their guns, the fact that heating up a tiny round until it ionises isn't going to increase its damage output that much over bullets in a realistic setting, or the fact that their combat network actively pings the location of literally every connected unit with radiowaves?

If Deriving inspiration from something now qualifies as trying to attract that particular market then I could say the Imperium meant to attract stormfags because commissars look a bit like the SS

But we both know that would be retarded, wouldn't it?
>>
>>46375718
No. CSM are for edgelords with a wicked sense of humor.

Source: CSM player.
>>
>>46374529
Well that depends on the planet. I know there is one sept that uses bright green colours on a rocky world due to the fact that the apex predetor cannot see the colour
>>
>>46374529

Not sure if that's the specific camo pattern, but a fluff bit in one of the new Tau lore books mentions that there was a specific alien species whom the Tau were fighting that couldn't see a specific, very bright color, so they used it for that particular conflict. It was probably Cyan, now that I think about it.

Their home world is probably ice/ocean world or has blue plants. That's why some Tau septs have weird ass colors.

Green isn't that far from blue, photosynthesis aside, and we have purple and red plants too, so blue alien plants isn't a stretch.
>>
>>46374529

Pretend the actual unit the mini represents has appropriate camouflage. Paint it high visibility colors so you can find your dudes on the board.
>>
>>46374529
Camo painted on minis ends up looking bad no matter how well its done.

I disagree. Most IG painters are just bad at painting camouflage or go for non-urban, extremely outdated junky WWII/70's camo.

Sculpts with too much gear on them are hard to do camo on as well since so little of the actual fabric is showing.
>>

Yeah isn't modern infantry basically olive drab or coyote brown everywhere and camo only on the arms and legs?

>>
>>46384339
Apparently there was research saying pixel camo works better (and works at both close and long range), but the US never did it because they had a knee-jerk reaction like you did. China apparently doesn't give a shit about whether something 'should' work, so they just went with the data said and did it.

Google Dazzle Camouflage if you want something that makes even less sense but works

Dazzle camo isn't to hide, it's to make it hard to tell what distance you're at and what your proportions are, and it's mainly used on large ships. So it's not really comparable here.

I dunno. The blue is just about their hometown and division or some shit.

I find it less displeasing than the vomit green.

Also, fuck you 4chan, those are commercial trucks not RVs.

40Kids get sadder and sadder every year. Do you not realize the Imperium IS supposed to resemble the SS? 40k began as satire.
>>
>>46384339

The colour scheme is Urban camo(usually). Also similar colours(and patterns) are used as camo by a few Naval personnel on vessels.

As for the digital camo pattern it's a camo pattern that's good all around at different ranges rather than the traditional blotch camo being good at specific particular range. The earliest testing of digital or pixel camo was like from the 30's or 40's.
