Threadly reminder that you can (and should) contribute.

And yes, we'll be called Red Giant.

I still feel like you can do better than taking the name of another magazine created by employees who left GW. If nothing else, when you google 'Red Giant Magazine' they dominate the results, which is terrible for you from a branding perspective.
>>
>>46370445
they exist? then why the hell are anons constantly proposing it?

yes, I admit I did no research on what exists and what doesn't, I was content with "/tg/ White Dwarf", but still.

... Why not "The Greasy Goblin"...?

No...? Alright...
>>
>>46370477
Because it's really fucking old and the people proposing that name either weren't born or were very young when it existed.

I only had a few issues if I remember correctly, it didn't do terribly well.

That's not bad.

>>46370477
People wanted a name separate from White Dwarf to make it clear that we're not in any way beholden or tied to GW in any way. You just need to be careful that in stepping away from them you don't tread on anyone else. Anons are retarded, wanted a name with both Sci Fi and Fantasy to invoke old White Dwarf (though as this magazine is going to be focused on Warhammer Fantasy I don't see why) and they can't be bothered to do research.

Personally I liked 'Fa/tg/ut'.

>>46370563
It is old, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. If it still dominates the Search results, it's not irrelevant.
>>
>>46370563
ah, okay.
still, need a different new name now
>>
>>46370583
I meant more in regards to people proposing the name and not knowing the magazine ever existed rather than because it is no longer published it doesn't exist. I'm just bad at words.
>>
>>46370583
>Personally I liked 'Fa/tg/ut'.
I'm not even sure it's good taste to post 4chan screencaps, and you're proposing full-on meme name. It's supposed to be MADE by /tg/ not BE /tg/. it's supposed to capture the quality of White Dwarf (or, at least, mythical quality, since I've heard anon say it was never actually good)
>>
>>46370445
>>46370477
We propose it because it keeps the spirit of being a fictional being while at the same time being an astronomical term.

Also, if nobody remembers a short lived and obscure magazine, why would we care about it.

The other option is Blue Giant, which still works.
>>
>>46370723
Blue Giant sounds like a name of a gay club
>>
>>46370758
Eye of the beholder and all that. Hadn't crossed my mind, so perhaps the problem is yours.

Not to mention that the difference between the words red and blue is non existant, in how quick they roll out of your tongue if anything.

How the fuck do the VC ally with anyone though?
Someone post that youtube comment screen shot of the butt mangled total war fan.
>>
>>46371543
DO you mean how do they ally lorewise, or how do they ally within the rules of the game?

I can't answer the latter, but for the former, Vampire Counts probably seem more palpable than Chaos. Some of them treat their subjects with respect and don't just use them as bloodbags.
>>
>>46371543
>How the fuck do the VC ally with anyone though?

In the video about corruption, they mention agents going undercover to spread it and undermine people. I assume that (at least in my head) most of the VC territory is going to be rule by puppets, we're totally just regular Imperial nobles you guys, no need for garlic.

I just find it interesting how WFB has a third faction - I guess you could lump them together as the Dead - outside of the Chaos and Order that got carried over to 40k.
>>
>>46375219
Death was a villain in Warhammer before Chaos was. The first scenario was against Goblins, the first campaign was Undead.

Chaos was mentioned in 2e, and only at the end of 3e right before 4e did it become a legitimate faction rather than an alternative word to saying evil over and over. Which was the same time 40k came out.

It is one of the best kits, but not everybody plays mordheim/regiments of renown, and the Empire players don't have a huge need of the militia unit.

Just like some of the hero sculpts they killed are some of the best ones, not everybody needs 10 heroes, 1 or 2 per type and army is usually enough.

It is a lot of money now. But mmthink in terms of food, or the cinema, or a shitty weekend trip. Yes,they can be awesome experiences, but once had, all that is left is their memory.
Your warhams will stay with you forever, or until you decide to burn them and upload a video of the feat to youtube. The money per hour of entertainment ratio is very good when it comes to miniatures, there are far more expensive hobbies. Fuck, an entry level reflex camera is easily 400£, add two decent lenses and a few filters and you are sitting of 1000£.

Also, if you have a lot of minis, you will be able to force your children and partner to play with you.

These days? Some of the official minis are great, though the number is going down all the time due to squattings. I'd be tempted to pick up some Sisters of the Thorn before they vanish (because deer-riding elf mage chicks), especially seeing as there are no good alternates, but I'd rather do it from a non-GW FLGS or Ebayer since GW will have already been paid in those cases.

They don't support the game I want to play, I don't support them in their round-based endeavors. It's lose-lose but I consider that a better outcome than lose for me - win for them.

We already have a rough plan for the first issue, and a few articles are in progress, so it has actually began.
BUT without your help we won't be able to complete it. Feel free to pick a topic and write something or post some pictures. We need more pictures, and not those from google - original pictures. Model photos, artworks, anything.

Don't be scared if what you want to propose doesn't fit the plan, we're flexible and nothing is set in stone.

Headed out west across the mighty sea

I'm shipped UPS from the land of the Queen

Starin' at bubbles

And hope to Breton

The address is written down right

I made it to New York in seventeen days

But ahead of me I still got a ways

And I'm hopin' the Lady

Will see me to Cali tonight

So paint me silver like a cared-for blade

Paint me with varnish so I don't fade

Hail my liege, paint me

Paint my standard, paint my heraldry

So our foe across the table can see

Hail my liege, paint me

My first Lord was angered by the new Age

The fate of my kin was to be put on eBay in rage

The Green Knight went to Glasgow

I shipped to 'murrica

We were stripped of our paint to sell for slightly more

Lost my shield, and my unit was sent to Australia

But I won't lose this lead test

I will wave your colors with pride

So paint me silver like a cared-for blade

Paint me with varnish so I don't fade

Hail my liege, paint me

Paint my standard, paint my heraldry

So our foe across the table can see

Hail my liege, paint me

He tried the four pages of Age rules

But without points it was just a joke

The game is for fools

So like the other old school fans he jumped ship

To that Malifaux, and X-Wing

And sold us all with no small amount of salt

So to you my liege I come first class

With a silent cry of Deus Vult

In a padded envelope

And in my heart I sing

So paint me silver like a cared-for blade

Paint me with varnish so I don't fade

Hail my liege, paint me

Paint my standard, paint my heraldry

So our foe across the table can see

Hail my liege, paint me

It astounds me that people actually say shit like this when the models in question have received new rules. They're a relatively new kit too so they aren't going to get replaced anytime soon.

On the other hand though I probably really shouldn't be surprised since the GW fanbase has always been filled with people who panic unnecessarily and don't look at the facts in from of them.

Of course I expect someone to bring up the Necrosphinx/Warsphinx in response to my last point, conveniently forgetting how it doesn't fit in with the VC range at all.

No, I'd bring up the entire Bretonnian range being sold out forever within an hour and the new models like the Lothern Sea Guard which had no reason to be squatted at all and came completely out of the blue.

GW can't be trusted anymore. Buying the models you like now is like ripping off a band-aid. Painful and a little sickening, but once done you'll never think of it again and will toss that shit in the bin where it belongs.

Always check the secondary market before buying GW though. Bartertown, eBay, Amazon.
>>
>>46382521

>No, I'd bring up the entire Bretonnian range being sold out forever within an hour

Mostly old range and no real reason to keep them in stock when the Empire exists.

The Lothern Sea Guard likely got squatted because GW couldn't really find a use for them since HE have been broken up into mini factions in AoS. Basically Caledor, Saphery, Chrace, and Phoenix Guard with the Skycutter models and Shadow Warriors being lumped into a scout faction and the Sisters of Avelorn being transferred over to Wood Elves.

If something is currently available for sale on GW's website and isn't Finecast or old as fuck plastic there is a pretty damn good chance it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

AoS has it's own general.

If you want to be new to WHFB, I doubt anybody's got anything against new blood, but if you're looking to play AoS this is not your home.

We might talk your ear off with how and why AoS is so bad though.

Peasants have to wear the lords colours and bear his heraldry

have fun and be inspired, your army should look like a rainbow mounted
>>
>>46386976
Also you may want to look up basic heraldry rules.

The only real one you need to know is that a metal (Or and Argent aka white and yellow) only go on colors (everything else) and vice versa. Basically that means for every heraldic design it must incorporate white or yellow as either the field or charge, but not both.

The only thing you'll get here is shit talking it.

Let me do that right now.

Age of sigmar is EXCLUSIVELY a collectors game. If you have any interest in a game beyond buying and painting the models and pushing them around pointlessly while chatting with your mates, then it's not what you want to get into. It has no lore worth a damn, no rules worth a damn, and I'd argue the models are pretty overpriced and ugly too. 30 dollars for one humanoid on foot model is absolutely unacceptable

I'd bid you to consider actual fantasy or it's torch bearers, infinity, malifaux, warmahordes, 40k, and X-wing first as all can do whatever it is you want out of age and probably with less limitations at a lower price tag.

Why isn't the feud between the chaos dwarfs and the dwarfs as intense as the one between the high and dark elves? In fact, you almost never hear about the 2 races fighting each other in the fluff
>>
>>46389966
Cause chaos dwarves never really were popular. They went for a good 20 years completely unsupported before FW revived them.

Would make sense in-universe to write about them, but not for the company when the product line is not supported any longer.
>>
>>46389966
different motivations. Chaos Dwarfs dislike Order Dwarfs, but not to the point of overwhelming hatred, nor do High Chaos Dwarf has claims for the crown of High King of Dwarfs. also Chaos Dwarfs are sorta more successful than Order Dwarfs - latter live in ancient holds they lose one by one, former have built powerful kingdom and advanced technology. Order Dwarfs don't even make good slaves and the races don't border. There's little reason for them to fight, unless they meet.
>>
>>46389966
They live very far away from each other and dorfs view chaos dorfs as a kind of racial shame.

>>
>>46390035
I love chaos dwarfs, but having them be a successful, almost self-sufficient civilisation in the middle of nowhere with no border threats beyond roving orcs or skaven means that Chaos Dwarfs don't really have a reason to fight anybody.

At most they would want a slave expedition, notwithstanding events like throne of Tamurkhan.

Chaos Dwarfs really don't have any major conflicts, the current situation seems to be ideal for them.
>>
>>46389966
Dark Elves are ruled by a claimant to the throne of the High Elves. Chaos Dwarfs are a far away civilization of Dwarfs that got corrupted. There's much more reason for conflict from the former.

How are they self-sufficient, anyways? They live in a barren ashen wasteland that couldn't possibly support intensive farming (and I doubt that farms staffed by greenskin slaves are that productive to begin with), and kickass hats aren't mined from the earth.

How can they sustain any kind of population center, let alone the heavily industrialized fortress-cities which are undoubtably poisoning the land around them with Chaos taint.
>>
>>46391465
Normal dwarfs don't have any farms to speak of in the fluff either. They're almost entirely underground, except in a couple of instances (like Bugmans Brewery).

The regular Dwarves have underground farms and a few dying clans of aboveground herders and farmers, but Stone and Steel goes into how they are not very good at producing anything but the grains they use for brewing. The rest of their food needs are handled by human settlements, because that's a far more efficient way to use their limited Dwarf manpower (Dwarfpower?). And that's with the very abundant farms of the Empire, and the longstanding human-Dwarf alliance keeping them going. Chaos Dwarves are in a worse position, with no friends.

>>46391540
Gross. But farming humans is really inefficient; you couldn't keep a pig population going by feeding them their own, let alone people who are notoriously stringy, take a long time to mature, and are likely to actively try to revolt.

Chaos Dwarves are from the height of actually good Warhammer fluff, someone must have written something about how their society functions or what they eat, even just a blurb in WD, right?
>>
>>46391608
>The rest of their food needs are handled by human settlements
I doubt this. Not only would humans need to be producing nearly twice as much food to supply dwarfs, but then they'd also have to ship it to the dwarf holds. Ain't nobody shipping any sort of food to Karak Eight Peaks, and a number of holds are a very long distance from any major human areas that could possibly supply them.

The only dwarf hold that could logically feed itself when you think about it, is Barak Varr (the dwarf port).

>>46391697
>I doubt this

OK? I gave you a source, Merle, but if you're too busy shooting zombies here it is, pg 16 of Stone and Steel. The vast majority of what food the Dwarves produce is grains that are immediately turned into ale. There are some hunters and trappers who get fresh game, and undoubtably some hold still maintain the ancient breeds of underground plants, but even in the past those were supplementary to food grown on the surface. Now there are humans who can grow the food far better than the Dwarves ever could.

Also, they wouldn't need to produce twice as much food, because the Dwarf population is nowhere near twice the population of the Empire. A Dwarf Hold has the same impact as any other city; the surrounding rural communities are built around producing an abundance of food and shipping it there, receiving finished goods in return. Getting food to some of the more distant holds may be difficult, but it can be done with armed escorts from both Men and Dwarves, not to mention the underground highways of the Dwarves that were never fully destroyed or blocked off. There's more than one fluff story of a relief convoy breaking through the siege lines to get food to some hold.

>>
>>46391981
Dunno. I think a lot of that is questionable at best.
Everything about the ogres is flat out wrong for example now, because GW brought out the Ogre Kingdom books.
And the whole 3:1 male female thing would be a huge deal if actually true. So I'm gonna say that's also to be taken with a grain of salt.

The thing about the crops makes sense though.

It's as canon as anything. WFRP 1e was published directly by GW at first, then by their division-rechristened-as-company Flame Publications. Hogshead revived the WFRP 1e line in the 90's, but they were still overseen very closely by GW editors.

Generally speaking, Nagash has his own army.

The original undead he commanded were Nehekharans loyal to him, and his victims. They're probably entombed in his Black Pyramid.

The Vampires all initially were loyal excluding Neferata, but after Nagash lost they all ran off. The Necrarchs would be the most likely to return first, then Vlad and/or Isabella if Nagash resurrected them and promised them absolute dominion of Sylvania.

Or go with End Times lore, where he became Death magic itself and automatically ruled all Death mages, Necromancers, and undead who didn't side with Chaos over him.

Americans traditionally favored labor or foreign things that are interesting in culture.

So they took the hat of the British navy and made it flatter to keep rain and sun off the face better then took the Canadian fur hats popular in France for 1700's fashion for example.

Even the cowboy hat and the fedora (real fedoras, not trilbies) were hats designed for the working man that only became fashionable later.

Halflings and Kislev only really consisted of a few types of models.

Halflings were pretty OP on the tabletop. If they were around today, every competitive Empire list would have them. In battle reports involving Empire the Halflings were always the last mpdels standing or the ones that won the battle. When GW transitioned to modern Warhammer with the release of Vampire Counts the Halflings were quietly dropped.

Kislev was strange. They sort of wanted to treat it like its own army, but it was just Empire without much difference in tabletop performance. They went out as quick as they went in and vanished with Specialist Games.

I think Kislev would be a really hard army to accurately do, because there's no real response to missile cavalry. Welfs are tricky enough, imagine them with hueg movement. It'd be interesting to see a bunch of Hussars and Horse Archers running around, with a relatively small number of foot troops, but it'd be very difficult to pull off and not be totally broken (especially when you bring in Ice Magic, if you write up any spell that might slow down an enemy unit or deny them movement in a certain area). Oblast riders one day.

Well, yeah.

Tolkien's Halflings are based on the Irish after centuries of British rule living off the land, the Warhammer Halflings are just Irish as they naturally occur without civilizing by a benevolent master.
>>
>>46399665
Kislev saw some real development during the specialist period as part of Warmaster. Go look that up to get the last version of the studio flavour for it.

The faction functioned alright at the warmaster scale. Also, they imported some vintage Russian/Kossack stuff, like portable fortress wagons that they'd circle. I could almost see them being a special choice.

So...basically High Elves with an Ellyrion Reaver core and mounted Archmage.

Elf, I noticed you're in the middle of a 10000 year old civil war over who gets to wear the crown we own.

Elf I noticed you can barely take care of yourselves and need humans to protect your trees for you

Elf I noticed your alcohol is thin as goblin piss and smells like it too

Get bent twiggy

What kind of alcohol is common in the Warhammer World? I'm sure there's ale and beer and suchlike, but anything that specific factions or races enjoy more than others? Anything exotic?

Yeah, but there's approximately 6 Elves in that army. Kislev would need to have large numbers to really fit with their theme and general human nature.

1) We made a new crown.
2) Those are some retards that ran into the woods rather than fight for the motherland. We kind of forgot they existed.
3) That's why we're importing yours. Must be nice for you to have a growing economy again.

ok guys just impulse bought an army of globlins, ive never played warhammer fantasy though only 40k.

120 nightgoblins with spears and three shamans/banners/musicians and stuff 6 fanatics
10 goblin warriors (what do I do with these??? will I need more to have any use?)
20 goblin spider riders
a troll
27 arrow boys
one lobba, one doom diver, one spear chucka
20 orc "warriors" and a musician, im not sure what these guys actually are, the models look old and are all exactly the same, an orc in chainmail with heavy armor

>>
>>46400369
So drop the points from 17 to 15 and drop their Leadership, Initiative, and Weapon Skill to 5's.

Still just Reavers.

>>46400394
Trolls are technically Chaos-mutated something. Like the White Lions of Chrace, the literal white magical lions rather than the Elves calling themselves White Lions.
>>
>>46400407
But that's at least an honest alliance, based on mutual respect and for mutual benefit. Elves are snotty jerks who could be honest and benefit both parties, but they prefer lies and terror to the detriment of everyone involved.

He absolutly became a giant. Nagash grew after eating warpstone. He was a giant when Alcaddizar beat him and he was a giant when Sigmar destroyed him. Nagash has spent more time as a giant lich then as a regular sized person.

Standard Orcs are redshirts. Who cares about 'em.

Black Orcs are elite bastards, not very Orky though. Too straight-laced.

Savage Orcs are a genuine threat, almost no humor. Straight up carnage machines.

Forest Goblins are interesting, more for fluff players and conversion maniacs because they're just okay.

Night Goblins are as Orky as Fantasy gets. But with magic rather than trch. They're crazy, funny, and the biggest fun on the tabletop.
Night Gobbos themselves are not OP. Good, but not OP.
But Fanatics? OP as fuck if used right. Packing a list full of them is INSANE. We're talking "That escalated quickly" here.

You have to intentionally cheese though, and it backfires a lot. OnG are mid tier strength.

Body, hand, and probably feet are from current shadow warrior box
Head comes from Lothern Skycutter
The sword is the one from the loremaster

Teclis shagged human twins, and recalls them fondly. Morathi has fucked humans, or at least she did when she was still Slaanesh's high priestess.

High Elves will fuck humans gladly, Dark Elves may rape and murder them, Woodies are more likely to stick a flute up their ass and play a nature song to seduce a barn owl.

I'd play it. The southern old world dosen't really worry about the northern barbarians, so they ought to have some sort of chaos threat
>>
>>46402116
I like it without Chaos there, tbqh. It reminds you that Chaos is a threat spreading from the rifts at the poles, not the endemic problem of every being on the planet. The Tileans have their hands full with the ratmen, the Arabyans, and each other.

So what are their origins then?
I was thinking of them as mostly a beastmen offshoot. Maybe then they could be more of eastern faction then? Along with cathay and ind oceanborn could be a member of the factions added by some sort of !asia supplement
