Even moving beyond actual D&D stuff, Rich's own homebrew cosmology is pretty explicit about Evil characters getting sent to the Lower Planes to suffer for their crimes. Just as Good characters get to go the Heaven and bang supermodels for the rest of eternity.

There's a tiny subset of dudes in the lower planes who clawed their way high enough to have a life that doesn't suck because shit flows downhill. Main difference is the personality of the inhabitants and good outsiders giving a shit about their subordinates.

She also played a part in that arc where they land on some tropical island on the way to the Eastern continent. A bunch of island orcs start worshiping Elan's puppet and try to sacrifice her to it. She offhandedly comments they're barking up the wrong tree if they want a virgin sacrifice and should go back in time to her junior prom.
The orcs say it's okay because Banjo likes sacrifices with "more experience".
That one stuck with me for some reason. Something about it was really funny to me.

Joy to a fiend is to dine upon the soul flesh of those who give into the temptations they craft and the lies they promise. That said, the lower planes are basically the planes of assholes. More to the point, they are effectively all given shock collars and buttons that activate everyone's shock collar, then told the goal is to be the one whose collar doesn't get activated every time someone presses the button, and not nearly enough people consider that the winning move is for everyone to put their button down as everyone wants to be able to have power over their fellows.
