Ever ran/played in a campaign with a female BBEG? Tell us about her.
>>
>>46298962
Ran a game where the BBEG was a female Demon Lord trying to ascend to godhood. One of the players thought there was no way she was really a demon lord/ the final boss of the campaign so he challenged her to single combat.
She broke his neck in the second round.
>>
Does it count if she's a Shub-Niggurath type "beast of a thousand twisted young" monster?
>>
>>46298962
Sweet lady lich who basically acted like a doting grandmother to her undead army, and even to the party while they tried to foil her schemes. Never killed any of us when she easily could have because she saw potential in any/all of us to be turned into evil overlords just like her. Our GM played her with enough of a balance of being sympathetic, mad, and insidious, that we didn't regret eventually killing her to cap off the bulk of the adventure, but we started missing her. It was a good run.
>>
This BBEG thing has now become absolutely retarded, if it wasn't already.

No, I'm talking about still using "big bad evil guy."
Sorry you got triggered.
>>
>>46299567
haha, you're hilarious.
So what is the point of your game? Peace and love, finding a long lost armoire, looking for the farmers left sock which was devastatingly taken from him in the last tornado that happened by natural causes?
>>
>>46299638

How the fuck do you lose an armoire?
>>
>>46299638
I'm talking about the bit of jargon.
Ten different things you can call your boss or villain, and some people are still using the one that makes them sound like a four-year old just because they feel it makes them "part of the club."
>>
>>46299687
I don't know, it gets up and leaves?
Or elves, its usually elves. Returning wood to the forest or some shit.
>>
>>46299689
Oh, I thought you meant the idea of one, not the wording. I agree with you there BBEG sounds dumb as shit.
>>
>>46299774
>>46299567
I agree why can't we just say antagonist or villain?
>>
>>46299787
BBEG refers to arch-villains, overlords, and such.
>>
>>46299747

Fuckin' Elves.
>>
>>46299832
Except 9/10 people don't use it that way, and just use it interchangeably with "villain". Even just "the villain" is more specific than BBEG, and makes you sound ten times less dumb.
>>
>>46299787
antagonist is every single foe you face

BBEG is the ultimate threat

A vampire countess, who quite simply didn't want to deal with the PCs. she learnt about adventurers from her dead grandfather and more dead mother and decided fuck that. At the big showdown, she offered them just shit tons of gold and magic items to leave her alone. I figured that the players would reject it like always and try to kill her.

They didn't, they just asked for her to add a "I won't fuck with you if you don't fuck with me" clause. Then they made the deal, made off like bandits, and let her destroy vast swathes of the world.
>>
>>46299914
>9/10

It's one of the few pieces of web jargon I see used correctly more often tha not.
>>
>>46300120
Now in your next campaign you can have them hunt down their previous characters who are all poweful villains in their own rite to retrieve items she cleverly gave them that are secretly things she needed safeguarded that could lead to her destruction. Also they get to go through the wastes of their own making.
>>
>>46300234

> No sense of overkill
> Looks like a dark elf matriarch, talks like Lucille Bluth
> Instigates multiple wars over the period of a hundred years in order to gain access to a room for 20 minutes without being interrupted

> Only manage to get through to her because her husband had a death wish and got the party to kill him

Yeah, okay.
>>
She saved her nation from a hostile, warlike one. Took them over. Didn't stop there.

Her end goal was to unify the world, because she realized how terribly small and insignificant they were on the grand, cosmic scale. Essentially she was paranoid about mega space beasts accidentally wiping them out with a fart or something.
>>
>>46300173
Largely because you make the mistake of automatically assuming they're using your definition, and you don't even bother to look at the context and realize they're really just talking about any villain.

And, often, people who do use your definition have to backtrack a little and explain they just wanted to talk about any sort of boss, defeating the purpose of using it in the first place.

She was introduced as a hard-drinking Tiefling of some kind who handed out secret quests/jobs to members of the party, to do various odd jobs while we were out doing regular adventures. Turns out she was actually a Drow and that the tasks were fueling a power-up for her, and she kidnapped a bunch of townspeople (who had become our friends). Her powers were based on granting people wishes/giving them what they wanted. So the local cleric, who wanted to "better protect people" was turned into a golem. The lone survivor Kenku became a Revenant to avenge his murdered village (ironically they were killed by a Revenant). For reasons I can't recall the douchey dock master became a devil. We just sorta let him go. We stopped her from ruining more lives with her awful ways but she escaped. She reappeared from time to time to set up more deals with some of the newer party members (further empowering her) all leading up to trying to free her "mother," an imprisoned trickster deity who had been driven mad by a sort of Elder God thing, also imprisoned. So we fought our way through her miniature army of vampires in the control tower, where she offered to help us revive our dead friends in exchange for freeing her spider-god-mom. We beat her up and now she's in jail.

But she's got seven more "siblings" (eight eyes of the spider or whatever) and we've got a long road ahead of us.

No, the players didn’t go along the path where they would’ve directly conflicted with her.
She was kinda like the villain from Willow, if she reincarnated, awakened, and pretended to be the reincarnation of a spirit goddess.

Until there is a 4 letter term to convey the idea of the main antagonist villain, I will still use BBEG, in text.
(Although I noticed I used “villain” in responding to OP, which is curious)
Saying “Bee-Bee-Ee-Gee” or “Big Bad Evil Guy” out loud was always stupid.
Even Buffy just started calling them, “the Big Bad.”

Not that anon, but you assuming others always ignore context just to defend your autistic hatred of anonymous strangers using a term on the internet is laughably sad.

Those alleged people, who I have never seen do this on /tg/ despite it happening “often”, would be stupidly misusing the term.
Boss would be the superior 4 letter term in that instance.

Her name was Gwen or something. She was a snake magician or somesuch (this was Day after Ragnarok). We beat her the first time because she didn't understand naval architecture and trapped herself inside a compartment that we had set on fire by accident. Then my ex SS character drugged her with all the morphine we could find. The next time we saw her, we were in South Africa, for some reason, and we made a low pass over her family mansion with Sarin or VX or something. Naturally that didn't do much to her snake magician mother who had sealed the inside of the house. We ended up leaving the poor girl as a vegetable outside the mansion as it burned to the ground after killing the mother. The game died not long after, sadly, 'cause I kinda wanted to make her into my character's waifu.

Considering that apparently BBEGs are dumb (lol), any ideas for standard campaigns or endgames that usually have a BBEG but without one?

How about the huge invading army is commanded by a top council of relatively weak politicians, (Hitler/Goering/Goebbels etc.). Your final mission is to storm their headquarters and hunt them down one by one as their bodyguards try to lockdown the palace and extract them.

Any other ideas?
>>
>>46302796
Uh no? I wut?
>>
>>46302892
See, this is where people confuse me. BBEG refers to the person or persons responsible for the conflict, and as such are the final opponent the players must defeat in order to complete the campaign, right? Unless there is no way to complete the campaign head-on there should always be a BBEG. In your example, the council is the BBEG. you literally said the players have to storm the BBEG's fortress to find and kill him.

What you're asking for is a multiple facet campaign, where the players have to fix multiple parts of the world in order to win. Kind of a "find the pieces of the ritual to stop the world exploding" kind of thing.
>>
Not necessarily a BBEG but more so the villain for an arc, it's a young mage girl who was born into a royal family, but hated having to be "the perfect child" and learned magic in secret. And proceeded to murder her family and went on to do evil just for the entertainment etc. I know it's sorta cliche but I have not ran that part yet and my players are idiots.

That's a kind of wide reading of BBEG. BBEG means Big Bad Evil Guy, and tends to refer to a main, strong antagonist, who tends to be fought at the end. If the party was trying to prepare for a hurricane would that be a BBEG?

>>
>>46299547
It means most fiction these days tends to look at villainy as a group endeavor rather than the monolithic endeavor of a single individual subverting large groups to work towards their ends.

The idea of a Primus Maleficarius is convenient for simple storytelling, but it's rather puerile when one considers the sort of villainy modern fiction is presenting. Including, in one case, a sentient virus.

In short, that anon's message can be summarized:

She was dead for half the campaign with her soul stuck in a painting. That was still enough to almost kill the PCs because of how well she planned ahead almost 100 years before the campaign even started. Eventually she got revived and after the PCs get out of the time loop she imprisoned them in, they put her in there with no hope of escaping. Eventually, she just stopped thinking. She only wanted to sacrifice the students in the Academy (who had a lot of latent magical powers) to revive her dead husband and kid and have a happy life with them ;_;

The BBEG of my current campaign is an exiled queen who is building herself a new kingdom out of all the races who have been abandoned/abused/taken advantage of by the Humans/Dwarves/High Elves.

She was an evil empress in every way possible, so she punished herself by:
Cursing herself with selective immortality, so that only those who felt sorry for her (even after learning of all the horrible things she had done) would be able to kill her, for then she knew that she was deserving of the peace of death.
Cutting her legs off so she can't spread her evil away from her throne.
Bound her hands with chains to the wall behind her throne so she can't write evil decrees.
Removed her lower jaw and tongue so she can't command anything evil.
Removed her eye lids so she will always see her own punishment.
Cauterized her skin against her own throne just to seal the deal.

Unfortunately her council was evil too, so they new harness her suffering and curse to empower themselves, but half of them wanted to be liches and the other half demons so they are locked in a stalemate and the only way to kill them is to kill the empress, because of whom everything nasty has happened withing a few hundred year scope.

This thread has just given me a few devilish ideas for the game I'm going to be running soon.
I've been trying to figure out who should be the villain and, well, This may just work out in the end.

Of course she would, she'd make you her favorite fuckboi for rescuing her
>>
>>46298962
I'm trying to brainstorm one right now. The PCs are tasked with guarding a sealed portal to hell, and up until recently they never had to spare it much thought. Now there's glowing moss surrounding it and the markings on the wall holding her and her minions in are staring to wear away quicker (not super quick but the other effects like the moss will keep spreading and cause their own trouble if they try to ignore it and just keep maintaining the seals).
>>
Why are most female BBEG's sexy seductresses or some other regal looking type. We get plenty of psycho males, why not a crazed madwoman?
>>
>>46298962
Yes, she even had a jaunty musical number she sang to the N/G PC and the N/E PC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6yZlGoD5rA
>>
Surprisingly have only had one female BBEG but it was in the worst group I've ever played in.

On the other hand

>BBEG captured our edgy shota mage
>spanked and taunted him
>what the fuck
>I hope no one notices my boner

To this day I can't tell if it was supposed to be sexual or not.

Shiera Whisperwind.
She's an elf, a huge cunt, and sort of like female elf hitler with a hard on for the elf master race.

Straight up bent him over her knee, pulled down his pants, and spanked him until his cheeks were red.
>>
>>46312239
What was the taunting like?
Did she do anything else?

So far it sounds like it could be sexual or the DM might not of realized this could be someone's fetish
>>
>>46312343
Mostly stuff about being bratty a little shit. It made sense and it's why I'm unsure if it was sexual. But then when his player had a chance to escape he was alone in her bedroom with the DM not giving much context to the jump (he was busy with the rest of the party but still) and the sorc's player didn't seem to care and just went straight to business (wasn't a good roleplayer beyond the edgy anime talk). So I was left with a lot of questions.

Sounds like it could have been something to titilate the DM tried to throw in there or the DM could have been trying to go for humiliating (or both possibly) but the PC shut him down

Pity, I'd love for that to happen to me

Wanted to uncreate the world so her ol' nemesis, Chaos, wouldn't exist in the first place.

The poor sods actually living in said world naturally had something to say against that.

Old friend of mine dared me to make a succubus villain that wasn't full magical realm. She ended up being the BBEG of my next campaign.

>Spent a lot of time working as an assassin/bounty hunter for various demon lords. Tended to use the old honey trap, then kill them. Could take souls back "alive" if need be.
>Always had a thing for art. Would often paint or sculpt events from her many hunts.
>At one point helped wreck some random mortal world, the world the campaign takes place on almost a millennia later.
>A great deal of time passes.
>After hunting and killing a very pesky paladin, she loses control and ends up devouring him, instead of bringing his soul back intact, as per the bounty.
>Decides to call it quits, wants to practice her craft.
>Decides to settle down in one of the planes she knew had been mostly destroyed but not entirely, so demons would leave her alone, but she'd have enough mortals to enthrall.
>Builds a cult following, has some half-fiend children she dotes upon.
>Is content living in her mansion working on her art, but eventually decides her vacation should come to a close.
>Decides it's time for her Magnum Opus, a broken plane rebuilt in her own image.

And right now, she's practically won. Heroes are honestly pretty screwed.

As the players saw it: A mentor elf mage is killed and daughter kidnapped. Party goes to rescue and gets into myriad subplots before reaching the BBEG, Huge finale fight begins, with players sure of victory. BBEG does his escape with half the party on his butt, Daughter is being freed from her cell when she calls forth remaining minions and recalls her Eidolon (BBEG) after he has led his pursuers into a death trap. The only female player had been Polymorphed and was writing down my twists before I got to them. Only told the others after she was back

Orlesian noble with a throng of chevalier admirers who she sent after the party to 'defend her honor' when in reality it was because they'd welched on a deal to kidnap her cousin.

She has a white fennec fox mask with golden whiskers and little porcelain curio images of her parents set in the big ears.

Yes. She had a giant monster pussy and devoured entire worlds. Brood-mother/infestation/invasion/tyrranids style.

You know most BBEGs tend to have officers and grunts serving them, right? Alexander the Great may have had a bunch of circumstances that dictated his possibilities, but there wouldn't have been any going to India without him.

I'm doing it right now. The players are adventurer hunters who work directly for the queen of the kingdom, getting rid of 'adventurers' who are trashing the place.

Little do they know she's gotten into blood magic and demon summoning, and she's murdering all the erstwhile heroes they arrest for law breaking so she can level up.
>>
Just finished typing up the concept behind an adventure. Granted its likely to be a short one, and come across as slightly cliche.
The Princess of a kingdom (Pic Related) has gone missing and the PC's are hired on to find and rescue her from the Dark Wizard that kidnapped her.
They don't know anything more about her than that she is loved by the people of her kingdom, and is always wearing long dresses and a hat in public.
Turns out she is the result of the king's enjoyment of a tiefling servant, and is the only living heir when he passes.
They won't realize she is a tiefling until they rescue her; but at the same time, will also end up imprisoned for killing / assaulting her brother (the Dark Wizard) and to keep the truth of her lineage a secret.

So how would a BBEG play out if it was someone like Samus. Basically after a whole 2 campaigns your party attracts the attention of a 3000 year old bounty hunter who decides to hunt you down for sport, money, interest, or some other reason. The hunter would be stupidly powerful and basically your whole party is just trying to get away from her.
>>
>>46298962
My character turned into the BBEG, so yes. Was fun 10/10 would send my party members off to fetch a bullshit macguffin and lock them in an airless demi-plane for all eternity again
>>
The current BBEG of the campaign I'm running is an elf enchantress. When the party found her, she was absolutely raving insane and had dominated a group of people to be her "friends". They treated her like all the best parts of sibling, mother, and friend. She had been working on finishing her thesis from mage college, which was a way to make Dominate Person permanent. Eventually, however, the party decided she was too dangerous in that state and decided to cure her. Now, though, she has her right mind and sees herself as being the only person smart enough to run the country and has since become Queen. Her vision of the world is perfection; an end to sadness, misery, and hardship, with her as the hive mind at the center of the universe.
>>
>>46299069
kek, we had the same thing going on in our party and we did end up turning evil because she was so nice
>>
>>46298962
She was the Moon. Literally the personification of Luna. She was a bitch who decided she was going to destroy the world and herself by crashing the moon, her, into the planet.
We killed the bitch, which may have lead to magic slowly dying out in the world. But none of us were going to live long enough to see that, so who cares.

If the players show any sort of interest in her as a person have her play the heroic victim. "I'm the one who sealed this portal, but I had to do it from this side! It's been centuries, and I figured out how to do it from the other side, but I wasn't able to return until now! Quickly, let me out and help me reseal it before anything else gets out!"
>What's with the moss?
"The seal is weakening from time, it needs to be reset. I can do that! Help me get over there so we can reseal it! Afterwards I should be able to come up with a longer-lasting seal. You'll help me find what I need for a better seal, won't you?"

>As a result, she's fucking terrified of them
>Living in constant fear begins driving her insane again, paranoia eating at her so badly that she hires a squad of Dopplegangers to pose as her around the capital city.

>"Why've you been so mean to us, sending us ultimatums and stay away letters?"
>She manages to get her mouth free, "Because you're going to kill me!!!"
>"What? Is that what this is about? Look, we could have killed you at any point. And we could still do it now."
>Proceeds to blast her wall apart with a maximized cone of cold, accompanied by her wild scream
>"See? Coulda done it there." He blasts the bathtub she's in apart with another maximized spell, leaving a massive scorch mark on her floor and flooding her bathroom.
>"Coulda done it there again. So listen, the moral of the story? Don't worry about us killing you. Because if we wanted to, we could. And we haven't yet!"
>He slaps her cheek playfully, winks, and marches out.

I love those psychopaths to death. Of course, after this little incident, they became enemies of the state and the Queen proclaimed war on their city. Right now, they're trying to figure out how to sneak up on an insane, paranoid, powerful caster who can wipe their minds in a round with her crazy permanent Dominate. They didn't sound like it in that story, but they're sort of afraid of her just as much as she's afraid of them. I guess that's what happens when two high level casters go at it. Whoever casts last, loses.
>>
>>46323616
Surprise rounds are pretty important.

They should invest in really good scrying, teleportation, and items/methods to resist or become immune to compulsion effects.
>>
>>46323616
I'm shipping them now. This had better end with the Rogue either saving and marrying her or the BBEG dominating him into her boitoy.

> thought it would be funny to have top guy be a top girl instead.
> figured instead of classic berating and shit talking minions make her act more like a reassuring mother
> realize how many of my PCs had their parents be killed, as well as NPCs because I'm a little unoriginal
>she's been taking in about half of the NPCs and two PCs wanted to take a break from their characters and change it up so they asked me if they could temporary have their characters be evil to get a breather.
> don't tell rest of party about this so it looks like she has a body count right now.
> other four players flip shit she takes out the two power players
> they now go about much more cautiously, and get a lot more in character because of this.
