Elvish.

Elvenish
>>
>>46259769

Elven.

>>46259818

It's Elven.
>>
>>46259769
Sometimes either. Depends on the setting. Pick whichever you prefer.
>>
>>46259832
No, one of them must be correct and only one of them
>>
>>46259769

It's Elvis.
>>
>>46259769
Seven eleven.
>>
>>46259769
It's gay.
>>
>>46259769
Elvenenonishismenastic.
>>
>>46259769
It won't be Elven for another hour.

It's Ten right now.

After doing some research, the adjective suffix "en" means made of. The adjective suffix "ish" means characteristic of or being.

So one means "Made of elves" which is grammatically correct if you define of as

>Of: belonging to, relating to, or connected with

In otherwords, "(this object is)relating to, belonging to, or connected with elves."

Using the suffix "ish" we arrive at this conclusion.

"(this object is) relating to or has the characteristics of elves."

Therefore, I see "ish" as being a more accurate description when relating to the ethnicity of a person UNLESS given the co-text of being "elvish IRONWORK" for example, meaning that the ironwork is a practice related to that particular ethnicity.

I went full autismo again, mom.

It's shit. They'd be lucky if they dish out something decent.
>>
>>46260151
In that case, it should be Elvish regardless of what you're talking about.

Elven is to wooden. Wooden decribes something physically constructed of wood. Elven describes something physically constructed out of elves.

Elvish is to British. If you wanted to describe archers, weapons, or goods from Britain, you'd say British archers, British weapons, or British goods. Similarly, you'd say Elvish archers, Elvish weapons, or Elvish goods.
>>
>>46259769
it's dumb elf shit
>>
>>46261045
but no one describes a piece of dwarf made armor as "dwarfish." it's dwarven, even though it's not made out of dwarves. well, usually.
>>
>>46261227
Yeah, it still sounds better, but I think it's still grammatically incorrect.
>>
>>46261227

Dwarvish = someone who is a dwarf

Dwarven = made by dwarves
>>
>>46261246
i'm not entirely sure that we can apply traditional semantics here. we are talking about fantasy shit after all. also, even in the real world it's wildly inconsistent. something from Belgium is Belgian, not Belgish.
>>
>>46261256
i think dwarvish/dwarfish sounds more like something that is similar to a dwarf. "yeah, jim? he's kinda dwarfish."
>>
>>46261290
Well, if we're just throwing out the rules of language, obviously it doesn't matter what it should be grammatically.

If it's just for a fantasy setting, then you should go with whichever word sounds best. Dwarven, Elven, Orcish, whatever you like really.
>>
>>46259769
Elfin. Also, dwarfin. Fuck Tolkien and his revisionism.

I love Tolkien, but I prefer elfin. I don't seriously use dwarfin.

If something is made by whitepeople, is it caucasian?
No, it's British or German or French, etc. Figure out the name of your Elf Nation and use that word as a base for the product in question.
>>
>>46261720
It was more of a general question, since a lot of stories just have the Elves as "The Elves"
>>
>>46260151
Ah, but someone can have a wooden expression on their face, despite that face being made of flesh and not wood.
>>
>>46261826
But could a human have an Elven expression?
>>
>>46261854
Of course. What it actually is depends on the kind of elf, though.
>>
>>46259769
eldritch
>>
I would say Elvish for example on The Lord Of The Rings Sting is described by Bilbo as an Elvish Blade not an Elven blade and since Tolkien is the guy who made the elves we know and love in all our common fantasy i will go with that.
>>
>>46259769
Easy, it's garbage
>>
>>46261731
And those stories are shit.

Both can work. Presumably author using them should be consistent and only use one of them.

Although "Elvish" does give opportunity to shenanigans.

Excellent taste, anon!
Elfin is my preferred version as well.
>>
>>46259769
I prefer elvish because I always see el(e)ven

Course, conquering the Elevens is fine too
>>
>>46261720
Ah, but these are entirely different species we're talking about. If you found a sword made by a dog, you'd call it Doggish or Doggen, not Golden Retrieverish, at least not until you had it appraised.

I felt like an idiot when I got that joke. I was like, almost done with the book when it happened.

Also, that book is by far the best Death book, unless Thief of Time is better.

I grew to hate Susan.

Elvish for arts (decoration, design, language, etc)
Elven for crafts (construction, weapons, armour, etc)
