WHY
>>
>>46244371

Gothic war fluff option is just dark eldar but no one gives a fuck about them, so its tau or necrons. Necrons would make it three alliance, three horde factions but Tau is licence to print money so probably that.
>>
>>46244421

>>
>>46244500

>>
>>46244371
>>46244438

The chances are pretty high actually, methinks.

It's one of the factions left that is visually distinct with a mechanically different playstyle while not being hilariously dumb OP like the Necrons.
They also have a large selection of different ship classes for the devs to work with which helps out a lot.
Not to mention they've been a pretty popular faction in recent years.

So it's either that or Tyranids which would be cool too.
>>

They're only OP if the Dev's don't bother to make an effort and balance them. That said, they have so many special rules regarding bracing, armor saves, weapons, etc. that it would be a difficult task.

Still want to see it, mind you.

Eldar stuff is still overwrought and baroque. Sails in space works fine for a game based on the premise of age-of-sail-in-space.

Tau a e s t h e t i c doesn't bother me much though. Their first gen ships were ugly and functional, their second gen stuff looks like their tanks in space. Makes sense. Thematically sometimes people get bootblasted about them being shinny and hopeful, but that's just when people take them at face value. They're in contrast to the bloated and corrupt imperium because they haven't been around long enough, and its already happening to them via etherials/farsight. Sometimes people just want to be mad. Probably doesn't help that their 40k armies tend to be op.
>>
>>46244970

I don't like the Devilfishes in Space look of the second generation Tau. Not that the first one was better. Personally, I'd like a mix between the two styles.
>>
>>46244841
It's more the Tau in general.

Whole concept is just a big irritation to me, and I couldn't really explain why.
>>
>>46244996

Simple. In any other setting, they would be the newcomer brave humans raising stars in the galaxy and the Imperium would be the decadent Alien Empire.

>>
>>46244582
Craftworld Eldar or Admech would be my bet. Easier to implement than Nids or Crons, and would fit the Gothic War scenario better (not that that really matters since they'd be multiplayer only). CWE are mechanically similar to the Corsair fleets (they use the same weapons, holofields and solar sails, and the main difference is just that their ships are a little slower but more durable) so implementing them should be easy, aside from them needing to come up with a new battleship (the BFG CWE fleet consisted of an escort, a light cruiser and a cruiser, all of which had multiple weapon options, as well as the unique ship representing Prince Yriel's flagship, which could easily be used as a base for their battlecruiser).
Same reasons apply to Admech, who'se ships are pretty much like IN ships with fancy arecheotech toys.

It might just be the disparity between fluff and the tabletop that irks me, plus the player-base

Why are Tau so strong on the TT and considered such a big presence in the meta whilst the core factions who run the universe mostly suck?

Why are the iconic fluff units like Space Marines or Dreadnoughts dogshit, whilst the Tau have cheese-lists galore and dominate everything?
>>
>>46245269
Eldar are one of the starting 4 ya dumb grot.
>>
>>46245631

corsairs=/=craftworld eldar
>>
>>46245594
I don't think Tau have really dominated anything after 7th edition dropped and they took away the two things that really made them OP (Eldar allies throwing rerolls on everything and commander joining a Riptide to give it tank hunter, ignores cover and rerolls). They're still strong, on par with SM and Necrons, but nowhere near the level of bullshit Eldar have. Although their "really good shooting but shit at melee" design tends to elad to very binary games, especially when playing against a melee-heavy army. Either they shoot the enemy to death before they get to melee range, or get completely wiped out because the enemy manged to get to combat with them.

Dreads are dogshit because walker rules suck and GW should either completely rewrite them or just give up an make all walkers MCs (not like there's any clear distinction over what's a walker and what's an MC anyway. Clunky Admech robots are MCs, while the Chaos biomechanical maulderfields are walkers).
>>
>>46245666
They're literally the same. Corsairs are just like Inquisitors pretending to be Chaos cultists; it's a cover for deniability.
>>
>>46245720

>lrn to Naval Terminology
but between the wackiness of 40k and the typical misunderstandings about space I'm just glad you realize that sound doesn't travel through space.
>>
>>46244626

If the devs essentially just double their cost and change their brace for impact to something more reasonable they could be pretty doable in this game
>>
>>46245791
A true ork player wouldn't have it any other way.
>>
>>46245771
CWE have their own ship designs, though. The standard Eldar fleet in BFG (and the one included in Armada) is the Corsair one, while picture has the Craftworld ships.

Corsairs often act as privateers for CWE, though, and a lot of Corsair attacks are directly orchestrated by the CWE who usually only deploy their own ships in defence of the craftworld.
>>
Could the extra faction be specifically chaos marines?
I mean, Terminus Est and so on is in the game; maybe a specific corrupted battlebarges and strike cruisers and whatnot fleet?
>>
>>46245771

In bfg tabletop they're not different mechanically. More customization, but that's about it.

>thinks inquisitors pretending to be cultists don't end up being cultists

nice try radical
>>
>>46245936
Possible but I doubt it because there wasn't a list for them in tabletop.
>>
>>46244569

The bonuses you get for favor of admech do not really represent how admech play or make your ship into an admech ship.

Even space marine ships have more difference to them than just boarding action bonuses
>>
>first fight as orks

>the minute I see him he blasts me with two novas
>boths my lights cruisers on 70% health left

Yeah, what the fuck were they thinking? Not like its hard enough to even do a ramming with no side thruster boost, but I actually take a shitloads of damage for ramming too. What the fuck.
>>
>>46244872

Inquisition is three unique ships that you add to any imperial fleet, one of those ships is Ordo malleus only, the other is a glorified escort objective.

I'm not complaining, I play inquisition IRL.
Inquisitorial cruisers are fucking baller though. 10/10 battlecruisers
>>
>>46245962
I thought there was a specific list for CSM in tabletop, like a subset of normal traitor lists. Had some catches, and you got free SM crews on all ships.
>>
>>46246023
Yeah but like, marines are technically only two ships and some escorts as well.
>>
>>46246043
Yeah but they still only get regular chaos ships. So it would be a reskinned fleet at best and people would complain about that. They would be pretty shitty choice.

>>
>>46246201
where?
>>
>>46246060

Battle barges and strike cruisers can swap a bunch of shit, plus marines have their own "unique" escorts

Inquisition literally has the inquisitorial cruiser, the grey knight strike cruiser and the blackship. If you take majority GK strike cruisers you can take a battle barge as well.

They don't make a great standalone fleet but they're fantastic additions to a normal imperial or space marine fleet. They're awesome bonus ships for campaigns and black ships are more fun to defend than cargo transports
>>
>>46246240
Oh I know, I just mean to say that the other expansion army probably won't be an entirely new faction.
>>

Well maybe they'll get ambitious.

But fuck Id love being able to take an inquisitorial cruiser. It's an Overlord battlecruiser that's 6+/75 armor all around and trades it's dorsal lances for launch bays (with thunder Hawks) and prow torpedoes for mother fucking bombardment cannons.

It's also just plain 5cm faster. It's only weakness is that you literally can only take 1.

Right as you select the ship initially. You can switch the yellow-colored default weapons for the green-colored options at the cost of 1 KP each. So a light Ork crusier can trade in the torpedoes for a hwavy prow gun or trade in its broadside gunz for heavy kannonz or trade in the broadside gunz for launch bays. This has to be done when you initially select the ship or when you replace it. Repalcement also menas you lose your skills and upgrades though. (But not faovur or captain levels.)

Yes im aware of that. I may eventually offer that as a service, but the primary goal of this project is to make a free proxy library, a 3D analogue to the already available 2D printable library.

If you are at a school, you may have access to a tech lab with an appropriote printer. I happen to manage such a lab. I started this project for 3 reasons:

Be a contributing member
Make myself virtually free fleets
Build a portfolio of tgis type of work that i could bring to a game design firm and get a sweeter job

You are absolutely right though, someone with a printer could make a killing, and i encourage them to. But i also encourage the next guy to undercut them, and the guy after that, until im encouraging the last guy to just print them themselves or whatever. open and free is the way to be. The goal with this, and with any other """"""""""intellectual property""""""""" type thing is to make the idea accessable and modifyable, but the service of implementing the idea will tend to be subject to supply and demand

I hate to discuss the vidya in here rather than /v/ but has anyone with the beta seen if there's a full campaign for each race in single player?

Imperium campaign only. It's also a defensive one like Attila. You are not the only one admiral in town, you just control your fleet.

>>
>>46248334
Cool. I was wondering because of the blurb about upgrading at Port Maw.

Are the missions fairly varied and how's the story stuff both in and between levels? One of the things I dislike about a lot of these games is how disconnected and context-lacking the missions seem. I miss games like Red Alert 2 with interrupts from characters, FMVs between missions and so on.

The blood axes nova kannon is pretty bad.

It has a 25% chance of exploding when you fire it, which takes out every prow weapon on the ship.
>>
>>46248206
Ork version of station defense should allow you to ram the station at enemy ships.
>>
>>46249010

So the answer is to increase the number of Broadside weapons!

>>46249102
the ork stations are too adorable for that.
>>
hmm so is the orc battlecruiser really underwhelming?, its exactly the terror(cruiser) but with 1x additional prow mount/same amount of good orc points to spend.
>>
>>46249107
feels like a waste really. blood axes only gives you a shitty version of the nova cannon and the ability to use running silent, which isn't that great for orcs.
>>
>>46247760
Try using Brace For Impact, you might actually survive the first hit and be able to turn around and do it again.
>>
>>46249178
It's underwhelming, but it only costs a few more points than a cruiser, so is still pretty good.

RTeally nitpicky, but does anyone find it a bit strange the Kill Kroozer is called the Terror? Terror Ship implies ordnance to me, but Kill Kroozer can really imply anything.

>>46249380

>>
>>46249402
The Ded Killy Device would actually make the Hammer distinct from the Kroozer too.
>>
>>46248776
Actually, you keep the favours and captain levels, only the upgrades and skills are lost.
>>
Has anyone tried the Mega Zzap Kannons yet?

5% chance for the weapon to break each time it fires seems a pretty bad trade for a long range, but otherwise completely standard, lance battery.
>>
>>46249402

>>
>>46249545
the DKD. Its one of the prow weapons on the 'Ammer class, its built from salvaged nova cannons and can fire as either a Bombardment cannon or as a torpedo launcher

They should make the rate of ships disengaging increase based on how many ships have died and how much the remaining ones have health.
>>
>>46249575
It's even included as trandard armement for the Hammer in Rogue Trader, although called "Gargoz's Ded Kunnin Devise", Gargotz being the mek who purpotedly invented it for a warboss called Urzok Armripper, who wanted a weapon that could fire torpedoes and bombardment cannon shells at the same time. Since Gargotz got it half right (the device can fire tboth types of ammunition, but not at the same time), Urzok only ripped off one of his arms.
>>
>>46249722
>>46249737
Orks unstoppably fleeing to shit like that without an upgrade is a bit shit. I get that they want orks to feel less controllable than other navies, but having them just flee is bad.

It would be better if Ork kaptins were less a lot likely to flee when that happens, but more likely to do other random shit like focusing on the enemy ship that just killed something (taunt effect), pushing the big red button or suddenly firing torpedoes.

The squig cage upgrade could then stop that too.

So uh, funny bug: If an Ork ship's engines get citted out while the Big Red Button is active, the ship is permanently stuck in BRB GOTTA GO FAST! mode.

I had one of my kroozas basically just careening all over the map in a match, basically reduced to doing jousting/ramming drive-by before spending the next half minute circling back.

>>46250462
The zzap is basically just a slightly more powerful lance.

Lore question here: Can Orks survive in a vacuum? Do they wear fully insulated space suits or can they actually leave skin exposed because they're ridiculously durable?

Stumbled upon this video where it seems to be claimed that
GW might re-release BFG or something

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnRTzMVpSOg
>>
>>46250681

Just started out with an Imperial admiral specifically so I could test out fighting the Orks.

Results have varied from absolutely curb-stomping some to barely eking out a win on others. My torpedo CLs and Firestorms can put up a solid fight so long as I can pay attention and micro them out of the way of ramming attacks.

That said, I basically won one match on a technicality. I was down to one 3/4 health, on-fire Firestorm (heh) against a heavily-damaged Ork cruiser. I boosted forward hoping to get in some last-minute damage before the flames consumed me, only to see the Ork cruiser get Insubordinate Captain *twice* and disengage, giving me a win.

I'm pretty happy with the Orks so far, the only complaint I have is that the lotz o gunz feel slightly too weak to be of any real use. They fire too slowly imo.
What is /tg/'s thoughts?
>>
>>46244626
Necrons would probably be very outnumber, and lack that mini warp jump thing you can do

Or have an issue with power like you can auto repair quickly but you need to drop weapons or shields also turn on a phase shifter at the cost of speed and weapons
>>
How the hell do I get to actually play this game, like what the fuck. Bought it, downloaded it and it launches but then doesn't respond to anything. Checked the game cache, reinstalled it, updated my graphics crad. Fucking nothing.
>>
>>46251050
For what orks to best not taking kannons is stupid. Chuck AP rounds on it and a lite kroozer can go toe to toe with a IN cruiser

ON the subject of general balance, they are not bad. Savages are maybe a bit too cost efficient because packs of 3/4 can take out Cruisers and beat the snot out of them and a least cripple them. Orks pack a lot of armour but their shields drop at the drop of a hat. Before anyone says ramming is overpowered when orks hit the button they are easy to dodge by coming to a new heading and forcing a glancing blow which does naff all damage

What a lot of people don't get is that orks are soo unmanoverable and I have had that exploited a few times to great effect. People just need to get used to the new grot on the block

I agree that ramming is fucking hard against something that isn't a standard Cruiser. So I think ramming is just powerful enough. Especially with that dedicated ramming escort. I don't like that if you don't brace for impact it kills itself ramming anything larger than it

For that, they do get low level games, but the lesser player gets a +5% bonus to points limit for every level the enemy admiral has on them, iirc.

I think in the eventual form it will be a little avoided by matchmaking, but at the moment more games and faster queues are the focus.

Even so, Imperium needs to be buffed. They're meant to be close quarters tanks yet orks completely outmatch them. A battleship broadside will tickle an ork cruiser's shields, while that same cruiser can tear your battleship a kilometre-wide anus if it has the goff favour buffing it's ram.

I dont think orks should be nerfed, I enjoy their unique mechanics, but the Imperium needs to be able to hold its own for more than a few seconds up close with them.
>>
>>46253381
Free Cobra every 150 seconds and no more worry about insubordination is pretty dope. Astartes are great for fast, short-ranged ships like Dauntless and Dominator to beef up your boarding/lightning strikes. Mechanicum is neat for some ships, extra upgrade ain't bad and half ost on everything means you cna experiment some. And Inquisition is just eally fucking great for carriers - seven free crew points and the ability to reveal sensor blips without having to go into augur range is great for ships that want to keep at range while throwing out strike craft.
