Alessio Cavatore is now writing a My Little Pony RPG, and has officially admitted to being a brony. Thoughts?
I'm probably gonna get banned for even posting this, but this is just as much /tg/-relevant news as it is horsefaggotry
>>
>>46236610
>Alessio Cavatore
Literally who?
>>
>>46236664
you fucking know who he is.
>>
>>46236704
I genuinely, non-sarcastically, have no idea who this person is or why anybody cares about him. Please, enlighten me. I don't know him from Adam, so why is he important.
>>
>>46236749

He was an oldschool Games Workshop guy. I mostly remember the name from Mordheim.
>>
>>46236610
Meh.
He seems to mostly be avoiding the pitfall of horsefaggotry. He's just a dad who enjoys a silly tv show with his daughter and wants to do something for her.
If I knew him personally, I would rib the shit out of him over it, but it's not like he's one of those creepy bastards on the board that shall not be named or anything.
>>
>>46236610
Who gives a shit?
>>
>>46236798
>He was an oldschool Games Workshop guy.
Okay. Neat. So fucking what? He admits he likes the show and wants to work on the RPG both basically solely because his daughter likes it and that makes her think he's a cool dad. The whole "OMG Brony" thing is years out of date, no one gives a shit anymore.
>>
>>46236834

We have our own creepy bastards here anyway.
>>
>>46236749
He did a lot of GW's best work, co-writing 40k (before it went to shit in 5e when GeeDubs fired all their cool people), as well as Warmaster, Mordheim and LotR. He also wrote Mantic's Kings of War, as well as Bolt Action and Deus Vult if you're a /his/fag.
He has a reputation for elegant and well-balanced rules.
>>
I mean, it's a fun cartoon to watch with your daughter. It only gets creepy when you're an old man watching the show by himself, breaking out pony fleshlights.

Is he doing it as a hobby or is he being paid to write it

I mean, a paycheck's a paycheck

If I had any artistic skills I'd do pony commissions all day long. Rake in some serious money
>>
>>46236610
There's a huge difference between "I love the tv show... that probably makes me a brony" and /mlp/ or tumblr.
>>
>>46236858
>The whole "OMG Brony" thing is years out of date, no one gives a shit anymore.

I wouldn't say that. They're still really fucking creepy and cringe-inducing, just like the furry crowd they overlap. They've learned their place a little better, but they're still a really sad group of freaks.
>>
>>46236910
>If I had any artistic skills I'd do pony commissions all day long. Rake in some serious money
Can you write fiction? Even shitty fiction? Can you learn? Do you have zero self respect? Can your mind survive contact with weird and creepy fetishes? Then you, too, have a future writing terrible fanfiction porn to commission. You'll rake in tons of money, you'll just have trouble looking at yourself in the mirror when you pay your rent with that 30,000 word epic Street Fighter fanfiction about M Bison cutting off Chun Li's limbs and using her as a literal fuck toy.
>>
>>46236915
They're only creepy if you make them creepy.

90% of the time people blow this shit way out of proportion. very rarely do I see any cringelords leave their own sites or containment boards, it's only when others bring it up to complain about them that anyone even remembers they exist.

Hold the phone, you can make MONEY writing bad fiction on the Internet? I mean, I do that for free sometimes, for fun. Maybe not 30k words about Street Fighter snuff, but still.

How much money exactly is "tons," and how exactly does this actually work? I'm serious, I don't think I believe you.
>>
>>46236972
You, sir, just gave me an erection and something to go questing for on the Internet. Thank you kindly.
>>
>>46237059

I know some who take furry commissions to pay the rent, though they do the more tame side of furry stuff.

Honestly, I can't blame them, or even think a single bad thing about them. It's hard enough making a living as an illustrator, so you might as well go for the low-hanging fruit with deep pockets.

Thing is, you'll never see that stuff in their online profiles, personas, and galleries. They know how to compartmentalize and advertise to one crowd while doing another for the majority public.
>>
>>46237101

If you're going to do that, you're going to have to get in deep first.
>>
>>46237101
>How much money exactly is "tons,"
The going rate I've heard is maybe between $5-20 per few thousand words, depending on prestige or workload, and/or shitting out tons of 5-buck mini-porn novels on Smashwords or whatever.
>and how exactly does this actually work?
Go on a site with a lot of pathetic nerds with weird fetishes, show off your existing writings, offer commissions, pick up steam over time.
>>
>>46237120
This coming from an insider, the pockets aren't as deep as you think, nor are the fruit as low-hanging as they look. Your friend is the exception, not the rule.
If you want to do commission work, your drawing/writing should be fairly competent stuff and you should be able to step up your own game now and then.
>>
>>46237196

These people I know have done work for Boom Studios and Disney. They know how to step up their game.
>>
>>46237006
It's not like /tg/ isn't full of turbo neckbeards anyway. Just look at literally any MTG convention.
>>
>>46237214
Again, the exception, not the rule. I'm not taking a jab at your friends, I'm trying to warn the potential entrepreneurs here not to get over-excited about making anything close to a livable wage on freelance writing and drawing unless they have serious talent.
Your friends sound pretty set though, so more power to 'em
>>
>>46237101
>>46237167
I think there's a site where you post your fiction and you get a little money whenever someone buys a digital copy. Kinda like those tshirt printing websites where you create a design and get some coin whenever someone buys the shirt.
>>
>>46236610
I bet that cunt sticks True Line Of Sight into it somehow.

He can't fucking stop putting it in games, especially games where it's utterly inappropriate.
>>
>>46236610

Who?
>>
>>46237284
Yeah, that's Smashwords. Good if you have weird fetishes or like to write tons and tons of mini stories.
>>
>>46237313
Pretty sure TLoS was Matt Ward. It certainly wasn't a presence in his rules before 5th edition 40k.

>>46237337
Did you even read the thread?
>>
Yeah watched the video when the news broke last week. It sounds like a cute, simple RPG for adults to play with their kids. /tg/ wouldn't like it because it's rules lite and relies mostly on imagination - for instance you pick your own talent and basically extrapolate crazy abilities from it. Ex. Alessios character was a pony that could make really sweet fireworks, or in the terms he put it, was a fucking pyromancer.

Yeah, /tg/ probably wouldn't like it. Most of us have forgotten how to game for fun.
That actually sounds like it could be a nice beer&pretzels rpg for when your main game is getting too heavy and you need a break.
I kinda wanna see his charsheet now
>>
>>46237430
>/tg/ wouldn't like it because it's rules lite and relies mostly on imagination
Well that and it's ponyshit.
>>
>>46237284
I can attest to how little you make. A friend of mine designed a shirt for some major nerd website and was getting maybe $1 a shirt sold when the shirt was $20
>>
>>46237591
/tg/ is like 12% horsefucker anyway. Don't believe me, look at the sleeves at your LGS or local community college student lounge or cafeteria.
>>
>>46237373
Nah it's definitely Alessio. He's stuck it in pretty every game he's worked on since 40k.
Which is not a small amount of games either so the mechanic has become prolific pretty much just by his insistence.
>>
>>46237625
Shit website. With most you decide the price of the shirt and then the printer takes their flat fee out of that. Threadless' fee is $15, so if you charge $25 you get $10 from each sale.
>>
>>46237591
People who still care about that are sadder than the bronies at this point.

No, he's saying that you're a petulant little bitch and deserved to be looked down upon more than the horsefuckers.

He's specifically singling you out for whining about what is practically a non-issue, 6 years after the fact, and then also making a generalized statement about people like you.

I hope you have uncomfortable conversations with a furry the next time you visit your LGS.
>>
>>46237805
"Not liking something" is obviously not the same thing as "not liking something and throwing a tantrum every time you're reminded it exists"

admittedly it was a design a shirt contest so they set the rules. Don't remember much for specifics past that. I probably have the amount wrong, but I do remember it being 10% of retail or less.
>>46237742
Shit is still potentially dangerous. Based on what some anons have done on research in this thread, this dude is simply doing it to be a wonderful father. That being said, most bronies have dropped the fandom leaving only the strangest of the bastards left. Watched the show and was a bit of a brony my freshmen college year at the start of season 2, most people started to drop out around the end of that or 3 because shit went from tolerable depending on which site you were on to what the fuckery and tons of hipsters everywhere at that point

Pretty much this, I ended up getting sucked into that black hole of a fandom when it was still new but dropped out myself midway through the second season, finally cutting all ties by the time the third season came out.

By that time, for some reason a mass-exodus of the "more normal and moderate" fans was occurring, leaving only the extreme autists

It's still dumb to bitch about it 6 years later though, especially since you almost never see them shitting up non-brony places anymore.

>Pic related to those whiners
>>
>>46237805
It's the difference between thinking "BBEG" sounds silly, and going on a buttflustered rant about how retarded it sounds, and by extension how retarded the poster is, every time you see that, sequence of four characters.

You can dislike a thing without being a huge autist about it, just like you can like a thing without being a huge autist. It's the "being a huge autist" part that made bronies and furfags so annoying in the first place, and reversed faggotry is not wit.
>>
>>46237957
Just saw a squad of furries in a park last week, some with pony gear. Say what you want, but I have cousins that are girls, 8, and more like very little sisters to me so I'm more programmed to being overly cautious about stuff like this

Only thing is, there's already a few Pony RPGs.

Ponyfinder, which has gotten mixed reviews

Don't Rest Your Hooves, which everyone here should understand

Poor, Unfortunate Foals, which is meant to be even more depressing

FEMTO, which is a simple system you can use on forums if you're tired of freeform

I'm sure there are two already based around Fallout:Equestria
>>
>>46239192
This is an official Hasbro, or at least licensed, product.
>>
>>46236610
There's already one, it's a hack of savage worlds that has a system for nonlethal combat and a host of pretty nice utility spells. Even if you don't care for the series it's still a decent sourcebook.

>>46236610

I'll play it if the lore is deep.

This shit isn't going to fucking work though unless you make a system that entirely eschews combat. The thematic dissonance would be too high otherwise.

In the My Little Pony show, death is implied as possible (there are monsters that have threatened to eat ponies) but of course physical conflict is always ends nonlethally. There's nothing wrong with this, I'm not about to get on the case of a cartoon for little girls. But how are you going to implement this tonal limitation into an RPG, where players can do anything they think up?
>>
>>46240340

>This shit isn't going to fucking work though unless you make a system that entirely eschews combat. The thematic dissonance would be too high otherwise.

Not every system has combat end in Death.

Legends of the Wulin for example is designed for high flying Wuxia combat but Death is a very rare occurrence as the system promotes non-killing ways of taking people out (Forcing them to retreat/stand down/run away crying because you are that good at being a bitch)

>where players can do anything they think up
I'm stumped by people still making this assumption.
In a Tabletop Roleplaying Game, players can do anything they can think up (and here's the important part) within the confines of the system, the setting and the social contract between the participants.

If you're going to play a MLP game, it is generally understood that you're not going to kill anyone. The rules will probably spell out as much, too.
If killing is allowed/encouraged, then the players are expected to talk it through beforehand. Other than that, it's the GM's responsibility to put down the foot and tell the offender to cut it out.

>>46240591
Well, the bar is pretty damn low there.
D&D as a whole is still about a decade behind on the curve, thanks to legacy rules, marketing and the sheer inertia of the company and its customers.

It's the same as anything, a small minority of annoying cunts who are the loudest and give a fandom a bad name.
