What are some easy ways to give a non-strongtail merfolk a speed (land or flight) of at least 30? All Paizo and Dreamscarred allowed, level 5 gestalt.

I want to avoid a mount if possible. Fins to Feet is too costly at this level.

Hey /pfg/, you guys probably know something about DPR calcs. How do I factor in a source of damage that only applies once per round, but can apply on any one attack that connects? Specifically Mesmerist's Painful Stare, if it matters.

Regarding last thread's brief discussion on phylacteries:
Successful Lich leading my undead army to world domination here.
I've already conquered two "countries" (what the fuck is Paizo smoking, it was like taking candy from a baby).
My phylactery is in my private demiplane. All the plane contains is my phylactery and just enough room for a body to form nearby. The plane is covered in about 18 permanent spells, including Mage's Private Sanctum, Nondetection, Protection from Good, Alarm, what-have-you. Layers of redundancy, just in case. Time does not pass inside the demiplane, and there is no need to eat, drink or sleep while within. You also cannot die of old age in the demiplane, as time doesn't pass. Any living being within is technically immortal. The only way inside the demiplane is for me to "die" and be recreated there, after which I am free to teleport wherever I desire.
The phylactery itself is my daughter, restrained so it can't kill itself, inside a small box covered in multiple layers of adamantium, inubrix and dreamstone, and enveloped in a shitload (at least 30) different permanent spells. The phylactery is a 17th level Sorcerer that's got a Geas to blast anyone but me with a slew of save-or-die spells (about 8 or so I believe) if they somehow miracle themselves into the demiplane. If that defense fails and the phylactery's container is damaged even a little, the phylactery teleports to my location as a last ditch effort. To prevent the phylactery from doing anything, the metal was molded around it, making sure it's restrained. It cannot kill itself due to a Geas preventing such activity.
My GM has absolutely no idea how to kill me.

I wanted to steal this for a homebrew setting, having a kitsune demigod stuck living in a cursed wood, too weak to escape because nobody remembered they existed. As long as they stayed near their shrine, they had awesome power, but too far away and they'd be too weak to defend themself.

If the party ever ran into the shrine, he would mistake a random party member for an old friend and refuse to hear reason.

>My character's major goal is to become a merchant, king snaps his fingers and it's done, least satisfying completion of character motivation I've ever had
>Other characters ask for other stuff, fighter wants a cool sword, rogue wants to be put in charge of thieves guild, druid was all like "No don't reward me goodness is its own reward!"
>King now insists we join an expedition he's sending across the eastern sea to a new continent
>"Wait I thought you were making me a merchant"
>Turns out he's giving me a wagon full of supplies and expects me to set up business in the unexplored continent that has no known civilization on it, apparently selling supplies to the rest of the expedition

This isn't even touching on the first encounter being with a CR 18 kraken on our ship, the DM surprising us with the fact that he decided to use Unchained Action Economy (never mentioned anything about Unchained before that), or that the druid wanted her tiger animal companion to fuck my halfling. Yes and no.

She's a horrible witch-bitch because she's a very jealous being that is not above landslides, plagues, or brutally murdering every woman in your life just for attention... But at the same time, she became this way due to centuries of loneliness and isolation in a tiny shrine on a lonely mountain.

Her actions are inexcusable, but the reasons behind her actions are sympathetic.

If time doesn't pass in the demiplane, then the 1d10 days it will take for your body to reform when you die will never pass. I think you've made a mistake. It's the same way that buff spells can't run out while you're on a demiplane where time doesn't pass.
>>
>>46224152

Why would you possibly want to leave your modern young adult life to spend eternity in a lame little shrine with a clingy kitsune that hasn't even gained her third tail?
>>
>>46224098
>>46224142
I mean it wouldn't be my first rodeo with freaky ERP so if it weren't for the fact that everything else in the game were awful I probably would have stuck around and played it out. The DM was on-board with that too, I think he and the druid players were friends or something. They seemed to know each other.

But everything else WAS awful and I didn't even consider the idea of sticking around.
>>
>>46224159
My reformation takes 12 seconds, or rather, two standard actions worth of spellcasts, which works fine in there. One to create the body, and one to place my soul within. Once I die, my soul returns to the phylactery instantaneously.
Ah, Spheres of Power...
>>
>>46224210
I spend all my time in one dingy room anyway, may as well pay to run DSL to a shrine and spend it in a slightly less dingy room with a cute girl who wants me.

No, that's the actual autism at work there. He literally can't decipher or communicate emotions through text, so he has no idea how to read or write tone. What he's actually done has been pretty nice. Things are going to get wild when she gets her ninth tail.

Although it does sound like she's been around for a long time and still been stuck at two tails, which suggests she's doing something VERY wrong.

Mainly, being a mature, wise and responsible adult, which is what the tails are meant to reflect.

Real talk dudes: I'm autistic as all hell. You don't have to put that shit on public display. You can learn, through rote repetition if nothing else, to act like a human fucking being. The fact that he doesn't, and will prefer to argue the same stupid point for five goddamn threads despite getting blown the fuck out from response one, because he is somehow incapable of wrapping his head around the fact that he's wrong, tells me that he's either lazy, doesn't think we're worth it, or thinks himself better for it. These are all traits I find abhorrent, because that kind of shit is what gets autists shit on in the first place.

Well he's definitely not lazy, because as another diagnosed autist who is definitely a lazy fuck, I can confirm that the combinations leads to being chill enough to just let things go when you disagree with someone on the internet. I'm sure as hell not going to type out 6,000-ish characters across multiple posts just to address all the fine points of why I disagree with someone. Ignore the irony in this post, it's not lost on me.

Can confirm that it's possible for autists to learn to act at least somewhat natural. We're not all alike though, so I'm sure some people have a harder time of it. I consider myself lucky that my /tg/ interests helped me make some friends IRL during high school, since that in turn helped me learn to function normally. More normally, at least.

Magic. Kitsune is pretty easy though, you have a kitsune ancestor which is pretty plausible since in japanese mythology all kitsune seem to do is try and get into the pants of some poor man. >>
>>46224497
Touhou. He might be somewhat annoying, but he brings up good points and has a reasonable grasp of the rules, which has allowed him to add some things to the FAQ through speaking with DSP devs.

BUILDPOSTER on the other hand seems to lack any sort of system mastery and is generally abrasive, moreso than the earnest lack of understanding 2hu has.

Combat maneuvers don't provoke attacks of opportunity unless you botch them. Improved maneuvers/dirty fighting means they don't provoke period.

You can high-jump much higher if you roll well enough, because it makes sense to me that the brawler who killed a fucking triceratops in one punch can jump high enough to grab a flying mage.

>Treat Deadly Wounds: When treating deadly wounds, you can restore hit points to a damaged creature. Treating deadly wounds restores 1 hit point per level of the creature. If you exceed the DC by 5 or more, add your Wisdom modifier (if positive) to this amount. A creature can only benefit from its deadly wounds being treated within 24 hours of being injured and never more than once per day. You must expend two uses from a healer's kit to perform this task. You take a –2 penalty on your Heal skill check for each use from the healer's kit that you lack.

TWF gives you the second attack on your standard action, one-handing lets you use Combat Expertise with no attack penalty, and shields are all keyed to a particular physical damage type that they're weak to so they provide DR [x] / that type. Wasn't all BUILDPOSTER's math based on not actually taking any burn beyond what you sign up for at the start of the day to get some passive stat bonuses? I don't know how Kineticist works so I didn't pay that much attention, but I think I remember him saying something like that.

I got a female Kitsune bard in my group. Although my character refuses to believe she is Kitsune, instead believing she is a human with the power to turn into a fox-person.

I was also the one who had to break the news to our Gunslinger that, no, her fox form is not just having a fox tail and ears.
>>
>>46223889
I liked him!
>>
>>46224968
That's pretty much how you have to play kineticist: you have a certain amount of burn that you need to get Elemental Overflow bonuses, so you distribute exactly that much burn into your passives (the defense wild talents).

You don't ever want to take burn past that, so all combat and utility tech is judged based on 'can I activate this with no more than a move-action of Gather Power'. Internal Buffer gives you a tiny bit of leeway, but by and large 'taking burn' is something you should never ever do as a PC kineticist.

2hufag really is a nice guy. He does have significant flaws; mainly perfectionism, an inability to stop arguing when he thinks he's in the right, and that coupled with unable to read people's emotions well does make him frustrating for a lot of people.

But he's not malicious, takes things to heart when trying to improve, and from what I understand he runs well balanced and flavourful games, if somewhat uninspired characterwise.

I've always found him to be trying as hard as he can to be polite while putting forth his opinion; sadly 4chan sees that as being passive aggressive, rather than being oblivious/unresponsive to the barbed jibes thrown at him.

Got a question, /pfg/.

My group's getting back into PF after a long haitus from the game, and we're starting a new campaign this weekend with level 4 characters. My GM has indicated he thinks it might be best for the group if I tried playing a wizard, given that my compatriots are not generally inclined to play full-casters and we usually end up needing one.

Only thing is, I've never actually played a full-caster, either. How the fuck does one wizard at level 4? I'm not used to classes that have basically nothing to fall back on when spells per day are exhausted.

That human emperor's train of thought regarding little Mare was priceless, I'll admit.

Overlord's one of the few where 'traps' are played out fairly amusingly and not disgustingly or creepily.

Mostly because the guardians don't actually understand the concept but have "deciphered" that obviously since a supreme being wanted it this way it's definitely how things must be; children wear the opposite sex's clothing until they're old enough.

Demiurge is probably wondering at what age to get Mare a nice suit worthy of his position.

>>
>>46226138
Oh, and because I realized I forgot how to do the first step.

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/monsters/monsterCreation.html

Those are the average stats for a monster of any given CR. Compare your to-hit to whatever AC you'd like, usually a monster with CR equal to your level for a mook or CR+4 for a boss. Many monsters vary from these because they're meant to be strong/weak in different areas, but it's a bit hard to take that into account. For an example, let's look at a level 6 full-BAB class, assuming two iterative attacks at +10/+5 for nice round numbers.

Average AC at CR 6, a mook to this guy, is 19. So the first attack hits on a roll of 9 or higher, and the second hits on 14 or higher. So for all attacks to miss, this guy has to roll an 8 or lower on the first iterative, a 40% chance, AND then roll a 13 or lower on the second iterative, a 65% chance. To find the probability of both of these occurring, multiply .4 and .65 to get .26, or a 26% chance both attacks miss a mook. In this case, you would multiply your painful stare's average damage by .74, since painful stare has a 74% chance of applying to a mook encounter.

For CR 10, a boss encounter to our hypothetical level 6 full-BAB guy, the average AC is 24. He needs a 14 or higher to hit with the first and a 19 or higher to hit with the second. The chance of either missing is 65% for the first and 90% for the second. Thus, the chance of both missing would be 58.5%, and since your painful stare would apply 41.5% of the time, you would multiply its average damage by .415 to find its average DPR against a boss.
>>
>>46226168
Nah, I like 'em both well enough. I just vastly prefer the aesthetics of the female body, which traps (and yeah, futa) are way closer to than regular dudes.
>>
>>46226184
No, ranger traps are particularly terrible.

First off it's a class ability you have to pay for. Literally.

Second, it takes forever. It's not like some games where 'traps' are something you'd quickly set as an action like a delayed blast fireball or the like.

Third, the general parameters of them are complete shit.

*THAT SAID*... There ARE ways of maximizing traps that are completely broken and go against the very spirit of the game... and THOSE can actually be somewhat useful.

I won't say too much lest it be forever "errata" nerfed away, but consider covering yourself in things that'll autotrigger and self-reset while you fight; effectively weapons not using your actions.

Bring me the named NPCs I've actually formed some bonds with, man. Let's have a some actual emotional reunions instead of the DM wanking himself over how cleverly he wove the plot into these dumbfuck's lives.

Obligatory DSP shill http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?452172-Dreamscarred-Press-Presents-quot-Arcforge-Technology-Expanded-quot
Vehicle part is only starting to be rolled out for playtest I think.
There was airship book in playtest for a week or so, but apparently it was awful and shelved.

yeah, most of my table would cross the critical paranoia threshold after about half an hour of this.

it... it would not end well for those strangers.

You know what, I change my mind. I want to play this session now that you've reminded me that wanton murder is always an option. "YOUR LIFE IMPROVED? TIME TO RESTORE THE STATUS QUO!"

Speaking of, can you suggest how to make meeting the king or duke a serious event?

I'm trying to figure out when I should let the party meet the king, but I'm starting to think that they might not ever get the chance at all; the king does all his work through the chancellor of courtiers, and the party only gets a heart-to-heart near the end of the game.

Call us when they have a price in goldpieces, not in class features.

Same goes for the mechs, whilst we're talking about it.

• Strength refluffed to Guts.
• Weapon list is mostly guns.
• Most guns can make 'melee' attacks and threaten out to 10ft using Guts to hit and damage as if they are melee reach weapons, but can also make a true ranged attack as a standard action, as a special ability of the weapon. These attributes flucuate with weapon variety of course.
• Long-ranged bows still exist as sniper rifles with their Dex-based hitting (Guts to damage though).

Modern setting that can actually use all the melee-focused gameplay of PF. Your wizard will look like a dork though.

>Druids get motorcycles, not fighters.
>Run off ride
>Unlike the Pure steam gyrocycle which uses accrobatics

>Requires class features, uses inflexible skills, isn't anything special.
>Jarring implementation that comes across like a D&D wiki page.

Better yet, let's all pretend this didn't happen and just slap the thundering charge on the gyro cycle

The math here is fine, but the CRs presented are off and the monster creation table is an inaccurate farce. You'd get better numbers from looking through a few creatures of the appropriate CR of varying roles, and looking at what NPCs of the right level are capable of.

A creature of your CR is not a mook, unless you consider your character a mook for some reason. They're the same threat level as your character. You're more likely to see creatures 1 to 3 CRs under you running interference or throwing abilities around in a well designed encounter, and an enemy of your CR or 1 or 2 points higher as a 'boss'.

What was the absolute cutest thing to ever happen in your time playing Pathfinder?

Good points. I assumed that he was in a party of 4-6 PCs and thus one creature of level-equivalent CR was not a challenge, fair enough, should have mentioned the party assumption. It's also true that looking at actual statblocks of monsters and NPCs will be more accurate, but in my experience if you'd just like a quick ballpark estimate of something the monster creation table is acceptable. Although to be fair that also assumes you have enough experience to know what sort of margin of error the table has.

>60ft max speed

Fuck that, I get better speeds out of my pure steam bicycle and it only costs me 500gp.

Spend 1,000gp on an engine made of two clockwork prosthetic legs, some spring-heal shoes and some tanks of expedition retreat oil and you breach 180ft speed, easy.

Ssalarn's obsession with his own shitty mech rules is going to fuck this shit right up.

News flash, Ssalarn: Your mech user classes are borderline unplayable and you made a motorcycle slower than most bicycles.

>Remove its ability to ever resist adamantine even with enhancement upgrades at higher levels where shit's hitting you for 50-60 per swing in a full attack and the hardness would actually finally count for something
>Motorcycles are a class feature

This is not cool, guys. not cool at all.

Ah, finally a way to pilot giant robot animals. I wonder how it-
>Your animal companion must be a motorcycle. Sadly no way of fluffing a druid pilot that makes sense, so your GM should feel free to ban this.

Okay, here goes

>Handle Animal
Velvet Lash. Supernatural, it focuses on restricting enemies while also giving bonuses to Ally actions and movements. Weapon Groups are Flails, Spears, and Polearms

>Appraise
Gilded Eye. Supernatural. Focuses on creating and manipulating "supply and demand" of the battlefield. Includes granting temporary HP and points to people's different pools, balancing out the strengths of allies and enemies, and redirection. Can also use coins as weapons. Weapon Groups include Bows, Thrown, and Polearms

>Use Magic Device
Diamond Butterfly. Supernatural, this discipline is a bit different. It specializes in granting equipment Enhancement bonuses, transferring Qualities between weapons and armor in your possession, and even chaining, linking, and using magic items with your Weapon. Weapon Groups are Double Weapons, Monk Weapons, and you can use Staffs, Wands, and Rods as Discipline Weapons.

>Linguistics
Iron Tongue. Not sure what to do here. Feels like it would have too much overlap with Golden Lion and Scarlet Throne. Could possibly be paired with Craft (calligraphy) to make a fruity writing-themed discipline. Weapon Groups would be Light Blades, Polearms, and Spears.

That should cover the basic skills. Next will be the Knowledge ones

Thoughts?

So, how about the fact you can quite easily have said mech destroyed and become an expert.

Reactor Knight below lvl 5 is painful to play.

Unfortunately, tinfoil hat actually has a point.

Consider the ramifications of the "War on <insert subject here>", rampant data collection and Civil Assets Forfeiture.

What the fuck *else* can you call having no legal protection against being sexually assaulted just because it's an airport and the person wears a uniform?

What the fuck *else* can you call having your shit stolen by cops or feds purely for the sake of "we want a new TV, and I want this guy's tablet for free"?

That's not even counting the amount of blackmail and stalker creeping that has been provided and enhanced by the data acquisition programs and drone tech, which have *both* already been proven (and officially admitted to) to have done *nothing*(for our security) save be used for wanton abuses ranging from creeping on your ex to planting pedo files on people you don't like?

Systematic, organized, government-protected crime, where the victims have no legal recourse and are severely outgunned can and does happen. It happens a lot.

We're standing knee deep in the shit, and most of us can't bring ourselves to see it because it's too much like a bad movie.

So why not just, like, link your HP to the mech's or something? You already have a psychic bond with it.
