Despite this, the game is thematically centered around hard work, guts, and determination. The fact characters with all of these regularly fail and/or die because they're not the chosen ones is glossed over.
There is at least one incredibly cute monster that either talks or everyone can somehow just understand its squeaks that follows one particular character around constantly despite no evidence of actual training or ownership. This creature may also specifically hate one person so much and for no apparent reason and constantly hurts/maims/attempts to kill them.
All main characters are minors despite looking like adults, except the one that is several hundred years old but looks like she's in middle school.
Also, no minor's parents ever make an appearance in any meaningful way.
There needs to be a spin-off series based solely on a sport which is mostly fanservice. Despite using a well known and official sport all the main protagonist and antagonist characters are for some odd reason able to use their "special abilities" within the game without anyone giving a damn.

All characters and abilities are represented by cards, character cards are incredibly rare, abilities are uncommon, and items are common as flies on shit. The cards have to be waved around for some odd reason to activate abilities or use items, and if a character gets his hands on his own card he can enhance his own abilities drastically with the power of determination.
Oh, and there are incredibly rare items that represent the seven virtues or some shit and "friendship" and other similarly cheesy ideals, these "crests" unlock super-powerful ultra-mega-final-form transformations in whoever wears them.
And lastly... There needs to be far more ways to merchandise the setting. Because the vast majority of profit from the franchise comes from selling useless junk from the anime.

Nah, it's a modern-day setting where students train towards a specific fantasy class, and when they graduate they're transported to a vaguely Medieval Europe world (which works like an MMO for no particular reason). There are two ultra-rare classes called "Hero" and "Demon Lord", with only one student at the school for each, but neither of them are that talented and they struggle with the pressure of their role. Also the Demon Lord is female.

Airships have been a staple of the Final Fantasy series for decades, from which they've spread over to the rest of what the Japanese think of as "generic fantasy".
That said, it's worth remembering that while Final Fantasy might be the most iconic series of JRPGs in the West, to the Japanese that'd actually be DragonQuest. It's practically to them what D&D is to westerners.

This here is an almost ready light novel. It's scary.
Crystals are compacted magic/mana. They allow specially trained/born/mutated people to perform magic.
Some of these crystals can summon immensely powerful monsters and even gods.
Whether or not people actually worship these gods is never clear.
The BBEG has a shrewd tactician(likely an old man) who is secretly plotting against the BBEG. This guy will make extremely elaborate plans that involve betraying the BBEG to betray the protagonist, which was actually a ploy to betray the BBEG. When push comes to shove, it is later revealed that the tactician is much stronger than he originally let on.
