What, break? It's immune to breaking. I guess it might have failed in the sense of falling into an extradimensional void, because i can teleport it into my hand normally. Regardless, i teleport back a few steps and stop being a melee mage and start slinging out the support spells so my team can keep fighting without my direct damage.

Already had that character development where our party was taught a harsh lesson. Our weapons and magic weren't doing much of anything to the antagonist. He taunted us about how once our swords and spells failed us we just stood around and lost the will to fight. Our Sorc and Thief blatantly stepped aside, The Sorc willing to take the loss and survive to get stronger and eventually beat the villian, our thief not wanting to fuck with none of that shit at all. Me(2h swordsman with a "royal guard" type thing going on) and our Shinobi/Samurai Just went all out and tried to beat him down barehanded. Thief was outright killed, Sorc "permanently" had his magic taken away, the ninja and I were just beatdown but left whole. The rest of the party just mellowed in failure.
Ninja and I learned to never give up, and diversified enough so that we weren't one trick ponies, Sorc sudoku'd even though she could have eventually regained her magic, and the other three just learned to keep going no matter what.

He has something like six epic weapons at this point, so I guess it depends on which one fails.
Though if it's a 'most critical' moment, it would probably be his mace, since the other weapons don't fill niches that are as important (they're all varying degrees of 'fuck up people way over there' or 'fuck up people right next to me').
Mace property #1, can't break. It just can't. Thing's been around for millennia. You can't even scratch the patina off of it.
Mace property #2, it has significant anti-magic properties. If anything is going to fail, it's this. While you'll never be able to directly use magic on the weapon, the anti-magic field it produces isn't particularly strong, only enough to turn aside lower level spells or nullify simple ambient effects in the area around the wielder. All it takes to get around this is a powerful enough spell that the character won't be able to block with the weapon itself. Some fuck-off huge AoE spell that he can't outrun will get around it just fine.
If that does happen... character is probably dead. His one key weakness is that arcane magic really fucks him up, so chances are you either give him a debilitating injury or kill him outright. He actually used to have a shield that could protect him from attacks like this, but he gifted that to a dear friend.

Get possessed by my daemon pistol that was more suited for pistol whipping someone over the head than actually shooting at them. Proceeds to try and kill the party.

If my main weapon breaks, I guess I'm stuck with my gun. Then again, I'm a crap shot with it and the last time I used it, a case failed to eject properly and got jammed so I was stuck punching things the way I had been before anyway.

Okay assuming that my sword breaks into two pieces, then I would proceed to use it as an incredibly short sword if it is completely shattered I will use the largest piece as a shiv if the sword is ground to dust throw it at the enemy's eyes in which either two courses of action can be taken, gtfo or cast fist
If one choses to cast fist one should try and stun said enemy so that you may arm yourself with an improvised weapon of sorts then proceed to fight on until death or you win
Or one could avpid this situation entirely by maintaining your weapon or bringing a secondary weapon
Corollary:
What's your favorite sidearm to carry in addition to your main weapon? In D&D I'm partial to having a spiked gauntlet on one or both hands, and a kukri is a nice compact weapon for close-in fighting too. An archer would tend to have a longsword or battleaxe, and a melee-oriented character would pretty much always have at least a basic composite bow. And clubs - clubs are free, why not have one too?

A weapon does not fail it's user. If there is still something your hand can grip, you can use it as a weapon. If your sword snaps, grip the shattered blade in one hand and the handle in the other and continue to fight. If your gun jams or runs out of ammunition, beat the enemy with it until it cannot be called a gun anymore. Don't stop swinging until all that is left in your hands is a dull lump of metal wood or stone!

The weapon could be repaired instead of damaged irreparably. The string of your bow has snapped? Using it as a club can bend and warp the wood to the point restringing is pointless. Why cause further deformity to your weapon when simple preparation avoids such a scenario?

Inspector Brooklyn has two pistols, two nightsticks and a shotgun as part of her standard operations uniform.
Her dress uniform still has one or two pistols and a collapsible nightstick hidden on it.
If she's expecting trouble she'll even have a submachine gun and a hand cannon.
There's a lot there so she'll be somewhat set in case one fails.
