How would you stat a quasar?
How would you stat a black hole?

You don't. They're entities, not creatures. It's like trying to stat a cactus or a house or Earth; pointless.

Maybe not STAT Earth so much, but plenty of people have valid reasons for wanting to know how much HP Earth has.

Hardness infinite, total spell immunity. Everything in X radius gets crushed and dies. Everything in Y radius moves Zdistance towards it every turn.

There you go, problem solved.
>>
>>46176552
>Quasar
Anything in front of it dies.

>Black hole
Anything near it dies.

Anything else?

Why would you need to stat black holes and quasars though?
>>
>>46177253
To see whether or not you can destroy them
>>
>>46176552
GURPS Lensman needed to stat one of those things.

They also determined how many HP the Earth has.
>>
Don't have the stats for a black hole but I do have the stats for the entire earth.

HP of the earth

Each 5' square has 8 hardness and 15 HP.

So to calculate the hp of the earth, we need to have the volume. that's 2.59876×10^11 cubic miles. 1.84x10^9 miles of that are iron inner core, instead, which has hardness 10 and 30hp per inch of thickness.

That gives us 258036000000 cubic miles of rock and 1840000000 cubic miles of iron. The cubes are 6366.39 miles and 1225.385 miles on an edge. the rock has 45197490000000 squares and 403374470 inches of thickness, and thus 273,472,700,000,000,000,000,000 hp. The iron has 1674453000000 squares on a face and 77640394 inches of thickness for 3,900,155,700,000,000,000,000 hp.

Total HP of Earth: 277,372,855,700,000,000,000,000

... be sure to deal an extra 18 damage to account for the hardness per inch.

Deepnds on the game and the type of setting. Like, sure, you don't need to know how many hit dice or what AC a black hole has, but if you're playing Spelljammer (or any game that takes place in space), having some rules for the effects caused by being near a quasar or a black hole could be useful.
>>
Black Hole
Effect: When anything (spell, attack, creature, etc.) enters a 3 kilometer radius of this object, it is destroyed utterly. It can't be recovered in any way. If the subject is a player character, the character sheet must be destroyed.

And I though I was maybe going a little overboard when I made the strongets creature in my setting be effectively Tarrasque with cleric levels...
Seriously, how would you even fight that? Do you really need to give it stats when any combat would invariably end in you dying horribly because you tried punching a sapient galaxy?
Now I want to see the kidn fo character that actually could fight that and win.

It's never a good tign when the book has to dedicate an entire page in the beginning for a glossary of all the terms they've made up.

Playing a game of cosmic scale where the players ascend to godlike being and battle against transdimensional dragons, sentient black holes and other crazy bullshit could be fun, but those mechanics are just incredibly cumbersome and the stats are clearly way out of the range DnD is designed to operate in.

It goes above and beyond what D&D was ever designed to handle but I still love it as a concept
Every character I've ever made was trying to either directly or indirectly achieve immortality or godhood
So the core concept of the book appeals to me

If the proton does not decay, all matter in the unicerse will eventually turn into Iron via Quantum Tunnelling. In the even longer term everything will be turned into mini-black holes. They will cease to be too due Hawking radiation.

I mostly use the handbook for some of its lower powered stuff like Disciples and Prophets or Immortals stuff up to Greater Deity unless starting at a higher level

I also use the Virtual Size Category rules every 15 points of strength above race average counts as plus one size category essentially
>>
>>46183651
Doesn't that simply translate matter into a different form, rather than truly destroying it?
'Cease to be' sounds like complete elimination, which would defy conservation, wouldn't it?

They degenerate very slowly via Hawking radiation. A very slow process almost eternal from our perspective. At eternity's end, even them will fall to entropy.
>>
>>46183934
Yeah, but that would just leave a bunch of free-flowing energy running about, right?
I"m no astrophysicist, but the set of entropic sliding scales is
>Extreme Temperature -> Moderate Temperature
>More Solid Matter -> Less Solid Matter
>Matter -> Energy
>Higher Concentration -> Lower Concentration
>Higher Form of Energy -> Lower Form of Energy
right?
That would make the final state a whole lot of low-level energy spread across so much space it would be nearly indetectable and completely ineffectual.
Am I following you?
>>
>>46184108
>>46184108

Correct. Timescales will become unimaginable long. Lowly particles colliding against each other in the void will become massive events. Eventually, after an infinite amount of time, a new Big Bang could occur due quantum chance.
