I can't judge the dwarf player, I play wizards almost exclusively.
Once, inspired by a picture here, I played a crazy fighter that called himself the wizard, and yelled the names of spells he'd heard of at random, the first one I thought of at the time, whenever he stabs or hits someone with something. When he doesn't, it was "silent casting".
I tried to only use spells my character had actually heard in game, when he had spent enough time next to his "fellow" wizard.

I have a very open love for FATE and similar systems, but my group seems to have an instinctive hatred for it. The only non-D20 game I ever got them to play was Dark Heresy a few years back, which isn't exactly my cup of tea either but at least it's better than 3.5e.
If I really want some variety, my best option is to break out something like Star Wars D20. Which is still fucking D20, but at least it's not D&D.
I mean it's not like I don't enjoy playing with them. It's a decent group, I have fun despite the system, and it's definitely better than not having a group at all, but I just want to break away from the dungeons and fucking dragons already.

I always end up being the driving force behind the group/party leader. If I don't nothing happens, quite literally nothing. The current game I'm in I told the GM flat out I'm taking a back seat so someone else can drive.
