They reinforce each other. I have characters set up to go to a lot of cool places, but I don't have enough cool places yet. Jupiter-sized planet with Earth-normal conditions most of the place, civilizations rise and fall but nowadays usually at least get to internal combustion, if a bigger empire or a horde of tigrephants or snakeriding nomads from the vacuum volcanoes don't kill everyone first.

What happens after they get internal combustion? Why do they stop there?

Also, a rocky Jupiter-sized planet? That's kind of insane. The gravity would be massive.

Some of them get to gray goo nanotech and personality backup before dragons or whatever eat them, but by that point some idiot will listen to the ghostly radio broadcasts and build what they say to build, and then that area turns into living dark or flips upside down or turns into malevolent cyborgs and gets shut down by the gods.

The planet's hollow. The poles are both sinkholes that turn into Gabriel's Horns stretching into infinity, darker and more dangerous the deeper you go, and gravity's handled by some other method (there's a valley where a gravity dragon was slain by a solar paladin long ago, and the goddess of gravity in her grief has boycotted the place - I haven't figured out natural spin colonies yet, but I'm getting there). I'm trying to keep a generally realistic feel to it (the gods very, very rarely intervene), it's just their list of unsolved mysteries of physics, biology, and history is a million times longer than ours.

Oh, and space travel is absolutely impossible without nukes or magic. The elves launched a space fortress by Orion drive over their enemies' capital.

Wings of Honneamise. Prime Anno animating a movie about a secondary-world space program, some of the best "dieselpunk" as far as that word can be described that's out there. Everything's different but the same. It's a work of great beauty.

Last Exile and Pilot's Love Song shouldn't be the best in their subgenre. But they are. Unless Sky Crawlers is good, haven't ever managed to get into that one.

It was a ritualized engagement of honour, just like the ship battles themselves, it wasn't really supposed to be a military tactic with victory in the modern sense in mind. I mean, their engines are crewed by a foreign power and all, and they don't pick up fighter bomber tactics till near the end of the series.

Stipl, as far as depth of detail goes in an anime, it was second to none. With the bonus of no stupid lengthy exposition at every turn too.

More armor. That's what defines a tank: whether it was designed to take on other tanks head-to-head. APCs are designed to carry troops and protect them from small arms--if they run up against proper tanks, that's when their crews start yelling "Oh shit!"

Do what the military did in Afghanistan/Iraq and fill the bunker wall sections with sand/dirt. Maybe even just have the outer plates just be some sort of lightweight ceramic material or something.

The temporary wall/base thing works reasonably well enough to stop bullets and some small explosives.

All the characters on the ground know, most of the time, is that there's a lot of strange things going on, that with really precise instruments you can tell the planet curves a little (so the world probably isn't infinite), and that there are places they absolutely need to stay away from. How does "naturalistic" sound? Focus less on how the Invisible Mountains were formed and more about how it feels to be stuck inside getting baked in the sun.

Really, that shit again? If you reason that achieving orbit is only just about possible, how do you explain us sending probes to other planets? Achieving escape velocity takes half again as much delta-V as reaching low-earth-orbit.

No, actually it was the ROBOTS the humans sent to that world to try and broker peace.

Despite the fact it's cool there's a new Homeworld game, I can't help but think the developers limited themselves by picking Kharak as the setting. I mean, it's a whole planet that's a desert, and also a planet that is already predetermined to get burned to ash. So the stuff you can do with the story is limited, and the stuff you can do with the setting is limited and it's all a little disappointing to me, even the vehicles cause they just copy pasted Homeworld to a 2D framework.

I really don't get the love people have for carriers sometimes
>>
>>46151801
It's a bit more complicated than that.
It was made by ex-Relic employees that worked on Homeworld. It wasn't originally going to be a Homeworld game because they didn't own the licence, but were going to make it Homeworld-esque and on a planet. Then one day Gearbox pulled up and told them to make it a Homeworld game and then everyone cheered and rubbed one out.

>copy pasted Homeworld to a 2D framework
I liked that though. The desert environment is so vast and so hostile that each vehicle must be largely self-contained, and thus much more of a ship than a 'truck' or whatever. It follows that the military sand vessels would be divided into naval categories, etc
