Raptors use mainly ranged weapons as a reaction to the Tau and Tyranids- they frequently got shot down before they could close in melee and the Tyranids would often surround and rip apart their most stalwart warriors, again in melee.
Also, they don't generally use melee because they don't want to get the IG they work with jealous. Of their glorious, armored, forms tearing the enemy apart with chainswords and power weapons.

No longer have bone dagger things growing out of their arms. Instead, have a severely mutated Betcher's Gland which is always active; their saliva is always corrosive - by extension, their blood is highly acidic. Something in their genetics has accounted for this.
Not only is it always active, but it is hyperactive - when combined with customized helmets, it is capable of spraying similar to a breath weapon of a black dragon.
Many of their weapons make use of this hyperactive acid. Further, Tyranids find little to no biomaterial within the Black Dragons; the acid produced rapidly destroys the body upon cessation of life. However, the marines are unable to make use of the Sus-an Membrane; in the hibernation, the acidity in their bodies goes out of control, destroying their extremities first followed by a debilitating and painful death. This also causes a rejection of almost every bionic implant; the corrosive acid destroys the neural connections between the body and the implant.
Their numbers are on the decline. The gene-seed is often destroyed if the marine does not live long enough to produce more before falling in battle. The gene-seed is in the process of being condemned by the Mechanicus' magos whom inspect said gene-seed, but they are under the protection of an eccentric Ordos Xenos Inquisitor who makes judicious use of their debt to her. Said Inquisitor utilizes them in combat with Tyranids primarily; specifically genestealers - a surprising callback to the actions of the progenitor Chapter of the Black Dragons, the Salamanders.

The Sons of Orar modeled themselves after the Ultramarine radical Orar, who's tactics diverged greatly from the codex Astartes, gaining enough followers that there was a minor rift in the Ultramarine forces. This lead to the creation of the sons of Orar, who's unorthodox and rebellious ways have them ostracized by the rest of the Imperium at large, save for the Assasinorum
