Weird question.
Why is it that every time I talk my friends into playing heroes unlimited, specifically playing heroes unlimited, not rifts or ninjas and superspies, or anything like than. Heroes unlimited. They all show up with juicers and cyberknights, mind melters and glitterboys? What part of "heroes unlimited" is so fucking hard for people to grasp?
>>
>>46068923
Dunno man, my friends probably have as much fun rolling up heroes as playing. For as much shit as Palladium gets for munchkin style gaming I've never seen anybody care as little for power level and as much for characterization as people doing 100% random roll heroes.
>>
>>46068972
Fucking... I love random heroes. It gets me to play shit I would NEVER play. It's fucking amazing. But I know too many people who are just such shits about it. "I'm not attached to it because I didn't pick it" that sentence irks me because I feel like people who say it just can't into creativity.
>>
>>46069074
My favorite part about That particular Guy is that he comes in two flavors, the minmaxing cuntbag and the special snowflake. Neither of those two extremes can handle their character not being perfect in every way, it's like a mental disease.
>>
>>46069383
My problem with children with that hasn't ever gone with the special snowflake or the min-max monster. They just constantly complain that they can't be attached to any character that they didn't just make. It just feels like they lack creativity. Sadly they are my most consistent group. They are pretty good at sitting at a table on a scheduled day and playing. So I have to stick with them I guess. Too bad its so hard to assemble players at someone's house these days..m

Maybe take some time off with the current group and try recruiting for exactly what you really want to run. Never know who might bite the hook.

Also those characters would be a lot weaker than a lot of possible heores unlimited options so you could just let them run with it and get their shit pushed in.

>Coalition States utterly crush Tolkeen
>CS puts NG/Upper Peninsula on a leash
>Free Quebec tensions seemingly resolved
>No real armed forces in Lazlo
>Federation of Magic too disorganized to pose a threat
>No other major city-states in the New West or Canada

So what's next for the meta-plot in north america? There don't seem to be any surviving challengers to CS dominance left, short of the Splugorth deciding to crush them, or a sudden civil war.

There are only a few areas there don't seem fully filled in, plot-wise: the pacific northwest and far north, but introducing major new players there would be difficult this late in the game. And as much as I'd love to see the Mounties ride south to bring Peace, Order and Good Government, it doesn't seem likely.

Current campaign book in the works is Coalition: Heroes of Humanity. One of the Splugorths rivals invade earth with literally all of hell as back up and the CS leads the fight back along with all of north america including magic users.

Supposedly they are bringing back the exiled CS magic users and maybe even making them some sort of CS military specialist/scholar type OCC. Yes you heard that right, CS Wizards.
>>
>>46077103
Addendum: They actually already have an Official Magic User besides the exiles, they have a research complex run by a Techno-Wizard.

It isn't even a big stretch, magic is outlawed as a dangerous, uncontrollable and unknown energy force that created the rifts. So all they have to do is announce that they are so damn smart that they figured out how to use it safely because HFY and they are good to go.
>>

My DM checks all these boxes thankfully.
>>
>>46077533
It isn't and wasn't ever about 'reforming' the CS, they aren't uniformly evil and never were. The CS and it's people see themselves as heroes, in alot of ways they are. Given the conditions they have be fighting against being hardass Nazis is a completely logical response.

Now (prior to the new invasion anyway) that they are relatively secure they have the leisure to re examine the situation and look into the more philosophical aspects of their position.

Now that they have the stability, knowledge and experience to be secure in their position they have the leisure to say "OK that is just a wolfen, he is just a person with a canine head. He is less dangerous than a dog boy. But that dude, he's a wolf demon from the dimension of slaughtering canine demons, shoot him on sight."

Besides the suppression of literacy and 'all' research into magic they haven't done anything wrong in the grand scheme of things, it is after all their planet that is under attack. Their only real mistake so far has been being douchbags about it, their overall goals are completely logical and noble
>>
>>46078223

The people of the CS were never uniformly evil, but the CS definitely always was. You can't intentionally imitate the Nazis and be the good guys, whether it's in reality of fiction.

There are plenty of examples of groups that dealt with the same threats without resorting to the same level of xenophobia and violently enforced ignorance as them. Pretending they're taking the only available solution is ignoring all the groups who found better solutions.
>>
>>46078344
>>46078344
>There are plenty of examples of groups that dealt with the same threats without resorting to the same level of xenophobia and violently enforced ignorance as them. Pretending they're taking the only available solution is ignoring all the groups who found better solutions.

But on Rifts Earth that is objectively wrong. The only group that has as much success as the CS is the NGR. While the NGR is slightly more tolerant of DBs and Magic how did they achieve that success?

Oh right, by allying with the CS and using CS troops to pull a D Day on the Gargoyles so they could genocide their entire race. If the CS becomes slightly more tolerant of DBs and allows modest research into Magic then they will be more or less identical to the NGR, which is a huge plot point as it is their only point of real difference. It is also the only thing keeping the New Navy from formally joining the CS. If that can be accomplished and A.R.C.H.I.E can convince the CS that he really is their ally then they will have enough unity to seriously consider launching an assault on Atlantis.

If the current invasion is dealt with then there is nothing left in North America to prevent total human dominance, the bugs in Canada already got genocided by a CS lead alliance.
>>
>>46078798
>But on Rifts Earth that is objectively wrong

Totally wrong. The CS is strong in spite of their attitude to magic and aliens, not because of it.

Fairly minor kingdoms rapidly gain power simply by being less xenophobic and terrible to everyone compared to them. That won't change just because they keep trying to kill off every state that inevitably arises where aliens and magic are welcome.
>>
>>46079107
Please list those kingdoms, i am reasonably sure more half have been destroyed, absorbed or allied themselves with the CS and/or NGR. The only reasonably advanced human civilizations not allied or subordinated with the CS/NGR are the new USSR and Japan, the former being a mess and the latter being more or less the same as the NGR with additional rift shenanigans giving them an entire intact pre rifts city.

There is no human civilization that could have wiped out the bugs or saved Europe from the Gargoyles besides the CS/NGR, the Gargoyles took the CS, NGR combined to wipe out, they even had ARCHIE and the New Navy helping out a little. Without the CS North America would be a demon occupied hellhole run by the Federation of Magic, the Splugorth and half a dozen other demon factions.

>Please list those kingdoms, i am reasonably sure more half have been destroyed, absorbed or allied themselves with the CS and/or NGR.

Again, you're misunderstanding the point. It's irrelevant whether the CS has a larger armed forces than any other empire, they are still undermining themselves with their fascist nonsense.

Lazlo, Tolkeen, even the Pecos empire and Colorado baronies can survive with a tiny fraction of the CS's power simply by being the slightest bit tolerant. Meanwhile the CS is fighting an eternal and pointless battle to eradicate everyone else, which will only continue until they give up on that ideology.
>>
>>46079994
Every transdimensional conflict involves the splugorth someway, however they are not directly involved from what i have seen so far. The invaders are actual demons, like pit fiends, dybuk and their ilk. The implication being thrown around is that Splyn was concerned at first, was considering actually helping North America/The CS but decided not to as they are holding their own. Apparently splyncryth is momentarily paralyzed with indecision because while he doesn't want Earth getting invaded if the CS wins decisively he is the only remaining major target.

Since the CS will no doubt prevail the next event is probably going to be Coalition War Campaign: D-Day Atlantis
>>
>>46080943
Yeah, all of the various power factions get addressed regarding how they feel about the Minion War spilling onto Earth in Megaverse in Flames. Pretty similarly to the rest of the big emergency books like Mechanioids, Xiticix, Vampires, etc. I thought you were trying to say that in Heroes of Humanity the Splugorth actually play a role greater than "this is how we respond".

Well seeing as they keep winning they don't seem very undermined. And it has bewen made clear that in the next even they are loosening up on the Fascist component by a significant margin.

>>46080993
Oh no, they don't do anything beyond respond from what i know. Apparently he is getting a bit worried, his failure to stop the Coalition from linking up with the NGR freaked him out especially as they wiped the gargoyles out with zero magical assistance. He also thinks ARCHIE is an alien intelligence helping the CS which isn't entirely wrong.

They were ruled almost exclusively by dbs and magic users, regularly helped bring in more dbs, opened rifts and generally were doing jack and shit to help take back and secure earth. Get it through your head, they were helping invade the planet and were actively assisting the invaders solidify a hold here. Not only that they were actively standing in the way of the only force on the continent that was actually trying to save earth and humanity. Beyond that we know exactly where they stand, their first act of 'defense' was to summon as inter dimensional invaders as possible. The instant they did that they proved that the CS was right and they were an intolerable threat to earth and humanity.

Woulda thought the Xiticix would be a more obvious choice for a threat that suddenly boils up.

I wonder if we'll see if the Republicans succeed in their aim of making the CS more benevolent - if they want to push the CS as heroes, having a couple of key assassinations and new policies would be rather important to making it plausible.

Plus, they have a giant army of war machines and control most of the non-government Glitter Boy pilots - pretty useful assets.

>New Quebec are hardliners IIRC?

Free Quebec is hardline on issues like Dog Boys and D-Bees, but they're more flexible on things like enforcing illiteracy, juicer technology, and general civil liberties. If the CS is Stalinist Russia or Nazi germany, Quebec is more like Putinist Russia or Francoist Spain. Similar policies, but milder on a number of fronts.

>Though open war with Splynncryth would result in the CS getting their teeth pushed in.

Yeah, the Splugorth being involved in earth are like the USA getting involved in a bush war in africa. If they bothered to care about what's going on at all with the bickering locals, they're wreck everyone.

Are these all being saved anywhere?

Probably never. PB has been burned hard by the Robotech minis game.

When joining a Palladium games group, which is better: pitching a setting-appropriate concept to the Referee and building the character from there, or randomly rolling a character with oversight from the Referee?

it depends on the group, you should ask your GM

Yeah I've got them archived in the trashcan where they belong

Oh. That makes sense.

Why the spoilers, though?
