In real life there are (legally questionable) agencies that will stage a kidnapping for the right price. Historically nobles (ESPECIALLY those of genuine royal status) would marry one person for political benefit and then both sides of the marriage would have one or more people they genuinely loved and banged on the side.

I don't think the association of BDSM with demons originates in heavy metal. It has roots in religious iconography. Saints confronted with temptation are often represented being held down, restricted by demons. The shackles are for the sinner. Evil has chains to represent the evildoer bound to his physical body, shackled by his addictions, driven by his primal desires, while Good is the angel with the wings of a bird, universal symbol of freedom, delivered from earthly pursuits, the soul soaring through the heavens.

Hmm. Seems appropriate to the post-antiquity western European interpretation of Christianity, with emphasis on the "freedom from sin" metaphor. It's kind of funny how the New Testament has some parts that use the exact opposite imagery to say the almost the exact same thing, by saying things like "Live as God's slaves."

The idea of servitude to god in the new testament could be interpreted as echoing christianity's roots in platonism and gnosticism as well, where god, representing wisdom and the supreme good, is the only thing worthy of the servitude of man. It's possible that in the intensely hierarchical structure of ancient culture, servitude to only the highest principle conceivable might have been the most powerful symbol of freedom possible for a mind so steeped in a top dog/bottom dog worldview.

Not quite too sure about that. Jesus is depicted as pretty radical in the way he acts precisely because of the fact that he is constantly degrading himself with servitude. Jesus spoke with authority, but was also very submissive to authority. That seems contradictory and strange to our modern worldview, but given the way people react to him in the Bible it seems like that sort of things was just as strange in that cultural context as it is in this one.
He got down on his knees and washed the smelly feet of people who had been on the dusty road all day. A host was supposed to provide basins of water for people to wash their own feet in, or, if he was rich enough, get a servant or slave to do it. Jesus washed the feet of his students and instructed them to do the same to other people. Submission, not just to God but to literally everyone, is a really prominent theme throughout the whole New Testament.

A SM paladin could be really interesting, if you found a way to resolve the tension between the themes of chastity and fetishism. There's the obvious link to draw with flagellants and martyrdom. Mechanically, I'd like to see an alternation between two roles. Maybe they need to absorb energy in a submissive mode where they take in blows and act as the archetypal martyr saint, and then suddenly changing to a dominating mode where they can channel that accumulated pain and injustice into righteous fury. There'd be a balancing act of going as low as you can to then soar the highest up, so getting the nearest possible to death would make them the most powerful when they go into punishment mode.

It's not Jesus's submissiveness that's key here, it's the other people's bewildered and somewhat repulsed reaction to his submissiveness. A lot of people don't realize just how eccentric Jesus was. From the perspective of the local Jewish theocrats, it's perfectly understandably why they wanted him dead -- he looked like (and technically was) the beginnings of a cult, and the fact that he constantly broke cultural taboos did not help his case, even though nobody could really deny that what he did was beneficial to individuals and to the society.
Biblically speaking, Christianity is a cult of servitude.
