Always remember wizards to carry one of these in case you've run out of magics to throw at the enemy.
>>46058569
Fair enough.
>>46058569
Am I supposed to throw the sword at them?
That seems like it wouldn't be very useful.
>>46058569
No need.
As a wizard, I have an at-will spell like ability to regain health and spells, which I can use whenever I am not in combat.
Its called resting, and it costs me nothing to use and never has downsides. I use it after almost every fight
>>46059074
While your resting Snorc the Orc are your legs.
And probably cut my legs off while trying to use it? No thanks.
>>46059074
>Be DM
>Don't give my players a short rest between two combat encounters
You're in a dungeon. The rest of the drow/gnolls/hobgoblins are literally on the other side of the door. Do you really think I'm gonna let you prepare more spells?
>>46058569
>needing swords
If you ran out of magic, you fucked up.
If you fucked up, you've got your fists.
What are you? A martial?
>>46059074
>8 hours of rest for every time you spend a minute in combat after you kick the door
>five in-game weeks to clear the first dungeon in the adventure
>two years of sessions
>in the end you all get 125 xp and 20 gold pieces
>>46058996
>throwing a big, sharp pointy metal thing as someone isn't effective
>>46059685
But anon that's wrong. The other anon is leaving spell slots upen to be filled during the day.
>>46059695
If the big sharp pointy metal thing isn't meant to be thrown, then no, it's not very effective when thrown at someone.
>>46059695
Compared to throwing balls of fire at them?
>>46058569
I rather use my wizard staff
>>46059993
No, compared to flailing your skinny wizard arms at them.
>>46060122
Somatics are part of an every day workout.
>>46060122
But my skinny wizard arms have really been trying hard lately. I think if I hit them with my book...
Huh, new idea. Make some kind of weapon-enchant specialist. Take feat to fight with mundane object.
Make a wizard that uses his spellbook, which he buffs with powerful temporary combat boost/weapon enchants, to bludgeon people to death. That is his entire kit.
Yeah, this has potential.
>>46059641
The wizard has a sword right there.
Given the real life influences of the academic wizard type they should be competent at using swords or at least brawling from their student days.
>>46060422
It's the previous knight's.
>>46058569
Honestly, I give wizards a weapon any idiot with training could use. A dagger, a club, shortsword, or just bludgeon with their staff.
No wizard or average Joe is going to be able to effectively throw a knife in combat.
Way I see it, in a typical sort of medieval setting you can guess what combat skills a wizard will know based on background assuming they were not taken by wizards as young children.
A peasant raised as a hedge wizard will know quarterstaff and wrestling. A townsman who was a student will know sword and buckler and wrestling. The second or third son of a noble given training to give his older brother a trusted spellcaster will probably know knightly weaponry at least a little and be just as good with hunting weapons as many real life noble priests were.
>>46060422
You think the wizard actually uses that sword? That's the sword of the nobleman he sent into the astral plane to get this castle tower. That's the lord's daughter. That's the knight who was betrothed to the daughter in the background. And the wizard stands there topless in his trasure room summoning giraffe demons from his magic book because he knows he better than the rest of them.
>>46059641
MAGIC'D
>>46060070
>being a wizard and using a lucerne hammer
patrician taste
Or just bash fools with your spell book, which ought to be reinforced with iron bindings and clasps, and pretty damn hefty by itself.
>not playing magic/melee hybrid classes of whatever the fuck name you want to use
Hitting things good and magicing things good all at once is what gets me off at night.
>>46060422
>implying I don't always save my last spell to polymorph into a buff as fuck ogrekin in case shit happens
what are they teaching at the academy these days, jesus christ
>>46062668
The vidya Ragnarok Online has a "Professor/Sage" class that gets bonuses to attack and damage for doing this, as well as a chance at casting a random "basic" spell.
You can make a high attack speed build where you rapidly bash the shit out of enemies with your book and cause fire, and lightning and shit to rain down on them from above.
I just felt like mentioning it.
Game is kinda shit except for neat stuff like that though.
>>46059074
Assuming you've got 8 hours to sit around.
Man, you must have the most boring GM.
>>46059641
go ahead, make my day
>>46058569
Sure, Gandalf had a sword. Gandalf was damn good with a sword.
>>46064851
Gandalf was a fucking fighter and you know it.
>>46064422
>talking shit about Ragnarok
>not about the actual shit parts, the pre-3rd classes
>acting as if it's some kind of obscure game
How young are you?
>>46064851
>gandalf
>wizard
pick one
>>46066315
>it's all your fault, says experts
Never hurts to put a few levels into monk so your wizard staff doubles as a bowstaff
>>46059074
>at-will spell like ability
So you can't rest while in an Antimagic Field. Cool.
>>46066315
imo gandalf is an engineer with a walking stick and a sword.
>blind nazgul pilot/mount with laser-pointer built into staff outside of gondor
>strobe mode of laser used to hypnotise rohan's ruler and tell him he's been exercised from saruman
>didn't actually talk to bugs, just shined laser pointer while on top of tower, eagles see blinking light and come to see what's up
>fire grenade pinecones against wolves in hobbit
>flashband grenade on goblins then walk away in hobbit cave scene
>left some barely visible charge on bridge, walk to safety then slam down staff on some detonator hidden behind his robe on bridge of moria to take it out when Balrog is walking over
Gandalf was a smart enough time-traveller/engineer to keep his technology secrets to himself by pretending they're magic.
His other 'wizards' are all just scientists as well.
>rhadagast's only magic is Zoology and animal behavior
>saruman's magic is just Biology, cloning and genetic-manipulation
Other so-called "wizards" only just rumors.

Hundt would disagree...
>>46070133
... and another one when facing a angry mob.
While my wizard's will more likely beat someone with a club or staff in a pinch, every character I have ever rolled up in any fantasy game has always carried a silver dagger with them.
>>46059906
That's not regaining spell slots anon, which is what the first guy said.
>>46070133
That guy looks more mildly annoyed than anything
>>46070142
Same for that really
>>46060318
So a monk? (they are based on xuizen which are the wizards of the far east, why game companies didn't make them a wizard path for muscle wizards is beyond me)
>>46070142
>>46070133
Isn't this the guy who suggested throwing your pomnel?
>>46070343
In some treatises, people are "midly annoyed" by having their hand cut or their face skewered, it's not like it's an accurate facial expression picture.
>>46070545
Not at all, this is from Michael Hundt's treatise (1611), the crazy pommel throwers are in the Gladiatoria fechtbuch (early to middle 15th century).
>>46067959
Gandalf was a Solar/Planetar using change shape and keeping his abilities quiet.
>>46070168
>Using an Atheme for violence.
REEEEEEEEEEE
wizards arent weak.
Plato was ripped, and all my wizards are true to socrates meaning they are all so ripped and since I have magic they are all natty too.
no body on this earth could compare to the otherwordly bodies my wizards have.
so divine,
so lusting.
>running out of magic
>as a blood mage

Never gonna happen, mate.

philistine...

Kick people a lot, I would imagine.
>>46059610
Do you also not let them go back to the surface or at least a couple room back, barricade the door and rest? Because if yes, I will find you and turn your face into a reddish-purple paste.
