What do giants call themselves?
>>
Probably not "giant", obviously.
>>
>>46042639

It depends on the setting you daft cunt.

In some it might be Ou'agunguns. In others it might be The Stone Folk. In another it might be the Titans. Or whatever. It could be any old shit. They might even call themselves the Tiny Ones, because in the distant past there was an even larger race of huge people.

Normies
>>
Their nationality.
Or giants because they think it makes them tough.

Why don't halflings call humans 'giants'?
>>
>>46042639
Gi'ants. It means "large ones".
>>
Do they even have a name for their own people?
>>
>>46042639
Giants, cuz they're gianter than everything else
>>
>>46042639
The ones I met called themselves Bunscotto and Warren's Favourite Giant.

Warren's Favourite Giant had no idea who Warren is, but that's the only name he had, so that's what he called himself.
>>
Jotunn
>>
>>46042844
Does that mean giants call us manlets?
>>
>>46042639
Either 'people' or>>46043497.
>>
>>46043585
They'd probably call us halflings.

And halflings quarterlings.
And quarterlings eighthlings.
And they can't really see the eighthlings to call them anything.
>>
>>46042639
Giant.

You're viewing it the wrong way around. We don't call them giants because they're big. We call big things giant because they're like giants.
>>
>>46042639
"We who punch out dragons"?
>>
>>46042732
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>46043794
This. Humans started describing other things as giant as a reference to the race's size.
>>
>>46045535
That really doesn't make a dragon amount of sense. There's a pixie chance that might be the case with some obscure aboleth words, but it's certainly not the case with goblin ones.
>>
Would merfolk call themselves merfolk?
>>
>>46042639
Probably "people" in their own language.

>>46045732
Had myself a good laugh. Thanks m8.
>>
>>46043794
I looked that up, and wouldn't you know it, that's actually true.
>>
>>46042639
Giants. It's the word that's been ascribed to their race, so it doesn't matter if they are not gigantic relative to their own size. It's a name more than it is a descriptor.
>>
>>46042639
Huge-mans.
>>
What do wizards and other spellcasters call non-magical folk?

Muggles? Ungifted? Plebs?
>>
>>46051544
I love the idea of a secret society of wizards have come to call other people muggles purely because of the HP books.
>>
Big guys
>>
>>46047039
They might call humans landfolk instead.
>>
>>46051680
I prefer dirtfolk.
>>
>>46045732
Kek
>>
>>46051745
But it's not like we call them sludgefolk or puddlefolk or anything.
>>
>>46042639

They call themselves "mediums" because they see themselves as channelling the power of the mountains and glaciers
>>
>>46052200
they're all shaman that talk to the Elder Giants
>>
>>46042844
They do.
>>
>>46051680
I've heard dryfolk before

Goblin can be used as an adjective, not just a noun.

I'm fairly certain you could use it to describe your wife as I was with her last night.

What do you think "mer" means, senpai?
>>
They call themselves giants as they always have. They will not change it because humans bastardized thier name to refer to anything large.
>>
>>46051968
there is always racists who enjoy this childish names-calling
>>
>>46047339
Yeah, of course the actual origin of their name, "Earthborn" would probably be pretty damn good as well.
>>
>>46054764
You're the worst kind of person.
>>
>>46053129
You sneaky git
>>
>>46042639
Generally speaking, whatever word translates as 'people' in the language of their ancestors. Possibly in their current language, but less likely.
>>
>>46055635
Where's the lie though

What? Are you on drugs, anon? Drugs aren't good for you.
>>
>>46042639

The Unhomed.
>>
>>46056589
Except the word "giant" really was originally a reference to the creatures of myth, not just their size, you baka. If there really were giants they wouldn't stop calling themselves "giants" because the word took on a different connotation. People from Siam still call themselves Siamese even if it might make people think of cats, for example
>>
>>46056645
I heard that they're Siamese if you please.
They're also Siamese if you don't please.
>>
>>46053764
Fuck all. "Mere" (which is where "Mermaid" comes from) refers to any body of water.
